Depends on filesize, mostly i will use image quality 60-70 (good quality and reduces file size a lot). Sound quality of 5 or 6 (if you use a headphone you probably want 7 or 8 ). And of course a resolution of 640x480.
Any tips on using ffmpeg/transode? (Linux user here).
Also, what codecs does the standard video player support?
The same guy who made the pocket divx encoder (free), made another program that he reputes to be "better", it's known as Lathe.
Personally I think that the lathe interface is probably more user friendly, but lathe is not free (unless...), anyway I think it is very very cheap.
true
If i start my dixvencoder I get a option to buy lathe bottom right
What are the best steps to take to get vids on to your pda?

Hey people!
I use Windows Media Encoder 9 to encode my movies and the result is amazing. Crystal clear picture and great sound. Right now I am watching The Forgotten with Julianne Moore. Great movie!
What do you use?
Take Care
Björn
u have any small samples?
i use pocketdvix encoder
I also discovered that Windows Media movies are a lot better than the Divx ones I made with PocketDivxEncoder. Also it's a lot faster and you don't need any crop and whatever actions. The picture quality is a lot better than with Divx in my opinion. Also, when using XP, you don't need any extra software, only the free Microsoft Movie Maker. Just import the movie file, drag all parts down and save the movie as Pocket PC Fullscreen. This is a lot faster than PocketDivxEncoder.
For DVDs i think you'd need something like DVDecrypter and DVD2AVI to be able to import the movie into the Movie Maker.
doesnt do .mov files, i normally do trailers
use smartmovie 2.72
hi guys...
I am using fully cracked smartmovie 2.72 player & its rocking... the audio & video clarity is too good. The conversion is very quick -- matter of 1 to 2 mins.
if anyone needs mail me at [email protected]
Bye
Iffu
This is not the right place for pirated software!

Hey, izzit really 1.11.160 WWE ExtROM ? Any source to download :?:
@Ill tempered
I didn't test that. I only know that the Movie Maker only accepts files like avi and so forth. I'm not sure about the Digital Rights management - this could cause trouble with some or even all DVDs. Just try.
Anyway, there will definately be a way to encode DVDs with Windows Movie Maker and the quality is really, really good. I think that DivX Codecs are just not optimized for the PPCs format.

Just found this last night and don't know if anyone posted about this before, but it works flawlessly with my X1
Program: Format Factory
Link: http://www.formatoz.com/download.html
Just set it for Sony Ericsson X1 as your default if you want, then select any file(s) you wanna convert, and BAM!!!! 1G of video converted in 5mins and reduced to about 150mb...Hope that this helps anybody else here like it helped me...Alohas for now.
P.S. Forgot to mention that this program only converts video files, but pictures as well as music files...just about anything...
Thanks. Am downloading it and will give it a go shortly.
What do you use to play the files on the X1
It appears that the program sets the X1's res at 320 x 240, I find that an unnaceptable quality for encoding to the X1.
It's a nice program though. I 'll work on custome settings . .
I use it to convert a video in 480*272 (I don't want 320*240!!!) and the audio is not synchronised with the video...
I use "HD Encoder.exe" found some where around here. it works fricking great for high def video like movies, divx, etc...
google it up!
You think you'd encode a video from 1, 2, 4G fo a bout an hours or so and then outputs to a file about 650MB for an X1? isn't it a little too big? I mean to phone came out with just 4G you'd only have enough for 3 movies. is there another lower file size converter?
Thanks for information

Sorry, but I believe that the biggest they have for the X1 is 16GB...as for me, I'm using an 8GB microSDHD card and it's way more than enough because I only watch movies on my phone only during my class breaks which are about 15-30mins. What's so hard in transferring the files to/from your memory card anyways Transferring 4GB of files onto my card only takes me 2-3mins.

I tried many versions of that program and all of them didn't work with me...I always get errors with that program.

My recommendation? Stick to Projection's HD video converter. See sticky for more info.

Yep....does the job.
Or if you can find the download link on their site and like to tweak your videos to the 9th degree you can use super
Super and Xillsoft are the two i used before i found the projection one. Projection thank you so much you are ftw!
Why take the trouble and convert anything at all?
Just use the coreplayer! it will play your basic xvid etc video's perfectly.
Yeah.. it's 700mb for a movie.. but it's not that you need to stack 20 movies on your phone
Which program do i need to convert soundfiles on my computer to my tytn2 and also videos???!
it plays most the formats the pc does
no need to convert unless you have storage formats on your
pc and can't find a player for your pda which play them
What type of files are you trying to play? Like rudegar said it should play pretty much anything. You may also be interested in a music/video player program called CorePlayer.
i got
latest harry potter, transformer.
Thats in *.avi, in my laptop i use vlcplayer to se it but when i copy those files to my kaiser i want to convert and it always taking more than 8hours before it's finished.

Coreplayer shoul play most of the video files, link below :

"when i copy those files to my kaiser i want to convert and it always taking more than 8hours before it's finished."
is that using the SD mode connection or just activesync file sync?
because the later is not a good way to do that
also if the movies is in a high res they may not play too well so
reencoding them in the res of the kaisers screen would be a good idea
okey
but my sd adapter dont work...
both films are in good quality but what size shall i choose??? so it fits my kaiser screen?

Pocketdivxencoder works best for pocket pc n choose pda when it opens up (320x240 resolution)
Link : http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm
Try
erightsoft - Super
search google or in this forums for best settings pending on your prefences for audio/video you can probably get a 700mb file down to about 150mb with decent quality. This has been discussed a couple times already in these forums, use the search I think I posted my settings once.
super is free but latest builds have been buggy see if you can find an earlier version, right now i personally use "Any video converter pro" compressed a 2gb divx file to a 565mb mp4 file(just so i can use on Ipod or other phones)
settings for that was
codec Mpeg4
size 320x240
vbitrate 512
vframerate 15
audio codec aac
abitrate 32
sample rate 11025
they have about 30 settings built in, but I like these settings, the videos have played on a behold, instinct, my tilt and wing, nokia 5300, and my ipod so pretty good compatibility. hope this helps. Aloha
So I'm looking for a good program to convert mpeg's to .mp4's to view on my TP2. I have googled and found ALOT of different ones, but I just wanted to see what others were using or could recommend. Something that can convert dvd's to a viewable file type for my TP2 as well is desired.
pretty damn good one and free to is. DVDVIDEOSOFT
Download Free Studio entirely
comes with a whole set of real nice apps for audio and video plus a manager that can open and control or open all or any of them.
or can just get one at a time and download but i advice to get the studio
also there is AVS4YOU http://www.avs4you.com/ which cost 59 but its for every thing and ALL there software for life.
They both come with converters that create or convert into cell formats. Including youtube.
this app is the best http://handbrake.fr/
i have tried many of the apps listed as well as others but i use this one all the time for dvd rip and convert to mp4 it has a default setting for mp4 mobile phones so it is very easy to use also has mkv format and its free

This is the one I use, I find it smallest and easiest to use, I can queue up files and go to work, it never crashed so far.
I use Custom option and ensode with 900kbit to get very good quality
Highly recommended!
The only other applcation I use sometimes is TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress becuase it is using the power of my nvidia card when encoding.
Guys,
How do I rip my existing DVD's to playback on my HD2? I would like to have good quality but a small file size Any programs that do it straight away without lots of separate processes like demuxing etc?

dvdshrink maybe?
IIRC that just shrinks DVD-9 so it can be copied to DVD-5
I think FormatFactory can do that for free. I cant confirm right now, sorry.
just use one of the many programs that does the same for Sony PSP. it works like a charm!
The best is Xilisoft DVD Ripper Ultimate
Best quailty, and easy to use.
Awesome....
What res works best on the HD2 screen (800x480) isn't it?
Bearing in mind DVD's are 720x576?
640x480 or what else??
For dvds it would be best to rip it to it's native resolution, since they won't match HD2's res.
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478050
I used it on my HD, and am using it on my HD2. It makes a DVD into the perfect resolution for the HD2 screen - and a 2 hour film will turn into about 700mb.
The ripping / encoding process takes about 20 mins.
Highly recommended - and its free
I have had good results with Handbrake on my tytn (4 days to go till my hd2 arrives )
I have also used MediaCoder.
Both are free.
SPB Mobile DVD. Simple and very effective (and quick).
Thanks, I think I'll try this Mp4forHD in it's native res.
Now where are these 32gb MicroSD cards?
I'm a beginner when it comes to all the dvd to mobile software. I have downloaded Handbrake so can someone run through the instructions of how to get the dvd into a file that the HD2 recognises as a step by step guide. MAny thanks
