Cant surf web with Wi-Fi on a 8125 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey i just recently got an 8125 and when i enable wi-fi, no matter what it defaults over to the GPRS/EDGE connection. I even tried going into connection manager and disabling data transfer, but it still will not surf.
Wi-Fi IS getting an ip, and does have great signal. Can someone tell me what stupid little thing im missing is?

Try.. changing your advanced network settings .. settings\connections\advanced\select networks
gprs connection (as conectiong to a private network and internet .. set to my ISP... it worked for me ..

Cant connect to internet via wifi

Finally today I was able to connect to my wifi network but I cant get my MDA on the internet. Every connection I try fails. I am on tmobile USA and I have to use a proxy server for my gprs but not for WIFI. Am I missing something?
Try setting wifi to max performance under wifi settings - some find that does the trick
make sure ur wireless network is set to connect to the internet directly and not thro a proxy. that caused me some probs a while back.
^^^How do I go about checking the proxy?

Using only Wifi

How do you select what network connection to use? 99% of the time I only ever want the phone to connect to the internet over Wifi (or bluetooth/cable connection to the computer) and not using Cingular's network. There is the occasional time that I would like to enable that but most of the time I want to only use the Wifi. Where can I set so it doesn't connect to Cingular accidentally (say if I'm out of Wifi range or hit the wrong button) so i don't get large data charges?
Thanks
In connexion option set default internet connexion as "my work network" and privat network default as "my work network" as well.
So lemme just confirm something - unless I configure server settings on the a HTC TyTN (using stock rom) on the Cingular network - it will not be able to use Cingulars network right? The only time I will be able to access the internet with the phone is over wifi, bluetooth connection (or USB) with an internet enabled computer. Otherwise the internet will not function and I will not be charged data charges correct?
I don't really ever find myself using the internet on a phone when I'm away from home so I can't justify the expense of the data service but I work on a few websites that I'd like to look good on a cellphone so that's my main reason for wanting internet access on it - so while I'm at work I can log into the wifi system and test the site while I'm tweaking the code.
Am I correct in assuming that I shouldn't be charged under this situation?
Hi, I'm on Vodafone and I made the changes fun_key posted without noting down the original settings. Please can someone tell me what the default settings are for internet connection and private network connection. Thanks

Internet options?

i saw it some where ... , you can change from 80kb gprs internet to 1mb wifi internet ...
but i forgot where i saw it , i researched it without success , where i can to find this option?
GPRS is CELLPHONE internet. It uses the cellphone service from your carrier to gain internet access (your cellphone service company will charge you for that. Dont ask me how much)
WiFi is wireless LAN. You know how laptops can connect to the internet wirelessly? That's using WiFi, which comes from a nearby wireless router (usually no further than 100 meters awy)
You need to have a wireless router at home, such as Linksys WRT54G or D-Link DI-524 or whatever else. Those things connect to a wired internet connection like a Cable Modem or a DSL modem. You cant just access WiFi from your cellphone anywhere. You need to be close to a wireless router, and be ALLOWED access to it (because they are very often password protected).
Only the GPRS is accessible from anywhere with cellphone signal.
Note : You probably will be able to get EDGE, which is the same as GPRS, but faster (in between 150-220kbps)
no bro ... , its not gprs options ... ,
I did changed it one time ago ... , now i forgot where it is.
Change from 80kb to wifi\lan ... , there some option like that ...
Its just give you surf faster in wifi mode.
no "bro"
you cant magically switch from GPRS to WiFi unless you got a WiFi network near you.
On the Comm Manager, you can turn gprs off and turn wifi on...not sure if that's what your asking.
You didn't got me ,
I can to surf on wifi networks , but by default just on 80kb , so i saw some option you can change it to 1mb from 80kb surfing .
so you can surf the internet on pocket very very more faster then its on 80kb,now i did hard reset and this setting gone away...
I need to find him again...

WM6.1 Networking very confusing, can anyone demistify it?

Hi folks
Since day 1, I have always found the Networking (WiFi, 3G) system on WM61 very confusing.
If I go to connections, I have "My work network", Under there I have my Vodafone live profile. I have no idea why. Why cant I see WiFi settings here, and adapters etc
Under advanced, I can choose programs that auto connect to the net and auto connect to a private network. I have to set both of these to "My work network" otherwise my Vodafone Live 3G connection will not work. Surely connecting to a private network and connecting to the internet could be one and the same (in the case of using a router via a lan) ? Also this Network Management dialog does not seem to have anything to do with the Wi Fi network. I mean I cannot get at my WiFi adapters here etc.
The whole thing is a mess, If I want to see WiFi settings I have to use the WiFo icon in settings.
Can anyone make sense of this for me (and I'm sure many others). I'd love to see a definitive guide as to whats what, an explanation of each function/icon/tab/dialog
and finally a recommended setup for using WiFi, 3G etc
im kinda confused by WM6.1 network management too!
Currently i have my top setting set to 'Work Network' so that it accesses my wifi at home,
And the 'private network' is set to my 3G data provider, however it seems very clunky and if it was the other way around, i risk using my 3G data allowance even if Wifi was connected.
Im keen to also get some clarity here.

The WIFI without the GPRS (3g)

Hello,
I need some help about my htc hd.
I want to ensure that, then i connected to internet via WIFI, my GPRS (3g) is not connected.
How can i disable the 3g GPRS connection, and enable WIFI only
Thanks a lot!!!
No Data will allow you to stop data connection.
so now if i closed my Orange network, the WIFI should work?
It is still doesnt work, do you have any idea how to configure it?

Click to collapse
Course it will there seperate
All you do is block Orange connection when you want and unblock when needed
This program doesn't help me , because even i close it the GPRS still work.
But than i take the SIM from the phone, or turn off the phone feature, the internet connection is unavailable.
I think that all problem that was in some topics about the WIFI speed , is because of they used the GPRS internet and not the WIFI.
So , there some more complexive problem with internet WIFI in HTC HD.
Just try to take out the SIM and than surf in internet with WIFI? There is no way!!!!!
the connection icons on the top of the screen clearly show which data connection is active
the manual describe the meaning of all the top screen icons
settings->connections->connections->advanced-select network
pick my home network or whatever the non isp connection is named on your phone
and all data connections when there is no wifi or activesync connections to get free network from will fail with an error == you will never get a grps connection again
before you turn it back to my isp or what it's named on your device
