I disabled GPRS completely via RegistryWizard, and then I turn it back on when I need it.
if you have the communication manager program, use it to turn off the phone but leave the wi-fi on. That should do it, the downside is that you can't receive calls that way...
Is VLC for Pocket PC any good?
How does it compare to TCPMP?
As for GPRS, if you don't use it at all, you can always remove it from yoru Connection Settings.

It's buggy as poo on my Wizard and it hasn't been updated since February. I dumped it and switched to TCPMP (also not perfect). Right now I'm test driving SmartMovie from lonelycatgames. It takes my BBC videos and converts them from just about any format (with ffdshow) and the bundled player is nice. A bit more of a comprehensive package than you're looking for but not a bad deal for 19$ (havent found a freeware tool that can do this yet.)
Their website is horribly slow right now so this screenshot might not show up. It's a pretty sexy application though.

Like I said, it's a bit more comprehensive than most people need. I haven't bought it yet, and I still use TCPMP.
It's 19$ for the package, per my post the player is just bundled. SmartPlayer is a full video conversion application from dvd or downloaded xvid/divx.
It's taken 5-6 xvid/divx/3vix I've downloaded and quickly converted them from various different formats and sizes to a fully compatible 320x240 video (at about 200mb for 1.5 hours) and handled both major types of subtitles.
The attractive GUI is just a plus.

Hi everyone,
Has anyone tried to play heavy mkv files?
The Intel A110/GMA950 handles it well?
Not that I will watch on the shift but would be nice to out it to tv monitor..
If not has anyone tested it with less heavier but still high quality videos?
Mine is arriving in 5 days so I am not able to test yet..
Thanks!
Countdown!
365 days...(first time I read about it...)
10...(purchase)
5... (today)...
Did you get the video to work... looking at getting one but am worried about the speed of the machine... I know it's not a racecar, but I would like to be able to play a movie, do general Office 2007 work etc... what's your impression?
thanks!

Office 2007 is working perfect. I installed the Enterprise version with full installation
Movies did not play well, but I must confess my energy state was "power saver".
I don't know how it is with "performance"
Will try that later.
I paly movies on mine and have no problems after installing the correct codecs.
this is the typical specs for the movies i watch, either in DivX or mp4

Me too.
Divx movies run smoothly. (first installed K-lite mega codec pack.)
grtz,
Pfeffa-rah
could someone try to run mkv videos on the shift and post some results?
I'm in a bit of doubt regarding shift playing them smoothly. The intel gma950 should be able to handle them without much problems, also the RAM memory should be enought but however I'm concerned about the processor. Try to run the videos by allocating higher priority from vista's task manager to the video player and it's process.
HI everybody here,
That must sound unbelievable, you know, I am not an expert, and I even do not have the Flash program, but I successfully convert thousands of videos to flash videos, and then I upload them to my personal website. ? That’s amazing! I never thought I can accomplish it so easily. Thanks for that outstanding program-Flash Video MX Pro, it saves so much of my time and energy, and at the same time offers me such great benefits.
You will be surprised, that I only use its batch encoder to convert many videos in one time. Moyea Flash Video MX Pro is so lovely and I can not help showing you the steps from which I make miracle.
Do you see the picture below?

It is the interface of its batch encoder. Click the button “Import Video”, you can load many average video into these program at one time, I imported these videos by one time, then click “Start”, you can not even to wait for its result, just do other things, then you can go to the export folder to get the Flash video. Just so easy, is it cool?
Of course, if you want to personalize your video, you can also click “Customize” to make your video distinguished. Just have a try; you will love this tool as I do.
Good luck and thanks for sharing my happy experience!
You work for this company, don't you...

It is not virus. Absolutely. I have tried. It can process many many files at a time.
if you are interested, you can search Moyea Flash Video MX Pro in google for more information.
It has two modes: normal and batch encoder.

Wow thanks a lot I can now watch Youtube vids on my mobile !

You could've at least tried to be subtle about your blatant advertising.

Hi there. I saw in this forum many good programmers. Can any of you make a RSS program with embeded photos like newspanel???
RSS Hub is my choice of reader, and will probably always be. Even supports podcasts, and auto updates.
The New Viigo beta, for SURE! Has TONS of features, at least give it a look:
http://viigo.com/beta
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398571
I like BeyondPod. It works well for me.
pRSSReader. does its job simply and perfect
I know there are a ton of free ones but I've always gone bake to SPB Insight because it actually downloads the whole article and not just a link. Does anyone know of a free one which also has this feature? Basically in the morning before I set off to work I connect to my wireless network and update all my channels, there is no 3G available in my area, nor where I work, no wifi at work either, which is why I like to have whole pages downloaded. I have HTC RSS hub built into my rom but it only gives me brief headlines wanting to connect to the internet to view the whole article. Seems like a waste of time to me.

pRSSreader does that too AFAIK
Try Egress.

I really like the Egress 4.0.0 interface however it has horrible memory leaks (Once I uninstalled Egress the memory leaks stopped). I have yet to try 3.3.0.
I really like pRSSreader which you can find at the below URL. The new 1.4.x release really improved the UI. However, there are a few small bugs that the author David Andrš is really working hard to fix.

all this programms are good but not any can show pictures in today screen like new spanel.
where i can get paint for windows mobile??
thx
Try VSPainter or Pencil Box they are not free though
too bad that they are not free
are there any free programs?
If you're after an exact copy of MSPaint then CEPaint is what you're after, though again it's not free.
ETA: Actually, give this a shot, it's free.

For PPC image editors, you probably can't get much better than these three:
Pocket Picture (Just-as-good freeware):
http://osdmsoftware.googlepages.com/pocketpicture
Pocket Artist 3 (Pay-application):
http://www.conduits.com/products/artist/
XnView (Free cross-platform):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xnview
http://www.xnview.com/
http://www.xnviewpocket.org/
Having tried almost every image editor on the Diamond, I can conclude that the above options are the very best available, especially considering the requirement for full VGA compatibility, photo editing, multi-format etc.
Best regards,

Which version?
http://www.xnviewpocket.org/download_uk.html
The
"XnView Pocket v1.40 (Pocket PC 2002-2005/Windows Mobile 5-6)"
is for xscale but there is a:
XnView Pocket v1.40 (Pocket PC ARM)
which one is for the Diamond?
I just found out that there is in fact a freeware version of VSpainter which I found here
The one which is included in Dutty's ROM is PDACraft Paint.

hey all
So I'm putting out music and trying to get the release page in a simple, touch-friendly format. So far, so good...
http://dopanex.com
except that when I click on a link on my TP2 with Opera it asks me where I want to save the MP3, instead of playing/streaming it automatically.
Is there some way to get it to stream on mobile browsers as it does in a desktop browser? Some fancy html perhaps I can include in the page code to make it more mobile-friendly?
Is it just a TP2 thing? What happens when you click a song on your phone?
thanks!
This is the message I get when clicking one of the songs from Opera.. Pretty standard really.. I'll even get that message from the links on a site like this one-> http://www.filtermusic.net/ Who use a lot of .pls extensions and some others..
Nice music btw..

i've been trying to figure this out too. i feel like the Streaming Media app that is on the device should take care of this like how Quicktime does on the iPhone but it doesnt really do much of anything. ive had the phone for about 2 months now and that is one of the things on my short list left to get it working exactly like i want it to. so if anyone knows how to force Opera multimedia files to stream automatically i'd really appreciate it if you'd let me know.
