I can seem to get this to happen, when I setup a bluetooth connect from my laptop to my Jasjar all the laptop see the Jasjar as is a modem and wants me to fill in a number to dial, I want to just make a connect so I can use the Vodafone connect software on the laptop so it can use the 3G connection through the phone, I can use a usb connection as my usb port is broken, so unusable, any one know what I am doing wrong?
So you want to browse thew internet on your laptop, using the universal as a 3g modem?
If so when Vodaphone connect asks for a number use *99# That should make the phone use it's default 3g GPRS connection.
Hi and thanks for the reply but I am still having problems, I even tried and used my Jamin and it seems to do the same thing, create a modem connection and thats it. I have a Vodafone Mobile Connect account and when i try to run the software it can't find the phone through bluetooth because i can pair the phone and the laptop as I think all the laptop wantes to do is connect to the phone if it needs a modem. I don't really understand what is going on here. Has anyone done this before?
Hows this for crap, I just phoned i-mate and they told me you can't use any i-mate phone as a modem over bluetooth connection, you have to use the USB connection to use the phone as a modem. I find that very stupid.

I would like to be able to make my JasJar work as a Bluetooth modem for my laptop for fast access to the internet when i'm out and about... (only for times when i can't do what i need to on my JasJar!)
Has anyone got this working sensibly?
Despite trying for ages, I can't get the bundled connection software to work at all (through USB or Bluetooth!)... i have managed to install the drivers on the PC (from the cd but it hasn't helped).
Also, i have tried without success to create a new bluetooth modem connection with my laptop. It connects OK to the JasJar and then starts to dial a connection but it seems to stop dialing through for some reason and doesn't connect... (i am dialing *99#)
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
p.s. I have a 3G connection with Vodafone
i do not want buy a 3g data card for the laptop is it possble to feed the laptop
through wi-fi or with a cable from 3g universal
I dont think you can do it by wifi but you can connect the 2 devices by wifi no issue. I tnihk the same applies to the cable either USB or LAN. However you can by bluetooth. All you need to do is set up the exec to be discoverable and get the lap top to look for bluetooth devices and explore the services on them. You will them see the bluetooth modem. Then all you need to do is to create a link to your mobile operators gprs or 3g internet connection in the usual way. You will need to download the setup specific for your network.
Good luck
Also remeber to up the speed from the default as this assumesgprs and you have afaster connection with 3g.
If you do not have bluetooth on your laptop just buy a BT dongle for about £15 then you are away.

An XDA as a router! Wonder if MS will make a version of the Internet Connection Sharing Wizzard for WM5! LOL
I can see the use but not someone actually making it.
There is a thread on this somewhere.
I connect my universal to my laptop via the sync cable and then the laptop uses the universal as a modem and connects to teh web at 3g speed. The universal comes with wireless modem, you just have to play around to get the drivers on the laptop to see the universal when you plug in.
works well.

hey all.
thx 4 all the help, advice n guides here.
i have a htc prophet n a windows xp laptop. heard that u can use gprs via bluetooth to connect to internet on pc.howd u do that.plz outline.
You're probably confused... You have to establish an activesync connection by bluetooth and then you'll have access to the web... Just like using the cable but slower...
and how do u setup the active bluetooth connection?
You just have to activate the 'modem link' on the PPC. In Vista at least, all I do is create a new modem connection using the bluetooth modem on the PPC and dial *99#. Pretty simple....
In some ROMs there is an Internet Sharing Option....just activate it, select Bluetooth PAN & connect to the device from PC
could some1 plz outline the steps for setting up the connection, coz all i hear is 'murmuring' ..plz,am still new to all this ppc stuff

Hello friends!
I spent about 2 days on my phone wondering and trying to get internet connection on my Prophet...So I did it!It's like this:
When you connect your Prophet via USB it will show you new connection....
Go to Start/Control Panel/Network Connections and than click on left side "Set up a home or a small office Network"...So when you finish the wizard, restart your computer (do not disconnect Prophet) and it will work...It was the only way for me to get Internet Connection...I hope I helped someone just like others helped me...Greetings!
can i use GPRS surf the internet with laptop(not with the phone), is there any setting in order to surf the web? thanks!
I think It's not worth it...In Slovenia, where I live,GPRS is at least 10times more expencive than tipycal cable NET...Some of my friends tryed to connect laptop to NET by smartphone, but the speed in really low and also phone bill was shocking...So get standard internet...Greetings!
Is it something where I can use as a modem if I connect it to my notebook or computer if I don't have internet service or if I am on the road?
I have the Cingular 8125 and have the MediaNet unlimited package...is that all I need to do it or will I be charged for trying this?
Thanks!
Did your phone not come with a manual?
Modem Link uses the data connection on your phone to share the internet connection with a pc or laptop...if you don't have a data connection it's not going to do you any good.
I have medianet unlimited data plan...I did some searching yesterday ...it connected..but I couldn't browse at all...I also tried connecting with bluetooth but it kept saying Error 633
help please...
I have Tmobile and their data plan so I can speak to that. I use the Wizard as a modem and log into the GPRS network. I tried connecting via USB but was never all that successful so I tried via a bluetooth link and it works and works repeatably. First thing you have to do is establish the connection the right way, on my Dell it can be either a dial up networking connection or serial port, here you need dial up network. On Tmobile you dial in by dialing *99# and then you're logged in automatically and I can browse the net, send emails or whatever, it's like a fast dialup but slow by broadband comparisons. I'd have to say I spent a fair amount of time messing around with this using different settings, if you can log into your net then you should be able to browse. I do not use modem link however. I upgraded my ROM to the latest Tmobile rev and it was gone, just as well because I don't need it.
Modem link allows you to use the GPRS connectivity on your phone to connect your laptop/pc to the internet.
To use this you need
USB Cable for your phone OR a laptop with an InfraRed port
HTC USB Modem driver - should be on a CD provided with the phone, O2 UK provide it on a CD labelled Wireless Modem Driver.
_______________________________
Run the Modem Link application on your phone select either "IRDA COMM"(This InfraRed if you haven't guess) or "USB" as appropriate. If using USB connect the phone to the PC/Laptop now, if InfraRed align the ports now.
PC/Laptop will detect the device as Generic Serial and ask what it should do to find driver (assuming your using Windows XP), at this point you use the CD with the driver on browse to the folder containing the driver and click Next.
finish the hardware installation and your modem is ready to go.
If you want to use your GPRS connection provided by your network create a new dial up connection on your laptop set to use the HTC USB Modem as its modem, and set the phone number to *99# username should be the same as in your phones GPRS settings.
Hope this helps.
ok I accomplished setting and running as USB...I dont have infared...but I want to connect wirelessly thru my bluetooth device, "Blue Soleil" ....I'm having trouble..it say I'm connected to COM14 then it automatically disconnects and give me an error "Dialing *99#.... Error 692: There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device)."
Might not be much help but I always had issues connecting my notebook using Modem Link via Bluetooth. I don't think the BT stack thats on this device plays well with some other chipsets when it comes to modem connectivity. Could just be my experience though. I just broke down and got a short 1 foot USB cable I carry with my laptop.
Media Link is Great
I use Media Link to connect my desktop to the net at home. I live in the middle of nowhere and don't see the point having my wizard and a home phone just to connect at a dial-up speed. That's right, it's not very fast...but it works. If you have T-mobile, put in the cd that you got with the MDA and open it. In the CD you will find an OEM folder that gives you instructions on where to load the driver and how to set up the connection. It turns it into a modem.
I have Cingular and based on your instructions...the CD looks the same where it has the OEM folder and driver..but the installation instructions is only for USB type connection..
I Lost the CD
Can someone post the drivers from the CD? I have lost my CD and I want to connect my computer at work to the internet.. can someone help me out? I have T-Mobile MDA and unlimited internet plant. Which btw I think the hotspot plan is stupid.. I don't use it at all but yet I still have to pay for it.. grr.. but yea any help wit the driver?

I am wandering if there is a way to share my internet connetion between my alltel ppc 6800 with the new htc shift. I know how to link the phone with my laptop but I am currently looking at purchasing the shift to replace it and was wandering if the connection would work. If anyone has tried this please post.
P.S. the connection would be via bluetooth unless I converted the mini usb from the ppc 6800 to usb back to usb to plug into the shift. Thanks.
not sure if it could be done with BT, pretty sure it cant be done with USB (unless the shift can operate in host mode)
what should work is wifirouter (im sure the shift has wireless)
ok so how would i get the connection to work through a router? The only internet connection i have is through the ppc 6800.
nono, wifirouter is an app that you would run on your 6800, it essentially turns it into a wireless access point that other wifi enabled devices can use for internet access
where is the app available for download at?
Is that the only way it would work or could I configure the 6800 as a modem to connect?
ok I downloaded the app but still cant connect. I am trying the connection via my laptop and it stops at waiting for Internet connection sharing. is there some setting that needs to be changed or what am i doing wrong?
You ever figure out how to get the internet on your pda using the 6800 and the connection? I would like to do this bluetooth with my setup.
The newest version of WMWiFiRouter ($$$) allows you to do this over wifi, BT, or USB. If you have the money, it's a great program.
I have WMWifiRouter and use it with my laptop. How do i use it with bluetooth to get internet on my Dell X51? The x51 wants to dial a number when you setup a connection.
