Using non-BT headset while unit is in cradle

Is there any way we could use the non-BT headset while the unit is docked in the cradle? I'm so frustated why O2 decided to place the headset socket at the bottom.
Your only options would be either to use the speakerphone, or buy a Bluetooth headset.

Or use a mini-sync cable that doesn't cover the hole.
Hmmm... is it possible to alter the cradle to make a passage for the headset? Wouldn't it break the cradle or I might hit something that will malfunction it?
it's hard to say without taking it apart and looking
maybe it's just the connector and a joining of the power and usb cables in there
who knows if one does not try
opening it
hmm... if you take a look at the back side of cradle, there is a power connector (left from the cable) and a hole, with piece of rubber (right from the cable).
...anybody knows, what that is??

I know... but I've got good news and I've got bad news for you...
Good news - it's a blanking grommit over the place where the O2 headphones plug in, giving you full headphone functionality via the cradle.
The bad news - it appears only to be installed on the serial cradle!
I have both a serial and a USB cradle - the serial is so I can talk to the unit from Virtual PC (doesn't support USB). There was no blanking cover on the serial and the socket is visible, but I had to take the base apart on the USB to discover that it doesn't have the socket fitted.
I remember that the serial was listed as a "serial cradle with audio" when I bought it. Sadly another example of O2's poor after sales support.
THANX mtbsoft,
does it only need the connector to be installed or the serial cradle is something completely different inside, I mean from the audio output point of view, USB and serial boards inside are sure different.. )
From what I could see (this is from memory), the USB board has all the necessary tracks on it to permit the jack/connector just to be soldered on. However, I haven't opened the serial so I'm just assuming it has the same number/placing of contacts.
I'll dig out my torq screw drivers and my camera some time and post some comparitive shots.
thanks mtbsoft,
please do update me about this, regarding what electronic parts to buy and how to work it out. i really want to make use of my cradle, and if it does need some soldering or whatever, i would definitely have it done... by someone else

HELP - Connector broken on bottom of XDA II. Can't Charge

This is probably a fairly simple problem for you guys.
The connector on the bottom of my XDA2 appears to have come dislodged.
It has been getting harder and harder to get it to charge recently but with a bit of pressure in one direction it appeared to charge OK.
That is until my GF plugged it in to charge and now its totaly dislodged.
I think the socket has broken free from its soldered terminals into the PCB inside the XDA2.
Is there a quick fix anyone can suggest (I am a qualified Electronic Engineer and can solder) or is there a repair centre (hopefully near Newcastle upon tyne (North East UK).
PLEASE someone HELP!!!!
Tom
i have the same problem, but i got the pin chart from here, and wired a charge hole on the outside. now i can only sync via IR. lot slower that usb. for some reason, the solder wont hold the same plug the way the manufacter did.
good luck.

Pin Diagram for XDA 2 Connector
Where on here can I get pin connector.
Also where can I get tool to unscrew back off XDA2 so I can try and repair myself
Tom
1) use the search function. it's on wiki.xda-developers.com
2) you seem pretty unsure of yourself for a EE qualified engineer. Why, where does one obtain a torx screwdriver? A T6 will do.
We get this alot at work and use these guys. email them on

35 quid for a fix 72hr turnaround.
And no i have nothing to do with them
Possible solution
Hello,
I have the same problem and have managed the following solution to be able to charge the device with "a connector", its working perfect for me:
Note: You will lost some headset-functionality, I have tested that no internal components are affected, because the PIN used for power supply is cutted from the mainboard.
Disasemble the Device completely to have the main circuit board in the hand free from other coponents to be able to solder properly.
Buy a 4-contacts mini-jack connector (2.5mm)
Cut the Power Supply cable Power-Jack to replace it with the Mini-Jack (Image2 and Image4 )
Solder a cable to the 3 last ping of the base connector (Image1)
Cut (with Dremel for example...) one of the connectors of the Jack soldered on the mainboard (Image 3 and Image5)
Solder the cable that comes from the Base connector to the onboard Jack (Image 3 and 5) This is to get positive power from the Jack connector to the right place on the mainboard.
I hope this is enough, if you need more details please let me know.
Regards,
I have the same problem, though I am able to charge my qtek 2020 by putting it in one direction.
I am thinking about soldering a femal mini-usb port using pins 13,20,21,22 for positive power, 16,17,18 for ground, and 14,15 for UDC+ and UDC-. Has anyone managed to do this ?
Aw crap. Same thing's just happened to my XDA. The connector at the base has snapped. It's still connected (barely) but charging and data transfer won't work.
Is there any way to replace the connector with a mini-usb port at all or an alternative method that doesn't require me to send my phone out for 3 days?

Modified USB headset connector

Dear all,
I just spent hours modifying the original usb connector taken from the headset. My aim was to modify it to charge the hermes while connected to my car stereo. I managed to open the connector and solder on two extra cables for charging. My problem now is that the phone doesn't recognise the headset any-more.
So here my question: how does the phone recognise that the headset is connected? Do I need to bridge any connections (e.g. on the usb data side etc.) for the phone to switch from internal loudspeaker to output throught the connector? Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ralf

miniUSB connector?

Hey ppl
I've just broke my bottom connector for the second time - by using a car plug. This connector is so weak...
I thought of resoldering it with a miniUSB connector, has anyone tried it? It would be better IMHO.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=242772&highlight=connector
wallaby and himalaya share connector as i'm using my wallaby cradle
so guess if you wire it to a miniusb it would work just fine too
Thanks, good man
I've also found this article in Wiki
OK, as for now I have resoldered my connector (again...). But - one pin is lost. D+. So, I can charge it, but not synchronize
So, I have to either find a new connector, or mount this miniUSB connector.

Serial Adapter/sync cable for the Kaiser/TyNT II/Tilt

Anyone know how to add an RS-232 serial port to the Kaiser? I need it for many things. I have read that the 8125 and the 8525 have had serial adapters that plug into the MINI-USB adapter on the phone and HTC told me that if I could find one it would work. Unfortunately it is impossible to find. Any ideas on where to look?
