I've been playing a lot a games on various emulators and have run across a problem. The Align Screen dialogue keeps popping up in the middle of game play. I think it happens when I push a direction and the center enter key at the same time.
Is there a way to stop this from happening?
Excellent question, although I've found that "Align Screen" happens when I hit the center key along with the Messaging key, located on the top left hand side of the phone, rather than the center key + direction (just tried it on my 8125).
I also play emulators (MorphGear, mainly) and have to restart the application for the controls to work accurately again, after "Align Screen" happens. Argh.
Is there any way to remap that key combination? Might it be hard coded, as is a hard reset? What are the other key combinations?
It's definatly the center key plus a direction for me.
I just download Morphgear, and even with 240 mhz overclock it barley runs any PCE (Turbo Grafx 16) games. Have you tried it with any PCE games?
Strange. I wonder why it's different on yours. Mine is definitely the Message Key / Center Key combination. I have a Cingular 8125, BTW.
Honestly, I haven't tried any PCE games, but I've had loads of fun playing Sega Master System games and 'Tender (NES) games. The Sega games play well, sans the over clocking; NES, not so much. With over clocking, I was finally able to play NES games, but when trying some SNES or Genesis games, wasn't very pleased.
That still hasn't solved the problem though....
Anyone know of a list of key combos for the HTC Wizard and / or how to disable / remap them?

My mistake, it's the same on mine. Hard to tell with all of the frantic button mashing.

I guess our only resolve is to use the keyboard rather than the d-pad.
Sucks.
Any help out there?
Same thing on mine. It'd be nice to confirm with HTC or Cingular if this is normal behavior or not... Anyone have connections?

Has anyone got MAME(arcade emulator) working on xda II?
Cheers.
Nope..
Tried MegaCE 3 9.5 .. Gets stuck with a blank screen..
:-(
Not tried any of the others.
Greg
not MAME,or xdaII But nintendo entertainment system on xda
I use PocketNester an have 100 NES Roms on sd card, works perfectly
You have to use the hardware buttons at the top of the XDA 2 with PocketNester though, right?
yea, i use the calender 4 a and the volume 4 b, it gets sum gettin use to
it be better if u can landscape it, but i tried 2 diffrent lanscaping progs, an they didnt work, or made it worse
Try PocketGB. You can play GBA NES and Gamegear games and use any hardware buttons.

I'm running an XDA-I and can't seem to get the buttons mapped appropriately. Any hints for this?
I just like using the full screen skin for pocket nester and map the B button to the volume control down button. That way, you can run and jump at the same time (in Mario for example). What I'm trying to look for are those 3D stickers made out of epoxy and putting them on an overlay over the onscreen buttons - that way it will be easier on the thumbs.
HELP
I'm using pocketnes on the XDA and it is awful. All of the games are really choppy and not worth playing. Where can I find all of these great emulators you guys are talking about. Thanks.
I had installed iMAME and MAMECE and both of them worked on the MDAII.
iMAME is faster and better sound but limited roms, MAMECE is a bit slower, more games and bad sound.
but I lost the installation during a memory card installation

To start off, I don't have a Wizard, I own a Universal. I am thinking about moving to the Wizard for gaming. I like the button setup on the wizard. Now, I know most of you are thinking, don't consider the buttons because the phone keys can't be mapped. However, I would like to recommend a program to you all called aebuttonplus, which will allow you to map the phone buttons to "virtual buttons." These virtual buttons can be recognized by programs like Pocetnestor and gnuboy. At least they work on my Universal.
My other concern is that the processor isn't fast enough. Seems like you all are overclocking, but apparently you can't run spbplus, which I really need. This may be a problem for me, and there is no discussion here, I have to run spbplus.
So, my next thought is the Apache. A faster processor, from what I understand, that doesn't need overclocking. I just don't like the antenna nub. Also, the buttons aren't quite an issue on this device, but I don't know about the joystick.
I would also recommend to you all the bluetooth gamepad, I have found drivers that work on the Universal. It really takes gaming to a new level on a PDA.
Thanks for any advice/thoughts/responses.
hey give me more info on this bluetooth gamepad.
My wizard is not overclocked and runs SPB Pocket Plus without any problem, the device is as responsive as it it without SPB Plus.
i have yet to really get into gaming on the wizard... the butotn layout just does work for me good..
im thinking the bast games for wizard are point and click type games like myst or simple games like who wants to be a millionare
need for speed is ok but madden is unplayable for me.. control is horrible
Wow, 200 views and 3 replies. You Wizard folk are gamin' fools, LOL.
Anyhow, the bluetooth gamepad is called the Freedom Bluetooth gamepad. There's lots of different brandnames for it. Google away.
Koksie, I was referring to overclocking in order to run game emulators. Problem is, overclocking is supposedly disabled by sbp. Don't know why, but that's what I've read in these forums.
Guyver, thanks for your reply on the buttons, I guess you are saying the buttons work okay for gaming?
I can't believe you guys don't play game emulators (like NES, gameboy, etc.). A nice time waster when you are sitting in a department store, wedding, etc.
Sorry, I misunderstood your post.
I use Omapclock to sometimes overclock my Wizard when running TomTom and it works fine, in TCPMP my clock speed is shown as 226 Mhz when I put it in 240 in Omapclock. When I put it back to 180 Mhz in Omapclock ( the default speed), TCPMP shows a 170 Mhz speed, so Omapclock works imo.
I used to play around with Morphgear and Ninentendo emulators on my Magician, but the button lay-out on that device made it hard to play games. Sound and display of the games were ok though. On my Wizard I have not tried it, although with this button lay-out is should be easier to control the games. Speed and sound of the games might be an issue though, even when overclocked.
Thanks, Koksie, good info!
I can overclock my Wizard to 264mhz with SPB pocketplus. That's plenty to run a snes emulator etc. It is an arse not being able to assign hardware buttons though :/
I've grabbed the emulators off the ftp, but where do I get roms for games?

Mike, you're exactly the person I want to talk to. Try a program called aebuttonplus, and you can assign the phone buttons to "virtual buttons" which are recognized by the emulator. It works on my universal, at least, and the button setup on the Wizard is much better than the Universal. Give it a shot and let me know if that helps.
I actually meant to say that the layout isnt too good fpr gaming...atleast 4 me
well with pocket nester. if you turn off GAPI landscape mode works fine and you can assign keyboard buttons to whatever you want.
as of right now, to make it usable also turn on alternate scanning of keys for multiple button presses.
knowing both of these makes games "playable" but not nearly as nice as a real joystick.
our best bet is to bug any developer or possibly collectively pay together to have some fix all the open source emus out there.
landscape Is by far the best way to game on this bad boy. but from eperience the keypad is lackluster AT best for controlling games.
right now the only emu out that supports keypad/landscape mode is pocket nester.
turn off gapi in video settings. and turn on alternate key scanning for best possie controls on device.
sorry for misspellings/grammar errors, I am posting this from my wizard.
I have Pocketgnuboy and PocketNester on my 8125 and I'm having problems using the Green and Red phone buttons for gaming. While the programs can map the keys in the program, it won't work for the games. Is there a block imposed on these keys to prevent mapping these keys for games?
Well, I have noticed personally that some games will run with full functions over all the keys and ect; while some do not... I had bought Sky Force to test and see if I could play it with mapping the fire keys to my call keys. Sure enough it worked. On the other hand, trying to play games on PocketNester doesn't seem to work with the mapped keys or even the on-screen controller.
If anyone has an answer, please keep us posted.
Sorry to bump this back up. I have been playing with games on my 8125 and the itch to be able to use all the buttons on the phone for gaming had come up again. I was wondering if anyone had been able to figure out how to get the green and red call buttons to function in an emulator like PocketGnuBoy or PocketNester even though the mapping portion of the program recognizes the key. Thanks again.
I dont normally play games on me mobile but things have changed since I got my SPV3100 and now my Ameo!
Was thinking we could start a list with useful links of games that actually work on the ameo.
Ive managed to find a classic, wolfenstein 3d, its a complete port and it runs really well!
I was wondering tho if anyone can get Quake or Doom working. (found hpc doom but it crashes at the very start, looks like it would work but doesnt)
What games do you guys have working on your Athena?
Got Doom Working! Its Great!
Managed to get doom working fine.
Heres where you need to go to download the program, it runs in Portrait at the moment but works smoothly nonetheless.
http://home.freeuk.com/gamefreaks/pql/gfDoom.htm
Keys:
Joystick - Directional Control
Tap at the bottom half of the screen / Comm Manager Button - Fire
If you want to exit, click the X in the top right, then Press the camera button. Once in the main menu, move down to exit game and then press the camera button again.
You need to have the DOOM1.wad file (read the readme file that comes with the program from explainations)
Very nice!
Have fun!
My personal favourites are
SPB Brain Evolution (although it infuriates me!)
SPB Air Islands (the game sucks, but it has some cool minigames and it's VGA!)
ScummVM is a must! Its free, you just have to get the game files. There are even some free games.
Favourites of mine, Sam 7 Max, Simon the Sourcerer, Day of the Tentacle
It works, but you have problems starting it up. Start with the pda in portrait mode, and fumble your way around to the options menu to get to graphics settings and turn on the 2x doubling. Once thats done it works fine from then on.
Megadrive Emulator
Managed to get PicoDrive working altho all the keys are messed up because of the screen orientation, it seems to get the joystick confused, and makes UP left and DOWN right for some reason, still looks good on the Ameo tho!
Keep em coming!
Thanks for the games so far

Gotta agree with you on Spb Brain Evo ..simply the nuts. I also like the 'Real Dice' ensemble of games like;
Real Dice Mahjong
Real Dice Dominos
Real Dice Sudoku Master II......all are in high quality genuine VGA. They look and play really well.
Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe (2.0 beta) works perfectly (just remember to set the phone to portrait view before starting). Now with the "original" music sounds!

SIM Coupe (SAM Coupe emulator) works okay if you start in Portrait mode with only the "keyboard" menu being present as a glitch. (I thought I'd posted about Pocket Commodore Plus/4, too, which works but is PAINFULLY slow sometimes).
For bought games, Broken Sword (Astraware) demo looks very very promising indeed; it rotated the screen correctly and looks very pretty, and appears to be playing at the correct speed.
Hi
This is my first post so hope im doing this ok.
I am thinking of getting one of there phones as a friend has one.
I currently have a hermes and all is ok, the problem is that the athena is lacking in buttons on the front that are needed to play games, like "fire" in worms for example.
none of the keyboard buttons seem to work.
Is there a way round this?
thanks
Sean.
I have the same trouble, Worms in X7500 only admit two buttons and the game requires three buttons to work correctly.
Can someboy modify the wwpsave.dat as somebody did for the HTC Touch to make the x7500 buttons workable for this game???
Thank you.
Hey, I found a link here on xda to a youtube video showing a game(Art of Fighting), and I wanna know if it really just a ROM emulator is, or is it game you install on your phone?
The user is 520darky on youtube, and he's got a few other games aswell.
If someone can reply to my question, can they please tell me where to get the games, either emulated ROM or Cab files.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
scruffy_joe
Morphgear or FPSECE. Do a google/xda search!
actually, for running art of fighting the emulator you need is Final Burn, it runs neo-geo games, CPS1 and CPS2, you can find roms in here http://romhustler.net. All games I've tried run pretty smooth ( super street fighter 2 turbo, marvel Vs. Capcom, art of fighting, street fighter alpha 2, etc )
any 1 got this working
managed to get the game started, credits loaded, and started a fight
but when i try to assign the keys it just doesnt work
i can assign 3 of the dpad keys but one always goes to home
also the on screen buttons, do not work as the game automatically pauses and goes into portrait mode
is there any easy was of disabling this so i can use finalburn, as graphics are quality

Yeah it works great for me, go into options and make sure enable screen keypad is ticked and use mode 1 (fire buttons) - then when you start a game pause it and go to Options-Keys- and re=map the buttons....i've got my back button (0x5C) mapped to coin and the centre button as start (0x8E) and everything works fine.
im using finalburn and havent managed to get either of super street fighter 2 turbo, marvel Vs. Capcom, art of fighting, street fighter alpha 2 to work - managed to get cps1 roms to work but not neogeo. iv got the neogeo.zip (bios) in the roms directory but still no luck. maybe im using an incompatible rom.
can anyone email me or pm me a link to a working rom?
I have mapped the keys and made sure the screen buttons are on
still my game pauses wen i press anywhere on the screen and i can not map the home key, all other keys i can map
but i only have 6 i can map??
is this anything to do with the cooked rom i am running maybe, swift
