S model
is the S model really that bad? what went wrong with it?
Smiley
the xda2s was the worst thing ever, main problem was the microphone on the device was terrible and people could hardley hear you, and the bluetooth did not work as it should so the headsets did not function properly..
So the XDA2s is ok as long as you not useing it for phone calls

I've got a 2s and a 2i and I think thats a harsh statement. Everyone has different needs.
The microphone on my 2s is absolutely fine. After a short time with the 2i I still haven't decided which one I'm going to keep. Sure the bt stack is better on the 2i (presumably only until the next 2s rom release) but is that enough to make me give up the keyboard? As a heavy emailer I just don't know if I can go back to all those screen taps with the stylus. The 2s has it faults at the moment but after the novelty of the 2i has worn off a bit I'm kinda leaning back towords the 2s.

You do not sell the XDA IIi SIM free and SIM unlocked? DO you ship outside the UK?
OK sorry it was a bit harsh, Only on most of the XDA2s's that i had the microphone worked but people i talk to alway say it was hard to hear me, as if i had my finger over the mic hole, witch of corse i did not. And with the bluetooth not working correct that made macking quality phone calls not possible.
Yes good point with the keyboard some people like the idea of it being there when you need it, and slid away when not needed, but some of them stated to loosen up badlley after a week or 2 of use
For us being a mobile phone shop and a customer caller us but then is having trouble hearing what we say is no good advert.
I will speak to o2 and seee if i can get some ( very few ) unlocked so i can sell sim free anywhere
i saw a qtek 9090 (xdaIIs) loooks HORRIBLE !! specially when the keyboard sticks out....it has 60% chances of breakin apart when the keyboard sticks out....but still i would go for xdaIIs only if it EVER HAD 1.3 MEGA PIXEL CAM (no probs even if the resolution and image quality is like xdaIIi)
I am reside in US and would like to buy O2 xda IIi as well. Applecom can you please forward me some info on how to get one from your shop. Thanks.
Ok, still no luck as far as finding a new XDA IIi unlocked/simfree. Can anyone point me to anyone selling one, or shipping one to the US.
Thanks,
Mike

THe XDA IIi is worth £500 (more sim free)
When I get my stock in, I will be looking around 425 mark. Negotiable.
Thanks,
Imran.
Or just get one from O2 for £384 with full support and warranty.
Is there any obvious reason why the K-JAM is about £60 ($108) more expensive than the 9100? I'm assuming they're either made in the same factory or the same "blueprints" are given to each company to make the device. If this is the case then I'm guessing I-Mate is just playing off of it's well established brand name... or maybe there are just some software differences.
Thoughts?
The only thing I can think of is the support you get from I-mate. Now I know its not great but have you tried to find an English support site for the QTEK..
Hehe, this is true.

TBH I've not been able to work out what the 'offical' qtec site is... They all seem to be too naff to be a corprate site.
Is it http://www.qtek.fi/ ?

A better site but "distributör för Qtek-produkterna" not them
Still - I have to say the lack of web site etc has convinced me that the extra £50 or so and 1 year warrenty instead of 2 is worth it in the long run so I'll probably get an Imate.
Terran
can we have a list of best price/dealer for the qtek 9100 and the imate k jam sim free, from all purchasers to be in the uk?
qtek 9100 on buymobilephones.net £429 inc vat
imate k-jam amazon.co.uk £449 inc vat
anyone found better deals?
thanks for any replies.
Qtek 9100 on www.smartdevicesdirect.com is £410.08
I-mate K-JAM on www.smartdevicesdirect.com is £468.83
I've ordered the Qtek from above back when it was only £400 (they raised the price by £10 pre-tax!).
Hrm, £449.99 for a K-JAM, thats a very good price indeed. If I trusted that Amazon would get stock early I'd probably change my order.
for a change i have to be patient, going on holiday next week, so wont place an order untill i get back

the more i think about it, i would prefer to get the i-mate k-jam, due to the availability of support.
with this type of product you are more likely to have a software problem than a hardware problem, two years is great but probably not as useful as support.
i still cannot find on-line support for qtek in english

Yes, it will cost £349 + £35 shipping around HK5500 when it ship to me, earlier, i think this device will only cost USD4xx, but now it cost much than that, reconsider to get one or not, for me, HK5500 for just a phone, not so reasonable, Thanks for the information

Amazon is good but they don't indicate when they will get stock !! If you are a patient person for a new PDA then it's worth waiting at least a month or so before buying as the price always drops.
If your anything like me though waiting a couple of months after release would be detrimental to my health  .

Hi I live in the United Staes. I am now presented with an opportunity to be able to buy the O2 Exec. So basically I have 2 choices, the Imate Jasjar which is available here, thus with warranty coverage, or the O2 XDA Exec which I really want for its color. I don't really know if there is a hardware difference. I want to buy the O2 Exec from one of the members here. He was kind enough to offer the responsibility to send it to O2 if there is a problem with it later.
Does the I-Mate Jasjar have the corporate settings too?
So if you guys were me, what would you guys go for?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Having owned both a JJ and Exec I would, at this point, recommend the Exec because:
- in Corporate mode it is quicker and has more storage space
- it does not appear to have the SMS notification bug
And like you I prefer the all black colour of the XDA.
Also in the UK you can get an unlocked Exec for less than £300 while a JJ can be £540/£640 (contract/SIM free).
The hardware is identical, and the corporate settings on the Exec closely resemble the Jasjar install when you skip the customization after a hard reset. In all honesty, I ended up buying the Exec, it looks way cooler, it also has BLUE keyboard backlight instead of red, which makes it much much better visible at night.
@Jah. Could you kindly elaborate what the SMS notification bug is. I am asking this because for me on the JJ ocasionally when a new SMS arrives it causes my phone to freeze. Just wondering if this is what you are referring to as the bug.
Kind Regards

Unfortunate for me that I don't know anyone in the UK. I'll be buying the Unopened Box O2 Exec for £500.

@cktlcmd
This is probably something you already considered and checked, but I thought I'd bring it up just in case. My main concern would be the question of whether it's locked or unlocked. For £500 I would imagine it should be unlocked. Which carrier will you be using?

Yes, I have a Jasjar and use T-Mobile. I'm not a big user on the voice side of things and haven't had any problems with reception, but my limited use of that aspect might not make me the best source for an opinion.
I do use the data connection often (which is why I like T-Mobile's $19.99 unlimited data) and haven't had any problem getting a signal that way.
Ultimately I'm really happy with it because it's just the device I've been wanting. I use it for just about everything.
OK, I just bought the BRAND NEW, UNOPENED, O2 XDA Exec. I can't wait for it to be on my hands. Any tips as to a good screen protector, and where to buy it from? A link would be really appreciated.

I bought my screen protectors from PPC Techs at http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~iMATE_JASJAR-496~area~home.htm
Their WriteSHIELDS come in two flavors, the C2 (Crystal Clear) and the AG (Anti Glare.) I've used both and found they are both very good. I have a crystal one on my old Dell and have never had to change it. To me, the crystal one is so clear that you really don't know it's there. That said, I have the anti glare one for my Universal, primarily because of the phone aspect. The anti glare version (which also stands up to usage very well) is also good with keeping fingerprints to a minimum so it works better when you have it up to your face too. PPC Techs offers a package where you can get one of each and that's actually what I bought for the Universal, I'm just using the AG currently.

I bought my Jasjar from Convergent Technology at http://www.convergentech.com/
Their price looks to be $1079.99, down from $1199.99 when I bought it. The color (colour )was never an issue for me, so I went with a company I had already worked with to give me a bit more confidence that any issues I might have (which I haven't, fortunately) would be worked out with a minimum of headaches.
kelford, thanks for the info, the vendor you used is fairly pricey, e.g. their price on the K-Jam is nealry $150 over what MMB charges! I had to do a double take to make sure they are not posting C$

sclui56, that very well could be. at the time i was looking to buy though, every vendor i found (except ebay) had the JJs for $1,200 so there didn't seem much of a choice at the time. that was when it was first out though, (some sites still listed pre-order status when this vendor had them in stock) and prices hadn't started falling yet. obviously their prices drop much slower than everyone else's! they must have less gravity or something.
in any event, there were two reasons i bought from them. 1) all of my previous PDA purchases had been direct through Dell so this one was a little different and being such a high ticket item there was a real trust concern. going with someone i knew was important. 2) (and probably even more importantly) i wanted it now!!! so yes, i could have waited and saved some money, but now i've had all this time to play with the JJ!

I got the screen from here, http://www.runpda.com/ , it cost £93.00

You've been trying to sell this for the last for months it seems - stick it in the m.e.n or the loot! Or stick it on ebay - asking the same things in different threads won't necessarily get you different answers....perhaps if you posted a price that you wanted rather than asking for offers. As I guide I sold a mint one on ebay last week for £300. The sooner you sell it, the more it'll sell for - the price of new technology goes down, not up, with age.

Mine is worth more than a refurb one because I have:
iPaq HX4700 (as new boxed) With WM5 installed
Original cradle, instructions, cables, disks and box etc
3 stylus including 1 with built in pen
Spare Battery 2000mAh x 2
Spare Battery 3600mAh x 1
External standalone charger for spare batteries
Additional power/sync cable
HP emergency charger (works off 9v battery)
Clip-on Thumbpad (part no 375265-001)
GPS - Rikaline X6 High Sensitivity CF Receiver (brand new still in box unused except for testing)
I agree , E-bay is crap ! I have just tried to sell my Exec and ended up in a tricky situation with a buyer with no feedback trying to get me to send to and unverified address - Paypal state that I'll only be covered by the seller protection policy if I send to a verified address , But I mailed e-bay about the matter and they suggested I go ahead and sell to the guy anyway ! talk about contradiction !
This is the third succesive time I have tried to sell an item on ebay and had the auction end with some idiot trying to rip me off
E-bay only seem to be interested in collecting their fee
Fortunately , I found a buyer oustside of ebay , and should I be looking to sell anything in the future , I'll be doing the same
Ebay just seems to be a big headache where higher value items are concerned these days :?

Hp's have *warranty* as well, and the 'refurb' classification is a generalisation, I have it on good authority the ebay items are brand new end of line with a full 2 yr warranty. They're even selling them from hp's www.ipaqchoice.co.uk site for £250! All the accesories are cheap too....
Richard
I can't help myself...
Ipaq choice are not cheap for accessories. If you purchase the accessories from Ipaq Choice you would pay £519.48 The following prices are cut and paste directly from the Ipaq Choice website
(they exclude VAT),
Screen Protectors Covertec £9.36
Battery 1,800 mAh (hx4700 series) HP £48.51
Extended Battery 3,600mAh (hx4700) HP £82.55
iPAQ 9-Volt Emergency Power Adapter HP-Belkin £8.51
USB Power Sync Travel Kit Belkin £29.78
Stylus 3-Pack Replacement Kit HP £11.91
Thumb Keyboard HP £27.23
SD Card (512MB) HP £62.12
GPS Receiver G-Space £110.63
HP iPAQ hx4700 Pocket PC HP £295.74
You are welcome to think that the HX4700 is nowhere near as good as a HTC Universal, however I personally think both PDAs have pros and cons. The biggest con for the HX4700 is the lack of built in phone and 3G (although it wasn't orginally purchased as that type of device). While the HTC Universal is relatively big and heavy, and as good as the screen is, it's still not as good or big as the HX4700. Not everyone wants their phone built in to a PDA.
I've made a choice that I need my phone built into my PDA, and I need 3G speed so I have a HTC Universal, however it took me many months to finally accept that I could not keep using 2 PDAs. I've lived with both devices for a long time and it's not as clear cut as "the HX4700 is nowhere near as good as a universal".

I've still got them both, and I've also run the wm2005 update for the hx4700 ( did you? It's only just out - the official version I mean  )
and do not rate it in comparison for the Universal. There is a lag opening menus despite the fast processor, and the display on the ipaq doesn't compare with my toshiba e800 or the jasjar in VGA.
Richard
I obvioulsy misunderstood about your mention of cheap accessories
There are some good registry tweaks for getting the HX4700 running smoothly, they are different to the HTC Universal ones. In my opinion I got the HX4700 running faster. I use a USA ROM and yes I've only had it installed for 3 weeks but that was long enough to get to know the performance.
My wife has my old Toshiba e800 and again in my opinion the screen is not as good as the iPaq. I'm sorry if you don't like me having a different opinion to you.
I have already said how good I think the HTC Universal is - I already own one!
I respect your opinions and I also like other PDA's!
Be happy
