Google Maps with MDA - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
Has anyone used Google Mobile Maps with MDA?
When I connect via MDA/Wi-Fi to www.google.com/gmm, it is asking me to download a .JAD file? What is that type of file?
Thanks

NB

That's a Midlet file.
Open your Midlet Manager program to install it.

I use Map for PDA http://mapforpda.com. It's WAY better than the Java Google Maps. The best part is that you can switch between Google Maps, Virtual Eart, Yahoo Maps, etc. etc. as a map provider.

JAD is a Java file, you need to use the MIDLET manager to properly install and use it.
Gave it a try, but did not like it. Seems slow and the user interface is lacking...

Hallo,
It's not possible to install maps trough .cab files.
TT has to install map related lines in the .exe file, .doc file and in the reg.
So you have to install trough setup.
Succes, Hannes 8)
Use a card reader.
Or you could install the maps to a local folder on the PC and then copy the directory over via activesync.

Can you please tell me how you managed to get TomTOm installed? I get the error message every time: Tomtom was unsuccessfully installed.

Ok I installed Italy maps but now the program asks for an activation process. Even giving the code embedded in the map, the activation on the tom tom site doesn't work...

can you give us a step by step process. and what versions of TT have you used ?
I installed tom tom 5.1 copying .cab files in the jasjar, then I copied the italy_plus folder in the jasjar and the program acknowledges the map ... but it asks for the activation code, saying that i must insert the disposal code (shown by the program) in a tom tom site mask. I tried but the site says that the disposal code is wrong.
I Got my TT5 working on the K-Jam! (Partially) This is what I did:
1 - TT5 did not istall properly over active sync - So I installed all of the CAB filed to my Storage Card and installed directly on the divice (I belive there are 4 files + get 1 voice file by searching the CD) I belive some the files are named ttn, GPS, etc)
2 - I emailed TomTom support and sent them a copy of my card so they can allow me to Re-activate my account (Belive they needed a copy of the card/cd, invoice of purchase and device invoice -- u can scan them , attached them, to a word file and email it to them). My code originally activated for my JAM (diff device code).
3 - I used the TomTom Map software to install the map to my PC. Then I copied the folder to my devices card via active sync
4 - when I started the TT5 -- it asked me for the activation code (which I got through ttcode.com)
5 - I activate the GPS control panel on Windows 5.0 (instructions I found on this site)
That is as far as I have gotten -- I am trying to figure out how to LINK the GPS to the K-Jam -- TomTom only lists a few coms open, but not one that the Blue Tooth lists.
Once I Figure it out -- I will post again!
Email me if you have any questions.
Hoped this helped!
In total you have to copy 4 files
mobile device\tomtom\CurrentMap.dat
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.bmp
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.chk
\Program Files\navigator\data.chk
\Program Files\navigator\tomtom navigator.exe
\Program Files\navigator\navigator.cfg
that's all.
data05.bmp and .chk is for example, you can choose one of your own voices.
Look this up on your device other wise i send you my files so you can try them.
Good Luck

check www.htcclub.net for the soultion for installing TT5 and make it work !

Windows Mobile 5.0 emulator ?

are there any standalone Windows Mobile 5.0 emulator can work without Visual Studio .NET, I really want to try out the platform before buying a Wizard.
Yes, I have it on my blog. It's 250MB or so. Use FlashGet or some download accelerator to grab it. Check the October 2005 archives.

Discovered your blog a few days ago, I'm still in the process of getting the most of it!
Congrats for such a good website!
Looks like you finished your server move, but the link is still unavailable. Any news? Somewhere else to get it from?

If you're looking to share large files, use a free service like www.yousendit.com or www.dropload.com.

For what is this emulator good for? Thx
I too downloaded this about a month ago just to give WM5 a look. It wasn't exactly to try before I buy, but I did have a bit more of a play while I was waiting for my K-JAM. can be a bit slow, but not too bad.

Useful to try a software. Especially on these early WM2005 days. I tried PocketZenPhone a few days ago, and could not totally removed it. A quick try on the emulator would have been enough, and would have kept my device clean
Step 1: get the WM2005 Emulator -> done
Step 2: install it -> done
Step 3: "connect" it to ActiveSync -> need your help again
I do not have Visual Studio and all this stuff, only the Emulator downloaded from Buzz's website. I can see the DMA (Direct Access Memory) connection method in Emulator's ActiveSync program, but nothing related to DMA on the Destop's ActiveSync (4.1, downloaded from Buzz's website too 8))...
Did someone already manage to dot it? In the meantime, is there a workaround to install on the Emulator a software with a .exe installer (no direct acces to the .cab files)?

run "C:\Program Files\WM_50_EMU\DeviceEmulator.exe" without any option.
You'll get the screen below. Read the options through and try to setup the networking.
I didn't coz i never needed AS connection to Emulator.
Optionally you can install those exe instal packages and then take the cab files manually from
c:\Program Files\Microsoft Active Sync\
and copy them over to emulator.

Yes, just found this solution too. Note that sometimes, the .cab files are not stored on the Active Sync folder, but a specific folder (C:\Program FIles\Pocket Informant\ for example).
I'll post some news as soon as I make some progress on the full Active Sync connection...
I installed the emulator and get a black screen on the skin. Do a reset - get a quick flash of 3 icons and then a black screen.
Any ideas?

Problem installing opera mini

I have read good things about the speed of this basic browser on this forum so decided to install it. I have tried downloading the files directly to my XDA mini s and via my pc but I cannot manage to install. The midlet manager opens, tries to connect to the internet but fails everytime.
Do I need something else to install the .jad and .jar files?

Nope, you only need the JAR file, not even the JAD.
Upon the first start, it'll ask you premission for accessing the Net. What did you answer?

I used this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1494844&postcount=2
It's working great on my BA.
It's NOT a .cab file. but an .exe
Run it on your PC. It will install messenger, and Windows Live on your BA.

Java application to run on my Streak

Hi,
Before Streak I was using a java application on my Nokia phone which gave information about the City I live (traffic, etc...)
Now I want to use the same application but I can't download it on to my Streak.
The site to download the application checks the browser UI string and does not allow downloading because Android is not supported.
How can I download this application and run ?
Thanks.
