I'm trying to save some large games to the sd card, while installing from the pc I get an option to store in either memory or sd location, however when I select sd it says 'unvailable' even though I have no problems accessing the sd card or saving apps there. would ould the problem be?
if it helps I'm trying to save spb airislands to the sd location.

Hi all,
I've looked everywhere for a solution to the following, but can't seem to find anything about it:
After flashing 5.2.19199 UC RTM, my camera saves corrupt jpgs to the SD card (Sandisk 8Gb) that I can't open. If I change the save location to main memory, the files are fine. Also, voice recording with notes is set to save to the SD card, but after recording, it freezes for awhile, and eventually dumps the recording to main memory. Also related, Opera and PIE downloads are set to save to SD, but they either won't save, or are corrupt when I access them.
I have formatted the card and it works fine in the PC USB reader. The apps I have saved to the SD will run, but there is an issue with saving new files to the card. Cab files WILL install to the SD.
Is there a setting or program I need to run/fix/add??
Thanks, this forum is an awesome resource!!
Everytime I install new program to HD2 it asks me if I want to install into main memory or SD card. My PC windows experience says that it is advisable to install programs to main drive (C: usually). Does the same logic apply to WM devices? Or is it safe to install apps into SD card (which would leave more space on actual device)
It's really up to you where you install them. The only things to bear in mind are that the internal storage cannot be expanded, and you can remove the storage card.
The way I do this is to install anything that I think I'll really want to always have at hand on the device (essential apps like coreplayer, nitrogen etc..) That way, if I remove the storage card then my device still has my most favoured apps on it. Anything that I'm not too fussed about (games in my case) goes on the storage card.
It's your call completely, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with installing things on the storage card. In fact, I'd recommend doing it when you're installing non-essential apps so that you save internal storage for things that you don't have a choice with (MarketPlace apps, for example, or tweaks and mods).
Hope this helps mate.
ok, thanks for detailed reply. I will try to install apps to SD card, if that option becomes available during installation process. I am not switching SD cards, so it should be fine then.
one more question that is related to the first one... If I install application on SD card, then if I take the memory card out, put new ROM into phone and insert SD card back. Will applications run as before installing new ROM? Are all program files saved to SD card when installing or does it do some registry entries or save some files onto maine phone memory???
In my old JasJam I found that programs loaded faster when stored on the device storage as opposed to the SD card.
Is this the same on the HD2?
If you upgrade ROM then you will need to do a backup first then restore afterwards otherwise you will lose everything including the links to the programs on the SD Card (although the programs will still be there).
I use SPB backup to do this. It works well. I used it yesterday after I upgraded my O2 V1.43 ROM to HTC 1.66. The restore worked great
All Micro D cards aren't the same I paid a bit more and got a Class 6(fastest) 16GB card. Class 2 is the slowest.
I hope this helps?
Things to remember
SD card usage eats battery.
SD card usage is slower than phone mem.
SD card usage can cause conflicts and freezes.
SD card usage creates app associations that really should not be carried over to new ROM flashes.
Installation to phone mem gives smoother and more stable operation of phone.
You have plenty of on phone storage space so why not use it?
Links to apps gone
i have loads of applications on my SD card for my HD2 but when i reset it i lost all the links to them so now the only way to get to them is to go to the file explorer but i dont have any icons anywhere else on my phone, any suggestions?
Either reinstall the apps, or simply browse to the executables, copy, and paste as shortcut in \windows\start menu.
I am running a HTC Touch HD with a 8gb microSD memory card, i was watching a movie on it when it suddenly froze. Done a soft reset and found that the storage card to be empty and all programs which were installed to the mem card are also gone. However Start > Settings > Memory > Storage Card, shows 7.2gb used 700free meaning that the data is still there but the phone will not read it for some reason. I have been doing some research and have found that a lot of people have had the same problem but have not as yet posted a solution
All threads i found on this topic are from 2008-earlier and i was wondering if anybody has found a fix for this yet or whether i'll have to format the storage card completely as the computer on which i made the back-up for the card was also formatted last week in which case ill have to download all the data and programs again.
Thanks in advance
I have a similar issue, I had my Touch HD connected to the PC using the 'Disk Drive' option and accessing some files on the SD card whilst TomTom was running. I unplugged my device and TomTom complained about missing files then the app would not start again, I could not see the SD card after this on the device or my PC SD card slot so I restarted the PC and the phone.
I could then see the files on my SD card, and I could see the files on my device but it is now appearing as Storage Card 2, I had to reinstall my apps to this new location to get them working as I could not get the SD card to show as Storage Card, and there is already a Storage Card showing as well as Storage Card 2.
Weird!!!
I have moved Apps from internal memory to my stock 8gb SD card that came with my phone using ApptoSD. I now upgraded to a 16gb SD card and have copied every folder/file on this 8gb card to my deskto computer and then moved onto the 16gb SD card. My problem is that the programs appear on the Manage Applications in the HTC EVO setup, however none of the applications open from my shortcuts nor appear in the All Apps menu button. What am I doing wrong? Is there anyway to copy from one SD card to the other and get the applications to work?
I might have either moved all the apps to phone memory or used titanium back up to back them up and also to move them. Now however the symlinks are going to oblivion. So use root explorer go to /mnt/asec and long tap each app to re-install.
You could explore app2sd application from market, to see what it finds, as it rebuilds it's list each time it starts.
This started happening after I've installed a new bigger SD card. I've copied all contents from the old SD card to the new one.
But now I have problems with USB connection as mass storage. It usually resets and after restart, there are many applications missing (blank shortcuts and apps are not in the launcher).
What is going on??
Using your phone as Mass Storage would require the SD Card to be unmounted,if by any chance you reboot in the process, your phone might not automatically mount the SD Card, and therefore you will not be able to access the apps on the card.
You may try to mount the SD card manually, still, that won't fix the icon problem instantly, you might wait or refresh a bit.
But I haven't saved any of those apps on the SD card (if it isn't done automatically somehow).
