Files Types and Extensions - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I can rename a file, that's easy, but when downloading cab's (or doc's) from this site (by Opera) it tries to rename them to download with an extension of .php which is not much use. Even if I rename it to (example) "Registry Wizard.cab" it still maintains the php ending making it not much use.
As-is I cant seem to find the button to disable the "Hide file extensions for known file types" which is pretty much the first thing I go after when I reinstall my desktop pc. Any idea how to fix that?
Also, is there any way to add extra file extensions? For example, is there any way for it to recognise .php as a .txt file without having to do the activesync check-in/check-out malarky?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think gsfinder can edit extensions' settings.

Winampaq skins

Does anyone use Winampaq? If so, have you managed to use any of the Winamp 2.x skins?
I'm having trouble trying to use them. Basically, I put the relevant skin (.wsz) file in a folder, but when I use the browse function on Winampaq, the list only shows the folders and not what is contained within each folder
Any ideas?
Many thanx
change the wsz extention to zip and unzip the files to a dir
and point to that dir using winampaq
and they all work at least all the skins i've tried
Thanks Rudegar, but you must excuse my ignorance. I have zipped the wsz file, but I can't extract it directly to my XDA2. I have to extract it to my desktop first, before syncing the file to the XDA2. But once extracted to the desktop, it is a .wsz again so zipping it hasn't made any difference.
Could you explain to me step by step how you do it, please?
I'm using "StuffIt" to zip the file, but I guess the results would be the same as if using "WinZip".
Once again, please excuse the ignorance, but I really want to change the skin as the default one isn't very pleasing to the eye!
Many thanks
you have to CHANGE the extention of the file
before
skinname.WSZ
after
skinname.zip
you have to edit the file name not zip the file
wsz is just a zipped file to begin with
after you change the extention you can just copy out the stuff from inside it
i use total commander both on my pc and on my xda because it makes it easy to work with zip files and other things, it sees zip files like dir's and you can copy stuff from inside them without any problems
Many thanks for your help, Rudegar. I will give it a shot...

Big storage rom upgrade

I have just installed this on I-jam. Thank you for the rom. I now seem to be missing the program which allowed me to assign photos and backgrounds to contacts. Is there any way of getting this back or can you recommend another program I can use in its place?
The advantage of the Big Storage hack is that the storage area is now accessible for other purposes and that you can select which softare to install from the Extended ROM. You'll find various Extended ROM versions in the ftp server. The cab file that you are looking for is called Caller ID.
I am trying to install the phone dialler software but is comes up with iacaller.dll in use, how do i install it, any help appreciated..
phonepad
can anyone tell me how to uninstall this please
in order to remove the iacaller.dll from use, try removing it from your \windows\startup folder, then soft-reset. Then you should be able to run the cab file. However there will be several other *.dll that need to be replaced but are read-only. What you have to do is manually rename those to something else (I just put a OLD_ in front of the name). Do this either through the the activesync explorer or you can select to "view all files" from your pocket pc file explorer. I don't remember the ones that need to be renamed, I had a list but who knows where it is now... So you'll have to rename them one by one as the device prompts you. so for example it'll say name.dll is in use cannot copy - remember the name of the file, exit the installer (or most likely the installer will exit itself) then go into the \windows folder, locate the file, rename it to OLD_XXX.dll then run the cab again. Repeat as necessary. Good luck.

Convert to dll files?

Does anyone know how I can convert png or ico files to dll files so that it can be used with SK Shortcut Manager or PocketTweak to create shortcut icons?
I have been searching online for a method for a long time and it appears that the only way to do so is by using Visual FoxPro. However, I don't have this program and there isn't a trial version i can download. (I don't want to spend money buying a program just to make a few dll files for my shortcuts)
I have also tried some other freewares and trial softwares online but none of them are successful.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Attached here are the 3 icons i would like to turn into dll files. If anyone know where to get them as dll files, that would be great too.
Loook for ResHacher, it is free!

Nevermind zip file attached. enjoy
Still not working...
i downloaded the program and used the IconDLL.dll file i got from PHM Tools then i changed the icons inside to the one i want. However, I still can't get it to work despit doing that.
What I did after getting the new .dll file with my icon in is use the shortcut creator program I found here. I tried to read other .dll files and i could see the icon but as soon as I use my own .dll file I made (which I put in the /Windows), it crashes the program. I then tried another program, the Strat Menu programs manager and I still could not read my icon.
I even went through all the post in this forum about shortcuts and tried some of the tricks there. I downloaded Microangelo Librarian and attempted to use IconDLL.dll by adding in my own icons (as vijay suggested in an earlier post), however, according to the advice he gave, that should be it and it should've been easy. This wasn't the case because I couldn't save the file as a .dll file since it said that the file is a read only file or is locked. I then tried save as but that only save it as a lib file.
I have been at this for a whole day now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
** oh and I even tried using SK Shortcut Manager and I still couldn't read the .dll file I made :..(
Hi teresa611
I also use Microangelo Librarian.
what we have to do is just open the program.
1. Drag any icons into blank librarian.
2. Save as *.icl
3. Just rename those *.icl to be *.dll
4. Copy to PPC
5. Enjoy
Hope this help
tried and failed
even tho i changed the name to .dll, when i dragged it into my pda, it's still a librarian file and i was unable to read it. perhaps, i'm doing something wrong if it works for other people.
i'm starting to feel this is more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for the advice tho. If anyone else has any other ideas, please let me know.

For me, I have to put .dll into \Windows; otherwise, it is not work.
In addition, you may try using icon_viewer utility to view those dll in order to ensure it is a work dll.
The attach is icon_viewer. Copy to PPC and run.
Thanks. I'll try it later when I get off work. I really hope it works, cause I'm running out of forums to search
problem solved!!
just to refresh this thread and to give others some info if they're stuck with what I was stuck with. I finallt managed to create .dll files and use them in my pda as shorcut icons.
Instead of using Michelangelo Libarian which I am still confused about, I found this great freeware called "BeCyIconGrabber". It allows you to extract icons from .dll and .exe files and you can also load multiple icons there as save it as .dll.
Thanks again to everyone who tried to help

HELP with FingerSuite

I am currently using FingerSuite on my HTC Touch. There are two parts to the suite, one is for "menus" and the other for "pop-ups". To prevent running the program each time I had to soft reset my phone I copied the .exe file for the 'MsgBox' program (which provides a more finger friendly interface for errors that give pop-ups) and placed this in \Windows\StartUp. However, by placing the .exe file in the 'StartUp' folder the program doesn't seem to run. When a pop-up should appear (eg. for confirmation of deleting a file; Yes or No) the screen simply freezes. This, I understand, is because I should have placed the .lnk file in the 'StartUp' folder instead as it requires other files in the same folder which are missing in 'StartUp'. Unfortunately I am unaware of a way to disable FingerSuite once it is running and because of this I am unable to delete the file I have placed in the StartUp folder.
Sorry for the poor description of my problem.
Is there any way in which I can remove this file I have placed in the 'StartUp' folder? I don't want to have to hard reset my device but if there is no other way then I suppose I will have to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Alex
Nevermind, I managed to delete the file once I ran my device in Safe Mode.

Possible to change program assignments?

In my Dopod, when I click on a TXT file in my File Explorer, it always opens in MS Pocket Word. Then I have to be careful to select the correct file save as text files.
I installed some alternative NotePad programs but there appears to be no way to change the file extension type assignments to start up the correct program instead?
I have googled quite a bit but came up empty!
Anybody solved this problem?
Thanks!
AFAIK, Advanced Config has such an option to change file associations.
I had Advanced Config 3.2 already but did not know it had file association.
Found it under More Settings!
Unfortunately, when I tried to re-assign the program, it bombed when I was navigating the tree view.
Eventually, had to copy the application to \Program Files\ and select it from there!
After that, it seems to accept the settings.
Unfortunately, after the soft reset, the extension is still pointed to same application as before!
Latest update!
Something very funny is going on.
Advanced Config shows that the file association has been changed.
TXT file is now:
\Program Files\PocketTextEditor.exe "%1"
However, when I click a txt file in File Explorer, it still opens with Pocket Word!
Did I do something wrong?
Thanks!
