A CAB-file can only run on your device...You have to copy/paste it into your device as is ( my documents or so ) find it using your file-explorer, tap it, and it will install... hope this helps...
BTW it is not a zip-file. though it looks as if it is on your PC, just FYI...
I have tried tihs and this message i am getting " there is no application associated with (file name). Run the application first, then open this file from within the application"

Ohh I know that one, that's Vijay's nice little thingy, well you want them all I assume, so be sure to empty your browser cache, then download this one... http://www.vijay555.com/vj/ToggleToday/VJToggleStuff.cab
Then sync with your device....copy and paste the file as is into your device, in "my documents", disconnect your device from sync, then use your file-explorer ( the default one ) to find the cab file, tap it, and it installs...have just checked it, it works just fine...

Are you absolutely sure that you copy this file as it is to your device ? and you have not made an attachment to cab. extentions on your desktop, so that it renames the file in transfer ? The only time you will need to click the file, is when it is in your mini, "my documents" folder, not before...!
If you are sure about the above, I mean sure..!!! Then maybe it's time for you to do something serious about your OS, 'cause then you have a problem..
...use cab installer and associate files with it!
...then try to disable the setting and see if system setting is restored
Its now fine, i was doing mistake ....Actually i was unzip the file first then i transfered the file, you mentioned AS IT IS helped me alot.
I really appriciate your help...and THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!!
With this small tools, you can specify the folder you want the CAB to be installed to.
Just copy it to you PPC,and run it.You can associate this tools with CAB file so that next time you click a cab on your PPC,the cabinst will take over the rest work in your will.
Thanks alot mate, its really helpful !

Guys, if you're using ToggleToday, it works fine on WM2003 in Portrait at QVGA.
I'm currently working on the "proper" version which is WM5 and VGA and landscape friendly as well... stay tuned.

BACKING UP CONTACTS

Is there any better way to backup contacts list rather then Microsoft Outlook?
I've seen a lot of different softwares around.
I just want some advice of an application that runs ok on 9100 and keeps my contacts safe.
By the way, the worst thing about using windows is that you KNOW that some day it will crash and you will have to format the device. It's dismissable.
I agree with you. I would love something that was able to export contacts to an XML file (and sms to a series of text files) just so I didn't have to pretty much relie on having access to a windows box.
Enjoy!!........... http://www.jeyo.com/companion.asp
As has been mentioned before, in the root directory of My Device there is a file named pim.vol. With Calendar/Contacts/Tasks not running copy this file to another location such as your storage card (don't move it!). Voila! There's your backup. No muss, no fuss.
Good luck!

I was wondering how to back up my contacts too. Thanks for the info!
You're welcome, I was just passing on what I also learned here.
Another thing I do is to use outlook to save an exported copy of my contacts as a .pst file on my PC. I don't sync my pda with my PC but I do periodically allow a sync to take place during which I set up the connection to "replace what is on the PC with what is on the device". After doing so I export the contacts to the pst file, somewhere on my PC and then delete all contacts in Outlook (it's not my primary email app). By deleting them I don't have to worry about hackers getting into them, and I'm then prepared for the next time I want to sync them for the purpose of backing them up.
Then I save copies of both the pim.vol and .pst files to a storage card that I keep locked up.
So i just need to save the pim.vol . And if something happens and i need to format my device i only need to put the replace pim.vol and all my contacts tasks and calendar will be restored, its correct
thanks
i use Shozu ( www.shozu.com ) lets me upload my photos right to Flickr, and as a bonus backs up my contacts. woo hoo
shozu looks good, however the wizard doesn appear in the list of compatible phones? What is the way round this?
How do you use the PIM file as a backup? I recently hard reset and then tried to copy the PIM file from my storage card back into the memory of the 8125 and I kept getting an error message that stated that either the file was in use or memory was not sufficient.
any thoughts?
u can use this contacts backup tool from buzzdev.net

Networking and Shared Files

From PC to PC, you can network a shared folder. How can I share a folder on my PPC and network it so either my mac or pc can grab files without having to use ActiveSync or the ridiculous The Missing Sync for mac.
use resco explorer
you can use resco explorer to set up a network share. then copy any files from your PPC to your network share location. Hope this works.

I'll give this a try, thanks.
And, without that, for instance, with File Explorer not possible? I can 'open path' ?
I made it work
I made it kinda work. I am sure there is something wrong, but what I did actually worked. There may be enough correct info here to help:
#1 - I installed a cmd shell
#2 - using the 'net use' command:
net use \\<machine name>\<export name> <password> /user:<domain>\<user name>
#3 now authentication window comes up, and I type in my password.
#4 now I have remote access:
copy \\<machine name>\<export name>\<file name>
When I installed the "total commander" application, I noticed there is a directory now called //network, with a sub directory called <password> ( my actual password ). Inside the password directory are all the remote files. I guess "net use" works a bit differently on this platform than I expect. So I do not know what is going on, but I do have file sharing across SMB..... ;-)

Nope u can create shortcuts for other icons in the Other tab...yet there is one way...search the DEV/HACK area for a thread .INK Shortcuts or some thing like that.
btw which shortcut do u want
Searching for the Wifi network discovery, looked in the windows folder does not give the right links.
I'll put out a search for .ink.
Tnx
here u go....its complicated alittle..but if u want to make a shortcut of any file (those that are in that thread)..just copy the location from the post and paste it on ur pc(in a new text file)...and save them as .lnk..now copy them to ur pc and check them out

My method of creating Security Certificate cabs

Not sure if this has been discussed earlier but I've been searching for quite a while for the exact working procedure so I can have my cert installable through UC. I support many clients with Exchange 2003 and PDA's so this works really nice for me, of course YMMV
First you need Network 2.0 installed on your workstation, the x86 version alavaible here
Then, referring to Scott Yost's contribution on MSDB Blogs, SSLChainSaver v2 released download & install Windows Mobile SSLChainSaver
This will create a directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft SSL ChainSaver by default with no program group. I suggest installing to a easier to find folder as this will be run via a Command Prompt, I use D:\SSL myself.
Then I run a Command Prompt and change my Drive and Directory to that folder. (I'm sure that if you need this knowledge you already know how to navigate in a Dos windows)
There I type S and a tab (which, on an XP or Vista computer will autocomplete SSLChainSaver.exe. Type a space then the FQN of the server containing the cert, for instance, mail.mycompany.com. This will create a folder named mail.mycompany.com containing the cert, which we don't need. It will also create 2 files, mail.mycompany.com.wm5.xml and mail.mycompany.com.wm6.xml. Al my device are WM6.1 so I need the second one.
Rename the second file to _setup.xml.
The type makecab /d compress=off _setup.xml email.cab (or whatever you want to name the cab)
Copy the cab to your SC and input the necessary line into your SDConfig.txt if you use UC or simply run through File Explorer.
This, in addition to creating cabs to automatically Auto-provisioning Exchange mail via UC saves me a LOT of time.
Enjoy and I hope that somebody finds this useful
Excellent work! I have been looking for a good way to achieve this via UC and this works perfectly.
Kevan
So you re doing all this just to get _setup.xml made for you ? Why not see whats in it and create it yourself ?

OK, see what's in mine and create one then...
The whole idea is to create a cab, not an xml file... at least for me that is.
Great work! I've been looking for that - didn't know you could do this
Here's a script - just add it to your SSL Chainserver folder (default: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SSL ChainSaver) and run it - it will ask you for your web/mail-server and create the cab automatically...
Code:
@echo off
set mailserver=mail.mycompany.com
set /P mailserver=Please enter your mailserver (%mailserver%) + [ENTER]:
SSLChainSaver.exe %mailserver%
copy %mailserver%.wm6.xml _setup.xml
makecab /d compress=off _setup.xml %mailserver%.cab
echo Done! Copy %mailserver%.cab to your provisioning folder and add it to your UC (SDConfig.txt) or SASHIMI script :)

This is great, it's exactly what I needed. I just have one question. Why make a CAB file? Don't UC and Sashimi both support provisioning XML? It seems like you should be able to save a step. And taking that one step further, couldn't you put both the certificate and the Exchange provisioning in the same XML file?

For me, it's because I rarely let the UC start as when I'm evaluating a new ROM I need it to be the way the chef made it and not as it is with my modifications. Much easier for me to just run the cab files.

Hi Marty,
The FQDN is the Fully Qualified Domain Name of your machine. So whatever you type into the Address Bar of the Internet Explorer to access the machine would be the FQDN. If your Exchange Server is called "server1" it's usually "server1.domainname.com" or sometimes your Domain Admin adds "mail.domainname.com" or "exchange.domainname.com which points to the server1 machine...

Nika.
