Im using the 8125. Rom 2.xx
If i use the slide out keyboard, most of all the buttons are messed up.
if i press "i" it types ".i"
if i press "c" it types "ce"
if i press "g" it types "lg"
I basically cannot use the slide out keyboard at all. This was happening even when i was using the older ROM version.
I tried to use the keyboard remapper program AEKMap, that didnt work.
The SIP keyboard with the stylus works fine. I checked all registry entries and they all show up as US locale. The only thing i can think of is I use a magnetic phone holder, does anyone think that a magnet will screw up the keyboard ????? Any other suggestions???
sounds like that is a hardware malfunction, not software.
If you're under warranty, take it back.
If not, you're going to have to take it apart and see if you can find a loose ribbon cable some where.
Yeah, i figured its probably a hardware issue. I was just hoping someone had this problem before and fixed it without opening up or returning it.

Hi guys, hoping someone can give me a hand with this.
Nothing has happened in terms of traumatic force that would damage the phone.
ie: drop, get wet etc.
It has started to open any of the programs i attach to the top 2 soft keys, and the key pad and phone buttons no longer work. I can x out the programs as they open but they rapidly open again.
It will also have functioning moments where they keys work and everything is fine
wtf?
P.s. i tried reinstalling the ROM update from the HTC site and it had no effect.
Just to be clear, the programs assigned to the top two buttons (mail and internet) open on their own? If so, does this happen as soon as you turn the device on?
Hi there,
Sorry its hard to be exactly clear when I don't know what the problem is.
When I turn on the device those programs do open automatically. I had assigned the media player to one, and it would open automatically. Now that its been reset to the HTC site upgrade the outlook program opens automatically as well as internet explorer, over one another again and again.
I have now set no program to those buttons but the device is still not very functional.
The enter key in the center of the directional pad now either drops down the start menu or opens the screen calibration.
In fact all the data inputs are problematic.
Thanks for any help. These things cost too much to go over my balcony but every man has his limits.
Also we have the exact same machine, minus your ext.ROM and 260mhz.

the wizard is designed to open the screen calibration if you hold both the 'action' and 'mail' keys at the same time. with this in mind, it sounds like it thinks the 'mail' button is being constantly pressed. i don't know why this would be the case, but i would check; for dirt/dust build up under the buttons; broken buttons; and no odd software installed to startup folder?
Will do.
Thanks for the help.

That's my take on it as well. Both of the buttons appear to be depressed all the time. The left and right buttons are on one board called the rigid flex board. In my troubleshooting experience (F-16 fighters) I’ve seen that it’s highly unlikely both buttons would go mechanically bad at the same time, so I believe it may be a bad board or a loose connection between the rigid flex board and the main board. If your device is still under warrantee then you may have to send it back for work. If it’s not under warrantee and you feel comfortable with disassembling your wizard (Google search HTC wizard service manual for step-by-step directions) you may want to look at the connection between the rigid flex board and the main board. You may also be able to get a replacement rigid flex board from a few people on this site that have spare parts.
Just my thoughts,
Thanks guys I appreciate the help. I guess I'll try and take it apart. I don't think it'll be a very cost effective solution to ship it to HTC for repairs, probably will end costing the same as replacing it.
Problem :hardware keyboard down-right key (o) behaves as Commmanager button.
Firstly sorry if this has been asked/reported before but i didn't know the name of the hard keyboard button name to do a search.
The last few days I have this kind of strange problem:
The bottom left key in my Wizards hardware keyboard (circle button : O ) has this behaviour :
1. It does what is normal to do (like pressing shift)
2. Immidiatelly it behaves like the Comm Manager button (the upper right hardware key of the wizard).
The effect is that whenever I try to put a symbol (when I use the hard keyboard) I open the app that the Comm manger key is assinged to.
I have the WM5 faria ROM & AEKeyboard. I also don't think that smartkey or AEKeyboard are responsible for this.
I fear that this might be a hardware problem & also I don't want to do a Hard reset without a good reason..
Just posted here to see if someone can give me a clue.
Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem to yours, i have windows mobile 6 on my 8125/wizard, and for the longest time(since i bought it on ebay for its working parts), none of the hardware buttons did what they were supposed to(except the power button). End call button would make the pda open up the dialer and give a message in a notification bubble that said "waiting" followed by a sound and "that feature is not supported". The talk(green answer key) NEVER answered the phone, it opened a totally random program installed somewhere on the phone, whether it was internet explorer, the comm manager, outlook, calendar or contacts. So i relied on using the touchscreen buttons.
None of these problems went away until i got fed up with the thing and left it and its battery un-inserted for a week while i used my trusty unlocked nokia 6010 which i still love because it is phone and a very good one!
I put my battery back in my 8125, fired her up and after charging her i put my sim card back in, and went to answer a call using the "talk" button without even realizing it actually did what it was supposed to do. I hung up using the end call hardware button, then used the talk button to call the person i was talking to earlier! It was like it was never misbehaving at all!! Crazy devices...
I have had my 8125 for quite some time now and it has gone thru alot. My problem is that the call/answer key/button does not work as well as the call end button. Does anyone know of any apps that i could use as a sub. phone pad? I set my voice record button as my phone button but the is no talk icon in that phone pad. Any ideas would be great, thanks.
Can I get clarification please?
Your touch screen phone pad is not working...or your hardware button are not working?
If it's the former, it may be corrupted like mine was, just install a new pad (you can get some nice ones from zombienexxus)...at least doing that worked for me. The other thing you can try is to re-flash your rom. If it is the buttons on the device, I am not sure how to help you, other than asking if you are at all under warranty or have insurance on the device with which you can use to swap it out.
Sorry couldn't help more. Best of luck.
the hardware :-(
bad news for me. it is not the touchscreen, it is the actual psysical buttons on the phone. but in most new roms the dial pad only has certain buttons and lacks others. i just need a basic pad with the ability to hit the touch version of the call button, due to my physical button not working.
I'll give it another go ahead to find an alterative pad. thanks for the remomendation though.
Hello, I don't mean by this title that some key are missing on my uni, I just mean that sometime, when pushin a, n, r and some other keys, it doesn't write anything, I have to push the key a bit more: Is everybody having this problem or my qtek is just being too old ? And in anyway, since it's begining to be really annoying, what's the best I can do, buy a bluetooth keyboard or something else (if there is) ?
Ofc, the warranty is expired.
Thanks for you help.
try taking it appart and cleaning the contacts
go to instructables.com there is a guide on how to fix buttons on a remote control, I would think the same fix would work on the buttons if cleaning does not work.
It's not the same for the uni, the buttons are not easy to separate, well, in fact it's easy but I'm near sure it would break it. Anyway, it seem I found a working fix, I just pushed once each button a bit strongly and I seem to not have this problem anymore...
My Desire Z has been operational for 1.5yrs now and some problems started to show up with the soft keys (home, menu, back, search)
Every now and then, these 4 soft keys would stop working altogether (clicking them doesn't give any reaction or feedback) - for a while, and then work again like a charm.
With every time I unlock and use my phone, I get a 1-in-4 chance of having these keys working. They can even die off on me while using them.
Other than that, my entire touch screen functions are doing fine, including the bottom-most areas.
Please let me know what are the possible problems, whether it's software or hardware and how to fix it?
You're not alone man, I too am suffering from this problem. I was this close of having to send my phone to htc and have them fix it but after checking i realized my phone's no longer under warranty. It just started working again this morning and then everytime I'd reboot, the chances of having them working are second to none, it's like a hit or miss. I don't know if it's a glitch, fluke or the hardware might be waring off or something. Let me know if you find a solution, which im guessing you might have to replace the digitizer.
Unfortunately yeah, you might need to replace some hardware. In the meantime, or even instead of doing that, you could remap some of your hardware buttons to cover those functions..... I used the Button Remapper to make my quick keys do Home, Back and Menu... it works great on the G2. Not as good as having your soft keys working again perhaps, but it's an idea. Also, it does require root access.
Here is the Button Remapper app thread:

I was considering ordering and replacing digitizer myself, but it's too difficult for me. Guess this oughta be a hardware problem.
I've found a solution to work around it, using SoftKeys app (requires root). It will open up a floating soft keys (home, back etc) to substitute the main ones.
If there's a way to map a trackpad with the "home" function, that'd be best. Can Button Remapper do that, or any other app?
