I'm too stupid to figure out from the posts whether Cingular or T-Mobile is better in general for a Universal application. So...anyone out there in the Vegas area that can tell me which one works better specifically in the valley?
Thanks!

I dunno if any of you frequent the AT&T forums, but their online tech guys have said that AT&T is working on a WM2003 upgrade for their XDA. (sx56)
Of course he didn't give any timetable, but he did say they are working on it. I hope it doesn't take too much longer. Also he didn't mention if it would be a free upgrade or not.
Bummer we can't get out hands on a beta since we have Tmobile's beta.
I could be wrong but you are probably ref: posts by Lazarus. He is very active in forums and has been some for sometime back with ericsson devices. He then got the AT&T gig.
You already have the beta for AT&T it is ROM 4.xx.11 not 4.xx.16. You will notice in earlier posts that the BIN files were named VS_xxxx and AWS_xxx
VS stands for VoiceStream the former US name for T-Mobile before the German Acq.
AWS stands for AT&T Wireless Service.
So you have it 8) and make sure to post your good & bad exp with it so to help these developers tweak the ROMs...if they are watching this forum
Cheers!
Actually no, the VS and AWS did not mean Voice Stream and AT&T. They meant one has the Radio stack included and one did not. They were still both TMobile ROMS.
And no I do mot mean Lazarus, I was referring to people who work for AT&T that work their forums.
So in essence, no there is no AT&T Beto out right now.
wats up people, i have an MDA III and i have WM5 on it, but for a christmas gift my girl is getting me the universal (MDA PRO). From all i have read, i love the device, don't know if i can part with my MDAIII. But my question is that, i read that the PRO has GSM and WCDMA, i live in america, does this mean my new PRO will work with my sprint (CDMA technology) and my T-mobile (GSM) at the same time? or is it strictly GSM? I would be nice if i could just switch when i want to. Thanks for your info and if you have tips for me or advice to get it or not. Thanks again.
I didn't think the US had a 3G service?
@obiesoft, I suggest you post your query at the Pocket PC forum at www.howardforums.com as the issue of which network/frequency/etc the Universal works with in the USA has been covered in a lot detail (I think the best option for the US Cingular)
I'm being sent off to the UK for 3 months for work and wanted to ask the wise folks around here what are my options for using my XV6800 over there.
Are there any carriers over there that support CDMA and will activate my phone for the short time?
If I just stick with VZW, can I roam over there? How would data access work? GPS? If nothing else, I'd love to be able to use my hand-held GPS to help find my way around London.
Is there a FAQ/wiki anywhere with this info?
If it makes a difference, I'm running w/ DCD 3.2.6 and 3.42.5 Radio
TIA for any info.
I dont think there is much if any cdma coverage in the UK, although I saw someone here from India I believe converted his 6800 to RUIM, which is kinda like a sim card for cdma. Not going to help if there is no service there though
Might be better off just getting a prepaid gsm phone whilst over there.
Hi everyone. I am sure there are serveral threads already on here in which people have asked about the new HD2 and AT&T's 3G signal. I searched around and found tidbits of information here and there so I thought I'd start a new thread and ask some questions that some of us AT&T users here in the states have.
I purchased a Touch HD (T8285) from an Australian seller not too long ago that was branded with the Telstra logo on it and it worked with my AT&T 3G signal here in the US near the Washington DC area.
My question to everyone is, is there a Telstra version of the HD2 currently available that will also work with the AT&T 3G signal? I see that there are a bunch of vendors in the UK that are selling this phone and I believe they won't work with our 3G signal here but is there an Australian one that will?
If so, where can someone buy or preorder it from? Any help is VERY MUCH appreciated.
That's the answers we're waiting for (the other being that whether it'll come to AT&T at all).

Well any news is good news. Unfortunately we don't have any at this time. I read somewhere that Telstra is currently testing this phone on their Next G network and is hoping to have it Q1 of 2010 which is the same timeframe as when T-Mobile is going to get it. I can't wait that long.
I Live in the US - Could not Wait Bought HD2 Euro Version - WOW
Couldn't wait until Q1-Q4 of 2010... The phone is unbelievably fast. So fast that being on a Slow EDGE connection speed and toggling to WiFi is almost not noticeable? Windows 6.5 runs really nice, there is absolutely no lag(AT ALL). A Running talley of open applications without lag is 40 apps. Big hitters like you-Tub, GoogleMaps, Acrobat, Opera, MorphGear, TCMP player, IE, TombRaider 3d. Digital Compass, Mobile Market Place, Remote Desktop, Bing... they just all run and the phone is super snappy? I have not had the phone crash or had to reset because of the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS freezing up, WHICH IS A WINMO FIRST...
Coming from the Resistive Touch HD screen, I think my only complaint so far is actually the Capacitive touch screen... It takes a second to get used to this. It's not bad but I find myself having to do things a few times...Dude typing with the onscreen keyboard is little hard because of the multiple touch input... Using your finger as apposed to a stylus is a big change...the HD2 doesn't have a stylus so, it's sort of a trial by fire...
Over all the device is crazy awesome, and It will definitely be the Gadget of the Year If it hits US 3G?

There is already a thread on this topic. I am waiting for the Telstra version myself. Interestingly, Telstra has a website. Yeah, who knew? Anyway, they are an amazing resource on which phones are available to Telstra subscribers.
Ok. I have I answer to where you can get the Austrailian HD2 that runs 3G on AT&T. Email [email protected] as they will have this week. Ask for Kevin and say Jeff gave me info and it's yours at the best price anywhere. For real!

This is already well known and this thread is months old. This is your first post... what made you dig up this old thread and bring it back from the dead?
Also, welcome to xda.
I have a month-old rooted black HTC Magic - Rogers (running it on Fido). It's running the RAv1.6.2 – Donut ROM. I'm looking to swap for a clean (not necessarily brand new but in a similar condition) My Touch 3G - TMobile. I'm looking to switch from Fido to Wind Mobile but the Rogers HTC Magic radio is not compatible with the 1700/2100 bands that Wind Mobile is on. My understanding is that T-Mobile phones work on those bands. Either reply or pm me for any offers.
u are in luck my man
I have an unlocked t-mobile my touch 3g but unfortunately I have at&t so no 3g I'm having the exact same problem but how would we set up the trade trade
Location, Location
I live in Toronto, not too sure if you do. If so we can definitely setup a meet and maybe a chance to check out the phone. Let me know.
RE: Location. Location
I live in DC closest I can think of. Is NY
RE: Location Location
I'm sorry my fault what I meant to say was that I live in DC but the closest place to meet for us would be New York City I'm guessing that would be halfway for both of us, thats if u dont mind traveling if u do I understand. but I'm willing to trade, phone is in very nice condition I just sold my iphone so I had it for about 2 weeks now and not having 3g is starting to get to me
Trying to figure this out
Sorry for the delayed response. I wouldn't be able to travel that far until a couple of weeks from now but would you know of a shipping service or something that we can utilize to facilitate a swap perhaps.
But How ?
Ive been doing a little research on a couple of sites that offer swapping services, but since this is the first time Ive tried to do something like this I'm not sure of the logistics. I dont want to end up with a Brick or a damaged phone or no phone at all and vise versa. Here are a list of the sites im talking about, SwapAce.com, [email protected], and Ive not taken a look at these yet, Swaptree.com UExchange.com BarterQuest.com I dont know if they offer shipping services or if they just help u find people to swap stuff. I would rather we both check the phones out in person to make sure we are both satisfied, you sound like a sincere person but if there is no other way im willing to ship the phone if u are. But how ?
