Does anyone know how to change the default language encoding option for messages. The only way I can change the encoding from Western European to Greek (Windows) is by starting a new message and going to message options each time I send a message in Greek. Is there some way that I can have Greek (Windows) as the default encoding? This was possible in pocket pc 2003.
Thanks, apap
I'd love to hear too

Every now and then a person I send an English SMS to complains they get rubbish characters instead of my SMS.
Both my XDA II and the other phone are English only so I don't know what the cause could be.
I have searched the forums but have not found an explanation of what the SMS Unicode option is. It is selected by default on my device.

i would not choose unicode unless you really need to be able to read chineese and other many latter languages
Thanks, I will deselect the Unicode option and see how things go.

When i receive SMS in Chinese, i can only see one first line of the received text (in TouchFlo Messages tab). I have to open official SMS software to see it in full.
There is no such problem when i receive SMS in English or in Russian. Only SMS in Chinese do not appear in full.
I have English version of WM 6.1
Is it possible to do anything with that?
Thank you.
I have found the solution on a Chinese forum:
You have to change the registry like below:
1. “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls\”下的SystemLCID的键值设为0x0804(2052)
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\DisableFarEastWordBreak
缺省值是"1" ,改成 "0"
How to view non-english character in message?
The standard message application on the phone always shows those special character, rather the actual sentence.
I tried a few sms apps, they show the same thing.
Are those non-English characters unicode? If so they should show up properly.
It should be.
It can display on mobile msn, but not on the default messaging program.
How about flash a ROM supported for that country?
I'm trying to figure out where can I set the default encoding for all new mail that I send out. Right now it always uses Western European. The only way to change it is to do it manually each time.
