My TMob is now a brick after latest ROM Update - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

After waiting ages for UK T Mob update to come out I tried it yesterday. Went through OK but got stuck at spash screen.
Tried everything on this forum but could not fix it. Wouldn't work even if flashed back to old ROM.
Sent it back to T Mob under Warrenty. Very unhappy. Let you know the outcome in 7- 10 days.
Bootloader was 1.01 for those interested.
Simon

That Sux big time. T-Mobile and the likes, really don't test very well before they release updates. I would rather install a cooked rom, atleast with the user community feedback we get some nice cooked Roms.
Goodluck, waiting to hear what happens....

Can someone help me, i have just got a new M1000 after my last one died and i thought i would upgrade the ROM before i start installing everything back onto it.
What is the latest ROM
thanks
Tim

Sorry, I happened to be in a bad mood
a not so official one :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13045&highlight=orange+upgrade
This may not be much help to you at present, but Orange are working on a new ROM, to address the repeated hard resets being experienced by some M1000's. They are into final testing so release should not be far away.
thanks, sorry for not searching.
NeilM - do you know what version(s) of all the roms Orange are releasing? Ie will it even be worth upgrading to it? I have the hacked rom installed and its ok for me now but its a company fon so official rom is best!

Rom Versions

Hi
I have an o2 xda mini s and i want to upgrade my rom to the latest one, however its not available on the xda site of o2. Can i install any rom or do i have to wait for them to brand it?
How do i upgrade and will it damage my device?
thanks
check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796
mini s rom updating
don't do it!!!!
wait for them to 'brand it'
I have the same machine and tried using the new K-Jam ROM from I-Mate and I've gone through some horrifying moments to get it back to normal!!!
i am also waiting for the O2 update, i desperately need push email and was about to take the plunge with the i-mate rom. what sort of problems did you have and how is it working now?
when I tried loading the Imate ROM it all went file until I got an error related to my trying to use IMate software on an O2 machine
It remained in three color mode (as it is when upgrading the ROM) until I turned it off and then it was dead!!! It would not do anything! No lights, no activesync, leds, nothing!
Fortunately I took out the battery and put in back in and was back to normal working order. I'm assuming that I was fortunate and the changes didn't yet save. I really don't know, but it scared the crap out of me!
Still I came across someone in a forum that has done it. I've emailed him to ask how. Supposedly it works but you end up having to remap buttons and such.
Regardless I've decided to hold off for two reasons...
1. I've still got warranty that is void if you change the ROM
2. a tech from O2 emailed me to say they are coming out with an upgrade... while no details about when

please help total thicko

please help im wishing to upgrade my offical rom from 1.43 to 1.48 but says my phone is not suitable??????im totally thick coming from nokia to windows,i did use search but was unable to find the answer.
thanks phil
Hello and welcome on board,
Can you post up the exact error message you are getting please?
Also read this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477 which you will fond useful and come back with any questions.
Incidentally you are not a fool for asking as long as you have searched first.
WB
hi mate thanks for the reply, when i go to the htc offical rom download,i'm asked to enter my serial number, which i do but says my device is not suitable and won't let me proceed any further??
cheers phil
got a major problem now ive tried to update to 1.48 but it crashed now i get a warning traingle on start up,and can go into bootloader screen and it says upgrade rom code error please try again???someone please help.i hope i havent bricked my phone
Is your HD2 branded? (bought it in combination with a contract?)
hi mate its on vodafone contract buts its not branded.
Hi again,
Have you tried to hard reset your phone to see if the old rom boots up again?
If it does not then you might want to reflash your existing rom onto your phone using the SD card method (look at the threads at the top of the Rom Development page to find what you are looking for).
If it works and you are still keen to upgrade the rom you need to read the threads on using either the Goldcard or HardSPL methods to upgrade.
Come back and let us know how you got on.
WB
hi mate i was having the exact same probs as the chap in the hd2 bricked thread, same messages etc and stopping at 9% i took there advice and reflashed the hpsl again which has worked a treat,i'm now a little dubious bout trying to upgrade as i don't fancy bricking it.
ive emailed htc to see why i cant upgrade from 1.43 to 1.48 seems odd it says my phone isnt suitable.
p.s thanks for the help mate much appreciated
OK, wait until you hear back from them. However if you are now up and running and have installed HardSPL, I think you will find that flashing a new radio on its own might help solve your problems.
I think if you look at the thread you were referring to (this one...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618084), IIRC, MysticGenius runs through a procedure for doing this that helped him sort out a similar problem.
Good luck with it.
WB
PS: Lesson learned here though is to read exhaustively on the topics on here BEFORE jumping in as fixing problems later can be both time consuming, if you are lucky, and a pain in the rear. As for that horrible sick feeling you get when you think you have bricked £500 worth of phone....wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy!

No HD2 Rom Upgrade With T-mobile

Hi,
I have just bought a HTC HD2 from T-mobile to realise I can't upgrade the ROM through the official HTC website.
I would like to know from Virgin Costumers whether they have tried to upgrade the ROM of their HTC HD2 through the Official HTC website and whether it worked.
I am asking this because I am still on the trial period and also because of warranty issues if I try to upgrade trough another route apart from the T-mobile's...
So, the question is...
Have you got a HTC HD2 from virgin? Have you upgrade the ROM through the HTC website?
If it's vendor locked you'll need to flash HSPL to install a stock or custom ROM...see this thread for details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
If I do install another ROM they say I loose the warranty...
As I still am in the trial period I could just return the mobile. But for this I need to know whether the HTC HD2 from virging is also branded or not... So I can go and get one from them and do the upgrades myself through HTC website... Withought loosing any warranty.
You can revert back to the original SPL/ROM if you need to return it for any reason...
As for the Virgin HD2, only way is putting the S/N into the ROM download page on HTCs support site and see if it allows a download. If not, it's locked
There's at least a dozen of threads about it. Don't be lazy and use search!
You won't loose the warranty, you can flash the phone back to it's original state in case you need to send it back for repairs.
You can download the original T-Mobile ROM from in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 so you can always go back if you need warranty work! I was reluctant to flash, but I did it from the original T-Mobile ROM and it has transfromed my HD2... I'm using MIRI 6.5 ROM and it is awesome, fast, stable, more RAM (with the right radio) and best of all, Youtube... GO ahead and do it. You think the HD2 is good now, wait until you unleash some of it's real potential....
Yes, that is why I am asking if there is someone who is a virgin costumer to help me with this...
I need to know if they have tried and what the outcome was.
About the warranty... The problem is that if I upgrade to another ROM and the mobile has a hardware fault that doesn't allow me to downgrade to the original ROM I suppose I would loose the warranty. This is a risk I may not want to take...
I have been talking to the tmobile technical people a lot after I realised I couldn't upgrade to a new ROM via HTC... Very annoying to know it is not possible whatsoever.
and as proof, I flashed mine back to the original ROM earlier this week. Search the ROM forum for posts by a member called 'football' who posted links to the TMo UK ROMs.
The flash back to the original ROM worked just fine, BUT it's a rubbish ROM so I'm back on 1.66
lol @ everyone pushing for the HSPL option, , , , lets not forget you cant uninstal HSPL if, for instance, the sd card reader has failed, , how would you get that fixed on warranty??
I'm not knocking it, HSPL is the first thing i did, just pointing out that restoring the warranty isn't foolproof.
in this post here a virgin user claims the phone is unlocked to the HTC website.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632892
I didn't want to cause such turmoil...
Just want to know, from a Virgin customer, if they have managed to install the ROM update through the HTC website... if when they add their mobile serial number they are given the download option or they are barred with this message: "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
Thanks guys for the help
My son is on Virgin and his is unlocked out of the box I'am on T-Mobile (locked ) ) I am still deciding whether to update to one of the new roms on xda del. or hang out for an official rom from T-Mobile. Which I believe will be released soon with a big?????.

I had a flash fail this week. When I started the phone it booted to a black screen with some sort of warning triangle. Somehow HSPL had been removed in the botched flash and the SPL was back to 1.42.000, so putting a LEOIMG.nbh on my SD card just resulted in a 'Not Allowed' message being displayed.
However, I was still able to reflash the original TMo ROM from my PC via USB using the exe that you can find on the ROM forum. I would expect that this will only work with the exe for a ROM issued by your network though, so make sure you have that saved before you flash anything.

No doubt you flashed an official rom from the sd card, that is the only way HSPL can be removed. I really really advise people against using sd card for anything except your phones original rom. So easy to make an error.
Virgin UK HD2 is unlocked
I am a Virgin UK customer and my HD2 is indeed unlocked. When I first boot I had to select Virgin Mobile from a long list that included all the major carriers. I have no problems in updating ROMS. Their customer support is without doubt the best I have ever experienced. I do not work for them. My brother is with T-Mobile, his phone is locked down with Crap software. I am SOOOO glad I am not with them. Just check their forums. They are still on ROM 1.43 from october... no YouTube... other stuff missing and buggy... Disgrace.
Original poster: if you want the phone on contract from T-Mobile but unbranded, you could buy it through some third-party mobile-phone store chain like Car Phone Warehouse or Mobile Phones Direct. Their phones are all unbranded.
If you want to install the HTC ROM without using HSPL you could always use a gold card to flash it.

I must agree with the above. I am with T-Mobile, got my HD2 at the end of January and it had ROM 1.43. They also stripped out YouTube and Co-Pilot! I downloaded a poor-man's version of YouTube as discussed in other threads (i.e. using the IE browser on the phone to download the cab file) and thought I was cool, but with T-Mobile taking an age to release the update ROM (I have heard March, but I wouldn't hold my breath!) I decided to use HSPL and update to 1.66 from the HTC website. Best decision I made!
Not only are all the little bugs fixed, I know have the 'proper' YouTube app back (beautiful!), Co-Pilot (trial version) plus a Windows Task Manager app (very useful!).
I did alot of reading before taking the plunge though, and made backups of backups, had a roll-back plan (admittedly untested) and followed each stage implicitly! But it was very striaghtforward due to the guys on this forum doing a fantastic job!
I never made one call on my T-Mobile HD2 before I flashed over to stock HTC ROM.
Years of HTC devices and operators ROMS told me not to wait until later!

I did exactly the same!
As soon as I turned it on and saw that horrid T-Mobile logo, I turned it off again and flashed it with the HTC WWE Rom

HTC Hero 2.1 Update (Orange)

Not sure if this it true but thought it was worth posting anyway, I have been speaking with Orange techs everyday for this last week on another matter and have been periodically asking about the update for the hero.
This morning the agent said they got an internal update about it yesterday and we can expect an update to be rolled out starting 3rd July.
There is already a thread ** Official 2.1 UK UPDATE Thread ** .
Keep posts in the same area regards to this update then everyone can find it.
Dude he is talking about a carriers update not the generic one from HTC.
So I think a separate thread is a good idea

Make that two.. Orange Heros seem to be struggling to get the updates
I have the same problem. The first update has not yet appeared.

While having everything in the one place would be nice.. I think there is still call for having separate threads on 2.1

me three. You'll just get loads of orange rom threads appearing. No point in having a specific (potential) answer to a problem hidden away in a thread about the generic rom.
Me 4. I've been trawling through loads of posts to find Orange updates.
I have gone back to stock ready for the official Orange 2.1. I've had a variety of ROMs for 6 months, just want an official 2.1, as I've never been happy with stability of any, or there's always one thing that doesn't work.
Gav.
Does anyone know if we will have to have the newest orange rom to get part 1 of the update, (ROM Version:2.73.61.66 released on 2010-02-04).
I never bothered with it at the time as it didnt seem to actually do anything different from the ROM they released in November along with all the other rom updates, (Rom 2.73.61.5).

I can see the reasons for keeping everything together and normally I would agree, but as this nugget of info was specific to the Orange build and I thought a separate thread so Orange customers can see it would be more useful, burying it on page 50+ of a thread about the generic (and rooted ) build didn't seem the right place for it.

Im running the latest version now as I thought that it might be required to trigger the part 1 of the update the other week, but so far nothing so we'll just have to wait and see.
figures crossed for the 3rd...

think i'll just wait and see what happens rather than install the .66 rom if i don't need to.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow then chaps
Yeah right!!!!!
It'll be out when Orange sign it off and finish filling it up with their crap.
As for whether you'd need the latest ROM? yes you would. FOTA updates are deltas and only work from the most recent ROM.
Good idea!
I am normally against fragmenting topics, but I agree, when it comes to Orange UK, the ROM updates are always a bone of contention!
I now own a HTC Desire but my partner has the HERO on Orange and I am waiting anxiously for this update to get cracking on making this phone useable again.
*** My question however is this: I have paid Orange to unlock the handset to any network. Will I still have to update with an Orange ROM or will I get the 2.1 update unbranded now?? ***

I dont think you will.
My contract is coming close to an end so will technically own the phone outright so I asked HTC if it were possible to flash their generic stock rom on the phone to remove the Orange branded version and they said its not possible and I will only be able to install roms provided by Orange on the handset.
I think its time to bite the bullet and get rooting...
After all this is the last chance to do it, if we install the official version we will be locked out forever and the Hero isnt going to be getting another official update after this one.

I can't understand why people are still hanging on. Rooting is well easy and the roms better than the official releases.
do you know?
i'm running my hero with modaco 2.8 rom
will i have to revert to the stock orange rom for the update?
sorry if this has already been asked i have been on nights all week and don't have the energy to read through all these threads
cheers people
Still Waiting...
I have a HTC Hero on Orange...
This whole thing is very frustrating to be honest!
I am a total noob when it comes to rooting, but I think i might just go ahead this weekend and put villain v12 custom ROM on my HTC Hero. Worth a shot¬!
Its taken them ni on a year to release this update, and when they finally release it, the people stuck on locked phones have to wait even longer!
Still, I really like HTC Devices and Google android is the shiz! So its all good!

If I were to root my Hero, would it be unlocked from the orange network? I've been researching all the methods before I jump in to rooting it, and I've come across people having to reflash to an orange rom because they weren't able to use their Hero after updating. I was looking at VillianROM 12, but I didn't want to do anything if I had to default back to Orange after my efforts. They have a wiki with step by step instructions, easy enough, I'm just kinda weary as I've never rooted before. All I want is the newest update and be able to use an O2 sim.
