Alarm Sounding When none set... - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi there,
Really hoping someone can help me with this rather odd problem..!
My M600 alarm has started sounding at 5:30am every morning, All though no alrams are currently set on the device... I have unticked all alarms, changed the time on the alarm but still it sounds, I need my sleep, has anyone else had this problem? Dont really want to do a hard reset
Thanks
G

The forum, you search.
For `alarm` you will, and a solution you'll find.

Sorry if im being stupid..... The only posts i can find point to installing a thrid party application, which i wouldnt mind doing its just that i need to get rid of this alarm sounding at 5:30 to keep my sainity!
Am i missing something?
Cheers

Download Memmaid and find the notification for the alarm that is going off and then delete it. This should take care of your problem. I had the same thing going on and this was a straight approach to effectively removing the phantom alarm.

Hmm. . specific I need to be.
This thread you go. 3rd post you read.

`CheckNotifications` free-program you install.
Problematic notification on your specific time you look for. Kill it you will.

TWO SIMPLE QUESTIONS ABOUT XDA EXEC PROBLEMS

Since installing the latest O2 ROM upgrade I found two problems:
1. Alarms and timers (chronos, spb time) don't wake up the machine. I need this feature and this a major problem for me, surely must be also an issue for others.
2. I don't want the battery icon on the top bar, I want just the clock.
Does anyone knows a trick to change for the better any of those, please?
Thanks, Gonz
1) u can install 3rd party Alarm Softwares.
2) search the forum, there is a solution

Really?
Care to post a link? Everything I've read says there is no solution yet.
Look in your startup folder, there is a file that activates the battery icon (I can't rremember what it is called and I don't have it anymore, but I seem to remember it's obvious when you see it).
Delete it (or copy to another safe location) and your battery icon will no longer appear.
OK, it seems my problems are not so simple to solve, after all.
These are the files in my startup folder:
sddaemon, services, theme refresh and voice command.
Could you tell me which one to delete to get rid of the battery icon please?
Uhm…, and what about the problem of timers and alarms failing to wake up the device? Do we have to use the dull Microsoft application?
Thanks

hdubli,
I do have lots of third party software for this purpose and they all fail with the exec wm5, something that did not happen on my xda 2i with any of them.
If you please care to be more explicit with the solutions, I am sure several here would appreciate it.
Thanks, gonz

For your alarm problem, check out pTravelAlarm
http://www.burroak.on.ca/wm2005.html
You are looking for version 2.6.0, which is for WM5 - their site claims that it's a trial version, but I've found it to be faultless, even after applying latest O2 ROM.
It's not free and I can't promise it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot.
If I can't leave my Exec plugged into mains overnight, I disable the "Turn device off after..." in Power Settings and it hasn't failed to wake me up yet.
Its volume control isn't linked to your device's, and it's loud enough to put the fear of God in you...[/code]
I am having a similar problem. What you guys dont seem to understand, is, even if there was a $1000 3rd party alarm software, it will be of no use when the phone refuses to wake up.
The problem we have is not of the alarm software, but the simple problem of the phone not waking up, e.g. from standby to ON.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
Thank You
This forum has not resolved the issue of the battery, hunders if not thousands of people are awaiting some miraculous fix for this. the only thing I know to work is using wizbar to reskin the title bar.
in relation to alarms, sorry, i know the wm5 is a problem. though, the inbuilt alarms that i have used on the device do wake the device up.
the other thing you can try is, dont turn it off, dont allow the system to turn it off after a period of time, and just close the device without turning off.
it will drain a little bit more power, i think approximately 15% over the night than what it would otherwise draing, but if it is plugged in, then it wont drain at all and will ensure the device wakes up.
thanks, it is probably rom related since u report that your device does wake up. Can you tell me what rom version u are using? Thanks

Many thanks, I did try not to switch it off and it works!, even the timers!
my rom is in my signature, unlike yours.
what i was saying was it wakes it up from its sleep, but not its off state.
just closing the clam was sufficient to preserve battery, especially given that at night its always charged. even during the day, i rarely turn it off. i just close the device and let it rest....
Why is the "turn off device if not used for" alway
Does anybody know how to prevent the system from ticking this box every time?
My machine does it on its own, yes, it does, sometimes even after changing from landscaping view to normal.
So, the advice of not turning it off to make the alarms work is OK, but needs constant rechecking that the box remains unticked!!
Thanks,

I would look at your other software that may be enforcing this as it has never happened to me, nor have I read about it.

If you mean Windows\Startup, I have sddaemon, O2 UI Refresh and poutlook.
I have moved them all out (startup folder is empty) and still no luck.

My suggestion unrelated to your problem is to keep "sddaemon.lnk" out of the "start up" folder. If you haven't noticed yet, if you keep sddaemon on the start up folder, after performing a soft reset this file is duplicated under "Notifications" taking up your precious memory and slowing down your machine. You can check it if you have a program that cleans your Notification Que such as "Scary Bear's Check Notification" (freeware).
For the alarm one, does anyone tried using PocketWakeup? The original one is in French, but there is an English version too. Google for it and see if it works on the universal.

Anybody fix the vibrating alert problem with push mail?

I was wondering if anybody has been able to come up with a fix for the K-Jam regarding the problem where the unit doesn't vibrate when a new email arrives when in standby? This issues occurs with the new AKU2 ROM that introduced push mail.
Thanks!
i keep having to beat my head against a wall because people don't know how to read, let alone search. so here is the answer:
Microsoft has specifically said this is NOT an option in the current AKU2 roms. Why? because MS took out that option because it would drain battery life, especially if you are getting a lot of e-mails a day. if MS decides to enable this, that's up to them. is it as simple as a reg entry? no idea. but lets drop this subject and the continuous posts untill something actually does come up.
While there is no FIX per-se there is a very goos and easy work around.
Phone Alarm from http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.htm
lets you do a ton of stuff. Setting vibrate for all e-mail accounts is just one of them.
It also supports repeating alarms for e-mail too. Actually this is why I found this program. I use my 9100 as a pager for my companies tech support so I wanted a repeating alarm rather than just a go off once where it could be missed. Check it out.

ahem. What I have seen MS state is that turning on the screen when new mail arrives could seriously impact battery life for high volume mail users. The last public statement from MS that I've seen (besides the statement above) is that the vibe-on-email issue couldn't be replicated but would be escalated in the WM team. The response was from Jason L. who posts to one of the WM team blogs and his response was posted here by a forum user who contacted him directly.
For reference, the pre-AKU2 ROMs also do not vibe-on-mail and whatnot and stuff.

TECHNICALLY you are correct. This program does not FIX the problem, if you have the settings done a specific way you can get the behavior folks are looking for.
If in the Alarm settings page you set "Always vibrate if muted", "Always vibrate with sound" both on, and set "Don't activate backlight on alarm" off or unchecked. Then when an email of any kind comes in, push or otherwise, the phone will wake up, make your selected sound and vibrate as often you choose in the repeat settings. I tested with with my mail2web account extensively.
So as I said at the beginning TECHNICALLY the phone does not vibrate while asleep, Phonealarm will turn on the phone and then vibrate according to your settings so I am right too. It can be done.
Since I was at the movies this past weekend and felt a vibrate while the phone was in it's holster I can say for sure this does what I need it to.
Oh, and by the way I left the theatre before I pulled out the phone to check the message. We must think of others.

You sir are my favorite person of the day. I was going to work through the the dozens of setting permutations this evening to see if I had missed something. Thanks for the concise solution.
What do you personally do about the backlight coming on? Set the timeout to something low? It would be nice if it came on, vibed, and then went off. Well, really it would be nice it would freakin vibe with the backlight remaining off.. =)

Well thanks
I have not changed the backlight timeout since I rarely get more than a few of messages a day (I use it for urgent tech support messages) and I actually find I like that the phone is on when it comes out of it's holster. Since the thing never leaves my belt There is no real battery issue since I would pull it out and turn it on anyway. But I guess if you were worried about that, then setting the backlight timeout low would be a good solution.
This latest OS from MS really seems to be where they forgot about current users. They made all these changes without the ability to even hack back the old way. It's just so stupid. The battery icon thing, and now this vibrate thing. And for each one they ahve a plausabile answer except for the fact that there are tons of users that like things the way they are. I don't care if they change the default setting but they sould offer a registry setting to at least change it back when they make a big change. That is fricking MS for you!

Alarm is not set, yet still goes off!!!

I have a problem. The alarm time is not set, yet every morning at 9:45am, my alarm goes off. In the alarm program, no days are selected, and none of the 3 alarms are turned on. Why is this MDA beeping like crazy every morning at 9:45??? I've tried soft resetting, but for the past 3 days, it still goes off

It had the same problem, I once set the alarm at a certain time, disabled the alarm but it kept going off each day. I was unable to find the cause of this.
It did not searched futher because I was intending to change firmware at that time, of course It was gone atfter that.

you probably have some undeleted notification duplicate in Wizard's system and all you need is CheckNotifications:
http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/checknotifications.zip
run it on Wizard and look for entry which might look like your 9:45am alarm and delete it. should work.
I don't have much software installed. Just SPB Pocket Plus, XDA RegWizard, OpenNETCF, and Flash Player. It's pretty much stock other than a few skins.
EVA_D, again I run into problems. I'm a mac user, and we only use macs at the recording studio, so I can't install the .exe file. Can you possible install it on your computer, and then post a .cab file for me??
Ahh this is a nightmare....Luckily the past few days I've had to get up early, but usually I work til 2am, 4am, sometimes even 6am (At a recording studio), so a lot of times I don't fall asleep until 8am, and if I get woken up at 9:45 because of this, I will probably crush the phone in the palm of my exhausted hand...
anyone??
Here is the check notifications exe taken from my device - just run it on your device should work.
If that does not work i will post memaid to you from my device.
If nothing works then its hard reset time - then use a different alarm, see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43692
That doesn't work. I emailed the exe to my phone, but it wont install. I need the cab file. Can you post the cab that is extracted from the exe?
Strange works on my device without a cab install. The exe is a standalone exe not an install exe. Sorry dont have cab for it
Ahh, I didn't realize it was an actual app, and not an install file. It's loaded up, and I have 472 events, which the app says is very high. So how does this work?? Am I supposed to clear ALL events??
Does the MDA store ALL the event information from the day it was turned on? It seems so because 472 seems to be a lot. Is this a bug on the MDA that may cause it to run slow? What (if any) are the effects of clearing ALL events? Will this basically be a reset pf the phone and require me to set up my mail, proxy, and other information again, or does it just deal with notifications and whatnot?

NO! not ALL! get into Options -> settings, check both boxes -> OK. then tap 'Clear' button on top of main screen. number of notification should reduce significantly (in my case it's about 15-20 after clearing). some notifications are essential for running system and should never be deleted.
Wow, 472? I think I have 13. You definitely need to do some spring cleaning there.

Alarm Doesn't Work!

Using Enom's or Cy's ROM...(with the Nextheme and Goodies)...the alarm doesn't go off at 530am!
Anybody know if it's the ROM itself or the Theme+Goodies? Or do I need to experiment myself? (I've experimented with setting the alarm to go off an hour after I set it....it worked...but not sure if it worked because I was playing with the phone at the time)
All I get when I wake up is the trackball blinking. I've read somewhere that the alarm turns itself off after an hour...but I wake up around 5 minutes after the alarm was supposed to have gone on.
Good thing I used a backup alarm...otherwise I'd be in deep Sh------------it!
My alarm didn't go off today, but did yesterday. I have the clock as ignore in my task killer.
What I have found is that my ringtones somehow get lost on the SD card and not played. I am not sure what is happening!!!
Not cool though.

If you use any sort of task killing application and do not ignore or exclude the clock, it will kill it, and your alarm along with it.
Problem is that I ignore the Clock.
But when I go to check the Alarm Ringtone, and press play, it doesn't play anything, just a VERY LOW beep. Worked yesterday, nothing today.
Very odd!!

I like to push the audio files to the system and into it's corresponding folder. Maybe you can try that.
For me...I totally forgot about task manager! I never thought of it because the Alarm Icon is always displayed on the notification bar next to the time...whether the clock is killed or not. I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning after I exclude the clock app from being killed.
Kind of makes me wish the Android 'stole' some stuff from the Blackberry.
Can you explain that a bit more? How would I do that?
Will Astro work?
I honestly think it is an SD issue and yes, I never had that problem with my blackberry. They keep the ringtones on the system memory and you never have to worry about it.

I'm guessing that it will only work with a rooted phone. (Mine is) This is what I use. Root Explorer. I take the files from the SD card and move it into the system/media/audio/alarms directory.
Not sure if Astro is able to access the root of the phone. Otherwise I guess you can use
adb push alarmfilename.mp3 /system/media/audio/alarms
Either way you do it...reboot the phone.
Got it, and done, thanks.
Will see if this works.

Honestly I don't know why people are assuming you don't know what you're doing, I think it's safe to say you know how the settings on your phone work, after all you are posting on XDA so one would think you're tech savvy enough to know how to enable vibrate and ring...despite the large number of morons on here nowadays.
What I'm getting at is I'm experiencing a similar problem myself. Only my phone no longer vibrates when I receive messages. It will vibrate and ring for incoming calls but only ring and no longer vibrate for sms. I never changed anything, it just stopped working properly about 2 weeks ago and I was hoping the problem would solve itself, sadly it hasn't yet. I've double checked every setting, uninstalled and reinstalled different apps and have emailed Handcent about the issue, no solution so far.
Also, when I go to the notification settings in Handcent and "test notification" it never vibrates now, regardless of the vibration pattern I select.
Any real help other than unfunny childish smartass comments would be appreciated, for both of us I think.

I dont think they are childish comments, but the comments are assuming a lack of technical ability
What troubleshooting have you done? What (apart from uninstalling apps and changing settings) have you done at all? Have you thought that your phone may be broken?
Chances are that if it is failing at vibrate, then no amount of software tweaks or 3rd party apps can fix a hardware fault. TEST IT using the service menu.
(Lock screen - Menu, Back, Back, Menu, Back, Menu, Menu, Back) Service tests => Vibrator. If your phone does not vibrate, then you have a problem. If it does vibrate then go back and check all your settings again - factory restore if required!

How can we assume that the user has any technical skill when this is what was written. If you have an issue, please give a decent outline of what it is (like RVICTORG has done) and the other users can probably see where you are going wrong. "Its not working" does not help anyone.

Dude, have a look at some of the threads he/she has started, it seems they start threads just for the sake of it, and I've come across the same behaviour on other forums from them.
I got it figured out people are nice at Android forums to answer my question and not laugh at . And I do search before I post

People are nice here too, but we get a lot of trolls, questions asked 1000 times and people who don't search before posting... so yeah, we're a little short tempered as well...

look mate, if thats all it takes to get you all p'd off, well whatever. If you look up at the top of this thread, i did ask you what you meant....no response though. sometimes you just have to ask it the right way.

No I haven't looked at any of his other threads, and believe me I know there's a lot of idiots on this forum nowadays, but I guess benefit of the doubt before harsh words :S Doesn't matter now, he solved his problem but I haven't resolved mine.
Like I said in my earlier post, my phone will vibrate for incoming calls, just not messages any more. The service test was one of the first things I did and I can confirm my phone will still vibrate. I have absolutely no idea why it's not for messages and I feel like I've exhausted all possible solutions barring re-flashing firmware. I haven't received a response from Handsent yet, based on that and no others commenting here I assume this is just an annoying isolated incident.
Will update if I find a solution. Thanks for your suggestions guys despite me having already trying them it's still appreciated and if you think of anything else let me know, peace.

Ummm..... So, you figured out the solution to your problem, and all you say is "it's good now'', and don't share HOW you fixed it? Come on, dude!
You started this thread because you had a problem. Now that you found the solution, it is only logical that you post the solution as well. This way, other readers that have the same problem can get help too! I'm sure RVICTORG would like to know what you had to do!
@rvictorg -- have you tried the standard messaging app?? does it work on that?

Yeah I tried turning on notifications for the standard app and no vibrating, just audio and visual alerts. :S Thanks though. I'm thinking I may just have to uninstall/re-install Handcent to see if that helps.
