Hello
can you guys recommend a WAP browser for the XDA Exec?
Is the internet explorer that is pre-installed is a standard http browser
if the payment is on a per data byte basis, is there an element of i-mode in the application layer at least in the core network side

My carrier has two diffrent rates for surfing. data connection and wap connection. the wap one is much cheaper than the data one. i've been told by my carrier that surfing from the wizard is considered as data since i can view normal html web pages and use messenger, e-mail, etc..
my question: Is there any way to surf wap using this phone (like installing a diffrent web browser?)?
thanks..
This sounds strange to me, because the difference (from operator's POV) should be which access point you use. When WAP was free for me, I browsed everything from my SE P800 with no additional cost.
But you can't access e-mails, ICQ, ftp etc. via a wap access point, only HTML or WML pages!
I have the settings in my phone for wap surfing. but i can't see any normal html sites while using it.
the thing is that there is a way of configuring a regular pc to use the phone as a modem and then access everything via WAP, using a proxy server. i thought maybe i can do the same thing in the phone itself.
OK, this is driving me crazy, I've tried several browsers and can't get OWA to work on my T-Mobile MDA with the TMO internet $5.99 plan. It does work with Opera or NetFront on WiFi. Here's what I've tried so far:
* IE Mobile (PIE) - OWA does not work, even with WiFi. As reported in other forums, this browser does not open the authentication pop-up. Adding PIEplus didn't help, nor did Multi IE (although they seem to be handy programs).
* Opera - OWA works w/Wifi but not w/$5.99 plan. The latter gives error message "The proxy server requested a login authentication method that is not supported." This is because, to surf the web with this plan, it is necessary to configure a proxy server, and (according to the Opera web page), this browser does not support Microsoft's proprietary protocols for encrypted authentication with a proxy server.
* NetFront - same as Opera.
* MiniMo - Had heard that this browser is not yet very capable, but wanted to try it anyway. Could not get it to work at all, would not open any web pages and often froze.
Any ideas for other things to try?
Thanks much,
B

Thanks for the link, didn't solve my issue but helpful info.
We can only use a certian port with the 5.99 plan. We cant get access to the others that the programs need
My network provider currently has a very small whitelist for which User Agents can access the Internet through the GPRS (Web only) service. Opera on my Touch HD didn't make it to the list, but I managed to modify its user agent to HTC_TyTN_II and now I'm good to go.
However, push mail doesn't work too. Is there a method to modify the User-Agent which is sent in the HTTP headers of Pocket Outlook's push mail client? It is, after all, HTTP traffic.
Any ideas?
how do you enable full web page view in opera or IE ?
i am stuck in mobile web view
do i have to install a .cab ?
HTC TOUCH HD
winmo 6.5
for IE and opera
from IE
menu>view>desktop
From opera
menu>settings>display> (unclick) mobile view [if it is ticked]
i tried that but did not work
check internet settings
if it is not set to gprs/edge /3g setting
then it uses wap to access the net, wap sites of popular sites are mobile web
I had the problem once when my carrier routed my browsing through their proxy server. Ended up with mobile web, if by default your internet carrier is set through this [check your advanced connection settings] remove the proxy you'll end up with proper browsing
hope some seniors could give their two cents on this issue
