Unable to obtain Server Assigned IP address - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I posted this question in the Networking Forum but got no replies. But here is my problem:
I messed around with the Network adapters settings, while trying to get WiFi to work properly.
Now everytime I connect to ActiveSync via USB, I get the error message, "Unable to obtain Server Assigned IP address". I am sure this is because I set one of the adapters to "Automatic IP", but I don't know which one. Moreso, my Wizard does not access the internet properly when connected via USB.
Could someone please tell me which adapter I wronged, and what setting its supposed to be?

i get this error message randomly. jus wen i wake it up the pop up will be there, i thaught it was jus a gprs error or something.

Same here :?

i´ve been getting the same message each time i plug my phone in to sync with my pc.
But now i put a IP adress in with my Wireless networkcard settings on the phone and the last time i synced the message didn´t show up anymore. Try that maybe it´ll help you too.
edit:
ok sorry, it didn´t work. Just got the same message when i synced the phone on my home pc.

Solution
Hi, make this:
Start > settings > connections > Network cards > Remote-NDIS Host > Click Use specific IP address
Enter 169.254.2.1 for IP address
Enter 255.255.0.0 for subnet
Enter 169.254.2.2
It functions on my Wizard...

Solution
Hi, make this:
Start > settings > connections > Network cards > Remote-NDIS Host > Click Use specific IP address
Enter 169.254.2.1 for IP address
Enter 255.255.0.0 for subnet
Enter 169.254.2.2
It functions on my Wizard...

My Wizard loves to give me this error message at random too. I'm curious as to exactly where it's trying to get a server assigned IP address from, and why.

Thanx Viking. Someone had replied my post in the Networking Forum with the same IPs as yours.
Thanx again

i would check you firewall aswell, cus that would block it out if it is not setup right. My does this everytime i get a update for the firewall!!!

Enjoy I had the same problem and found this solution in another discussion...
I found that this problem appears when you make ANY configuration changes in "Network Card"((

Hi, all,
I'm having the same problem with a Universal. Would this "fix" work also on my ppc?
Thanks

Yes, it should... It's a WM problem, not a problem of concrete machine.

tried this fix but it still does it.
Anyone got any other suggestions?

I did the same as you, messing around with settings.....
Anyway I think this is the procedure I did to screw it up.
Click Start, Settings, Connections, Network Cards, Network Adapters.
Then select Remote-NDIS host. The radio button to 'Use specific IP address' is selected but no IP address is entered. You can't exit this screen without either adding an IP address or selecting the 'Use server-assigned IP address' radio button'. If you select 'Use server-assigned IP address' the problem appears thereafter.
To fix it (or at least restore the defaults) you need to edit the registry:
HKLM\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp\
Change the value of 'EnableDHCP' from 1 to 0.
That fixed it for me.

Please can someone read me default IP settings

When I plug my JasJar into my PC, I get a message "Pocket PC Networking: Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in network settings"
Please could someone with a JasJar go to Settings>ConnectionsNetwork Cards and tell me if every adaptor is set to "Use server assigned IP address" EXCEPT "Remote-NDIS Host" which is set to server assigned, but has an IP address in the lower box.
If yours is any different, please tell me what's different so I can fix mine up.
Everything set to be Obtain Automatically only... I changed only DNS entry for WLan NE2000 card.. rest all left as automatically updatin...
thanks dude!

Harmless, irritating problem after usb modem setup!! HELP

So I decided to finally try and use my qtek 9100 as a usb modem to connect my laptop to the internet.
The first method I tried was from a thread in the xda-dev forums:
On your PC
// -- Microsoft ActiveSync --//
"File"->"Connection Settings" ->
(1) check 'Allow USB connection'
(2) 'This computer is connected to' -> 'Internet'
// -- On your device -- //
"Start"->"Setting"->"Connections" tab ->
(1) "Connection" -> "Advance" tab -> "Select Network"
-> the options for "Programs that ... the Internet should connect using:"
choose the option "My Work Network"
(2) "Network Cards" -> "My Network card connects to" -> "The Internet"
(3) "Network Cards" -> "Remote-NDIS Host"
Select "Use server-assigned IP address"
// -- Now test your connection before trying the option below -- //
If "Use server-assigned IP address" above doesn't work use
"Use specific IP address"
IP address: 196.254.2.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 196.254.2.1
// -- How to test your connection -- //
- Unplug your USB cable (if it is plugged-in when you change the setting)
- Plug your USB cable
- Wait for your ActiveSync to complete.
- Use IE in your device to test connection
ps: Some software (i.e. WorldMate) doesn't seems to work even I have connection on other sofware (i.e. IE).
Needless to say this method did not work; the second method that I tried was from howardforums, and all that it required was the download of htc's USB modem dialer program..within few minutes I was connected, easy as pie. I'm sure this method is also discussed in xda-dev, but I didnt find it.
Now comes the main problem, well I wouldnt say its really a problem, but rather more of an annoyance. Anyways, now whenever I connect through activesync, it synchronizes fine but within a few minutes a messsage will pop up on my ppc saying that:
"Pocket PC Networking, Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try
again later or enter an IP address in Network settings"
This is really annoying as it happens everytime I sync, everything else is working fine; usb modem, activesync, wifi, edge, etc. But how do I get rid of this? I know it definitely has to do with the steps/changes that I performed while following the first method above. Anyone know the default settings for the network cards, especially pertaining to "remote-ndis host" This issue did not happen until I messed around with it.
does anyone have a way to correct my problem?

Error message when connecting my 8125 to my computer...

Getting the same here with my XDA Mini S, I have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to assign. Strange thing is that it still synchs???
I got those messages, too. I could sync fine, but the messags bugged me. You can Google the error message and find the answer at Microsoft.com, which is...
Settings -> Connections -> Network Cards -> Network Adapters (tab) -> Remote-NDIS Host
"Use specific IP address"
IP Address: 169.254.2.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
Default gateway: 169.254.2.2
My LAN uses 10.0.18.x addresses, but I think it's something between the device and ActiveSync.
thanks phoney, it works a treat.

Pocket PC Networking

Firstly, I apologies if this has been asked/covered before, I have searched a bit hence the ?
When I connect my SPV M600 which is running a HTC rom to any computer through Active Sync (AS) either with a named profile or as a guest, I get this annoying pop up message!
"Pocket PC Networking
Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in network settings!
I don't know why this has just recently started happening, it may have something to do with me playing with the settings, when it first started!
So I go to Settings/Connections/Network Cards and see under Configure Network Adapters 'My network card connects to: The Internet'
Tap an adapter to modify settings:
I have tried to assign a 'specific' IP address to each 'Adapter' along the lines of 192.x.x.x 255.x.x.x etc
But still get the above message.
Also if the 'My Card connects' is set to 'Work' I still get it!

GUIDE : Sharing you PC or laptop internet Connection with your phone through wifi

Here is a simple guide to share you PC or Laptop internet connection with your phone through wifi.
Download and install connectify on your PC or Laptop. Do a google search, you'll find Connectify-Lite for free.
Fill in the settings panel with your prefered WiFi name, password and internet connection to share.
Click start button to start sharing
On your Wireless Connection Status, click Details to get the network connection information, note the IPV4 Address
Now on your Android Device
Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi Settings
Open Advance settings menu
Tick the Use static IP option
Enter your desired IP address (ex: 123.456.7.8) into Ip Address field
Enter your IPV4 Address (ex. 192.168.178.1) into Gateway field
Enter 255.255.255.0 into Netmask field
Enter your internet connection’s DNS server (use ipconfig /all command to get DNS info) into DNS 1 and DNS 2. As an alternative, you can use Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Connect to Wi-Fi using your password
Disable and Enable Wi-Fi (in case if it won’t connect)
It will start working on your android device.
The reason that you need to do all this is you don't have DHCP server enabled on your windows machine for connectify.
An alternative way is to use "Internet Pass through" USB connection mode. In this case windows will automatically enable a DHCP server.
I have attached the screenshots with the post.
Please ask if you have any further query.
Hit the thanks button if you find my post useful.
I dont understand, what does this accomplish? If you have wifi just connect to it.

It helps you share your PC internet connection with your phone through wlan if you don't have a wifi connection and your PC is connected to internet via ethernet.
