xda2s pre pay or contract - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
I have an xda 2s which I would like to unlock to tmobile pre pay network.
However, I am only being given option of pay monthly.
I have unlocked the phone and am receiving a network signal from tmobile.
Is there a program i can run to remove this or do I have to go out and buy an pay monthly sim.
After all the effort of unlocking it aswell, when I could have just bought an 02 sim!!!
02 say that the xda2 is only pay monthly, are they right?
Grrrr
Help please.
Thanks in advance...

i am in heaven

I am in heaven as O2 have provided me with my unlock code for the new XDA 2 within 48 hours and it works fine with my t-mobile sim card (including GPRS). The O2 active screen allows me to access these pages via my t-mobile gprs connection (which i am only paying £10 for 100MB per month)
That#s very interesting... O2 told me that I could unlock my phone for £195 & it would take two weeks to get the code. so who at o2 did you talk to ??? I thinks I need to call 'em back
just spoke to customer services on sat..they charged me standard unlocking fee of £15 ..asked me imei number over phone ..they said it could take 4 weeks..but received call this afternoon with the code..60 seconds later i had a unlocked xda 2..no hassles at all..best thing is i only took out an o2 contract three months ago..free t610 on £15 line rental...and they allowed me to upgrade to the xda2 last week for £350--only extending my contract by three months...wow i am impressed...so i am now using my voice calls using my vodaphone tariff (1000 min for £37a month and my data using t-mobile 100mb for £10 at the same time)
Did you have to pay off your line rental?
Chaps I'm speaking to today won't have it without doing that
& I don't even get a fecking 02 signal where I live!
Can you please clarify something, you pay £10 a month for 100mb of gprs data on T-Mobile. How is this possible as I pay around £25 for 20mb through T-Mobile. If your right I will certainly be calling T-Mobile for a refund.
Landofnod
i doubt tmobile have to have the same prices all over the world as
it have to compeat with companys which different prices in different
countrys
i did not have to pay a penny apart from the £10...i live in London and T-mobile for a few days gave a special promotional gprs tariff - £10 for 100Mb..they then stopped offering it and instead are now offering a special email tariff (100MB for £10 until end of Dec 2003).
The person who dealt with my unlocking request dealt with it in the same way as unlocking any other handset...
Sanjive...if that is the case i must have one of the only o2 xda 2 unlocked...cool..i would sell it on ebay but i am enjoying it too much
Phonefreak
Just to clarify
Did you have to pay your line-rental in full before they unlocked your phone?
They WILL unlock my phone (anyone's) but they insist on my (anyone) paying up the contract at the same time. I can do this but would prefer to just continue to pay monthly.
not at all..i am only on a £15 tariff...
I PAY $10.00 (U.S.A.) FOR UNLIMITED GPRS....ADD ON TO VOICE SERVICE
Phonefreak, from what you say, does that mean everytime you wish to 'surf' you will have to go through the arduous task of swapping SIM cards and once you're finished surfing, swap again back to your voda number? Isn't that a massive pain?
I can't see any reason to unlock my xdaii as yet... wonder if we can unlock it for free...
use my voda sim in the xda for voice (1000min allowance) and use a bluetooth connection to my t68i (with my tmobile sim) for data..no need to swap sim
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE DAT STILL HADA T68i

I went for the xda ii so that I can get out of the PDA+mobile combo... my P800 went to someway to resolve this but unfortunately screen/size/software forced me to abandon it in favour of the xda ii.
Do you not find it cumbersome (granted t68i is small and I'm an owner too! ) to carry two devices?
I am currently looking at the most cost-effective mobile solution as at the moment, my PAYG SIM gives best gprs in terms of cost while my pay monthly gives better voice-call deal. You looked at those SIM card copiers that allows one SIM to hold multiple SIM/numbers? Or a device that allows you to cut  your current SIM to just the SIM chip itself so it fits into a dual-SIM holder the size of one standard SIM hence allowing you to fit two SIMs into the one SIM slot of a mobile. Quite neat.
i wish that one carrier offered me the best data and voice tariff but since i have a good voice tarriff on voda (1000 min for £37) and a good gprs package on t-mobile (100mb for £10) i can live with a xda2 and a t68i..use to carry two phones and a ipaq 5550..so have still reduced one item

I am willing to end the auction early for 375pounds + 11.99 Shipping.
Cheers,
You really should add the fact that whoever buys it will need to have a t-mobile sim to use it since it can't be unlocked at present.
thanks for that shuflie!
can they not be unlocked at all? i'm so used to popping different sim's in my exec.
cheers,
Adam
They can, but it costs 100 euros with t-mobile
unlocking the mda pro
after you have paid the 1st months invoice, you can ask for the unlock code from T-Mobile UK - if you got it from them. Cost me 20gbp ISTR
Did they let you do that without paying off the rest of your contract? Very nice of whoever it was that gave you the unlock code but I've seen stories on here of others that have tried but couldn't get the unlock without canceling their contract and paying off the remainder of it.
adamchahl: If you can do this without having to pay of your contract it would probably increase the value of your MDA pro to be able to say it was unlocked in your auction.
Yeah, guess its worth a try, i will ring t-mobile tommorrow.
Will let you know how i get on.
Thanks,
nope, did not have to pay for the rest of the contract.
Contact T-Mobile customer services. Explain that you want to transfer your numbers from your old (voda/orange) sim to your shiny new mda pro. They will add the cost of the handling fee to your next bill. You tell them your imei number. Unlock code arrived a week later.
Note you get a 10 digit number, prefixed by two zeros and then eight numbers. Just enter the eight numbers, leaving out the first two zeros.
Worked a treat. ABSOLUTELY ZERO HASSLE.
T-Mobile UK 18 month contract phone ... still got my contract, 100 minutes a month and 40Mb a month data. Very happy with the service.
T-Mobile quoted my £15 to unlock the MDA Pro, however they mentioned that it can take up to 28 days for the code to come from HTC.
I will be more than willing to supply this unlock code for free to any purchesor when it arrives, so the phone will be unlocked.
I realise that there's a huge element of trust with doing things that way, so if it doesnt sell, i will just put it up for sale when the code comes through!
Cheers for your help!

Price @ T-Mobile! Really want to buy! Your opinion please...

Hey everyone, I hope this is useful for anyone else looking for the HD2 and are currently in a long term contract.
On T-mobile's tariff list, there is the HTC HD2 on a 18 month contract @ £13.50 (plus the phone cost of £195.73)
£13.50 x 18 = £243
£243 + £195.73 = £438.73
Currently that is cheaper than buying it SIM Free, and I can pay a good half of it, over 18 months. Does this sound good, or am I missing something here?
I am currently on a 24 month Orange Contract with a HTC Touch HD (Blackstone), it only started in January and it is my main contract with 800 Minutes, Internet, etc, etc, So i won't be using the T-Mobile SIM.
1. Is this worth doing? Or is it too much hassle and I am better of getting it SIM free?
2. Will the Phone from T-Mobile be Unlocked? (Apparently O2's HD2 are), if not, Can it be unlocked?
3. Will I enjoy this phone? I use a Touch HD, with a custom ROM, can't fault it, love the phone, love the keyboard, I am a long time WinMo user.
Thanks very much.
Any assistance will be much appreciated!
T-Mobile phones are nearly always locked and various reports here from people who've got one directly from T-Mobile have said that the HD2 from them is locked.
The ones supplied by O2 are also locked.
Both are very lightly branded by software. Externally there is no operator branding.
So you must factor in the price of unlocking the handset (around €22) as well as the fact that you'll have a HD2 with a CID of a branded phone.
I'm sure it's possible to buy one sim-free and unbranded from various places for around the same price of £460 (price of T-Mobile inc. contract + unlock fee), but I suppose the 'interest-free' way of doing it may appeal to you.
I've also heard that the o2 ones are locked but o2 will happily unlock it for you, they even have a link on their site for doing so apparently..
I really appreciate your comments, its been really helpful.
I will keep looking around for a HD2 SIM Free.
Any unlocking solutions? Like the one you have referred to as being 22 euros?
I had a look at o2's website, I can't seem to find the HD2 on their website, even then, they are not tariffs which look like they will be cheaper in the long run, oh well.
Thanks very much again.

The problem is no one has actually had their HD2 unlocked by O2 for free so far. There's been no report of it happening on this forum at all. Someone from here said that they rang O2 and they said that they would unlock, but they'd have to wait 28 days and pay £15. Until it's been verified by a member on here that O2 will unlock via that link (and maybe even for free) it's just hearsay.
The link to get a HD2 unlocked for €22 is:

Some members here have used this service so should be good/safe to use.

that is exactly my story too lol, had mine delivered from mobiles.co.uk on monday on a voda contract, 30 quid a month and half price for 6 months, but using my orange sim as got 8 months left on the contract!
I had this thought the other day about buying with a contract, if it was about the same price, as a way of cheap financing (no interest!). But, I am in the U.S. I'm thinking they would probably flag this somehow when the billing address shows up as being in the U.S.? ... What do y'all think?

You can only get a contract with a carrier in your country of residence! They'd have a hard time recovering debt if you decided not to pay 3000 miles away lol

I work for O2 and we had an internal announcement saying that they would unlock contract phones for free, although as everyone has been told it can take 28 days to receive the instructions. They should only be charging you £15 if you want to unlock a pay as you go phone. If you don't mind the wait then it's probably worth doing it through the link. That said it's a service they only launched a few weeks ago, so i wouldn't be surprised if there are a few issues initially.
Getting back on topic i'd say you would be better off getting it from T-Mobile rather than O2 if you are looking for the cheapest deal.
I Got mine from www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk It is sim unlocked and a choice of networks. Best of all they pick up the phone when you try to contact them! unlike mobiles.co.uk and mobile phone direct. I Dont like 18 month contracts as new phones are released to often. My 12 month contract with vodafone cost £540 total.

Generally O2 phones purchased on contract are unlocked from the off. The only exception to this was the iPhone (until recently anyway).
I know some people on the O2 Simplicity (sim only rolling contract) tarriff who managed to buy the HD2 'outright' but they came locked to O2. How does that work for unlocking purposes - will O2 still unlock for free? I mean it's entirely possible that they can leave almost immediately after obtaining the unlock code.
you're correct pretty much all o2 phones on contract are unlocked apart from the iphone and palm pre. Not sure about those who got the HD2 outright from O2, i'd assume they would still unlock it for free as these people have paid to get the phone outright.
Ah this has been most helpful!
I can't wait to order now, I am about to soon put my Touch HD on ebay, shove my Orange SIM card in an old 8310 lol until the T-mobile HD2 arrives! Can't wait!
Thanks a lot everyone for your input! I hope I can get it unlocked soon after it arrives too.

T-Mobile US requires credit check for "off-contract" tab

Just checked out the GT in a local store. Cute hardware. But they wouldn't sell it to me without passport and social security number. So much for picking up a U.S. tab while on holidays...
Were you trying to buy it at the off contract price? Were you paying cash?
I definitely wanted the "off-contract" GT. I would have been happy to pay cash, but we didn't get that far...
PS: On the t-mobile web page you need to pick an "even more" or "even more plus" plan to order.
Are you visiting friends in the States? If so, have them buy it for you. Or try a different T-mobile corporate store.
They can sell it to you without any credit check just like any item in the store if you are paying up front. Maybe they were just trying to make more money and/or save it for somebody who was going to sign up for service. Sad but it happens.
I just brought mine
I just brought one from tmobile store (no contract), and didn't ask for any credit check
I called up the other stores in town and they do require you to get at least one month of service with it. Which then entails a credit check, even if its only month-to-month. I guess ahbvrh was just lucky and ran into a CSR who wasn't aware of these rules. Yay!
you can simply buy a prepaid data plan (10$) and that will save you the credit check.
Im still loooking for the tmobile sim unlock code so I can use my existing corporate sim card which is AT&T

Are you saying that the 599.- "off-contract" GT is sim-locked to t-mobile US?? That would be insane...
That's no policy of Tmobile but maybe something they are doing in that region or those particular stores. There is no policy that says you have to buy a month of service for any device on tmobile now that they have the prepaid webconnect plans too. Even before that though you never needed to sign up for service to just buy a device its just expensive.
Yes,it locked for tmobile, but im sure it is possible to find unlock code somewhete
If you pay full invoice price its still sim locked but you are allowed to request the sim unlock code from tmobile. Just one catch you gotta have an account with tmobile to process that request.
That good to know,I just faxed them my recipt ,I will see if they will send me the unlock .....
Good luck! The t-mo web page say: http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm51885.xml
For customers with a T-Mobile Postpaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 40 days of active service with T-Mobile.
To me, that sounds like you have to wait >1 month... Yay!
it seem this is only for postpaid users....,I just bought prepaid data plan....
I'm sure there is a way to unlock using root or something

Oh yeah good point, you are the lucky one that got one on prepaid. Though in that case its even worse, and the same page says:
For customers with a T-Mobile Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
However, a quick google search brings up various pages that send you an unlock code for $$$...
I dont mind paying few extra bucks for gettong the unlock code.
googling it up show only one site that promise unlock code for the galaxy tab,but it is for the sprint vetsion, and I'm not sure it will work on the tmobile one...
Confused! I thought CDMA devices were never locked and if you wanted to change carrier (eg Sprint to Verizon) you just needed to get the new carrier to register the devices ESN on their network (which is often easier said than done!).

Dave
Tmobile is GSM

I know. I was referring to the previous poster who mentioned unlock codes for sprint, which CDMA.

Phone Locked from P4u

Is it possible to buy PAYG from P4u and the phone is locked? Because yesterday when I wanted to buy PAYG for £499.99 the staff told me that is better to get the sim free version £530. I ask him why then he told me that the PAYG will be locked to network. (Whichever sim / network you choose your phone will be locked to that network). Is it true or he want me to buy £530 version?

I ordered yday but it seems on their website now they remove PAYG for SGS II.
I'm not sure whether my order went through because I cant track my order and no email confirmation. So just wondered if SGS II sold by P4u can be locked with any network?
SIM free

When I enquired about this phone at Phones4U last week (before upgrading to it through O2), I was told by the guy there they never sell locked phones and they're always direct from the manufacturer.

I knew that all these while but why did that P4u guy told me is locked on PAYG? Sounds fishy to me as he keep on pushing to get the sim free version. What even more weirder is I ask him the phone will be locked to what network and he say to any network I choose. Is is possible?
I'm a store manager at phones 4u. All our galaxy s2 stock and in fact all our pay monthly stock handsets afe unlocked. We don't make much from selling the gs2 on pay as u go so we hold stock back for pay monthly as stock is limited. Selling it at a sim free price makes us about double the amount of money compared to payg. Btw anyone wanting a contract gs2 in London just let me know

That justified his action but the thing I dont understand is why he told me the phone is locked on PAYG. Maybe he just want to push the sales for sim free but if P4u are not going to offer PAYG then they should've not put it in the advert. Anyway I just want to know whether is true or not that the phone is locked on PAYG.
100% unlocked whether bought on payg, simfree, or on pay monthly.
You could save yourself some money though and buy it o2 for £399. My one came locked but I got it unlocked for £15 and then I followed the guide someone else posted to debrand the handset. Total cost is 414 for the same thing and takes very little effort.

Get it from Carphonewarehouse! They come unlocked. Mine came unlocked. And it was a contract phone! Got the sim card separately!
I ordered from O2 before they took down PAYG so now i'm waiting for delivery. But I bought another set from CPW too. Give it one to my GF.
