Voice Command on Storage Card? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Can MS Voice Command run on a Storage Card?
I'm thinking about purchasing it, but would like to be sure I don't have to install it to main memory.

MS Voice Command must be installed to your main memory. It will not work if installed to the Storage Card

Thanks for the reply.
Looks like I need to reavaulate the software I have installed as I don't have much room left on main mem.

I have it installed on my storage card. However every time I power on I have to close an error message and then push my Voice Command button on the phone twice so it will work from there on out. ...until its rebooted again. Annoying, but it keeps my main memory clean.

Worksk perfectly on my 2gb storage card

Any way to remove error dialog on startup?

After a soft reset, my phone hits me with an error dialog saying that voice command cannot be found etc etc. The reason for this is because the storage card hasn't been read yet. I'm curious to find out if there is a way to put in a delay so that the storage card has time to load, if not even a way to remove that annoying nag screen will do just fine.
Anyone have any ideas?
Install voice command to main memory, not to storage card.

Thanks but that's just a workaround... I don't really want to do that because it's not just voice command, there are other apps that will make this happen as well.
Not all applications will respond well to being installed to the storage card.
I think I remember reading somewhere that you could change the order of the shorcuts in the startup folder as a workaround. Haven't tried it myself, though.
I got it. Used a program called SKTools to change the order and now it's perfect. No more nag screen!

Annoying Low Memory Message

I have an Orange M500 fitted with 1Gb card, and as its new not many programs & files. I have also done the Hard reste/ soft reset trick to install as few as poss of the Orange app, but still I keep getting a :? :? :? "Memory is low" message through voice command.
Stats are Main Memory 57.41MB, Storeage Card Used 171.99MB, Storage in Use 0.69MB and Extended ROM in use 16.84MB.
If anyone nows how to stop this message or what I should do to move the memory around to stop it I would love to know.
You'll need to enter 'Settings' and hit the 'Memory' icon, to get an idea of the true state of used memory.
To give you an idea of what to look for, here's my stats:
Total memory 57.41 (of course always the same)
STORAGE:
Allocated: 18.51
In use: 8.23
FREE: 10.28
PROGRAM:
Allocated: 38.91
In use: 10.52
FREE: 28.39 <- this is the most important variable
If your numbers are much worse, most likely you have been installing to 'Default location' instead of Storage Card. You will either need to uninstall most programs and reinstall on the SD card, or simply do a hard reset to get a fresh start.
If you have plenty of free STORAGE, you can move the slider to the left to assign more memory to run programs. A minimum of 6-7MB's are needed for STORAGE, though.
low storage
Hi all
as a newbie with an o2mini  , i seem to have a problem with storage
I have 27mb allocated to storage and 19.5mb is in use - yet i cant work out what is using all that space - i have loaded the vast majority of my programs on the storage card - any ideas on how to find out what is in storage ?
i used total commander but it shows virtually nothing ?
and i really dont want to do a hard reset and start again
try this buddy

Move Windows FOlder to Storage Card?

Hey guys, I have a 2gb card in my MDA, with basically nothing on it. WOuld it be possible to move my Windows folder there? Or would this mess my phone up? The main reason I want to is because I am trying to change my ringtone, and put a new ring into the Windows folder, but it says I do not have enough space. Also, how do I assign my text messages to my storage card?
Brian
i very much doubt it would run if it was possible, wouldnt it be far better to free up some space and re-install apps etc onto the 2gb card instead ?
Most programs that run all the time require to be installed onto the main memory otherwise it causes problems, reason being is its slower to use removable memory rather than internal memory, plus if you removed the memory card while an important program was running, all hell breaks loose.
Im sure you can only store attachments on storeage cards, not the text messages, their encrypted in outlook i think (which uses internal memory).
I tried putting smartkey onto my storage card, but it didnt work, and so I moved it back, and now whenever I come back from sleep, I get an error saying that smartkey.ee cannot be run from the storage card, even though it isnt there. It still runs however, from the main memory.
As for the text messages, I am not using Outlook, I am just using regular SMS.
Any ideas?

try deleting \Windows\StartUp\smartskey.lnk
I tried, but Its not in there?
Check your notification queue using an app like MemMaid or SKTools.
You can't move the Windows folder to SD - it's in ROM and is basically unmoveable. If you're feeling adventurous you could try making your own ROM, but it's for the foolhardy.
Use something like MemMaid to move selected windows dlls to SD, to gain considerable space. Always install any program that permits it to the sd rather then internal storage.

I second the suggestion of moving certain dll's to the storage card. MemMaid works great for that.
You will free up a lot of space.
Will memaid automatically do it, or will I need to select certain dlls? If I need to select them, which ones should I move?
Brian
It'll guide you through those it recognises as being moveable... no particular knowledge required. But check out brighthand as well, they have a guide on doing it manually. But that's just for background theory really.

MicroSD Card Question.

I have a question about the MicroSD cards you can buy for the Wing. Once I realized it was a good idea to have one for the wing (didn't take me long), I had one sent to me via UPS from some website. I got a 2GB. Anyway! My question is.. if I put the card in my phone, does it act as phone memory? Can I actually install .cab's and stuff ON the card and run them like they were actually installed on the phone?
Basically what i'm asking is if putting a MicroSD card into the wing is like putting a hard drive into a computer. It's not just a card to store things on, it's a card that acts as actual memory and you can install things on it too, right?
Today I kept getting pop-ups saying I had low memory. It was annoying as hell, so I uninstalled a few programs until I get my card. They were things I used like battery status and larger start menu, but oh well. I can do without them for a few days.
I know there's "Storage" memory and then there's "Program" memory. The Storage was at 0MB free and that's why I kept getting those pop-ups. My Program is at 18.34MB free.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, to answer your question, the microsd card is just like a hard drive. That's where you will prob want to store most of you applications, music, games, etc. This frees up memory on your main drive. I also have my camera setup to put photos on it too. I also keep a backup of all my cab files on my card. Whenever you have a card present, and you install a program, you get the option of installing on the card or the main drive. I believe our phones will take up to an 8 gig. I have 4 and it works great.
Thanks in advance.

I see. Thanks for the response. So I guess it would make more sense for me to uninstall everything I installed on my phone and reinstall it all on my card instead? That way most of my actual phone memory is free and it's all on the card? Any idea how much free memory there is to start off on the phone anyway? And what's the difference exactly between Storage and Program memory? I know Storage says Total: 31.44 MB and Program says Total: 47.89 MB. Is that how much the phone gives you to start with?
it will not merge with your storage
and memory is mainly what we call application mem like ram in a computer
not the harddrive
cabs should at install time ask if one wish to install to storage or sdcard

Storage card as Prog mem

So maybe this is asking for a lot or something that can’t be done, but has anyone found a way to remap or ADD a storage card as possible program memory? This would add so much more support for these phones if it could be done.
When you say "program memory" do you mean RAM? If so, there doesn't appear to be any way this is possible at this time. There would be too much lag between accessing the sd card and using the RAM, among other things.
If you mean storage of Apps and such then you can do that with heaps of programs, though some DO require being put into main memory. The windows files can't be put on he SD card for the same reason and there wold be no drivers to tell the Hermes to access the sd card. Things like Tomtom and other apps sometime do install to main memory but are able to be moved to the storage card, you just need to re do the shortcuts.
Cheers...
I meant as ram, I know you can do program installations to storage card, most of my large ones are done that way, but I was simply referring to when you are doing something and you just want to open the com manager and its like Not enought memory, close a program... but since it sounds like it wouldnt be fast or even possible then scratch that idea.
I referred to it as "program memory" because in the memory watcher ram is listed as that.
