Battery Drain caused by Push mail on WM5? - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

Hi guys and gals,
I ve been using pushmail for a week or so now and have noticed from the first day of using it that my battery drains so much faster when im using pushmail on my HP 6828.
My HP6828 used to last at least two days but now with pushmail enabled it lasts just till the evening of each day...
Is this a known bug? are there any fixes for this issue?
Thanks in advance for any help
NR

I thing, If in settigs you have "check the mail every 5 minutes", you will have drain battery every evening.

Serious battery drain with Emoze - push mail

Hey guys. I can't remember if this was brought up before and a search was inconclusive.
I recently got emoze up and running on my phone and I noticed that my battery is draining at almost 66% it's normal drain rate. It won't even last a day at this rate.
Any idea what might be going on? should I disable email notification?
Thanks.
Well, I really like emoze I just wish I had better battery life. I don't think that mail2web would work for the corporate solution I need.
Maybe emoze supoprt will have more information but there must be similar problems with other push email clients.

Another battery problem

Hello,
I have a new S200 and i noticed that every time I charge the battery its life time is shorten - I have omega battery pack installed and in first few time with a fully chard battery the battery meter was at 5 hours but now after 3 weeks a fully chard batters has only 3.5 hours left .
is it possible ?
starnge
I have the same problem with my Prophet -
I have a new Prophet, last month the battery lasted at least 5 hours ( I am using a battery plugin that show the battery time left ) and today if I get 3 hours I am glad , no changes ware made to the device .
I turn my Prophet Off every night - could it be the problem ?
You didn't enable the bluetooth or wifi option? Because those eat up battery quite fast. And did you do a rom update? Some gsm updates cause more drain on the battery.
And perhaps it could be some programs use up the battery, but can't be sure about that though.
My BT is enable because I use BT headset all the time and I'v upgraded my rom to"RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_QtekWWE_Ship.exe" .
I heve no programs running at all (except 3 from the startup).
But the main problem is not how fast the battery ends, but a full battery last 3 Horus when a month ago it lasted 5 ...
Mine discharges in a day, without any call made and only 30 min of usage
Have U tried switching the IRDA off ? 'Cause by default it's on.
the irda kind of doesn't consume at all..
I guess I had this trouble with every phone I got, the first 2 weeks are always giving better battery time, and it quickly decrease to a more "stable" state... Don't know why btw...
Are you still noticing a shortened battery life now compared to last week ? Keep testing, I bet this is already gone.
i doubt that it gets to a "Stable" state. i've been experiencing the same strange issue for 2 weeks now, in the exact same conditions as described in the first post (battery pack pro installed). i don't use IR/BT, i have no viruses, it's just the same phone. it also turns off from time to time, on no apparent regular basis. i am just preparing to rewrite the ROM, perhaps it helps.
p.s.: i've been using it for some time now (since it came on market), so it's kind of strange this started happening so sudden.
if there are no other obvious reasons you might try this tweak, which, they say, is helpful sometimes. I did it and now my phone loses 1-2 percent in standby mode in 7-9 hours and one battery charge lasts for 2.5 days of moderate use. good luck.

Did you install the A2DPfix.cab to avoid the skipping problem ?

Battery Life using PushMail

Hello all,
I'm using PushMail with MS Exchange and I am very happy about figuered out this feature. But now I have a new problem. If I have charged my battery up to 100% it only need half of a day to be empty without using my hermes (only UMTS for Push Mail)
Has anybody the same problem or a sollution ?
Thanks
sunmaker
Ok, try this. Open your maillbox in Outlook, then send yourself an email from another email account. Does the mail item hit your hermes and your inbox at (about) the same time?
note: if you have cache mode set in outlook then it should hit your hermes before you see it in your inbox.
If you can't access your mailbox with Outlook, then use OWA and hit refresh often to see when the mail item hits.
I suspect that you're going to find out that mail to your Hermes is delayed for up to 7 minutes from the time you see it in your outlook/owa viewed inbox. If you are seeing mail hit at about the same time, try this test periodically for an entire day to see if there's any time that this isn't the case. Let me know what you find out!

It's UMTS that is so power-hungry.
download Daniel Herrero's Bandswitch and force GPRS-only, to see the immediate result. Let us know; in my case it improved battery life from 20h to ~80h.
This doesn't necessarily account for a one half day drain. I'm on UMTS direct push and I go two days between charges. There's something else that I'm thinking about here. If sunmaker is seeing the delay I'm looking for then I'll reveal the reason.
Btw: on mine, email always hits my TyTN before I see it in Outlook.
You should be able to survive around 2 days with UMTS + DP .. and approx 3 days with just UMTS ...
You need to check for any processes/services that might have excessive CPU utilization ...

I have around the same usage in between charges. I get around 2 days with PM+UMTS but if I use my device extensively during the day i charge the same night.
half a day to empy sounds like there is a process chewing up your amps, or the battery is faulty.
It entirely depends on usage.
I get two days (similar to others above) using push and UMTS.
However, if ihave wireless enabled and bluetooth too, and using a bluetooth headset and make a couple of hours of calls in the morning, i'd be hard pressed to last the day out on the same charge.
I'm running Pushmail and UMTS also Bluetooth is enabled all day.
i spend about 35 minutes a day in calls and do send about 5 SMS mess. a day.
My battery last for about 20 hours.
Like i said, entirely depends on usage.
i recieve close to 30-40 work orientated emails a day ,of which at least 20 get replies instantly. add in 2hrs easily of actuall call talk time and its easy to see where my battery life goes.
a lot of people whinge about battery life, but if you expect alll the bells etc that a good WM5 device has theres going to be issues with long battery lifes.
My blackberry 8707g using UMTS and recieving maybe 10 emails a day barely last a day and a half from full charge. Thats without much else, and probably 10 mins of call time. SO i consider the Dopod 838Pro (or Hermes! ) to have more than adequate battery life for what i use it for. Besides a great, powered car holder and hard wired GOS device in the car has just about made this Hermes the best of any unit i've used, WM5, WM2003, Blackberry and palm inclusive.
thank you for so much response.
I have about 30 Mails per day some SMS and 60min phonecalls. I'm using the 1.20 radio so far. Could it be the radio ?
The radio versions i used before I have a lot of trouble with. Because my Hermes always loged out.
I have no other progs in the memory only the necessary (CommMgr, Active synk, Email).
I've ordered some new batteries (1350mAh ans 2.400(!) ) So I will look and see if it is the battery.

Suggestion regarding battery life

Hi guys, just as a suggestion, someone could stick a thread regarding battery life, with tweaks or recommendations of what to do to improve this. I'm sure it is the major drawback of our wonderful device and I'm always trying to find something that could help, but I never find anything that really helps.
After several tweaks from this forum, the only thing I think that have really improved my battery life was to disable the HTC sense. It really works. Somehow, the Sense drains the battery so fast, the change is very visible.
But of course the Sense is one of the best things of the HD2
What do you think guys?
I have the same problem as well, power management cab didn't help in 1.48 ROM, in 1.43 everything worked quite well
I'm subscribing to this thread in the hope someone can do a good summary.. fingers crossed!
yeah the only solution is not to use sense, sense drains alot of power.
After I installed spb mobile shell the problem is solved..
Using spb and not sense has made my battery last alot longer, at night the battery would drain 50-60 % when I was at sleep using sense, but with spb it only drains 5-10% for a whole night.
I am using Sense and my battery drains about 5% over night. I found 2 things that helped a lot.
1. Turn off Settings/Location and automatically decline the service to HTC apps.
2. Turn off Settings/Personalise/Vibration.
Since yesterday 7am my battery now is 48%
the following services are running:
-bluetooth handsfree
-email check every 15 minutes
-approx 1hr of calls a day
- synchro over bt activesync with pc
- installing some apps
i think its not to bad on the stock phone with some tweaks from xda
I have no idea how long that is for you, but it is 0920 am here now so.. 52% in two hours?

check the config, switch off twitter/facebook to manual update, use edge instead of hsdpa, etc
another thing that helps is to disable the animated wallpaper. You can do so by chosing from the album
email check every 15 minutes
lol what do you expect.
I download weather ever hour, and just check for mails when i want to, average use i drop 10% - 15% in a day with sense on.

I get similar. sense does not seem to drain battery for me. weather update every hour, Facebook every 2 hours, email every hour. I get 2 - 3 days use.
Got a question about Hotmail, I got it set to "As items arrive" now.
Does this mean it's scanning for email 24 hours/1440 minutes/86400 seconds a day?
If so, that would probably eat alot of battery?
Or does it work somehow else? Can somehow tell me please
Thanks

[Q] Google inbox draining battery

I installed Google inbox on my phone a few days ago and noticed battery life has not been good. After 12 hours, Inbox has eaten up 43% of battery, says cpu total 2h 41m 8s and stay awake is 10m 11s. Anybody else having an issue?
No, I have been using it for a while and haven't noticed much difference... Inbox incorporates location capabilities for reminders, which should make it a bit more of a battery hog, but nothing significant in my experience...

What's your note 3 model ?
Exynos variant or snapdragon ?
Been using Inbox for over a month on my Note 3. Haven't noticed any increase in battery drain compared to Gmail. Location services is turned off.
I'm having the same issue, but only recently has it started. Yesterday, I noticed my battery life was not as good as it should be by the end of the day (a difference of 25%)and when I checks for the culprit, it was Inbox who had consumed 25% of my battery. I don't know what would've started this behavior, but it's really a downer. I'm rocking a OnePlus One. Today, I have tried to forward am email several times with no success because the app freezes completely. This is really bothersome!
