Can't change ringtone in Dopod 818 Pro - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi All
I just installed one program called iMusic last week. After installation, I couldn't change my ringtone at all due to this program has changed default player of mp3, midi, ogg etc in WM5 from Media Player to be this program instead. Therefore, I've decided to uninstall it. But, after uninstalling, I still couldn't solve this problem. Anybody know how to change the default player of sound files back to Media Player?
Thanks
Mr.T

ehm, i had the same problem when i told to GSplayer to be my default mp3 player. However - i got into gsplayer settings and deregistered it from being the default mp3 player, so the problem went away. Ehm, maybe if you re-installed that program of yours and unregister it from being the default mp3 player from it's options prior removing it?

How to unregistered default MP3 Player
Thanks very much for your answering. Anyway, could you tell me how to unregister it in my PPC and change it back to Media Player??

Phone does not ring properly anymore

Hi
I have an xda 2.
Ever since I installed/uninstalled winamp beta it, my phone will not play wav files anymore. I have tried adjusting the wav file assocation in pocket tweak however as windows media player does not play this, what does?
Is there a quick fix to restore this setting?
Has anyone else encountered this before?
Stevo
no i've used both versions of the winampaq and i never noticed any wav issues
will it not play wav at all ?
will it not start windows mediaplayer when you doubleclick on wav files ?
will windows mediaplayer not play wav any more ?
No it will not play wav at all. Btw I don't think windows media player plays wavs at all or am I wrong?
Lets forget what program messed up the settings. I just need to know how to restore the phone or system as the default wav player.
What application is normally responsible?
if it cant play wav files in sounds and notifications in systems
then i think there is more amiss then just a associating issue
because it should not depend on that
if you open up your power tweak (assuming you have it installed) can you tell me what application is associated with "wav" file type.

mp3 ringtones not working anymore

I installed the NoteM program but since it crashed I uninstalled. The problem is that not all my mp3 ringtones are not working anymore.
In any file explorer the mp3s have no icon and when I tried to launch one I had to choose the program (wmp10). Now mp3 are opened with wmp10, I can listen to them, but the they have still the default unknown extension icon , not the wmp10 icon (in any file explorer). Also they are not working as ringtones either
Can anyone help, plz? I don't want to hard reset the device for now
NoteM did that to everybody. Only solution found so far is a hard reset. I tried using a program called pocket tweak to manually associate it with wmp. No luck though. I can associate mp3s with other programs and still have them function as ringtones, so i'm not sure that that is even the problem. It probably changes something in the registry that nobody has figured out yet.
I had the same problem when i install the pocket music player. Anybody has the the same problem with me?

Aparently pocketmusic associates the mp3 extensions to him.
Try to uncheck the mp3 extension in its preferences, it might work then.
yes, but then what's the point of having pocket music installed if the default player for mp3 is still the windows media player.
I don't think its a problem with the associations. I have my mp3s going to mort player with no ringtone problems.

well, it's just necessary for pocket music to be unassociated to work
it's either that or you'll have to find another means for the ringtones
i don't see why you can't just open the mp3s inside pocket music
I can confirm it's an association issue.
I installed pocket player and it took the association from Windows Media Player for mp3's. For 2 days I could not figure out why mp3 ringtones stopped working. Then I changed the association setting for mp3 back and everything works fine.
Unless you use your pocket pc in some strange way i can't see why any music app needs to take over the association. To play mp3's I click on the pocket player icon on my today screen and then choose a playlist or album folder to listen to. I don't click on a single mp3 file.
Anyway try that it should fix your problem and not have any after effects.
Checking again, I agree. mine are still associated with wmp. I was just accessing them with mortplayer.
No Sound after installing Pocket Music
Hello,
I had the same problem when installing Pocket Music (no more MP3 ring tones) so I uninstalled it and linked the MP3 to WMP again but the problem is still here.
My problem is even much more important, my speaker are not working so no sound (playing MP3, phone call ...). My only way to have sound is to use my hand free hearings but the Qtel9100 is not making any more sound and on the phone calls, I can't speak and can't listen if not using hearings ???
PLEASE HELP ...
I tryed to restore my PDA but the problem of micro not working is still here. I can't even talk to someone calling me. I think about doing a hard reset but i don't know how to do it ?

No MP3 ringtones when WMPlayer not default player!

I've encountered a little problem. I'm using PocketMusic as my default player because it sorts by track number (unlike the built in media player), and thus the filetype .mp3 is associated with it. However, if I try to assign an mp3 as my default ringtone, it firstly won't let me preview it, and secondly, it reassigns the default ringtone when I press ok. However, if I remove the file association from PocketMusic, then it works fine again.
I suspect that the audio notifications engine must run on the built-in Media Player and that this cannot be changed.
Is anyone using another media player and having the same problems?
Yep, I have seen this installing any other media player that want to take over the default file associations. Don't let them associate or you won't get any ringers =[. I also suspect that Windows Media Players shares the 'engine' for ringers.
same here, does anyone have a solution to make pocketmusic not a default player?

no phone ring tones except windows default sound

Hi,
My HTC Universal (O2 Exec) has stopped playing all phone rings except the windows default sound. I've tested mp3 playback etc and it is just those rings I've lost. All other souds play fne.
Any ideas?
Update: Have traced problem to recent installation of iMusic. Uninstalling Imusic cured it...
I had this issue on my iPaq 6315, running Windows Mobile 2002. It is slightly different system, but it should be the same issue for the most part.
The media filed (mp3 or wav) you are playing, if you have a program other than Windows Media Player set to be the default program to play these tunes, sometimes it will take over the ringer. I set the file to be opened with Windows Media Player by default, and the corrected it. I myself was using the TCPMP player.
You should be able to install the iMusic, but just not have it control the media files.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for that. To be honest I wasn't impressed with iMusic and had planned to uninstall it anyway.

Ringtone always goes back to Windows default?

I have a Dopod D810 (WM5, ROM 1.23.707.6) and I have a strange and annoying problem...
When I set an MP3 or WMA file as a ringtone, it works on the first 1-2 occasions that someone calls then next time I receive a call, it will ring as the Windows default ring. Usually it will ring silently for about 2-3 rings then the Windows default tone kicks in. I go back and check and the MP3/WMA sound file is definitely still there and can definitely be played....
I store my ringtones under \Windows\Rings but have also tried with storing the files under \My Documents\My Tones and even \Application Data\Sounds...
Any ideas?
Or perhaps recommendations for a ringtone manager that can take over from WM's unstable handling of my ringtones...?
Thanks in advance!
This problem usually happens when Media Player is not the default player for MP3 or WMA files. Have you installed a music player recently? If so u need to make sure that Media Player is still the default player for MP3 and WMA, otherwise ringtones won't work properly.
yes, you're right, i installed pocket music and it is now the default player for mp3 files. i'll re-associate windows media player and give it another go...
hrmmm no luck, changed default mp3 player back to windows media player but it still plays the crappy windows default ring. i have no idea...maybe i just have to install WM6 and take my chances!?
are there any ringtone managers that u know if that i can try, perhaps that will stop windows misbehaving!

you can try ringo http://ringomo.com/
I store the MP3s to be used as ringtone in the root of the mini SD and I have no problem.
thanks all - am using Ringo and all is well for now!
The same happened to me
The same problem happened to me i know it's due to the new player i installed but i can't get it back to the default option ...any ideas?
I found the solution to this problem
I managed to solve this problem setup the PHM Registry Editor program
download it from this website
http://www.phm.lu/downloads/download.aspx?{940B734A-C437-41C7-ADED-2A4418802FD3}
after installation ...open the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (Keys)
Then open the .mp3 then click on values
-open the default string file
-change the value data to mp3file (i found it was avifile so it's obvious that WM can't open it as it's mp3 not avi)
i hope this is useful for u
Thanks thundermind - I'm no longer having this problem after upgrading to WM6 however I have saved your solution for future reference
