Ok, flame away because this is probably posted elsewhere in the forum but I promised I searched and don't see it.
On my HTC Wizard (T-Mobile MDA) the 'messaging' app button has 3 white triangles and one dark triangle that I would swear looks like it's an LED light down there. Can anyone confirm this and advise if there are programs to take advantage of it? Mine has never lit up (assuming it is a light at all!)
In the end, I'd love if I could route the 'notification' smart key to a light up there for new mail so I stop losing my 'calendar' button all the time.
Thanks!
bump...
Ok, so nobody knows about this? Or am I just on crack and the only one who things that right black triangle on the mail envelope looks like a light?
LOL!
Ur seeing the light from the notification LEDS. I guess its probably reflecting off the PCB inside and coming thru the messaging button.
I hate to burst your bubble but it's not a light. My first phone had the dark corner but the second and third did not. And there are plenty of pix of the inside of the thing, you can see for yourself.

I tried looking in the forum for any info on the status LED next to the speaker on the front side but I don't see any posts on this. Is this LED supposed to flash or do something? On my HD it has never worked? Is it supposed to work?
I remember on my Artemis it would flash green for good reception, blue for bluetooth and red if the battery was low.

I may be wrong but i was under the impresion that this was a sensor rather than a LED.
No, that's entirely correct, it is the light sensor. The LED is in the power button.
the status led is on the power button on the top right hand side of the blackstone...the place u highlighted is a sensor as what scotia has point out..
I think that it is a proximity sensor used to blank screen when you put the phone on your ear to talk.
It's actually the light sensor used for when you have automatic display brightness enabled. When it's dark, it turns down the brightness... And when it's a sunny day it cracks it up. I am not sure whether it's used to blank the screen during a call... This seems to happen after a period of time has elapsed.
Gav
ok thanks for the info.
So does the power LED on the top side flash any color to show the status of the reception or does it only light up orange when it charges?
Thanks.
doesn't do anything for reception..although mine flashes green hen I have a message/email/reminder
pity though, a decent LED to show such things was probably high on everyone's wishlist
No, the HD is perfectly unobtrusive. On my last PDA the LED had to be tweaked to stop flashing.
Too bad this isnt a LED diode Since I got on my Diamond a light notification (on the bottom of device)... when I recieved new sms... now on HD there is no way I can figure do I have new sms or notification unless I turn the screen on. The only hardware flaw by mine opinion
When its lying down, I agree with you. Then I have to turn on the screen. However when its lying next to me I'm usually not in a place were I can't use my phone, so the sound is on anyway.
I actually think its quite good the LED is on the top, it's easelly visible when the phone is in my pocket. I just have to pull the phone up a little and look down to see the LED (no need to get it out and turn the screen on). I like it on the top, nice and discreet, and not anoying me when I'm looking at the device while using it.
Perhaps a combination would be nice? Front and top That would sattisfy most people I guess...
I have a CDMA Hero from sprint in the US and am wondering if it has dual LED notification lights. I have read in lots of places that it does but am wondering if it actually has dual LED since my notifications only light up the left side. From the dash 3G I remember that the LED on the left was an LED and the one on the right side that looked like an LED was actually the light sensor. I also know that the Hero is supposed to have a light sensor. Just curious, thanks for any help.
::crosses fingers and hopes for Dual LED::
I think (I don't have a Hero yet, I'm just going off the online documentation for it), that the trackball acts as the second indicator "LED", but there isn't one on the right side of the earpiece, only the left. The trackball flashes when you have an incoming call or a notification.
sounds like it's the other way round from the GSM one then...the GSM has the LED on the right and the light sensor on the left.
no Dual LED's
I also have a sprint hero. The left led is the only one that flashes. It doesn't change color either. And the track ball does light up if u turn it on in the settings. As for the second led on the top right, it is definitely the light sensor. U can test it for yourself by putting your finger over it, and watch the screen dim.....
the one on the right is the light sensor.. cover it and it goes dim.

The LED on the left will change color and flashing pattern depending on your battery life and whether you have notifications or not. No notifications, no light (at least from what I've seen). If you're low on battery, the light goes yellow, and if you're within the 10-15 min boundary or less for battery life, light blinks red.
Thanks for all your help and I didnt realize that I had auto backlight disabled must have done that the first day I was messing with it all, I see now how the sensor reacts to having a finger over it. I would have enjoyed dual LEDs up top but oh well. Any way to customize the color of notifications, tried the handcent but it doesnt affect the LED at all or the trackball light for that matter. Going to try missed call or sms popup later to see if I can get some better results.

I read somewhere the flashing trackball doesn't work on our CDMA Hero
That would make sense since I can't seem to get my trackball to flash, what a bummer. Hopefully we can get root or a software fix soon.
T-Mobile DASH 3G Led Indicator Lights
I have a T-Mobile Dash 3G. The left LED light is NOT flashing, and I would prefer that it does. I upgraded to WM 6.5 and I think that is what disabled the LED since I have seen videos on youtube where the indicator does flash.
The LED does glow orange and green when i am charging though.
Err I think you may have the wrong forum. This is for the HTC Hero, which runs Android not WM. Why not try starting your own thread in the correct Forum as you are more likely to get an answer there?
Has anyone tried to get an led enabled trackball to work? I'd be way more than interested and willing to do it myself.
I don't think that there is a light under the track ball in the G1/Dream.
I have ordered a blue blackberry trackball with chrome face to swap out, but I doubt it's gonna light up.
There might be a little glow from the other leds on the daughterboard, but not enough to make a difference.
No go.
Have a red led trackball..wont light. Supposedly has to be programmed to happen but ROMS or apps with "led trackball" functions dont do it either.
I don't think the G1 is physically capable of doing this.
I have looked at the daughterboard.
The trackball for the blackberry 8300, and 8900 series are the same part.
If you look at the mounting on the blackberry, there is a led in the lower right corner of the mounting location.
I know this because I used transparent modeling paint to turn my blackberry 8320 track ball blue from the stock white.
I have since pulled that track ball and used it on the G1, but it looked like $#!^ so I ordered the blue one with chrome trim.
The mounting location on the G1 does not have anything in the led location of the blackberry. It's empty. No connections even for the led.
We can't turn on a light that has no bulb.
i saw a white light on the bottom corner on my xoom;s screen. is it for notifications?
Depends on how you hold it. The notification light is a white (supposed to be tri-color) line next to the Verizon logo.

right. i'm just confused as it rarely comes on. i think the only time it came on was when i was playing wordfeud with friends.
isn't it suppose to come on when i get IM or email or something?

My light pulses White every 2 seconds or so when I get an IM on Gmail Talk. Edit: Only when the screens off, btw.

Here are the steps I took to learn this information:
1) Read the labels on the film taped across the front of the Xoom's screen as it came from the box, where it's pointing to NOTIFICATION LED
2) Read the user manual
3) Use my common knowledge and history of using mobile, connected devices to understand that a blinking light means something new has happened or arrived on the device.
4) Post a question on the forum
I think this is my first post, but I gladly use it to point out how newbish you are to have to ask this question on the internet.

Thanks for being a jerk. You may also want to make sure that you have notifications turned on whatever apps you're using.
Top light to the left of the camera
There's another light, just to the left of the front-facing camera. Does anybody know what it does?
The light to the camera's right glows when the camera's on. But the light to the left doesn't seem to do anything yet. (And it's not listed in the manuals nor on the plastic pull-off screen protector.)
Judging from the iFixIt take-apart photos, I'm guessing it will light up when the Xoom is running 4G.
Anybody else know more?

WOW thanks for your reply!
1. the label was taken off by the verizon employee when it was activated so i don't know that there was a sign that pointed to it.
2. the user manual did not specify where the notification light for apps are only for the charging light.
3. i know it is used to notify if something arrived but like i said it DOESN'T light when i get IMs even when the screen is off.
4. it is posted on the forum!
thanks, but i don't need your sarcastic answers.

I'm fairly sure what you are referring to is a light sensor, for automatic brightness adjustments.
I actually had sorta the opposite problem in that I had the notification light going for seemingly no reason. Checked all apps and no notifications on bottom bar. Reboot solved but made me wonder what was up.

If you can't see the notification light it most likely has to do with your screen brightness. I thought mine was broken when it was so faint, so i cranked up the brightness and sent myself a test e-mail. When the screen was off the notification light pulsed incredibly bright, i turned it down repeated the test, and the notification light was really faint. Hopefully they can change that to where it's always bright no matter what the brightness of your screen is set at.

I assumed the notification light is only when the screen is off. Why do you need it when the screen is on? You can see all notifications in the lower right.
Also, lets not forget the notification light on the BOTTOM center of the tablet in landscape.
It only comes on if the device is OFF... its a battery charge light. Its 2 or 3 colors that change depending on the charge level.

What I'm saying is that the brightness of the notification light when your screen is off depends on the brightness your Xoom is set to. If you have your screen at 100 percent when its off the notification light will be very bright. However I had my screen quite dim and when it was off ans I received a notification, the light was almost nonexistent. You can test it for yourself. Its something that is hopefully fixed so that the notification light brightness is independent of the brightness your Xoom is set to.

Oh, I am sorry I misunderstood. I tested it at lowest brightness setting and the notification light is just as bright as full brightness for me.

Yeah, mine works now too, weird, I rebooted it so there must have been something wonky going on, but everything works now.
Whenever I have a black background, I can see light coming from the top right corner (top being the volume and power button). I just got this tablet today and notced it when i opened up the gallery. It appears to be a part the backlight for the screen. Does anone else have a light bleed or should I return it for a new one?
