Standby problem!! - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

ok ive combed these forums and couldnt find anything related to my problem
Well first off i have the cingular 8125 with the AKU2.3 rom installed
now i also have the phone's setting set so that the device goes on standby after 1 minute.
well my problem is that the phone does not go on standby after 1 minute
the backlight goes dim when its supposed to but not the phone at all. Everything was working normally and today i just noticed it when my battery was at 33% when i charged it last night.
GPRS,EDGE,WiFi all those are turned off at the moment anybody have any ideas?

In order for anyone to help, we need to know what programs you have installed, because most likely it's one of them causing the problem.

JasJar crashes at 35% battery power

Hello,
I need your help with the following problem:
I have been using my Jasjar for 5 days now and I have a problem with the battery.
As soon as it gets to 35-40% battery power the unit switches off without any notice.
The only way I can turn it on again if I put it on a charger, and than it turns on again like after a soft reset.
I installed the latest ROM from the clubimate but none 3rd party applications.
Please let me know what can be this problem.
Thanks,
Zsolt
same problem here
Hi Ronaldovic,
Have you tried with another battery or just the original?
I was advised to change the original battery as that might be faulty but I couldn't get a new one yet.
Zsolt
For the O2 XDA Exec the battery has a 6 month warranty. You should check the situation with the JJ
battery issues..
I had similar issue and also where on switch on the screen light goes off and back on. This seems to be linked to battery chargin "top-ups" therefore sometimes the supply from the battery is not continously smooth. Try fully draining your battery and charging fully
I have same problem with my Exec. Any solution ??
I buy new battery but...when it gets to 25%, still switch off. So I dont think it's error of battery, may be it's bug of ROM for Exec???

1 month ago I have same problem. I think is not battery.
I make upgrade by all the ROM (JAS JAR, QTEQ, MDA PRO ecc.) but the problem I have not resolution, and 2 week ago my pda (MDA PRO T-Mobile) go in htc warranty.
Sorry for my bad english.
I have also noticed this problem a few days back. My Jasjar switches itself Off when the battery goes down to 22%.
I never used to have this problem when my Jasjar was with the original factory installed ROM version which was 1.13.53 WWE, Radio 1.03, ExtRom 1.13.137 WWE. When this ROM was installed I used to get the first low battery alarm at 20% and when the battery went down to 10% the screen would dim out and the SD card would deactivate, but still the unit would not shut itself out.
I installed the updated ROM when it became available in March which is 1.30.76, Radio 1.09.00 and ExtRom 1.30.164 WWE.
I am not too sure if the problem is linked with this ROM as I usually never allow my battery to run that low. However a few days back when I forgot to charge my battery I noticed this problem. I repeated this deliberately a number of times and each time the Jasjar shuts itself off exactly at 22%.
Just wondering if there are any solutions yet.
Regards
Same here, device just dies @ 26%. Was going to buy a new battery, but that might not resolve it?? *sigh*
RE
This battery issue has been discussed in two other similar threads.
In my case I just changed the default battery to a OEM one and everything works fine
Isn't the default battery an OEM battery? I'm tempted to buy one of the 1750 mAh batteries off of ebay (original JasJar battery is 1650 mAh) - is that a bad idea?
Try overnight charging of the battery for one or two days..this will solve yr problems...
Hi,
hard reset to your device, don't forget to get backup contacts, sms and data.
battery issue
I've had similar issues. Screen goes blank when battery low, plug in to charger and all is ok. What I've found is sometimes, not always, the battery screen brightness has gone to 0, but on-mains is set for full brightness. I never changed it, so maybe the device is trying to save power itself.
MNB.
Same here. My Jasjar dies sometimes when the battery is on 60%, 50%, 30%, 20%. etc. If I use the internet or camera or something then it will go dead, but not everytime.
Sometimes I can use anything and it will last till about 10% when the SD Card disables, then I charge it.
Don't know what to do. I don't want to buy a new battery if I'm not sure that is the problem.
Yes the same on my O2 Exec. Crashes at around 32% no matter what. Only remedy is to put it on charging again.
This started after I upgraded to the lastest O2 Rom; prior to that there was no problem whatsoever and I could go down to single digit battery percentages without any issue.
Is it the new ROM? Is there any work around to this malady?
Thanks to all who reply, in advance.
Cheers.

So can we say that downgrading does not fix it, or removing certain software combinations?
has anyone actually proved that replacing the battery works or not?
With the issue this widespread (and across carriers) has anyone tried to contact HTC about this? I still have my doubts that this is ROM related, seems more likely to me that many of the initial batch of batteries have gone bad.
My battery is on order with expansy. Expect it in the next 4 to 5 days and will definitely let you all know of my experience with the new battery

XDA Exec almost drains its battery overnight.

I got an XDA Exec a couple of days ago to replace my XDA IIi.
Although the battery had its full 8 hour initial charge, I am having a problem whereby the battery is almost draining itself overnight. Two nights ago it went from 100% to 8% battery overnight. Last night (a short night for me, 2am to 6am), it went from 95% to 42%.
WiFi is OFF. BlueTooth is OFF. There are no programs running (that I know of). It's NOT waking up at midnight and then failing to switch off.
Any ideas before I return it to O2 as defective?
can only comment on mine.
if I'm at work I turn off the phone function as I get no signal and it constantly looking for a signal hammers the battery.
have you set your exec to turn off after so many min's ?
have you set you back light to a low setting.
I would expect to have to charge it every day.
Make sure you have used the Power Save options and also make sure you did not start the Camera app by accident as I found on my Exec this will drain the battery. Before you go to sleep do a soft reset and then see what happens to the battery (the soft reset will make sure all apps are closed).
If it cant get signal then it'll keep searching and drain the battery.
If you leave it connected to GPRS it uses alot of battery.
Check to see if its switching between GSM and UTMS because there is a weak UTMS signal in the room. I have this problem if i leave it on my bedside table, but if it put it on my desk, just a little higher up, it has enough UTMS signal to not switch between the two.
If its a case of not having enough signal then you'll either need to leave it plugged in over night or turn on flight mode.
HTH.

Remember that just cos you close a program it doesn't mean it's not running anymore. Check in start-settings-system-memory-running programs to see what's running in the background. I find that if Internet expolrer is running (even if it's not visible) it absolutely kills the battery. The same goes for IM/chat programs but I bet it's Internet explorer...
ps - not sure how experienced you are - to exit a program from the place I describe above - click on the program and press stop.
I had this exact problem when I upgraded to the latest ROM version. Try updating the Radio ROM to version 1.06 (its available on this forum somewhere). This fixed my problem and I'm sure it will fix yours as well.

I agree ... this issue started with 1.08 and higher

Battery dies in less than 24 hours.

Hi guys.
My wizard battery lasts less than a day. I hardly use it. Wifi and other radio are off most of the time.
I tried changing ROMs, radio roms etc. I even got a new battery but to no effect.
Any help ?
I had that problem until I found out that activesync was staying active even after I unplugged the cable. I never found a way to keep it from doing that though so now I just make sure activesync is shut off wheneve I disconnect it. Kind of a pain, but it beats the battery dying on me.
Well ill make sure Activesync is off.
But do you think the problem would persist even after I changed roms!
It did on mine. It's something to do with activesync itself apparently. It doesn't stay on as often as it did when I was using T-mobiles ROM, but it still does it occasionally.
make sure your extrom is ok, because a corrupt extrom is also a cause of battery drainage, better yet there was a rom floating that only erases your extrom (blankextrom), i forgot who made it but its from the wizard forums
found it, go to post number 7, look at the sig below there is a link for the blank ext rom, enjoy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311225
guys, please take a look at here, i think we have the same issues, but i have the t-mobile wing (htc herald):

Maybe your battery is bad. Buy a new one on Ebay for small cost. I bought mine for like 7 euro`s including shipping (battery itself was € 3,5). Also disable mail fetching every few minutes.

i tried two different NEW batteries straight from tmobile and the problem persists. and mail checking is on manual, which means only when I click send/receive
I'm pretty sure mine was caused by activesync running even though it wasn't connected because ever since I started making sure it wasn't running after disconnecting it from the cable my phone hasn't had that problem at all.

i end-tasked (closed) activesync from running in my phone when i went to sleep, and when i woke up i lost 50% battery again, (with all radios off)
Some programs can drain the battery. As an example, I really like PhoneAlarm, but it drains the battery tremendously, I think it's because it polls different system parameters. This polling causes the battery drainage.
Also, the way to stop activesync from turning on by itself it to create an exchange server account. I use mail2web, it’s free. After you set up the account on the phone, when you go to the activesync menu, hit schedule, then set it up for manual.
After I set this up, I never have a problem with activesync. You can do a Google search to get the step-by-step directions on how to set it up.
Also, charge the battery with the wall power cord, try not to use the USB power. Each one uses different circuits in the wizard. I also let the battery drop below 10% before I charge it. My battery lasts about 4 days.

Like calouro said, there are other programs that can drain a battery pretty quick, mine happened to be activesync. Since you shut it off and you still get battery drain then yours must be a different one, possibly a today plugin if you didn't have any other apps running in the background.
Just had a thought, you don't have any today plugins such as weather panel that are set up to update over gprs on a regular basis do you? If you're turning your radio off and it can't update it may be trying over and over to update and draining your battery.
no i don't have any today-addon or plugins, i have batterystatus installed but this problem persists even without batterystatus and it does this even after a fresh HARD reset, which tells me this is a manufacturer's program or hardware causing this flaw, i'm not the only one with this problem, there are others, look at our discussions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319897
Yah, I read that post. Did you try not turning off the radio over night and see if that sloved the issue?
I've changed batteries. Using a brand new one now.
No active today plugins or anything else. Dont even have activesync running. Made sure I exited that. Still no help!
how did you flash?
i think it may be extrom prob, as someone said earlier. if you are flashing with shelltool, extrom(corrupted or not) is not replaced, when its broken, shelltool rom change will not help.
second thing is "fake connection" for activesync to stop it from turning on and on in searching of sync.
third thing is using soft, that is waking up/keeps machine awaken somehow...
xeno1 said it all before...
i think it may be something installed from good extrom too(extrom holds programs which are installed after first boot)....
one more thing:
after >60 flashes i noticed, that level of battery while flashing may be reason of fast nrg loss.
If it was 50%, machine(even charged to the max after flash) drops fast to 50% then drop slows down - wise thing is to let it discharge to ~5-9%, then charge to the max. After 1-2 such operations battery is ok.
It is useful, even if battery was full(machine "learns" about battery as it is new - sth like that).
there are no miracles.
sorry for funny english..
HEre's something funny that happened.
Before flashin a blank extended rom I had 73% battery. Once the flash was over I had 100% battery.
Now I'm tryin to drain the battery with backlight and phone and wifi continously on. Once that is done, I hope things will get better. I'll keep posted with what happens.
Even after a full recharge, the battery now doesnt last even 12 hours. And this is me not using the phone at all. It's just been switched on and kept that way.
And no thebacklight doesnt stay on, or the phone doesnt stay on (it goes into the standby mode as it should)

yea if i don't turn off the cellular radio then the battery only loses about 1-2% overnight (9 hour sleep).

Battery running out over night

Hey
My battery is emty every morning, and phone turned off. That is if the battery is under approx. 70-80% in the evening. Is it just a bad battery?
Anybody seen this problem before.

Do you turn on the "Microsoft Direct Push" ?
When this feature is turned on, I also appeared that you have encountered a similar situation, but only consumes 40-50%
where can i check that, cant find it!! I have spb 3

Look at your "Comm Manager"-"Microsoft Direct Push"
Found it. No its set to off, so thats not it. Maybe ill try a hardreset!
But thanks for the help

hello
i have the same problem for 2 or 3 months now and i did not find a solution.
i bought a new battery but it did not help.
did you found a solution?
marbon
There is always a solution
Your device must have enabled the "turn off device" timeout (aka suspend timeout)
Don't let your device check your emails too often (once an hour is more than enough).
Use Advanced Config to enable GPRS disconnection timeout.
Don't let TF3D check for webpages updates too often.
Don't let RSS reader check for updates too often.
If your device has Wifi turned on all night, check if it turns off while your device is in suspend mode.
And of course, carefully choose applications that run in background - some of them may prevent your device from going to suspend mode.
(suspend mode is the most power-saving mode)
no, havent found the solution yet

Simply put your phone on charge and leave it like that for as long as you possibly can for as much of the time as you can.
Do not run a discharge cycle. Do not try to 'condition' the battery and as soon as you can recharge from an available power outlet.
I get 1.5 days from this and I would suggest that you should get the same.

What happen if you switch off your smartphone ( be carefull ....not suspend mode!)? Is the battery still draining?
Have you check the current delivered by your battery during your ''night stand by''?
The objective is to check if there is any extra leakage current in the main circuit board.

It should not be draining when it's off, it's should actually go up (happend to me).
Hi, i have had my TD2 for nearly 2 weeks and last night i had a similar issue, however my phone was not turned off it was in sleep mode.
Charged battery to full at around 5 p.m went and stayed at my girlfriends and when i woke up this morning the battery was dead, came home plugged in the charger and got no charging light.....oh dear i thought.
So i removed the battery and the sim blew on the contacts etc to remove any possible dust put it back together and now i get a charging light and all seems to be charging ok.
The only thing i did different yesterday was that i went on google maps for the first time and selected the use gps option so it was seeking satellites, when i exited google maps i made sure it was not running in the background.
Im just wondering wether it was still using power to search for sattelites as in my information screen in power it says i have had 8 hours standby and 10 hours 52 mins device usage and i know that is not the case.
To the OP >> Maybe check in your google maps to see if you have use gps selected?
I had same problem after I flashed my phone with new radio 4.48.25.13, after that I used some other raido rom and the problem was gone.
I had the same thing happen, but only once, it was after I was using a gps app in the evening, I had problems with it, it locked up and I terminated it instead of closing it, I assume the gps stayed on and drained the battery in short order.
Hi, no i have not turned the GPS in google maps on, so thats not it. Still trying some different things to narrow it down. Its not every night now, so maybe i have been lucky.....
Same story here...
In my case even worst. I got my TD2 last friday morning. The same afternoon I inserted a new microsd card with zorro-gps installed. The day after, while I was driving with the gps turned on, the phone died. I've thought it was running out of battery, but when i plugged the charger in, I could not see the red led turn on. So I had to remove and reinsert the battery in order to see the led work properly...
Unfortunately from that point the phone is not working properly anymore. While in use it dies and I cannot restart unless I remove and reinsert the battery. The problem is that this happens every 10 minutes...
I'm trying to contact the HTC support, but they are very elusive. They asked for my phone number and they said will call me back...
Did you guys try to change the batteries and see what happen?
No, didnt change the battery. Because its not every night i dont think the battery is the problem. And further more, it began about a month ago ( td2 is approx. 3 month)
FedeR1 maybe you should try hard reset!

If you are talking about Spb mobile shell 3.0.1 then this is a reason of the power drain.

Random Shutdown

When my phone is sitting idle (screen off) it will randomly decide to power itself off. Has anyone else noticed this? Any ideas on what could be causing it?

you mean randomly power itself ON, right?
if that is the case, it's normal, it just mean it woke up to connect to the internet, to get updates of news, emails, or whatever it was scheduled to pick up
nope. i mean it randomly turns itself off. this topic is being discussed over on the att captivate galaxy forum section.
interesting, so it's going from stanby mode, to complete OFF... nope never seen that happen to my i9000 model
yep totally powered off... completely sucks... looks like there are a bunch of ppl that have this issue with the captivate on att. $10 says its some lame piece of software that att puts on your phone that's causing the problem.
it's possible, i've read here a few users having crazy power issues (battery draining very fast) with their SGS i9000, but after wiping it out clean, to start anew, then the power problem is gone away.
so yes, a software could cause something weird like that.
Factory reset and so far so good
Hey guys,
I use a Galaxy S here in Hong Kong and I had the same random shut down issue constantly happen when my screen went off...
I tried everything, check temperature of cpu, etc. etc. and nothing worked, it just got worse and worse.
I even changed the battery to use the spare one that came with this. Still problematic.
Used SET CPU to limit the cpu to 400mhz, still problems.
Finally I did a factory reset and so far so good.
I only have the original system installed with the Remember the Milk app installed.
24 hours, no problems.
Installed AppBrain app.
Then I installed 3G WatchDog
12 hours, no problem.
Then I installed Paperdroid
12 hours, so far no problems at all.
If I run into an issue I'll post it here. But I think it definitely was a software issue.
Update - it randomly shut down on me
Alright guys, it shut down on my randomly today in the afternoon......
I dont know if it's the re-charging that screwed it up?
Because after my factory reset, last night was the first time i charged it....
Hmmm
This happened to me too - two days in a row until noon it would shut down two or three times - i uninstalled SetCpu and for now (24 hours) it hasn't happened again. I am not sure if it was the one responsible but it started happening after i installed two programs and i uninstalled them after it started happening. I uninstalled Visual Task Switcher first but on the next day it turned off again, then i unsinstalled SetCpu and it hasn't happened again - maybe some wrong profile settings but i didn't feel like experimenting
I had this issue once too in about 40 days.
I was reading an sms and then i turned into standby and put it in my pocket. Later, maybe 40 minutes i came home and my phone was completely off. I do not remember if i had to take out the battery before to get it on again.
I was wondering why it happened. Maybe it was caused by an app i had opened. Battery still was at 40%.
But since it only occured once in 40 days i doesn´t bother me.
Interesting you mention this as it just happened to me today for the first time. I took it out of my pocket and wtf? The phone was off. Very strange... Using the i9000 on the stock Eclair rom.
Should send back for warranty
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
software clash?
Well the phone suddenly switched off for me, but this time I turned off APPBRAIN and so far so good.
In fact, I came across an app called NoLED and since it kind of keeps ht phone on, while I have it on my desk, I'm able to be notified of stuff and so far with that, the phone hasnt' shut off.
I'm still experimenting with what works, but try turning off AppBrain and see if you still have the random shut off issue....
i use app brain all the time to keep my apps in sync
not the cause of the problem, that's for sure
my phone can last a whole day even with app brain running
OP, do you have MSN Talk installed on your phone? I have this same problem, seems to happen more when I am running MSN talk in a low signal area.
«try a new sim card. «Could be faulty. «i am on my 3rd phone and all of them had this same problem. «i bought a new sim card 4 days ago, and hasnt happened since. «but then again, this problem usually happens to me once every 3rd-5th day anyways, so i dont know if i am in the clear yet.
Me too, shutdown everyday
Hi guys
After upgrade OS to I9000ZSJG4, Phone random shutdown everyday.
Yep still shuts down
Tried keeping AppBrain off, still shuts down.
Used NoLED so the screen kind of stays on, still shuts off..
So far shut off on me after 40 hrs... this is really stupid.
I am this close to taking it back, but I genuinely think it's a software issue than a hardware issue...sigh
Anyone have any luck figuring this out?
Same problem no solution yet
Hi
I too have the same problem, haven't found any solution yet.
The temperature etc is all good, there is no pattern in shutdown issues.
I have tried factory reset and no new application, it still shut down while using in built browser.
I had the same thing happen to me while skiing in Whistler last weekend. It died twice. I attributed it to the cold. I normally use a 3000mah battery up there, but left it back the house that day. Afterwards while charging in the car and even charging it at home it died prematurely again. It was the eBay aftermarket variety 1500mah knock off. I have since changed back to the Samsung OEM battery. I haven't had an issue with it since. My assumption is that the knock offs in my case cannot handle the heat cycles of charging and then the cold as well as the original. Or they have a limited lifespan, well below OEM specs. I am now only using the 3000mah battery on the weekends to hedge my bet on the quality of manufacture, as it seems to be from the same factory as the 1500.
