I'm guessing it's so he can receive calls silently but still be able to use the device for playing game or watching a film etc. Nothing worse than concentrating on something on the device (game, film) and being startled by the ringtone you use because you've got the system volume somewhere near max!
i need the blank mp3 file so that i can set it as my default ringer so i dont hear calls from people i dont wanna talk to.. i plan on setting custom ringers for the people i do normally talk to.. everyone else can go to voicemail for all i care.. i need a .mp3 .wma or .wav blank file
go to notepad....file >save as...(all file types)....*.mp3
doesnt work.. errors out
k i made a wma if neone wants it :x
also here is the .wav file
Why not edit the ringer profile, I can't remember the reg keys off hand, something like this:
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=208366&view=findpost&p=593269
Alternatively - load sndrec32 on your pc, record for a second and save as format mp3.

THANKS ALOT MASTER.
IT WORKS VERY WELL.
Not working for me. Installed, no error messages, but I still can't use mp3's as ringtone. Actually in file manager mp3's are not associated with any programs. Could someone give any help?
you dont need anything to set a .mp3 as a ringtone, just place the mp3 file in the rings folder under windows and go to the tone selection screen and it will be there.
PLACE MP3 FILE IN FOLLOWING FOLDER
\\My Device\Windows\Rings
then do this
Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications(on bottom)
Then Event:.. scroll down to Phone: Incoming Call then tap the drop down box by ring tone and it will be there.
There should deffinately be a FAQ sticky for this kinda stuff

So it can't be done without placing the mp3 in the ringtones directory? In deed it's not working for me that way either. I can see the mp3 on the list, but after choosing and pressing an OK, it sets itself back to windows default. Actually I can't use anything else than windows default. I'm really getting mad, plz help! Where is the file associations menu? Maybe there's some problem there. This thing is messed up since I've installed and uninstalled winamp...
Work great on wm2005 1.60b
Man i dont know is if its the program or the windows itself..but under the settings of notifications all my mp3 is listed ..which i never knew!...this is GREAT!

It would appear that by default mp3 ringtones are allowed, however once you install a third party app to play mp3's (you mention winamp) you lose the ability to use them(it seems that the Media player engine is used for this).Uninstalling the app makes no difference, you then have no mp3 player because the mobile version of windows does not restore the file association. The best way round this that I have found is to simply use an audio app (Nero wave editor in my case) to convert/edit the mp3s to wma. This has the bonus that most mp3 tracks are too long for a ringtone (how many phones ring for 3-4 minutes without kicking in the answering service ?) so when you convert you can also reduce the length.
I cant comment on the set ringtone cab posted here, never tried it, it may work
HTH
I am able to install the cab file without any error message but still can't use mp3's as ringtone. The mp3 file appears in the Sound and Notification drop down list, but whenever I select the mp3 file and try to play, it doesn't play and return back to Windows Default ringtone. Can anyone tell me that what is the problem?

The same problem I have. Also I don't think so that the easiest way to solve it is to convert each of my mp3's to wma or whatever. Somehow there should be a way to restore the file associations. Maybe if someone would have a media player to install (re-install) that could solve it. The problem is that I've also lost my former ringtones.
Have a look at this thread here. Ive just downloaded the files but not tried em yet. Seems to be able to restore file associations so that WMP becomes your default player. This should then allow you to use mp3's as ringtones

GO TO START/SETTING/PERSONAL/PHONE (AND SELECT YOUR MP3 FROM THERE).
CHEERS,
YAARUB
So the file associations are normal again, thx to your help. But how can I set an mp3 as ringtone which is stored on the sd card other than copying it to the ringtones folder as it takes far too much space from the main memory? The settings-ringtones does not find the mp3 files either on the sd or in the system memory, only wavs and mids.
@Szilu
I'm afraid there is no other choise but to copy the mp3 ringtone to the main memory.
Im sorry
That's a pity. Anyway can you suggest any programs then to cut mp3's to smaller pieces? As 4 minutes is far too much thus the size can be shrinked. THX for your kind help.
Try "Sound Forge", But im not sure if it support mp3 files or .waqv only, their you can cut the file to small pieces.
good luck.
I have tried umpteen times to get my ppc6800 to see the new mid. files loaded onto my phone, i do not know when there is a new text until its too late to reply,
I put the mids in windows folder, ring folder and every where else, still the drop down list does not show them. HELP ME PLEASE , before i revert to my caveman tactics of beating this thing into the rocks until it makes me smile!!
WHY would anyone, anyone put out a phone, that by default has only a smigent of a notification to let u know that u have a text or e-mail?? I would understand if u could make it repeat, and or LOUD, but u have a better chance of hearing a nat fart than u have of hearing their default sound!
So if anyone out there has fixed the problem and would like to share the answer, PLEASE help me..
Put them in documents and settings.
I just tried that
Thank u for ur reply, i did as u said, even soft started, and two wav files showed up, in the drop down menu, but they make no sound.

Are you trying to use it for the ringtone or the reminders/alarm?
For ringtone it should work. But for reminders and alarm you can only use .wav files. and you should put the wav file in windows folder.
I put all of my MP3's into the Ringtone folder and they work fine. For alerts and txt msgs I put the .wavs or .mp4 files into the Windows directory and they work.
Maybe it doesn't support midi?
Use QuickTime and export your MIDI files to WAV. That's what I do.
Not to be an @ss, but why use midi when you can use mp3's?
Possibly because there are many songs out there that were produced purely as Midi files. Or maybe the guy composes his own stuff on Midi?

Because MP3's are much slower to start playing.
If you load a Midi or WAV it'll play right away, mp3's can take 2 or 3 seconds to start playing.
randomly my ringtones will stop working. i dont have the volume on mute. i have to either go into the sounds menu and select a different ringtone and then go back to the one i was using or do a soft reset. its kind of annoying to do so. i just got my wing yesterday and ive had this happen to me twice now. has anyone experience this problem? also i was wondering if there is a way to stop the SMS/MMS ringtone from playing the whole ringtone even if i dismiss the message? i know i can just make the ringtone shorter but if there is a way to stop the ringtone, id much rather do that. thanks in advance.
I have this same problem with my t-mobile wing when I use an mp3 for sms tones, after a few messages it goes silent, I tried placing mp3 in windows folder but eventually it still goes silent, hopefully someone has a fix
yes exactly. only when I use a mp3 is when this problem occurs. hopefully there is a tweak or something to fix this
anyone have a solution?
i have the same problem and i've been having to do soft resets...pain in the butt
has anyone came up with an answer to this problem? i lived with it when i first got my wing, but now it has caused me to miss a few important text messages and what not from my girlfriend and other people.
I placed my .mp3 file in the windows folder and hit refresh then closed file explorer and assigned that .mp3 to my messages. It worked for a while but eventually it still goes silent so this is just a longer temporary fix. I'm still looking for a permanent fix

mine is saved to the phone. its the only way the ringtone will show up in the ringtones list for me to choose it.
It Think That It Might Be A Reg Tweak For This Ill Do Some Looking Around After I Get Outta Work
Same here...
I have the same problem as well. I've searched for registry fixes but I've found none. I've converted all of my sms rings from .mp3 to .wav and i haven't had a problem since. But .wav takes up a lot more space. Is this a problem with any other roms or just the t-mobile stock rom.
oh i didnt think about changing them to wav. ill try that.
what did you use to convert to .wav?

Cheetah Audio Converter for your pc. Move them to your desktop with ActiveSync, convert them, then copy them back.

thanks i'll try this when I get off work
i use audacity to convert to wav and to chop the songs up. anyways using wav instead of mp3 has seem to solve the problem!
How do you add a new ringtone under new messages? When I receive a message I would like it to play a ringtone of my own. Any ideas?

Just so I don't mess up and end up with files all over the place would that be;
Explorer>Windows>Rings ?
I know it sounds simple but I can mess up even the easiest jobs on these things!
Matt
You can put them in 'Internal Storage\My Documents\'
Then you don't have to worry about the space
I cna't tell you how much that has been annoying me and yet the answer when it came was so simple... a bit like me!
Matt
PS And it works with my ringtone as well... thus freeing up the space on my device memory! You know, I sometimes wonder how I get through the day without hurting myself!!!
I place the files in 'Internal Storage\My Documents\'rings or music
so I don't waste space and it's all well set!!
I have two problems with this:
1. Storing ringtones on the Internal Storage makes them show up in the Music tab! No thanks I don't want to listen to ringtones when playing my music, is there a way to stop this other than keeping them on My Device memory?
2. The topic is actually regarding message tones and not just ringtones and I cannot see any of my files to select for a meesage tone. They are MP3 files which work fine for ringtones.
Does this phone not allow MP3s to be used for messages?

1. Don't use the TF3D music player!!
2. I have no problems with mp3 message sounds... and I have them in 'Internal Storage/my Documents'
I quite like the TF3D player actually and I'd rather use the built in one than go to run another app especially as I use a stereo BT headset and press play on that which automatically starts the TF3D player.
I've put loads of MP3 files in Internal Storage\My Documents\MyRingtones and while they all appear ok for actual ringtones I can't see a single one for use as a message tone, only the default files are there.
Is there a size, bpm, frequency limit or anything?
Anyone else managed to use MP3s for message tones?

In order to use mp3 ring tones for mssg tone u need to put them in the root directory of internal Storage it works fer me like a charm....
Cheers
cut and paste the file in windows then u can go back to ur sound settings
Thanks for the replies putting it in the root has worked though it's a little untidy. I've also found that My Device\Application Data\Sounds is a working location. I thought I'd already tried that but obviously not
While we're on the ringtone topic, has anyone found a way to store mp3 ringtones on Internal storage and NOT have them show in the TF3D Music Library?
I'm wondering whether removing the ID tags from them would work though unfortunately I don't have anything to do that with where I am at the moment, I'll try tonight.
Just to update to this, removing MP3 tags doesn't work and the file alone is still recognised and included in the TF3D player.
Are there any locations on internal storage which WILL show up for selection as ringtones but NOT in the music player?
MP3 ringtone
you can place a mp3 file anywhere on your phone and then tap and hold and set as a ringtone. i belive this does automaticly move it to the phones memory tho as well as being on the extra storage.
hey anyone knows how to download mp3s from your phone
ps: i dont no if this is the good place to ask this im srry if it isnt im new thats y

Assigning vibration to a specific contacts text messages and calls
Hi, sorry if this does not belong here, I think it is at least related . Does anyone know if there is an option (can not find it in the settings of the touch diamond) or tweak which would assign vibration to a specific incoming text message? Meaning: when I turn down the ring tone not to be disturbed acousticly, I want the phone vibrate only when one specific contact calls or sends text message. Thanks to all for any ideas
Alright well i searched around and i couldnt really find anything.
I use a .wav song for my text messages and its getting a little annoying now because it plays the whole thing every time i get a text message...
Is there any way that i can stop the music once i hit a key just like a regular phone would?
--- I use an ATT Tilt.---
there is a program called mp3 trimmer. I would suggest converting your .wav to an mp3 and trimming it down to a much shorter length, like 10 seconds or somethign like that. I am not sure if mp3 trimmer will work with .wav files. You should then be able to save the new file to the ringtones folder, select that tone from the list of tones for when you get a txt, and wallah you have a new short ringtone.

but seriously, MP3Trimmer would be your best bet. If you have Audio Manager, you might already have it (it's inside Audio Manager)
good luck
in order to get the ringtone to stop playing you have to pres the red end call key. i have an tilt also and thats what i do to stop my ringtone and it works everytime
