Playlists in Windows Media

Hi
I have all my songs on my storage card. I can play them fine directly from the storage card, going through the file explorer.
However they dont work when in windows media and using the playlists, even though I can see them all. I get the error message "Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the player does not support the format you are trying to play"
Any ideas??
Thanks
HPJ
I've given up on Windows Media and now use TCPMP for playing my audio files. One of the main reasons I dislike Windows Media is because it's such a pain to create playlists. It seems like they went out of their way to make it difficult. TCPMP let's you create playlists on the device very easily. My audio files are a mix of mp3s and .wma files and it plays them all just fine.
TCPMP also plays lots of other media types, but that's all I'm using it for at this point.
And it's free! (Though you can give a donation if you find it useful )
You can also try WinamPAQ v1.0 Beta[/url]. Also free, if you used Winamp on the PC before, this is a fine copy. Works great also.

windows media player mobile reg edit.

I installed some sh!tty player on on my precious wizard, then removed it. Now I can't open my media files with wmplayer. I mean I can open them from the inside of the player, but not when I browse them from file explorer. I looked for reg edit command to change the program media files open with, but now luck? Anybody knows how to do this?
Also I cannot seem to get my image vieweing thing to do a slideshow.
Thanks -Greg.
Just choose the file you want to play in file explorer and then click menu-->open path-->new path and direct it to WMP in the windows folder. After that, all of your files of the same type should open with WMP again, atleast that's how you fixed it in WM2003 anyway. I haven't had to try it in WM5 or WM6 to know for sure.
I don't know about the slideshow thing though, I've never used that before.

The crappy player you installed was associated with (wav) files that are for windows media player. Try re-installing that same player, look at its file associations, uncheck (wav) may have kept settings after removal, and then remove the player again if you still don't want it. soft re-set, check files in file explorer, and if all the above actuated, the files should have the wmp icon. Word of advice from experience....always remove settings from programs that were installed before you remove that program. As far as slide show, are you meaning where songs play in sequence (queued up)? By the way, what was the crappy player? I've removed a few of them myself..
hey guys thanks much for replies. Xeno I couldn't get the path thing to work. If I type in \windows\wmplayer.exe it just opens player in library mode, doesn't change the way it opens either. The player was pocket dvix player. I was looking for something that will play AVI dvix and xvid files. Now I installed something called TCPMP pocket pc player and it works very very well.
TCPMP is way better than WMP anyway. Sorry the open path didn't work, but like I said, I wasn't sure if it still worked that way or not in WM5 and 6. Atleast now you have a better media player. TCPMP is the only player I ever use.

Media Player question

I've read a lot of good stuff about synchronizing the Windows Media Player 10 with the HTC Tynt (WM6). However, I do not seem to be able to view the nice album covers which i can see on my desktop PC.
Do I need to download some special skins to do this for the mobile media player???
regards,
This works effortlessly and without any "special" steps for me. Although I am using windows media player 11 for the Desktop. What is your entire process for placing and playing files? Are you doing the following (which I do personally)
1) Sync music under windows media player itself, not copying files over through explorer.
2) On Pocket Windows Media Player, update your library via menu
3) Under pocket windows media player, play your music through the library itself, as opposed to individually through file explorer.
Yes, exactly how I do it. The music is synchronized and plays well but the main media player screen does not show anything except the usual stuff like title, rating (stars)...
I also use Windows Media Player 11 and on the PC, I can see the album cover without problems.
Just tried it again and once again it worked fine for me. What rom are you using?

Any idea how I can get my files to open with WMP?

My video and music files open with HTC album by default, any idea how I can change them to open with windows media player automatically?
I have this problem too. As best I can work out you have to load the files via WMP on the desktop (using syncronize to a mobile device) If you do a simple copy using file manager WMP on the HTC wont pick them up.

help please

i have a sandisk 16 gb microsd
my hd2 is in disk drive mode
i want to copy music to my hd2
this is the problem every time i try i can play 3 or 4 number from an album , the rest is unreadable or something like that
i tried mp3,wmv files
nothing helped
my card is fat32 formated
format through pc and hd2
nothing helped
try using activesync mode
settings->menu->all settings->connections->usb to pc->active sync
then go to my computer find your phone go to storage card and copy the files, perhaps this will make a difference.
The way I copy media files is by connecting via ActiveSync as jfmckenna says, then using Windows Media Player on the PC to sync my media files. This is easy if you use Windows Media Player as your main player on the PC.
After connecting your HD2 via ActiveSync, just whack up Windows Media Player and click on the 'Sync' tab near the top of the program, then just drag your music/media from the library on your computer to the 'Sync' column.
If you have files which aren't already in the library, just drag them from Windows Explorer into the library of Windows Media Player. The best bit is usually Windows Media Player will convert the file on the fly when syncing if the media file isn't compatible with your phone.
Hope this helps!!
personally i've had nothing but trouble using active sync or media player to copy music. the only way i transfer it now is by connecting in hard disk mode then drag and drop directly.
just goes to show what works for one doesn't for others.
