Dopod 818 - SD Transcend 4GB 150 X - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi to all,
Is not nice to tell you I got a big problem with my Dopod and mi SD, since both get married (Dopod and Transcend) they don't have a good communication skills, I mean, the Dopod with the lasted ROM, erase folders on my SD. Why I said that, simple, yesterday I was tesying for a lot of hours, I tryed with a 1GB and have the same problem.
Now I totally sure the SD are right, I formated both in my laptop and then on my device with the Pocket Mechanic.
Any one else have the same problem?
Thank you in advance for your always help.

I'm using Dopod 818Pro with lastest ROM and SD Card Transcend 4GB (150x). All good, No problem. I'm very happy (Used 3 months)

Thanks a lot for your comment.
Still having the same problem and I didn' find a solution yet. Probably is badly program I have installed? Virus?

Qtek S100 or S110?

HI,
This is my first post as I have not yet purchased this device and needed some advice before buying. In fact I am contemplating between the Qtek s100 and the s110. I know that essentially the only difference is the upgraded memory from 64mb to 128mb and the colour. I was also told despite the fact that the 2 devices are identical (apart memory) the 128mb version runs a bit faster because of the added memory. Is this true?
I already have a 1Gb sd card and plan on using it for storage and installing programs. Will the extra memory come in handy once I start installing programs? I currently own a palm E2 and the programs in the Palm OS are pretty miniscule, in the pocket pc is it the same or will I need several mb per application? I did test out the s110 and it seemed to function pretty fast (compared to my E2) , I inserted my sd card and was able to view pics and video impressively quick with the installed beta player.
Another issue is the price. Here in Paris I am able to sign a 1 year contract with SFR and buy the s100 at a discount phone shop for 120Euros!! and the s110 for 180-200Euros. Is it worth the extra 60-80euros for the added memory? Perhaps it would be better to buy the s100 and with the extra cash invest it in a sdwifi card? Or wait altogether for a newer device such as the qtek 9100.
Also I read in another post that it may be possible to upgrade the m500 (orange) to windows mobile 5 in the future and if that being the case would the 128mb of ram be more usefull?
And is it quite easy to flash the unit to change the language from french to english if i decide in the future?
Other than that, what does everyone think of the magician? They just released the qtek 9100, with the sliding keypad but i dont see it being that great an avantage as it adds weight and maked the unit a bit thicker, taking away the advantage of it being a real portable unit. Included wifi obviously would be the biggest advantage, and of course mobile 5 (perhaps).
I know I've asked many questions here and appreciate any advice. I'm sure no matter what decision I make I wont really go wrong but just trying to invest in a tool that will at least meet my needs and stay current for at least a year before its outdated!!!! Thanks for any help and advice in advance!
The S110 is the better choice for sure. I use one myself and yes, the 128MB of Ram make live really easy - I installed everything (all programs I use and thats a lot) into Ram still have 40+MB free for program running. I would install into RAM for sure on a S110, on a S100 you may want to do it on a SD-Card but I would not do that if it can be avoided and it can with an S110 (wow that rhymes). Trust me, you WILL thank god for not thinking about every MB twice - the S110 with its 128MB can handle everyhting. Never ever would I choose a version with less RAM when one with more is avail.
The other device you're talking about is the K-Jam (iMate calles it this way). I would stay away, the keyboard is useless (at least to normal users) and it only has a 200MHz CPU!
Flashing the Magician (like S100 or S110) is pretty easy, the other one (9100) is based on another hardware platform (TI CPU instead of Intel one) the it will take a while for modded Roms to arrive.
Wifi can be added to the S110 using a SDcard, you dont wifi all the time don't you. I would never choose the 200MHz device with wifi over the 416MHz without given the fact that wifi is an easy addon, more CPU power is not.
WM5 will not likely come for S110 but who needs it? I dont get all the fuss about WM5. I used it on a HTC universal for a few hours and its not that special. The new storage (that uses stone-age-speed ROM) will make it slower in fact.
Thanks for your advice.
I figured it can never hurt to have more memory. I just wasnt sure if the ppc used as that much in terms of applications compared to the Palm os which is negligible.
May programs are less than a megabyte. I have more than half a dozen loaded on my palm E2 and still have space left on the paltry 32mb ram! Well wouldn't be the case with the magician.
I suppose the 128mb model (S110) also uses free space for caching, so if there is only 64mb vs 128 it would make a difference in performance. And the price difference of less than 100euros I guess is reasonable as its factory done.

Don't forget that the OS on the Magician is from Micro$oft who are notorious for memory-hungry OSs and applications on ANY platform. :?
The more memory the better.
One thing to consider is battery life. How does the 110 compare with the 100? Keeping that extra RAM alive requires power, and that has to come from the battery.
Any 110 users care to comment?
With normal useage I get about 2.5 days on my XDA Mini...
Qtek S110 + WiFi SD cards
Hello Everybody, need some advice...
Am new to mobile/PDAs and am thinking of buying the S110 but want to wifi enable it as well as store MP3s/AACs too ...
Sandisk do a WiFi SD card with 256mb built in - has anybody used one of these or know whether its compatible. Web research suggests it is but it would be nice to know it works [and its failures] from someone already using this type of connectivity.
Thanks

AFAIK WiFi/256MB sdio cards work in magician (search this forum for more about it), anyway pls consider the following:
- Sandisk is NO MORE producing WiFi/256MB cards (however they can be still found in some e-stores or ebay)
- 256MB is too small for carrying MP3
- This card is more than 1cm longer than ordinary SD cards so it will jut out from the top of your magician: it'll ruin device's esthetics and, possibly, led to card breaking
- Next month many new wm 5.0 devices will be released, they'll offer integrated WiFi, more powerful camera, EDGE, radio FM, 128MB of storage and, of course, windows mobile 5.0. If i were u i'd wait for them to come.
- If u can't wait a month, then have a look at new Qtek 9100 a.k.a. I-Mate K-jam a.k.a. SPV M3000 a.k.a. HTC Wizard: it comes with integrated WiFi, WM 5.0 and qwerty keyboard.
- If u still want a Magician, then i think u should consider buying a S100 (instead of s110) thus saving about 100$. I have it and, as long as u move all installed programs to SD card or storage, i can assure u RAM is enough for any application (IMHO, of course)
Bye bye,

Qtek S110 + WiFi SD cards
Thx Paul
so the bottom line is that its a bit of a lottery but the fact that SanDisk are pulling out of this market must mean its unlikely to get any better for the users, is that right?

all this makes sense. what I like about the S100/110 is its size - looks like I'll be waiting for the Prophet just like you.

Guys,
Here is a roadmap of HTC products for 2006.
http://www.mobigeeks.fr/stories.php?story=05/11/14/4058495
Unfortunately its in french but actually easy to follow.
I'm using the S110 now and had an MDAc before that and I must say that there is nearly no difference with keeping the 128MB RAM of the S110 alive opposed to the 64MB versions. I monitored that closely the last week and I must say the the difference is minimal, like getting 2-5% longer life with the 64MB version but the comfort of having more RAM than you'll prolly ever use makes more than up for that.
The thing with "waiting for the prohet": When the prophet is ready to launch there will be a new one in the pipeline that would be worth waiting for. There will always be a new/better one at the horizon and if you go that "I'll wait for that device" way you'll never buy one of them because you'll always look at the next model that appears better but is a few month away. That said I'm more than happy with my S110 (just bought the SpecTec Wifi and use it with the Socket driver and WiFi companion) and I'm loving it, I couldn't wish for more. Sure I miss the biometric feature of my old iPAQ 5455 but hey the S110 is great. Until the bring a S110 with fingerprint scanner I'm not interested. I dont need intergreated WiFi (the SpecTec makes up for that very well) and I dont need more CPU power (PHM can push the 416MHz up a noth if needed) and a keyboard (like KJam, I'm so used to Resco Keyboard Pro) and for sure I dont need WM5 (buggy slow OS in my view).
That said the S110 is perfect!!!

tomtom can not find the maps

Since I have upgraded my t-mobile varo with the 2.21.2.5 NLD ROM I have problems with my tomtom 5.21
When it starts everything goes fine until it has to find the maps. Tomtom freezes. I have the map on my mini SD card. When it's out, tomtom says that there is no map, so I think it knows where it is. I have tried different maps, but it all gives the same problem, so I know that the maps are fine.
I have think about it to go back to the old ROM, but I don't know how, and I am not sure if it helps.
Is there anybody who knows what to do for me?
it depends what sd card you have. I have found that the wizard has certain issues with sd cards just like the alpine used to have. I myself have a 2gb sandisk. I purchased a kingston 1gb for my wifes and had various problems with it on her phone aswell as mine but the sandisk worked great in both

I have a 512MB Mini SD Sandisk.
But before the ROM update, 2 days ago, I had no problems, everything works fine
As I can remember there must be a "do_not_remove.txt" (or somewhat like this) in root on the storage card - otherwise Tomtom will not search for Maps there...
could it be excidently deleted?
maybe this helps...

Never saw that file before. Can you be more specific? Do i need to put it in the benelux map? Where can I get that file? Not too big I think. Maybe someone can post it?
Thanx for responding!

can my xdaII hold up to 2Gb of memory card?! im planning to buy a 2GB SD but im not sure if its compatible with my xdaII
thanks..
Hi,
I have a Sandisk Ultra II, with 2GB working with my Qtek 2020, rom ver 1.72.
At first there was a little issue regarding the system not recognizing it, but formatting the card in the unit solved this.
Now I have a question regarding 4GB... Does anyone knows if this is possible.
Thanks and see you!
thanks for the reply!!
yeah, how about 4GB?

Problems with TomTom on Wizard/memory card

I have recently bought the TomTom5 application and have been able to install it no probs onto my wizard (actually an MDA Vario with a Mr. Clean flash ROM!).
The problems I am having revolve around the memory card. I have used a Moby 2gb mini-sd card for nearly a year and have encountered no problems. However the TomTom programme refuses to recognise it and load the maps from either of my computers.
Does anyone know why this could be? The TomTom people even provided a replacement CD but to no avail
Any help gratefully received

one more post about SD cards

Hey there, my first post here, I used search but either I made a bad search or there wasn't a clear answer to my question...
I've aquired recently a HTC 3600 (i think is what you call Trinity ...), wich already had a 1GB card on it from ScanDisk, and I recently upgraded the PPC to the latest official WM5 WWE upgrade (RUU_Trinity_HTC_WWE_1.23.405.2_103_6275_1.38.00.11_108_Ship.zip) and the TomTom thing, from the official site.
Now what I want know is, that is the max capacity and wich type of SD card, does my PPC support right now, without need upgrade to WM6 (for what i read, is not worthful ...)
I wanted at least 4GB card, but all 4GBs i find are SDHC wich i realy doubt 3600 support, and I found a post here ("SDHC Card Patch WM5 and WM6" working")
So is any way I can get a 4GB card, without require use that "fix" from that guy, or upgrade to WM6 ...
Thanks

Opinions differ with regards to this subject - and countless posts have been written about this.
In short: SD specification only allows up to and incl. 2Gb. Anything above 2 Gb is covered by the SDHC specification (SD 2.0). HOWEVER: Some manufactures have sold 4Gb cards using SD specs, so you can find 4Gb both in SD and SDHC. You can not be sure that your trinity accepts these 4Gb cards. Some 4Gb cards have even failed after several months of othervise OK useage.
I cannot remember to have seen a WM5 machine accept more than 4Gb cards.
Anything above 4Gb is only SDHC, and apparantly WM6 supports this (judging from the number of posts about Sandisk 8Gb microSDHC cards with adaptors).
There are many reasons to upgrade to WM6, this storage card issue beeing just obvious one...
