sms inbox takes forever to open - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

...about ~6-7 seconds from the time I tap on it till it opens
any ideas/fixes? :s

It should only take that long to open on the first time after a reboot. Well mine usually takes 5 seconds. But since WM5 doesnt close the app it will sit in the background and should open quite readily there-after.
If the 6-7 seconds after a reboot is tiresome, then I think your best solution would be to keep the inbox clean or perhaps divide the messages into sub folders. Thats about the best I think your going to get as I really havent seen any sms tweaks kicking around.

Problems

I've had my 8125 for over a year now and never really had problems. The last week or so it's been exhibiting some weird behavior.
The orange light, on the top [right light] is blinking constantly...once a second. I'm not connected to the net, wireless, or anything. What's that light for?
Also, I don't really know the pattern for the next problem. For example, when I hit the reset button with the stylus a minute ago, it reboots, and then it plays one of the alarm tones, the ringing bell tone, and it vibrates. It did this randomly for a few minutes.. gradually less frequently, until now, it's been about 5 minutes since it did it. I have no alarms set. It also does this in the morning when my alarms go off. It will do the ringing, and i can't get it to stop ringing. It's not doing it constantly [riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing], it will do the tone for the normal length [riiiiiiiiiing, riiiiiiiiiing], but I can't get it to turn off. I've tried everything short of uninstalling apps and the OS. If i'm gonna do that, i'm gonna put WM6 on it.
Thanks.
Sounds like you could have some alerts stuck in the queue. SKTools can remove them if I remember correctly (you can use the demo) and I'm sure someone will point you to a free alternative if this is the problem.

personally, i think it's a good idea to hard reset/flash new roms frequently - you never get problems and you clean out the junk you don't use. just get cabs for all your apps on an sc card
Ok, when I reboot, it freaks out.. rings, alarms, vibrates, etc. At first it does it alot.. then gradually is slows and doesn't do it.
I installed SKtools but I have no idea what to do now. Can someone help?
Ok, apparently I should have rebooted after installing SKtools, because there is now text on the buttons when there was none before. Still no idea what to do here.
Also, i've got the full version of sktools.
while you are waiting, search, download and and install the freeware 'scary bear check notification', easy to use, no hassle direct tool to solve your problem. Anyway, SKTool is good, keep it.

1) Load SKTools
2) If the help system comes up (does on first run I think) close it. You should now have a list of icons with descriptions.
3) Press soft button View -> Maintenance
4) Press Notifications Queue
5) By identifying notifications for dates in the past, delete these entries
See if that helps your problem.
Ya, there are a ton of things in that Notifications Queue.
There are alot of "\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0blahblah with a bunch of dates and times that repeat. Like, there are probably 20 2007/06/08 12:33 and 12:08's. I looked in my calendar and there's nothing that day.
Can I delete *everything* in that list? What would that do? I don't care about alarms. If they're on, it's by accident. The only alarm I use is the regular alarm at 3 times on workday mornings.
BTW, thanks so much for all your help. I'm rebooting right now to see if it still does it.
Holy crap! It didn't!!! Sweeeet! Thanks so much. I'll post again if anything weird comes up. Thanks again.

slowwww and laggy

hi
i was wondering if anyone is having this problems where your g1 is very slow or laggy
i'm constantly getting the foreclose and wait window
it usually happens after a mass text message
when i try to scroll throw my threads it lags insanely and sometimes just freezes up
any idea what to do??
hawwee! nice thanksgiving messages to everyone!
btw, i had same issue. I think from all the posts i've read, you have to delete your message threads if they get long. However, I deleted some large threads (500+) and some smaller 50+ and the messages still lags but is definitely faster...
Is there a hack to save mms and sms on sd card, and if so how would be view them again since now they on the sd card
yeah i've noticed that after having the phone on for a while and opening a few programs and it presumably keeping them open that it just gets really slow all around which pisses me off...i hope someone comes up with a better task management application...or maybe change the number of "open apps" from like 6 to 3 because it gets rediculously laggy sometimes.
is it an issue of having too many txt msgs or is it cause too many apps are open?
i know if you're on the main screen and hold the home button, it shows what apps/tasks are open but you cant close them soo seems pointless
woah cool trick with the home button! i think its both. having a lot of messages slows down the messaging thing definitely...and it probably then slows down the rest of android because it will be one of the 6 apps to stay open.
they should definietly add x's to that home screen task manager thing.
and when is google going to release more updates for this??? i mean real updates not "oh lets fix a security hole"
one of the reasons i got it is because i had confidence in google that they would release feature-packed updates every few weeks...hopefully i'm right? because they still have a lot of things to fix/tweak. we should make a list.

"Tap to compose text" fail....

Hello,
Only started having this problem today, when you select "tap to compose text" it just doesnt recognise it.
I press it say 20 times and it'll pick it up.
It seems more apparent in contacts with a large thread of messages.
Is anyone else having this problem?
yeah i get the same exact thing in long threads. immensely frustrating. also scrolling up and down is very laggy in my long message threads. after ten seconds the scrolling becomes smooth and then when i tap to compose text it does a much better job. i think the leo messages program takes a bit to load long threads and until its loaded it refuses to let you tap to compose text.
this is well known bug.thre are other threads about this.
yeah me too absolutely the same problem....
I get it too, I also still find it impossible to type on lol. I am used to an ipod touch, and im sure my accuracy isn't as bad as my HD2 is making mine out to be lol because my ipod writes fine nearly always lol..
Is there a fix for it? At the moment im deleting my threads of texts every day but i usually like to keep all my messages.
HTC phones are brilliant, but what annoys me is that its left to third parties to fix problems like this, when HTC should be picking up themselves.
Surely cant be that hard to rectify!
Quessing still no fix?
You're guessing right

really slow htc messaging

Does anyone else have the problem with htc messaging where it takes maybe 10-15 seconds for a messaging thread to open?
I use my phone mainly for texting and I have a lot of texts on it even though its only 3 weeks old. So its very frustrating when I click on messaging and then on a thread, its so painfully slow. Is there a way to speed things up or is it maybe a rom thing?
Im using duttys v1.8 rom btw.
Yes, it is insanely slow at loading a thread. I have to export my messages regularly, cause as soon as I pass 100 in a thread it begins. Incredibly annoying!
So I am not the only one with this problem.
Some threads are ~350 messages long, and those are a pain in the bottom to load.
would be nice if someone could help us set a limit for the ammount of messages it shows, just like the old windows mobile 6.1
i have the same problem, but i find a sort of solution.
don't close the message application: click menu--> show all message, and stay here.
From this point there's no lag when you open threads. (like bertus i've more then 400 messages for every threads).
I personally clear them all out every so often (bout once a month) and always save anything important to a note file which is then syncronised with my Outlook via Activesync. But I admit its annoying, I get delay when there is 30 messages... lol
Just a thought but have any of you installed the SMS fix so that you can start a new SMS immediately whilst the list is loading. If not i suggest you do a search for it on the HTC website or on this one.
HTH
i installed it 2 days ago. but where's the difference?
i don't understand what it should do. '
...
Got the same problem.. Apart from the iphone, HTC is loading every conversation you have when you open the sms window.
Example iphone only loads 20 messages in 1 page, then you can choose to see older or newer messages...
HTC MUST make a fix to this soon..!!!! Its pretty annoying that it lag.
The SMS fix by HTC fixes the issue whereby you couldnt start to type a new message until the list had fully loaded. After installing the fix you can start a new message immediately whilst the list loads in the background. Hope that clarifies.
I do agree though that the messaging system in sense needs further work to improve it but this fix goes some way to improving it.
HTH.
tnx manimal i understand now.
Is really frustrating when the phone finishes to load the messages and the focus goes to the last one and you must re-select the type box for seeing what you are writing o.o'

I agree but at least you can make a start. I also noticed that even though the focus changes to the last message if you carry on typing it will insert whatever you have typed when you change the focus back the message input box.
You can type while it loads, yes, but the the typing becomes laggy and it doesn't catch half the buttons which are touched. I have tried to contact HTC about this, but there was no understanding to the issue...
By far and away the best solution to conversation lag is for HTC to do as others have suggested and only have the application load, say, the last 20 messages, or at least allow users to configure the number of messages loaded in conversation view. In truth, it could be less than that. Most of the time, all you really need to see is the message you're replying to. It'd be nice to have a halfway-house which offered this functionality. Like for example if you clicked on reply from the traditional view, it would have an option to show the message you're replying to at the top of the screen. Perhaps there is already a way to achieve this?

+1! ... The most annoying thing about the HD2... Makes me wanna throw it away and go all apple again... but then i look at the big screen
Haha.. yup, me too!
I hope, they will fix it in the next rom update.. So it doesn't load every message...
my longest conversation is around 50 messages because I prefer e-mail to sms, but although I have both sms hotfixes, it's still laggy. I don't want to know what it's like with 350 messages gj htc you failed again
is there a good 3rd party messaging program we can install to deal with this problem?
I actually think they should just go back to the regular inbox instead of htc messaging like on other windows mobile phones. that one is a lot faster although less flashy.
this is really frustrating me and I think I might give up on this great device because of the messaging lag and also because it freezes up on me at least twice a day.
Its too bad because it has a lot of potential.

Silence repeat notifications for a minute

This is my first OP phone, but I don't think this is a OP thing. I swear there USED to be a setting ages ago where you could tell Android to STFU if you receive multiple notifications in short succession. For example, I know SEVERAL people who don't seem to have the ability to compose a full thought in a single text message. Because of this I'll occasionally get 2 or 3 notifications within 3 or 4 seconds of each other and it's REALLY freaking annoying. I really miss this setting. I don't care if it's system wide or setting by app. Either way, I don't see it ANYWHERE in the system.
There are times where I'll get 4+ notifications all in a row and each and every single one is played. I mean if this is something I have to create a tasker for, I will. But I'm almost positive there was a system setting for this at one point.
Not sure if there was ever a system setting for this. Seems like a good idea though. Pretty simple to set up in tasker as you suggested.
Just found the app Mutifier. So far it looks like exactly what I want.
