Afternoon all,
Does anyone know if the auto screen resize/rotate function can be disabled on the Universal? It sends my GameBoy emulator wonky every time
Also whenever the SD card slot is used, the SD Card autoplays. This is quite a pain with TomTom on the card as it takes a good 40-50 seconds to fully load and exit TomTom. Can this autoplay be disabled?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Graham
you can disable the autoplay by renaming or removing the "2577" folder on the SD card.
Thanks for the info. Works a treat, even by just renaming.
Does anyone know if disableing the screen auto-rotate is possible?
Yeah, anyone with the screen rotate solution?
What's the screen rotate problem? I think I have a solution to it... but just fill me in first.
V
I'm guessing that they don't want the screen to rotate when they move it from laptop mode to PDA mode and vice-versa. Can be a problem with GAPI games and emulators when you need to move the screen out of PDA mode to get at the keyboard. In reality what they probably need is an app to lock the screen in PDA mode since this is what most games are expecting.
Yeah, I made one of those apps once, to prevent screen rotation.
It has some side effects, eg screen doesn't switch off when you close the lid, unless you expressly press power button (since the system doesn't know the lid is being moved around anymore). So I didn't release it.
Could you live with that handicap? Hopefully the app could be toggled, so it wouldn't be an issue.
V
I wouldn't mind giving it a go, I've been bitten by the screen autorotate a few times myself and needed to soft reset to get control back again.
Hi Vijay555,
Which is the name os that application? I have been looking for it in your site but I was not able to find it :-(
Thanks.
Vijay
Hi Vijay,
I'd love to try this app out. Sounds like exactly what I need.
I'd be very grateful if you could provide a link to it for me.
Thanks
Graham
As I said, I've never released it because I didn't think anyone needed it, it was just some research I was doing on another issue.
However, give me a few days to see if I can pack it into an app.
V
Thank You
Thanks very much.
Really appreciate it
Wooooow!!
I am eager to test it.
Thanks a lot!

I have no problem whatsoever pressing power button to turn off screen as I do it automatically to save power...
Yubastard: fortunately I re-wrote it, now it has no side effects, just disables the autorotation.
It's now called VJUzumaki, but it's unreleased. The code was written for someone else, and they have to decide what to do with it. PM me this weekend tho and I'll see if I can send you a beta.

has anybody come across a one button close all application for WM5.0? Spb 3.0.1 is too slow on WM5 and Wisbar Advance 2.4.....is also too much for what is needed. Something like Magicbutton but written for WM5.0 would br nice, nothing that requires much memory, but something that enables the closing of running apps without having to go into start/settings/system/memory...etc.
Wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft had just written in that piece of code, as they are well aware that since PPC2000, that every application opened, remains so unless you manually close it down in memory (therefore hogging memory resources!)
Well if anyone knows of a WM specific solution, please do share.

I added couple files which they are usefull for you and they include the closeall app.
Install the cab files you'll see the close all, Reset and Running programs, which they can be clicked from the systray directly, after the installation they require a soft reset or else you go to Start>Programs>System open TrayLaunch and press Enable
GSPocketMagic++ is the most stable program I've tried. You need to put some amended bitmaps in to get it to integrate with WM5 but it works well...

Thanks guys. I'll try them both and let you know how I get on.

sub69: I don't know what kind of coding they used in that software you recommended, but it has boosted refresh rates and performance in general by at least 30%!! I know this sounds crazy but it's true! My opinion has completely changed about the speed of the Jasjar. It seriously Rocks! I couldn't care less if it doesn't stay this way, because it shows me conclusively, that future ROMs' will probably address the issues I have had thus far.
I needed this. Thanks a bunch sub69; best link I've had with regards to Universal software.
OK 1 gripe only: I've lost my two soft buttons on the bottom bar (any ideas?). It comes back and stays operational after a soft reset, but as soon as I use the 'close all' option of the program, I loose the soft keys! Damn..there's always a hitch!
Another positive though, the speed boost remains even after I have exited the program and revert to standard WM5.0 launcher!
P.S. I had at least 12 programs running simultaneously with no slow downs at all and 15 megs of Memory still available (tried to run out of memory, But couldn't). Very pleased at the moment, this is what I was expecting from the HTC Universal!! I'll test extensively before I comment further.
Thanks again sub69, u da Man!!
Mental...I didn't realise it was that good!?!
Not sure about the soft buttons, although come to think of it I have noticed they've disappeared a couple of times. Must've been when I hit "Close All" too?
Glad I could help, anyway. Do let us know how things go...

Still cannot believe it!! It's still going strong. Sussed the soft button thingy:Under start (GSPocket)/options/settings...uncheck the 2 tabs for'use exten task close' & 'Use Today skin'. That's it. It runs absolutely perfectly for me & with no need for amended bitmaps too! It fits right in wih my red or blue border themes (I only use my own jpegs now instead of themes - in the hope that I get no performance issues.....so far so good). Under menu settind tab I only select close all & setting (which gives me quick access to all settings in WM5.0..personal & system) and under 'click' tab I leave it as default 'Menu'. I'm so impressed with this software, I didn't think non-specific WM5 software coul be this good!
That site you recommended is also tops!
This software is so good that I must put up a new thread to inform all of your wonder find. I just hope all who try it get the same experience I'm getting. Thanks again sub69....I don't even feel the need for the next ROM update/grade...though I won't be turning it away.
Hmmm, not sure why you're that stunned. I'm finding it just fine - but certainly no faster than my JJ runs under PocketPlus 3.01, and the non-VGA graphics are a real step backwards. Anyone know how to solve this?
You mention a speed improvement; can you clarify: Before this, how long did it take to rotate the screen, and how long does it take now?

Hi All,
I installed MagicButton (freeware) om my K-Jam. It works so far!

That's the file you need to download for the Jasjar, then if you have an SD card reader, you can transfer it directly to it and install the .cab file by selecting it! If you don't have a card reader, let's hope you have a bluetooth dongle, as it's a small file then you can bluetooth it over. However if you have no problems with your activesync connection, just use that to dump the .cab file on your storage card somewhere or into 'My Documents' on the jasjar.
It's not complicated.

Yep, using it myself now - but no speed change over PocketPlus (even after hard reset to remove PP). Using it cos I like menu and PP didn;t offer all that much more that other apps don;t give me.
Hi all. I'm the proud owner of a new XV6800 and I'm wondering, is there any way to make it wake from sleep when I slide out they keyboard?
I have been panning through all of my menus and cannot find a option to wake upon slideout of keyboard. It may not be possible...
Unless someone else knows of a possible registry edit or .cab file...
I haven't seen anything either, my wing did this and I miss the feature.
If you are using Pocket Toolman, which you REALLY should be, under OS tweaks, there is an option to click on, "wakeup when sliding keyboard".
Pocket Toolman is awesome!! And free.

Looks like a great tool, but unless I'm missing something, the "Wakeup when sliding keyboard" feature does not appear to work on my Titan. Any Titan users able to get it to work?
yeah the wake on keyboard feature doesn't seem to be working for my titan...darn
It doesn't work for me either, so I uninstalled it, since other parts weren't either. Looks like a neat tool though.
Crappy Program
I tried this program. It didn't do what it said it would do and also when uninstalled left all the settings that it changed in place. Now I have to do a hard reset. Worthless.

The program was designed to make it easy to change certain registry settings. Perhaps you should've defaulted everything before uninstalling it.
Anyone know another way? This is a feature I'd really like to have

Has anyone discussed this with the developer? It seems like such a waste to do all that work on this app for it not to work properly. There is no place to post comments on the blog, and I noticed the app was just updated yesterday.

Hi xfortrenox,
Can you give more information on what problems you were having with PT2? What device are you using? You're more than welcomed to email me at [email protected].
I am not able to get the Wake on Slide Function to work on my Verizon xv6800.
Also, since I have installed Toolman, It replaced the CONTACT soft button with Toolman.
I tried to RESTORE the right soft button, but now I have a bunch of weird characters in its place.
Do I need to fix something in the registry to get back CONTACTS for my right soft button?
Thanks!
BTW, LOVE the program so far
..............
I think that a wake on slide open for the titan would be a bad idea. The wake on slide open worked well on the htc apache,, although if you think about how the sliding mechanisms work the apache snapped closed, so it woudl not open easily, the titan on the other hand is spring loaded, so any various movements could trip the device to turn on(if the slide open powerup was enabled). I had wanted this feature at first, but soon realized how randomly the phone would turn on if it was shook or moved a certain way, allowing the phone to slide open the quarter inch required to activate the switch. just some random thoughts about this topic, thanks.
I will have to respectfully and vigorously disagree. First off the power button couldn't really be in a worse place - the bottom of landscape mode... holding it in landscape means none of your fingers could be farther away from the key.
I am still holding out hope to be able to power this thing on with a slide.

lol this thread got me all excited... downloaded app installed it and no worky.. normally i read the whole thread first before installing something but I was THAT excited for slidey wakey!
doesn't work
would be glad to test a new version out if u get this fixed toolman... I'm on verizon using xv6800 with Verizon signed OEM ROM.
I'd be glad to beta a version that has wake on slide as well, using a sprint mogul with 2.17 ROM.
I have been trying to work on something that will enable some sort of Haptic feed back on my XV6800. The Haptic feed back is a feature that enables vibration to the screen when you press on the screen. Such as the Voyager.
I dont intend to try and make this just to work with the XV6800 but for ALL HTC Touch Screen Devices and if it can others too.
There is a feature on my phone and on many others that allows our phones to play a sound when the screen is taped. I thought of an idea of why not replace the sound with vibration?
There is already a CAB out there that changes the dial tone into a vibration feedback ( when you press the dial buttons ) but it doesnt do much for the rest of the applications or screen.
So far I have been working on this for a couple of days but havent had much time to put much effort into it.
I was hoping that some developers / hackers can help out the cause and help develope or create a feature that enables this on ALL HTC Touch Screen Devices.
If I do find a way to do this I'll post my findings here, but any help to make this a reality would be gladly appreciated.
I was just reading about this very thing HERE: http://www.immersion.com/vt/haptics-for-mobile.php

Thank you. I am hoping that we can get this done.
I mean we are constantly trying to make our touch screen devices finger friendly. We enlarge buttons, the creation of Touch FLO and the Cube, enlarging menus and so on.
My theory is why not combine all these I deas with Haptic feedback and make it even more finger friendly and try to limit the use of the stylus. If made possible this would be able to work on any HTC Touch screen device or any WM Touch screen device out there.
This would also help users that have a hard time inputing anything into their phone. For example, some one trying to make a text message through t9 or even less then that just pressing on the screen to access a short cut with out having to pound their touch screen until it inputs that they are trying to press. This would help with that because it will acknowledge the input that was made.
Just an Idea

yeah it was an application that ran in the background (maybe as a service, i don't remember), but every single tap created a vibrate feedback. argh i just looked around for it and i have no idea where to find it. it was in some thread, someone's reply had the app attached to it. something about how he knew someone who was working on it, and waited for that person's permission to post the app here on xda-dev. sigh.

Thanks this is a good find.
Ill see if i can make it available using another method. Because they reported that it worked on every other tap of the screen and that it runs the battery down faster too.
What I might try to do is have mine work but have the option to disable it ( like the way you do when you disable screen tap sounds) to save battery power.

So far I have planned some steps on ways to do it through the registry but it is not perfect. I am not an expert programmer but I can give it a shot, but it might take a while since I am not as great as the experts here in XDA.
But I'll do what I can. If I do find a solution I will post it here, but any help to make this project possible would be great.
I would be happy if my phone would just vibrate on keyboard input.
I am running this older vibro cab. Works very well however...
The vibration lasts aslong as your finger has contact on the screen. It would be better if it just gave a quick blip of vibro each touch maybe?
When you slide a cube etc it virbos the whole movement.

Do you happen to have the CAB with you? Maybe I can find a way to change the effect this program does when you press the screen and lower the vibration feed back.
If I can do that then I can maybe create some registry settings to make the same effect but just replacing the sound that is emulated when you tap the screen. That way you can disable it or enable it when you want it. ( In case you need to save battery or something )
The length of the vibration should be shorter, other than that it's a really good tool.
wow i must be stupid. i just posted a thread about this yesterday. anyway, it'd be cool if we could figure out a way to just incorporate it into the registry, probly wouldn't use as much battary and stuff then.
This has been done already on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354890&page=2. On the second page, Kpyto posted a download link for it. I haven't tested it yet though so I can't tell you how well it works.
hows this coming along?
I tried the VOA program mentioned above, but i don't really like it - it's simply annoying by vibrating all the time when scrolling trough lists, or attempting to bring up a tap-and-hold context menu. Not to mention additional battery drain caused by the motor running for such long periods of time.
For me, much better screen tap confirmation is a very short vibra pulse - i often use Vibrate(50) as a confirmation in my mortscripts. That's only 50 milliseconds, but it' enough to be clearly felt, and since the motor is powered only for such short time, it causes almost no additional battery drain. I'd really love to see an application creating such confirmation instead of the screen tap sound.
I'd just like it to have customizable vibration time - since the minimal time needed to make vibration even noticeable can probably vary from device to device, and play nice with fTouchFlo - since both capture touchscreen events there are probably possible conflicts.
Good luck with the development. I hope you'll be able to realize this great idea

I guess you don't bother searching or reading, do you? There's a link on the developer's page saying "Read me first". If you click that then you'll find full instructions.
If you do not want to use 3rd party software, I suggest you use the built-in one.
Just hold the most right button a few seconds... (or read also the manual of the phone)
I also use this method, it is fine and I can preserve more power.
Before that, I also use S2U2, and I remove it after 1 day trail.
When I put the machine aside, HD will lock after 30s, then the screen will goes off in another 30s, the beautiful S2U2 screen saver will only survive for no more than 1 minutes.
When I pull the stylus out, it will automatically unlock, so I got no point to use S2U2......and most important, after using it, the battery goes very fast.
I have a full charge before sleep (100%), when I wake up in the next day, only 89% battery left......

If you do not want to use 3rd party software, I suggest you use the built-in one.
Just hold the most right button a few seconds... (or read also the manual of the phone)
Click to collapse
I have also used S2U2 and had problem with the power leak but then switched to pocket shield which was great, I even wrote a post about it somwhere in this forum... but after some time with pocket shiel it showed 2 very annoying problems. One was that somehow it totally messed up my galarm application to the point it didn't ring the phone alarm at all (I was very pissed of). Since I am a good man I decided to give it one more chance so I uninstalled galarm and used standard windows alarm app... unforutnately this misworked same way- no alarm, this time i was smart enough to test it. Second thing was that pocket shield was messing start menu in my phone - making it disapear until restart, whenever appointment reminder would start...so this is why I dumped pocket shield and moved back to the simplest standard windows lock function
using s2u2, I like the feature, "keylock: do not lock buttons." I installed keylock.cab, but no effect. There is another way?
