Hi All
I convert movies from MPG and AVI to MP4 but when I try to play them on media player it says they are in an unrecognized format.
Does any body know of a better player that is in CAB format as I can only bluetooth cab files from my MAC to my MDA.
Thanks
Steve
Go and grab TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player)
cool
Do you know where to get it from ?
Also is it in CAB format as I can only use CAB ?
Thanks
Steve

Just google it, its simple enough to find.
Yes, you can get cabs (it may be a zip of cabs, but you can unzip on the mac and then transfer the required cab for the ARM architecture).
Thanks
Wicked Thanks
Any others ?
Steve
May I ask - why did you convert movies from AVI 2 MP4?
I'm asking because my WMP is playing them without any problems...
In this topic you can find link to TCPMP and PocketDivXEncoder (really very handy)

Hi ppl.
Just wondering if anyone could tell me/ point me in the wright diredtion here.
I just wanted to know what vid formats wm5 nativly plays back in media player ?

It plays WMV & some AVI formats, Get TCPMP as an alternative player, much better. & add PocketDivxEncoder to make the divx files on your PC for your PPC. Both are freeware!

Get the converter!!!!
http://www.zealotsoft.net/
ALL in one converter
just bought myself a 1 gb sd card from crucial.
can i convert my dvd collection to a format small enough to fit onto my 1 gb sd card. copying my dvd collection is not legal as long as i have an original copy at my home, correct?
i have got dvdshrink, can i use this to shrink dvd's to a pda exec size?
The dude tells you this ;-)
Pocketdivxencoder to shrink them to ±250MB each
TCPMP to play them on your Universal.
The combo is awesome & really a show off.
Cheers, M
Converting dvd to SD
There is a software called " dvd studio" it's meant to be really good. you can buy it on pocketgear I think.
PocketDivxEncoder is free

what settings do you usually use to get the dvds to that size?
DVD shrink to backup a re-authored copy (remove the menus and other unneccessary frippery) (free)
AutoGordianKnot to convert the films down to 300Mb (ish) each (free)
TCPMP player to view (free).

Standard qvga (320*240) biggest problem is the sound, that must be good. So I'm still tweaking for best results. Have good experience with the wmv format too. Pretty compact & good quality. I downloaded a free Microsoft converter somewhere for this, but handles like hell.
M
I have all my movies for pocket pc between 165-170MB each to fit three onto a 512MB card and the quality is very good. PocketDiVxEncoder rocks!!! You can do absolutely everything, crop it to fit better to the screen, adjust the volume, cut the movie.
And of course TCPMP as a player!
I've just converted few movies for my 13h flight tomorrow.
thanks for the replies
i just downloaded the pocketdixexncoder on my pc, do i convert .iso's into output file, and what outfile do i convert it to
i guess i speify the outut file in the second dialog(tab). out of interest what software was pocketdixencoder written in?
i went to the tcpmp site, i geuss i should download this file tcpmp.smartphone.0.71.exe, correct?
no. The Universal is a Pocket PC , not a Smartphone.

I usually copy my dvd to harddisk or convert straight from dvd. Convert them to divx (avi container) & TCPMP will do the rest on the PPC
i went to the following link
http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=53&release_id=224#r224
and it gives me the following options
tcpmp.arm.cabs.0.71.zip
tcpmp.mips.cabs.0.71.zip
tcpmp.setup.0.71.exe
tcpmp.sh3.cabs.0.71.zip
tcpmp.smartphone.0.71.exe

will the xda exec have juice for 13 hours?
It depends on your cpu, which to download. For magician it is arm (pxa272), since a universal got a pxa270 you should download the same arm version.
Point PocketDiVXencoder to the first vob of the movie & go

Not if it is "protected". Use DVDDecrypter to rip the DVD contents to .VOB files, then PocketDivXEncoder to convert and compress these into avi for TCPMP.
AnyDVD ain't free, better results with newer protection systems & you can run straight from DVD ;-)

This is how i watch movies on my universal, I tend to use DVD Decypter as well for occasionaly as well as DVD shrink.
It works great, got a collection of CSI season 1 on my universal at the moment

thanks for the replies guys
i downloaded tcpmp.arm.cabs.0.71.zip and when i unzipped it, i ended up with 5 files. i was expecting an exe file and i saw the following files.
readme.txt
tcpmp.arm720_ce3.cab
tcpmp.arm_ce2.cab
tcpmp.arm_ce3.cab
tcpmp.arm_sp.cab
does arm720 mean that it is an ARM 7 processor, i thought the universal had an xscale in it. i went through the readme file the cab files seem to be for wince 2.xx, 3.xx and 4.xx
does not the xda exec have a windoes mobile version 5.0
should i use one of the above for tcpmp, also it is a .cab file, do i copy the cab file to a location on my xda.
if i need to copy it, can i copy it to my sd card memory?
hey i did a bit of searching and came across an exe file which i have downloaded from http://www.tcmp.org/
if this is the player tcmp4.exe then what do i do with the .cab files
also when i start up pocketdivxencoder
i select my device as smartphone (leftmost option), is that the right option for the xda exec
P.S. is there a way i can unzip zipped files on my xda?
Before installing the cab-file, get a copy of cabinstl first. With cabinstl you can decide yourself where a cab installs.
I'd go for tcpmp.arm_ce3.cab, if it's not correct you can always try another, & no you have a PPC & not a SMART PHONE :!:.
With Resco Explorer you can unzip on your PPC, PocketRar is nice as well & there's a stand-alone zip which I got from TMO in my ext-roms ftp://xda:[email protected]_1.13.125/Zip_Magician_T-Mobile_WWE_RC20.CAB maybe it works on your device too. Didn't found a universal variant.
Don't know about that exe file, but you can always uninstall it. Or make a backup first with Sprite Backup.

tcmp rocks. i managed to get an avi file based on a dvd playing on my xda.
i had one question, a dvd is composed of multiple vob files, say vob1, vob2 and vob3, this means that i end up with 3 avi files, myavi1.avi, myavi2.avi, myavi3.avi, is there any way i can end up with a single avi file?
I use Video Convert Master 3.0 from
It gives the option convert anything, from file or DVD disk direct, (although never used this i tend to start with the avi and need to reduce the size)
anywhoo it will convert to Mpg RM WMV AVI and DVD, there are seperate profiles for converting and within WMV there is an option for POCKETPC (windows media video 9 for pocket pc) which will encode the file to the correct screen size etc, TCPMP sorted the need for this being able to play avi direct.
You can limit the output file size to 170meg also it has the 'priceless' option of entering multiple video files and it will automatically combine them onto one file,
Hope this helps,
http://www.video-convert-master.com
Also the files you mentioned in TCPMP zip file,
I have found that there are two display types for TCPMP, the menu bar can be at the top as normal or switched to be at the bottom with the player functions at the top.
Good in theroy and does look nice, personally i dont like my handset having that much work to do when coming out of watching a film, has caused issues for my software overloaded pda in the past.
So the files as i know them are
tcpmp.arm720_ce3.cab - doesnt work, (on (my) 2003 anway)
tcpmp.arm_ce2.cab - Cab file for UPSIDE DOWN VIEW
tcpmp.arm_ce3.cab - Cab file for NORMAL VIEW
tcpmp.arm_sp.cab - Never used it dont know.
Dear All,
Is there a software that i need in order to convert Windows media Player 9 files, in .avi format before downloading to my Xda Exec? I tried a couple of times but it just says the format is not supported. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks
regards,
Ravi
When you got WMV files your Universal's media player shouldn't have much problems with it. For larger files, say like ripped DVD's I use PocketDivxEncoder to shrink them & TCPMP to play them back on my Magician. Works like a dream & both programs are free .
Regards, M
I often use Windows Media Encoder to convert avi's and mpegs to wmv files.
The built in wizard includes options for Pocket PC sized files (320x240, low-ish quality sound) but you can totally vary the Bitrate (video & sound) to suit whatever quality/size balance you prefer.
You can download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx
And it's totally free.
The only downside is that it doesn't seem to be able to rip a DVD directly and convert to wmv. I normally need to use a 3rd party ripper to convert the dvd to mpeg or avi.
Nowadays though with my new 4Gig SD Card - I just whap the full movie (700 odd meg) onto it and play it with the best PPC media player available: TCPMP (The Core Project Media Player)
(Oh - Windows Media Encoder is also useful if you have a TV card in your desktop - you can stream the TV out onto the net/intranet allowing you to watch your programmes on your XDA
Still unable to convert
Hi guys,
I downloaded the Windows media encoder but i am unable to convert the .avi file. Everytime i choose the input file and the output and click finish it says ''Input media format is invalid'' Why is that?????
I chose the Pocket PC option as i would like to view the file on my XDA but i keep getting this error msg.
Would it be helpful, if i downloaded another software for conversion???
regards,
Still unable!!!!!
Hi guys,
Downloaded the PocketDivxencoder and converted the file but when i tried playing it on my XDA it says file format not supported!!!!!
Is it a problem with the Windows Media player that i am using?????
Is Windows media player the default player for the XDA? Would it be helpful if i installed another Media Player?
Where can i get this TCPMP ?
Any suggestions would greatly appreciated,
thanks and best regards,
What kind of avi are you using, a divx maybe? Cause avi is just a container for many formats & wme doesn't support all of them.
Regards, M
Just google for tcpmp it's really easy to find.
M
OK DONE!!!
Hi guys,
Sorry for the multiple posts, but i finally managed to download TCPMP and converted the files via PocketDivxencoder and it now works...FINALLY!!!!!
Sorry to have bothered everyone,
regards,
I got it with the PocketDivxencoder too.
BUT: I got several avi-files, is it possible to get only one big file?

Hello Everyone,
I bought HTC Touch D2 a week back and now found that it is not playing .avi video files in windows media player. Is there any way to play .avi files or any player that I can install and play .avi files.
Friends please suggest and if somebody has any player that plays .avi files in fullscreen mode that would be very grateful.
Please post a cab file of a software.
Thanks in Advance.
TCPMP plays avi files
Download here.
http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/tcpmp.smartphone.0.72RC1.cab
edit: i didn't test this one. Maybe its a beta or demo but if so, you can find a full version over the net.
TCPMP works great. If you feel like buying something, then I would go with Coreplayer.

thanks for that but same thing happened as with videora, it says "the file may be copied for storage or transport use only. it is not supported for use on the device". i converted it to mp4. think it might be to do with the video file itself i`m converting, its off a torrent. also when playing it through windows media player on my computer it says: "the selected file has an extension (.mp4) that is not recognised by windows media player, do you want to try anyway" an when playing the file the sound is there but no picture. do you need codecs for mobiles??? because when 1st playing the original file on my computer before converting it for my phone, same thing happened and i had to download codecs to watch it.
anyway thanks for your reply

Videora (TD2 Version) works perfectly for me...
Can you play back the original file on your PC?
And the converted one?
TCMP
Tcmp is your solution !
If you do a little search of this forum you may find a version of tcmp supporting the srt files.
With tcmp, you don't need to convert your avi files. It run pretty well in full screen with 700 mb divx files on my topaz.
use pocketdivxenc
Hi everyone,
I use this http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm on my topaz and it's incredible....try it.
I use Beta version 0.4.5 and the templates tool, and i saw on my topaz Terminator Salvation, District 9 & Start Trek without problem on CorePlayer .
I hope it works for u
sorry for my english !!!

thanks for this, will the files play on windows media player on my phone when i`v used this or do i need a different player?
Usually Divx/Xvid..files for PC have an exagerated bitrate for PPC use, that is why it is wise to convert them.
Here's my technique:
1) convert original divx/xvid file with HTC Touch HD Video Converter, available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
2) Copy resulting .mp4 file to SD
3) Play with HTC Album
Note: Coreplayer can play this file aswell, but I think that htc album playback is smoother.
Unfortunately HTC Touch HD Video Converter doesn't rip dvd, can anyone suggest some all-in-one application to easily make divx?
