This is all new to me so sorry if im being a bit thick
i have an XDA exec on O2 but i wanna set it up so my mate can use it on orange (contract card) - i need to know everything i need to change. I know i have to do the message centre number for texts but what else ???
does anyone have the settings ???
swerver
Sim unlock it. See the pinned thread on the top of universal upgrading forum
No, don't. The Xda Exec is already sim unlocked.
lol yeah... Weird that I forgot as I also have an exec... No need to do anything beside using MaUpgrade_noID to install the ROM you want.

The SIM card.
If you want to get the MMS settings, GPRS and WAP you will have to go to the Orange site and search for them. The message centre sets itself up. The ROM you use doesn't make any difference to your phone, you don't have to put a different one in just because you're using another card.
If you give the phone to your mate and then get him to phone 150 they will walk him through setting the phone up to Orange settings. He should tell them it is an SPV m5000 or they will pretend they have no idea how to set one up because it isn't one of their phones.

One of our guys got the XDA2 from O2 partly so he could get his email and browse the web while travelling. We assumed that by now O2 would have GPRS deals set up with most of the world's telcos. But not so. They have voice deals with most of the Middle East countries but not GPRS. Is this because these countries have not yet rolled out GPRS or simply that O2 haven't negotitaed a deal yet. Second question - if say Omantel has got GPRS, can he buy a cheapo phone there and subscribe for their GPRS access, but swap the SIM card into his XDA 2 while he is in Oman
Mike
sorry but what is the question if there are any ?

Hi Rudeguy  here they are again then:

...... since the forum is called 'Using it' I thought these reasonable questions to ask.
Thanks Mike
if o2 dont have a grps roaming deal with the country or if they dont have grps i dont know sorry
if they do have grps then he should be able to get a valid sim for their network and put it in his xda without any problems (in that way it works just like any other callphoene)
but of cause new grps, mms and wap settings would most likely be typed in manualy
about the question thing then well i suppose i just skim'd the text looking for the ? sign
OK ... that sounds promising. But what's this 'locked/unlocked' thing I keep seeing? Is it that straightforward to put in a different SIM card, or have O2 somehow locked the XDA2 to their network?
Question marks included this time .... last post was from my XDA2 ... it doesn't have question marks
Mike
The xda2 usually comes locked to the network you purchased it from. You can use xda2unlock from this forum to open your phone to all networks, try clicking the shift key on your xda2 keyboard, you might be surprised and see a ????? key.
How easy would it be to set this up? Phone is already unlocked. Is there an easy way of sorting out out WAP and SMS settings> Is there a customised Orange ROM out there that you know of? A theme would be good too.
Thanks for your help.
Mine was a O2 phone that I unlocked and have been using with Orange pay-as-you-go for a couple of years. There was nothing I needed to do for SMS to work, just inserting the SIM was enough. I hate WAP, so was using proper mobile Internet pages through GPRS. The only setting you need for GPRS is the access point name, which is payginternet.
Thanks for that, I'll give it a try as soon as I get hold of an Orange SIM card.
Has anyone managed to get a tytn working on the uk o2 network? o2 say theu do not support the phone although they have the phone in germany listed as an xda trion. I can make calls and texts with my simcard but have no 3g access as yet. The phone was originally on vodaphone. Any help appreciated !
dont you just need to edit the connection settings for o2?
these should be the same for any o2 phone that uses 3g...
i believe they are posted on the wiki
thanks for quick answer
Thats what i thought, but phoned o2 for the settings and they just kept saying that the "software" in this phone is not compatible with o2 network and therefore there is no support for it and no settings ! MUPPETS !
Any idea where i can find the settings for a normal o2 phone?
Worth a try, I really want this phone on o2 !

I smell COW DUNG!!!! O2 are spinning rubbish to you sir...ive been using a TyTN since the middle of August with O2-UK (see stats hehehe).
Il get my settings into a .txt file for you...theres some variations you can use but il set you up with the ones that work ok??
What are you on PAYG or Contract???
P.S: My TyTN is a genuine HTC TyTN (i.e not a varioII or imate JASJAM variation of it) bought it unbranded(unlocked) from mobilefun.co.uk....sim free.
Theres a cab file with the O2 UK settings somewhere on this forum I usen it all the time. Sorry I don't have the link anymore after the XDA Dev switch to new servers. Also O2 3G works perfectly fine with the tytn. What you do have to have is a 3G enabled sim card, I had to get mine changed for one & also do you have O2 3G coverage where you are? To determine if you have just whip out the sim card & it should have 3G printed on it.
Yer if your SIM is not a 3G enabled one (USIM) then give O2 a bell and say you have recently aquired a 3G handset and need a new SIM card for it to work with the 3G service....they should send one out (for free)...when it turns up just call O2 again and get them to enable it.
What they said about the TyTN not being supported is a crock of sh*t .... im guessing they will only give you the settings when its an O2 handset!?
Forgot to add the O2 3G settings are exactly the same as the normal GPRS. You just need a 3G enabled sim card
Hi everyone, I've just purchased an SPV M5000 off ebay and it should be with me on Wednesday. I've been reading up on this for a few hours but still have some questions which I'd appreciate some help with if you can.
I understand the Orange SPVM5000 is sim locked, is this true and how easy is it to unlock. I will be using this with an iBook and The Missing Sync software. I can use virtual PC if need be to flash the rom, but would I be better off going to a shop / market stall and paying a tenner?
My first question is: is the Orange branding as slow as the O2 Active branding? I'd hate it to be as slow as some reviews are saying.
I have read a lot about the corporate install option on the O2 XDA Exec, I presume this is available on the SPV M5000 as well - can someone please confirm? I have read that you need to enter the O2 connection settings on the Exec when you enter corporate mode, do you have to do this on the M5000 as well? If so can someone please post the settings?
If I flash the rom or debrand the phone, will I need to contact Orange to get GPRS & MMS re-enabled? They told me that they won't help me directly as I did not register the phone.
I am really looking forward to getting this but want to get it running at a good speed, so any assistance would be gratefull received.
James
First I would like to say you made a great choice going with Windows Mobile. After my first device I considered myself a spokesperson for WM.
I also had an Orange SPV M5000 in the past and if you call them up they will give you the unlock code. The free way would be to get Buzz_Lightyears sim unlock tool available from his website buzzdev.net
If you feel confident enough you can do everything to the phone yourself, but as it is a very expensive unit you have think twice about doing any flashing to the phone.
My o2 active UI was very slow, and only got slower as more programs were open. The orange one responds a bit faster, but I dont know many people who keep the original stuff on there anyway. There are so many programs out there that can do alot more.
I do not believe there is a corporate mode install on the Orange version but you dont need any connection settings anyway.
Once you get the phone you will have to configure the network settings for MMS and GPRS yourself. I notice that u have are with fido as I am, but am pretty sure the settings will be different since you are in the states.
You can try these setting for GPRS and see if they work:
APN: wap.fido.ca (or mayb .com)
USER: fido
PASS: fido
Your last question about speed is that there are so many programs out there that enable you to do what you want but you have to keep in mind that each open program slows the phone down so you have to make a compromise somewhere.
Hope this helps
Thank you very much for your help. I set my profile up wrong initially when I registered on here, I am actually in the UK and will probably use an Orange SIM for the phone, so I don't really need to unlock it I guess.
I would like to change the software though, could you tell me what settings I will need to enter and where (I will find the actual values for Orange UK)?
Many thanks
James

debrand SPV M5000
Hi there
I was wondering is the anyway to debrand Orange SPV M5000
If yes, is it complicated process?
Please advice
Kind regards,
Arian
Hey,
if you do a little research on this forum and its wiki it's not hard to find the methods to reflash your Universal with another provider ROM. If this is what you mean by debrand
Take a look here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
If you find any error it's quite possible you'll find its solution in the forum already
Good luck!

Yes it is possible to have ROM of ur choice to ne same model , and it is not at all a complicated process its just a same procedure as u upgrade ur device with ur official ROM with some added 2-3 steps and thats it .

2. Windows Mobile 6.0 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314675
With no problems flashed brand new UK O2 XDA Orbit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314866 - Windows Mobile 5.0 ROM in memory card, just in case).
Even easier than XDA Mini S. Beautifull. Now 4 hours configuring . Love it.
Thanks guys. Keep the good work !
thanks step0011 man!!, my super hero!!
I spent more than 3 weeks to find this ROM
It's kinda funny that it just leaked accidentally by the repairing service.
I'll try it tonight if it's work with the O2 company one not the T-Mobile.
thanks again!!
ps. I don't know it's gonna work with T-Mobile only or both O2 and T-Mobile.
i have the xda orbit on o2, i just use t-mobile sim because they offer unlimited GPRS
I tried and it works perfectly as it used to.
anyway, got a bunch of thanks to step0011, you are goddess!!
Just a couple of words to say congratulations on finding this elusive rom...
...and a big thank-you for sharing it!!!

orbit on t-mobile
Hey step0011.
I have a quick question - OT.
I also have an orbit with t-mobile (unlimited gprs) but cannot get the voicemail to work as the orbit will drop the 0 on the voicemail number (+440627843******). Any ideas on how to overcome this? I tried dropping the +44 but i still get a message from t-mobile that i've dialled the wrong number.
Thanks
ben
You drop the +44 and insert a 0 (zero) in its place.
lol good question i usually just dial 222... i'll get back to you on that soon

hehe cracked it... rite... in the infinate wisdome of microsoft (being smart arses) have taken it opon themselves to automatically drop the 0 after +44 so just put 2 0's instead of 1 e.g +4400737*******
