Does any one know where I can get the software to switch views on the xda2 screen between portrait & landscape formats ? When I am trying to view spread sheets it becomes extreemly frustraiting having to scroll accross every time I want to view things !!! :x
hey mate,
when i was still using my xda1 i tried out 2 kinds of software; ny-something (forgot the name) and another one called jslandscape. the ny works better but i never got the correct settins to make the appearance right (based on resolution). and the worse part is to uninstall the sucker you have to do a hard reset. now that i'm using an xda2 i haven't heard of anyone successfully using either of the 2 softwares i mentioned; a friend of mine had to do a hardreset after trying it out on his unit. my 2 cents worth is that be VERY careful when you decide to try out orientation software; make sure you back up your data well.
cheers

Have a look at http://www.nyditot.com/
I never testesed it but it seems very good (pocketpc award 2003)
bye

I use nyditot quite a lot, at 480x360 landscape for terminal services and web browsing, and it works perfectly. Note that there were issues with PC2003 until recently, so make sure you get the latest version.
I beleive you can uninstall it without a hard reset. However, you need to do a soft reset between screen changes which can be a bit irritating.
Also, the SIP is scaled too, so can be a bit fiddly to use at finer resolutions, although I rather like it tiny.
I just wish PPC devices would start to use, and properly support, the new 640x480 screens that are becoming standard on Palm5 devices.
I also use the nyditot software. I first started using it when I had an iPAQ but since it works with WM2003 is was able to migrate to my XDA II
This is one good surprise. I have been using Pocket PC Phones since the first O2 XDA, then XDA II, then i-mate PDA2, and none was really compatible with any TV remote control software (unless you sit at a distance of 1 meter from your TV!). But now everything changed with the Jasjar. The IRDA is so powerful: I am using it as a TV/DVD/VCR... remote control nearly from any distance (even with small obstacles between the TV and the Jasjar). I tried NoviiRemote and Total Remote: they both worked perfectly.
Thanks for your report. Although I can't get Total Remote working on my I-mate Jarjar (Changed to DOPOD Chiniese rom) , however NoviiRemote works perfectly on it, and it even have VGA support!!!!
My jasjar and NR_deluxe
I am using NR_deluxe with distance 7 m
Yes, thanks for your report - I've just installed NoviiRemote.
At the very least, it'll be fun to turn off all those advertising screens that UK supermarkets have started introducing, as well as any any other CIR (Consumer Infra-Red) devices that happen to be in range.
awesome! thanks for letting us know - I wasn't even gpoing 2 bother testing remote apps after every device in my past failed so miserably.
Has anyone found a remote control app that works in landscape yet? The IR transmitter is on the side of the Universal right?
i try it
i can change channel at the maximum distance of 35 cm. (panasonic plasma)
change track to dvd at no more 40 cm
noviiremote deluxe 3.1 (05.08.30a)
jasjar rom 1.13.53wwe
this remote is useless.....
or i did something wrong
I have the O2 Exec and NoviiRemote Deluxe works well, good range. However Novviremote is let down by the lack of CCF support and the lack of a landscape mode. And the design mode is a little clunky.
Total Remote doesn't work for me. It can learn fine, but it doesn't seem to transmit anything (using iRDA or the Griffin option - not that I have a Griffin iRda).
WinCESoft Remote II looks to be the pick of the bunch, supporting VGA, CCF landscape et al, but I only have the crippled trial version of this software.

How about WinCESoft Remote II? Does it work on the HTC Universal?
What happens to Novii Remote if you switch screen to landscape? Does it still work since it has no landscape support?

Doesn't work at all in landscape, that'll be a great update or o2 execers...
But I'm gonna go ahead and buy it anyhow, and wait for an update. 10 times nicer to use than my previous PDAWIN.

It doesn't work on my QTEK 9000. In fact, after uninstalling the program I got a notification error now and then which said "
Cannot find rcii_help.exe"

Thanks for this response. I was going to try it when I get home. I guess I'll write to the developer of Novii Remote and ask when they will have support for landscape and WM5. Merry Christmas!
cannot create codebase TV_XXX
Hi,
When i trie to configure a device in Noviiremote Deluxe, i go to add new device and i follow the wizard. In last step, appear this message - "cannot create codebase TV_XXX".
Any ideia?
Thanks and Happy New Year!
I have installed Noviiremote Deluxe on my exec and set it up to work for my sky+ box which is great when the misses decides to hog the sky remote. But when i try to configure my Bang & Olufsen remote it crashes when it tries to read the volume up and down buttons. Anyone else had this problem?
I use Novii + Nikon ML-L3 DSLR IrRemote shutter profile and saved myself around 30USD
Remote control was one of the first thing i tested after getting the Universal & the CIR in Universal is quite strong, it didn't even need line of sight!
I came up with a great pseudo-hack for NoviiRemote Deluxe using MortScript.
For those who've tried to use the software properly, you have to have the screen flipped in portrait mode, yet use the software in landscape mode and hold it like a Sony PSP while aiming it at your TV or home equipment. Of course, if you flip it before you launch the program, it's in portrait mode. If you flip it after you launch the program, it will switch to a portrait skin. Neither method is good, especially if the IR port is on the device's side.
So, using MortScript, I came up with this nifty batch file:
Code:
message "Press OK when screen is flipped properly.","NR Deluxe"
run "\Program Files\NoviiMedia\NR Deluxe\NR Deluxe.exe"
sleep 1000
rotate 270
With this batch file, at least you'll be prompted to flip your screen around which will make the device turn portrait, to which it will launch the program after you press OK. It will wait a quick second, then rotate the screen to landscape mode, making the program switch to a landscape skin. From there, you can skin your remote the way you like it.
Voila! (God, I love MortScript - it is the shiznit!)
thx
Cool, I can confirm WinCESoft Remote II is working on my O2 Exec, had to change the com port in Remote II to com1 instead of com2 but apart from that seems to work perfectly! Range so far upto 7 feet, angle is a little fussy though more than 10/15 degrees either side of straight line and it stops working. Have tested with my Samsung Digi Cable box and my Matsui DVD Recorder.
Draw back it the landscape/portrait mode seems to get a bit screwed but I may need to get more skins as I dont seem to have a VGA 640x480 in the list .

Greetings all
I have a JasJar, used in Wireless reporting for our Police Dept. in Johnson City TN. I purchased this unit for an officer who needed a larger screen. However, our custom software will not run full screen. The software is designed I assume, for VGA, not QVGA. Our vendor has not yet opted to design their software for a single device. So I am stuck with a JasJar that runs our application in just ¼ of the screen. Would anyone have a solution to force our application to take advantage of the entire screen?
Thanks in advance,

May be install realVGA to swith windows on 96dpi (for 640x480) because by default, the HTC universal WM is configured in 192dpi (QVGA print size on VGA)
See here:

Thanks for the reply. I can't seem to find a WM5 realVGA download. I tried two downloads, but appear to be specifically for WM6. does not do anything on the JASJAR. Also tried ozvga but just made everything super tiny.

Upgrade to WM6???
Search this forum for Ozvga This was a large topic about 18 months to 2 years ago. Worked well on WM5. IIRC, it was switchable between VGA and QVGA
I saw some i780 images with RealVGA and I just have to admit it was the best square screen I have even seen for a PPC. This seems precisely what I want for my screen. Could someone please explain what exactly is it, and how it works? and if all softwares are automatically compatible with it, or would I have to sacrifice my software collection in order to use it???
BTW, what screen resolutions does it work with and would my Treo 750 support it??
I always thought you needed a VGA screen to use realVGA or anything like that, so i don't think it would be possible on a treo. Then again i'm not entirely sure so i would wait for someone else to confirm.
RealVGA, essentially, makes everything smaller.
The point of this is to take advantage of a high resolution screen (since WM doesn't). In your case, it will probably make windows unusable as the 240x240 resolution would end up making text so small that it's illegible.
It's mainly meant for 640x480 screens although 480x480 as well as 320x320 screens appear to be usable.
RealVGA, or TrueVGA as I like to call it, basically disables pixel-doubling that WM uses to make all programs work well. This can really only be used on devices that have more pixels than 320x240. So a VGA screen of 640x480 will show 4x the about of data in TrueVGA mode as it would in normal mode.
The downside is that not all programs will work properly. This is a developer issue, and it is best to contact them to resolve this problem. I would suggest putting your device into TrueVGA mode and trying out the programs that you use, and see if you are happy with the results.
I have put a package together in the link below that you can use for testing purposes, and see if it is something you like or not.
Personally I only every use my device in TrueVGA mode as I hate the lost space as a result of the large icons on my x51v. But it will come down to personal preference and you are best to try and see for yourself.
Cheers
Mark

RealVGA actually changes your dpi. The stock i780 is using 128dpi which is something not common. Most devices are using 96 dpi. I believe RealVGA was written is to maximize the available screen. Of course with 96 dpi, the letters are also smaller, and it might pose some difficulty in readin texts on the screen.
However, others are still using RealVGa mainly one can maximize the screen. Also, the display though small, makes it look more sharp.
As to the programs, I'm not sure what you have. For myself, I am using PocketCM (modded to fit in the i780), Audio Manager and the Diamond WM Player Skin (modded to fit in the i780). I also installed the HTC Today plugin.
I also had modded SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 (I've since uninstalled it), I have SBSH Weather (using slikkie's sbsh weather skin). Quite a few software can run under RealVGA, it depends on what you have actually.
Hope this helps.

Search for the nadavi 3g dialer for i780. Install and you will be able to make video calls.
I am very concerned about the ability to use basic applications on the Xperia's WVGA screen. I love the screen for DVD watching, but will it prevent me from using my favorite applications?
Can someone tell me if these will work:
Slingbox
Log Me In
Skyfire (when available)
Garmin Mobile XT
I know for the Toshiba G900 there is a program called WVGAfix or something that allows you to convert your screen to 640x480, I think.
Any insight into this problem would be helpful!
Thanks
Rick
If you hook me up with some links where i can download the apps, i can try 'em.. got a X1 infront of me..
Can do the same as well if you want. Currently using Opera and it works great. Wish you could use the pad to scroll around like a mouse though.. too bad.
Where are you guys getting your xperia's from, I'd love to get hold of one albeit pre-production.
Thanks
I am sorry, I don't have that software yet. I was going to wait until I got the Xperia.
In any event, can somebody make a program which you run on Xperia that can make all those VGA specific programs work? LIke there wvgafix for Toshiba G900?
EDIT: wrong thread!
Yeah, where do you guys get your X1s from!.

They might be tricking you - maybe they are like the rest of us - we don't have one yet!
Garmin Mobile XT is working without any problems on X1.
I don't think there will be much problems except navigation software.
I have a Toshiba G900 sind a good year with just this 480x800 and all standard software runs fine. AgendaFusion, TCPMP, TotalCommander, WisbarAdvancedDesktop (most important to me), the SBSH-collection, not to forget the great Softmaker Office which is very usefull with the screen -only navigation software is a problem that sometimes work, sometimes not.
Anyone tried Iguidance 4 with this resolution?
bump, we need to update this thread!
Btw, can someone tell me what are the differences between SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Pocket Plus?
is there any differences between SPB MS panel and the original SPB MS app?
Garmin Mobile XT is working just fine on X1, without any problems.
is advanced configuration 3.3 working for X1?
Yeah, advanced configuration 3.3 is working fine on my X1.
New version of Kinoma play is out and it is compatible with X1.

- Slingbox works OK. The video stream doesn't fill the whole screen (even with the aspect ratio set to 'wide'), and the interface buttons are kinda displayed correctly, but seemed to be actually shifted to the left, as when you press the power button for example, it's in reality a few buttons down. It's kinda hard to explain, but it seems like it's not being displayed at the right resolution, even tho all the images files, seem to be made for VGA (at least they're labeled that way).
- LogMeIn looks beautiful on this screen. And there's A LOT less screen scrolling compared to a QVGA screen, obviously. But compared to my old Tilt, it's a pleasure using LMI on this phone.
- Skyfire doesn't work yet, but you probably already knew that. It immediately crashes or closes down as soon as you try to load it. Hopefully, they'll add W/VGA support, because sites also look amazing on Opera.
- I don't use Garmin, but TomTom 7 looks and performs great. It looks as sharp as it should. Don't know if it's really scaling to the full resolution, but it sure looks like it.
Could you Please Post Pictures Of What The SlingPlayer Mobile Client Looks Like

That was my main concern, how the SlingBox would work with the Xperia X1, so that's good news. If possible could you please post a few pictures of how the SlingPlayer mobile client looks on the Xperia X1, thanks in advance....!
