I bought the Jam a few days ago. it's so good that i don't want to put it away. but there is one thing that i'd like to have on it. I used to own a symbian phone, and there are answering machine programs available on that platform. such as this one: http://my-symbian.com/7650/applications/applications.php?faq=2&fldAuto=303
I tried to find something similar for pocket pc but can not find anything. Has anybody here come across one of these at all? Thanks.
howdy.. got rid of my 6 day old Atom after downgrading to it from a Mini, so now I have my first smartphone its awesome
After using the sites search feature to answer a dozen questions I had, I am left with a couple of quick questions I cant find answers to..
I use Windows Powertoys to view my phone on my pc's desktop, although it doesnt allow the same functionality as it does if you plug a PDA into it.
What else is there to use that will emulate the phone on a pc desktop?
Thanks
U can try Pocket Controller-Professional v5.05

Hey that looks pretty good.. thanks
Does exactly what I want.. you can send commands to the phone via the mouse.
Windows PowerToys doesnt allow that if you are using Windows Smartphone, only a PDA, CE device
Thanks
Err.. but wat i dun like is some software was installed in the phone right ?
Hey,
As you all know I've made a site for touch friendly programs: www.touch-innovation.com
Basically to help me through adding programs and such, I need a windows mobile emulator to make life easier for me!
Link me to some please - free if you can
Isn't there one on the windows site in the wm sdk?
I have that, but it's not an emulator as such, it just catches things (if you see what I mean)

Click to collapse
It is an emulator. It emulates hardware and therefor enables Windows Mobile to run on hardware that wouldn't be able to run it without emulation.
I use it. You will need microsoft visual studio 2005 or better to start with.
What about the free one from Microsoft? In addition to that you need some emulator images:
Cook one (see my signature)
Download them form Microsoft, too.
I will start by admitting to being a complete novice to the whole WinMo thing, only being attracted to WinMo by the fabulous looking SE X1.
So, onto the question.
Is it possible to set up a virtual machine in Vista, and feed it the X1's WinMo 6.1 Rom? A try before buy type of thing?
I did find an article on T'internet about something very similar, but as WinMo has changed, and MS Virtual PC is the latest, greatest thing, i wondered if anyone has done this, or if indeed it is possible.
Sorry if this is a waste of anyones time, or if it is a stupid idea, but i would like to test out WinMo 6.1 at least, before i buy a phone i might not get on with.
Thanks all.
You could port the ROM to work as an emulator image, but quite frankly thats a huge amount of work and isn't worth it. It won't work in a virtual pc type software because they emulate x86 hardware and WinMo operates on ARM generally.
If your goal is just to check out WinMo 6.1, and not the X1's ROM, you can get the emulators from microsoft.
also not sure the current emulators support that funkey res
Thanks for your infos.
next question, then.
Using these emulators from Microsoft, would i be able to install 3rd party apps onto the WinMo running in the emulator, so i could see if they were any use to me?
Thanks in advance.
yes
you
can
Thanks a lot for a super fast reply.
I shall wander over to MS site, and hunt me down an emulator.
Need visual studio i think
no there is a stand alone emulator too
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a5-183a-4a1e-a7e2-cc500ed1f19a&displaylang=en
Thanks again for the input, people.
However.
I could not get the stand alone emulator to work, and ended up having to use a free 90 day trial version of Visual Studio 2008.
It is working fine on Vista home premium, and gives me exactly what i was looking for.
All being well, the X1 should be out before the 90 days runs out.
I dare say i shall be back with a few more questions soon.
Hope you are still feeling tolerant by then.
i could be wrong but i think
that visual studio express which is free
also include the emulator
I am very new to the Windows Mobile world, coming from a Palm Treo 700p (but please don't hold that agaist me). With my Treo, there was a program called PDANet (http://www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/) that allowed me to use it as a modem for my laptop. There is a version of PDANet for Windows Mobile (http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php) but I have learned there is another program that may be better, WMWiFiRouter (http://www.wmwifirouter.com/).
Again, I am new to Windows Mobile, so I do not know much about either program for this platform. For those who are, can you tell me which program you prefer and why?
How do the features and performance compare, does one do things that the other doesn't?
Forgive the newbie questions but thanks!
