XDA Mini S Bluetooth functionality query - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Does anyone know why I have virtually no bluetooth services other than headset and modem ?
Even my old Nokia 6680 could OBEX file transfer - Is this locked in the 'Wizard' by O2 ? Can it be tweaked ? I just want to be able to tx/rx files via bluetooth.
Whilst I'm on a rant !! LOL Why can't one activesync via WiFi to the desktop PC ? - Only BT or USB it appears.....D'uh ??
Thanks for any help.

I found this a couple of days ago via a search for the same issue:
You need to edit the registry.
Enable Bluetooth receive:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Obex\IsEnabled = 1 (DWORD decimal)

Apparently earlier versions of ActiveSync could do this, but MS removed it with later ones for "security reasons".

I found out that that reg tweak does the same as in Start-Settings-Connections-Beam. Tick the box receive all incoming beams and the setting in the registry switches from 0 to 1. I do not advise anyone to change it to a 1 in the registry, since that means that your infrared port is also active all the time, which is battery consuming. For receiving files, just tich the box in the settings-beam menu and you should be able to receive files. After receiving, uncheck it and the infrared port shuts down as well, saving battery power.

re
10x Koksie, I solved my problem. It is very stupid to turn OFF incoming
bluetooth transfers from IrDa control panel !!! I have IPAQ 3715 before with WM2003SE and there are not that stupid ideas ....

Oh, God. I spent months thinking that my BT stack was broken, only to find out that I had to enable OBEX-receive for Bluetooth via the IrDA panel and OBEX-send via the (previously IrDA-specific) "Beam" File Manager option.

Well, let me disagree. The additional battery consumption it causes is, in most usage situations, negligable. That is, unless you need to squeeze our every second possible and you can't recharge it for days, you can safely keep it on.
Please see my detailed power consumption tests at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1184&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 if interested

Bluetooth Questions

Hi.
I have Orange SPV M1000.
I have tried to get it bonded to a Logitech diNovo keyboard on my PC.
By trying to add it to Settings | Connections | Connections | Advanced | Select Networks | New (internet) | New | (a name : abc, a modem: bluetooth) Next | New... | My_PCs_Name | Next | Name: my_pcs_name |Finish
Then the pops 2 requesters up
1.) This bluetooth device supports Serial port profile, would you like to create a Bluetooth serial port for it? (My answer: both yes or no)
2.) This bluetooth device supports headset profile, would you like to set it as your bluetooth headset? (My answer : No)
I have tried this when Connections | Bluetooth | was set to both "Discoverable" and "On"
but apparantly to no avail.
What I would have liked to work was:
1.) bluetooth activesync
2.) browsing via bluetooth from my PC's connections
3.) filetransfer via bluetooth (might go under activesync)
But I seem unable to get it to work.
Does anyonw have some ideas for this.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards: Jacob Eskildsen / eskildsen
there is no one around here seems to know this
i have been trying to do the exact thing for a few days now, had no joy at all.
there is not even one person using this kind of connection? or just do bother to tell.
I can make PC side working. Internet Connection Sharing bit, and I can even PING my PC from XDAII.
can somebody here help. if you really did this yourself
activesync and internet through bt
I just got activesync and internet working through bt . But I'm not sure how I did it . I have no extra bt software on my phone. I have a usb BT dongle (MSI) and I paired both of the devices. In all the settings I made sure internet sharing was allowed, on the BT network. In activesync in options - rules Pass through is ticked with connection to internet.
On the XDA started activesync through bt and my computer accepted it, and started to sync, the internet then started to work. i think active sync needs to be on for internet to work.
I don't really know the precise instructions, wish I did because i've just lost the connection again, and it will most probably take me another hour to work it out. think this time I better write it down!!!
If you could sync via Bluetooth, then browsing and file transfer via Bluetooth are possible. I've been able to do all of them. Just make sure you choose the ActiveSync profile when you pair your Pocket PC with the Bluetooth device on your desktop PC. If the ActiveSync profile is not available, then choose the Serial Port profile. But afterwards, you would have to go to ActiveSync Connection Settings and manually select the serial port you created.
thanks for advice
I've been having problems, like many people. And I've did what they did. Downloaded bt tools and its working excellent : ). I'm writing this on my xda2, downstairs from my computer. I'm well chuffed. Thanks for your quick reply, it seems your using bt tools too.
Am I ever going to get the hang of this!! BT Activesync ???
I'm able to get Activesync and thus internet through BT, but if I stop bluetooth on my XDA2, and then turn it back on and try to sync, I get an error message, stating Port not available.
What going on? how do I make this port avaliable. I thought I could turn BT on and off without problems, is this not the case. Is my computer configured wrong?
Help!!
Replying to myself!!
OK my problem has been solved, I just turn the BT off and on on my computer.
But what I really want, is to be able to not have to change anysetting on my computer. I would like to be able to enter my house and connect to BT, and then turn it off if I want, and then back on, and then off, on ,off, on..... You get the gist, without have to go upstair to my computer each time.
Any ideas :?
Hi,
Take a look at the guides for bluetooth ActiveSync'ing....
HERE
Thanks
Thank you for that Darius, i'd seen that guide before but forgot where it was. It has helped me to get activesync going anyway. I have actually hard rebooted my XDA2 because my Jabra BT200 stopped working, actually the phone software also buggered up. would ring people but they coud not hear me. Think it may have been BT Tools  Which is a shame, I liked the desktop icons it gave.
At this moment in time I am in the process of restoring my data to my phone over BT, Just hope the BT200, will still work, because before it worked excellent a 100% of the time.
Ive read quite a few threads talking about changing the BT stack, for a more reliable one, but I'm worried about mucking the XDA2 up more.
My next worry is that I've ordered a BT GPS reciever, and I'm gonna try to get Tom Tom working with it, I'm sure I'm gonna have to read quite a few more posts to sort that out. I thought I was good on computers, I think I will have to rethink that altogether.

BTW Get a '?' next to the Bluetooth item the Qstarz BT-Q880 GPS... but it defo works on my PC.
Found this... http://www.bluetooth.jazztel.es/ - Going to give it a go...
Please download the latest version from the download area and install it. Just execute the installer. Afterwards you will find a new line for the power management on the today screen. Next time when you bond a Bluetooth device there will be an additional dialog after entering the pin and confirming the device name. Therefore you should first remove your device again if you bonded them already.
The "Today" screen
The icon on the left activates or deactivates Bluetooth. The clock symbol switches automatic power off for Bluetooth on or off. When activated (white backround as in the picture) then Bluetooth will be switch off after 60sec of inactivity.
The two battery icons on the right side let you switch between two profiles for auto power off of the PDA and the back light. For example you may switch to the second mode and adjust the settings to "always on" and "never switch back light off". Thereby you can switch the PDA with one simple to "always on" when you are in your car and want to use GPS navigation.
The profiles
Add your Bluetooth device as usual. You will get now a new dialog after the last step:
Please note that currently only the following profiles are available
Headset/Car kit Serial port ActiveSync Modem
Headset/Car kit
With this profile you may use your headset or car kit to make phone calls. Both headsets (headset profile) and car kits (handsfree profile) are supported and you may use up to 9 devices.
Bluetooth is switched on automatically on incoming calls. However it take some seconds until the connection to the headset/car kit is established. If you leave Bluetooth always on there is no delay.
The call is passed always to the device where you take the call. This means if you answer with the PDA button then the built-in speaker is used. If you used the headset button the call will be passed to the corresponding headset.
To pass the call from the PDA to the headset or from one headset to another just press button of the corresponding headset.
To hang up just press the button on the currently active headset or use the PDA button.
Obviously you can only dial via headset if you leave Bluetooth always on. The button on the headset acts like the phone button on the PDA. This means pressing it the first time switch the PDA on (if powered off) and switches to the phone application. Pressing the button again dials the last number.
Serial port
With the serial port profile you can use a device, which emulates a serial port, like a GPS receiver for example. After marking the checkbox you can select the desired port. Just click on OK and now your serial port is ready to use. Just start your application and choose the same port.
ActiveSync
Just mark the checkbox below ActiveSync and click on OK. Now start ActiveSync from the Start menu. There is now a new entry in the menu of ActiveSync to use the Bluetooth connection. Naturally this connection uses data encryption to protect your data.
Note: To use the ActiveSync connection you must identify the virtual port on your PC and configure ActiveSync accordingly.
Modem
I could not try this function because I don't have a Bluetooth modem but it should work without any problems. Just mark the checkbox and click on OK. Now your modem is ready to use.

You probably need GPS software that is compatible with Windows Mobile 5. However, most of them are not entirely updated to support WM5 just yet. I hear some people have gotten Navigon to work, and TomTom with a huge workaround. Destinator PN5 doesn't see the COM ports. iGuidance 2.1.3 works beautifully except for the map-loader not working through ActiveSync 4.x.

Followed
STEP 4 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 6 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 6 free. Select COM 6 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM (none)
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 6.
7. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
Manged to see the com port in Tomtom but would not get it to see the GPS.... I'm still wondering becuse of the ? next to the item under the BT Control pannel...... I'm wondering if for some reason it does not recognise this as a GPS and is refusing to talk to it.
That been said it does have serial profile and connects ok...

Hi,
You'll probably need to start bluetooth via the comm manager.
It will find other hardware with open bluetooth ports.
- Go to the file you wish to beam to someone else.
- Tap the file (keep the stylus on it untill you get the menu)
- Choose " send file" (this might be called differently, my version is dutch)
- Select bluetooth.
Good luck!

Hi,
The procedure I gave seems to work properly with my MDA.
You could check if the person you're beaming to has bluetooth (turned on) but I guess you've checked that already.
Otherwise try to minimize the distance between the two pieces of hardware.
If that doesn't solve your problem, I can't help you any further, maybe bring it by the shop where you bought it to have it checked?
Good luck & greetz,
Flar
yeah same here never managed to get bluetooth to work
i found that i needed to enable beam recieve in order to recieve on bluetooth, the incoming and outgoing port stuff i left alone.
so i can now receive files but haven't got a clue how to send them, i make a bluetooth partnership ok (my mate can then send me a file) but i can not find the option to send one back. the file explorer menu doesn't have bluetooth listed on it?

I am having this same issue. Anyone know the solution? All I want to do is send some files to my wife's v3 but I cant setup a new outgoing port. I am running the latest official rom from cingular.
You need to ensure you already have bluetooth turned on before starting this procedure (many miss this simple point, as they assume it will automatically turned on)
Tap and hold on the file you want to send, and select "Beam"
Wait a few seconds for it to scan for devices.
All IRDA recipients (If any) will be listed, and below them, all available Bluetooth recipients will be shown.
Hope this helps you m8
I'm using TMobile MDA, newest ROM, and having the same problem, I'm able to recieve bluetooth but there is no option for beaming a file via bluetooth, only IR... and yes, bluetooth is enabled properly and I am properly partnered with a V3...

Make sure both phones are enabled to be "seen" . My friend and I were trying to figure this out the other day, and she has her device set to something like 'make this device invisible' so even though our phones were next to each other, her device wasn't showing up. Once we changed this, both devices were visible.
***However, neither phone was allowing the sending of files to each other thru the bluetooth, and I'm wondering if this has something to do with her having a Sprint Treo 650 w/ Palm OS, and I have Cingular 8125 w/ WM5.... anyone have any answers for this one??***
Thanks in advance.

Bluetooth File Transfer

Hello Every1,
I would like to apologies first in case this topics has been already been talked about, but I could not find anything.
My V1605 has a problem if I trasfer file via bluetooth to my laptop or any pc with bluetooth I can do it but if I try to transfer the file from a laptop or a pc with bluetooth the pc say that it cannot find the service on my pda.
I've tryed modifying the registry:
HLM\Software\Microsoft\Obex\IsEnabled from 0 to 1
But eveytime I soft rest the PDA it goes back to 0.
I've try without soft rest but I stll cannot transfer file from my laptop to my PDA I've try changing the Registry and switch off the PDA for 10 minute then soft rest but I get the same thing the Registry goes back to 0.
Is the something that I',m missing to get the bluetooth to transfer both way or is it that this unit cannot do it??????
Please Help.
Thank You
Gigino
Settings > Connections > Beam > receive all
V
This is something very basic but thought to still write in case you are missing it.
Navigate to Start / Settings / Connections(tab) and open the 'Beam' icon. See if the checkbox 'Receive all incoming beams' is checked. This should be checked.
This is sometimes confused as being for infra red transfer only whereas this also applies to bluetooth file transfer.
Hope this helps

Send files using BLuetooth???

After upgrading to WM6, i can't seem to send files using bluetooth. There isnt any options in the file manager menu that allows sending files via bluetooth. U can only beam or send the file using infra. Does anyone encounter this problem or has any solution to it????
hello,
i think it's a little bug, you have to select send to --> via ir
than it will come a list with some possibilities, one of them is sending via blue tooth.
ich think it's an translation bug from the sending menu or something else.
Greetz
MonsyX
turn bean ant bt on, then select beam file and choose the bt device to which you want to send
Well I also can't send files by bluetooth :/ I'm doing what you said about Via IR but BT is not used and there is no option to use it :/
use resco explorer, it is better, you are right that there is no option for beaming via BT
For me, u just beam file and then the phone will detect BT devices. U may select the device and send.
Has anyone been successful in receiving and sending files via bluetooth with the beam off. I just noticed that if the beam off i can neither send or receive files via bluetooth. Can someone confirm this or its just my BA acting weird...

Do you refer to option "turn incoming beam off"? If you do, then i can't say it's not a bug, it's an option to save battery so you only turn it on when you want to receive/send files.
I hope it helps.
What i mean is you can neither receive or send files via bluetooth if the beam (infrared) is off.

I wonder krishan2207 if it resolves Vista Bluetooth Active Sync/WMDC problems. Active sync service is not listed among the options on any of my BT devices. Has anybody made breakthrough at syncing via BT?
I sync via BT. IIRC I had to create a BT com port on the PC to get it going on WM5. On WM6 it finds the ActiveSync service with no problems.

I found the Broadcomm stack 1.7 you were talking about but does this work correctly with wifi.
I remember the 2 of them weren't working together correctly.
Do you have any issues with your wm6 using wifi since you installed this buletooth stack?
