is this XDA exec 2 ??????? or MAGIC [dual screen] - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

hi everyone i am huge fan of the xda series curently i am using pda2k
and planning to shift to xda exec . But i was surprised when i got
an email from my friend rgd this device .
It looks like prototype named as MAGIC [has DUAL screen]
its a very sexyyyy.... device
just check this site .
http://www.advancetc.com/
enjoy

The prototype M.A.G.I.C. isn't HTC and don't have UMTS.
Best xda 8)

WOW! I like the design. Some thing to look forward to in the future. I just hope this goes into production.
The specs are nice too: http://www.advancetc.com/MAGIC_technical_specs.jpg

WOW I really really dislike this design. Its not even that greatly different from the jasjar yet the little things make this device (IMO) look horrid. And whilst its kind of like the pot calling the kettle black, this thing is Chunky Central.
Never the less some impressive specs and features, this company might have a different perspective on future communicators to bring to the market so fingers crossed they make it, even if I do loathe the looks of this particular device.

I'm sure I've seen this posted here before... as for size, well, what happened to nano-technology?

No VGA?
Why no VGA screen?? I don't think I'd go back to a non-VGA screen now after the Exec.
Integrated hard drive is cool though, and video accelerator....

HTC Hermes: good bye Universal

There's no way this is going to replace my Universal. I wouldn't even consider anything without a VGA screen at this point. Besides... I like the swivel screen that affords a larger keyboard.

Agree.
Hermes looks like the 3G replacement for the Wizard anyway.
Hoax photo - video cam spelled as 'vedio cam'
And it's a JAM style phone, not a 'true' XDA type phone.
No contest.

For me, there is a contest. I'll miss the VGA screen, but I think I can cope. I went from a JAM to an Exec for 3G, now there's no reason for me not to go back to the smaller size, especially since I have an aquapac and a RAM Mount holder all at the right size for my bike and GPS...
What's the going rate for a second hand Exec?
I dont know if its the same pic or not (too lazxy to click the link, and correct my spelling apparently)
But heres the pic of the Hermes I came across a month ago in another article.
In any case this is just a spiffed up 3G version of the Wizard, I dont see it as a competitor for the Universal.

For many, thnat's effectively what the Universal is.
(And a damned good one!)
What other good alternatives are coming?
I'd like a VGA but don't want to come back to the Universal as it's too big for me.
im not dealing with HTC anymore..the new one i bought crapped up on me 4days later. (white screen)
I think i will go Symbian OS

All hardware has a percentage of faults. Don't let one faulty device make you change to a completly different OS, you fool.
You obviously wnted a HTC Windows OS device for some sort of good reason.
Why not simply get a different Mobile Windows device?
Is that too easy?
Yeah, you are right. The screen that died on me has made me moody and thats not right. Infact WM 5 devices are of the advantage if you want to use it corporately..
Yes, in a corporate usage it is a must; although I also enjoy playing great games, which I'm not quite sure to get the same quality in other systems... There are also a huge choice of all kind of softwares available...
I can't imagine going for another OS.
I am considering the Hermes as well but I am waiting on the replacement for the Uni to come out [if HTC has something planned] before I make my decision final. I'd probably miss VGA as well I tried using a qVGA device again [hp iPAQ rw6828] and always ended up going back to the Uni's gorgeous VGA screen. I've since sold the iPAQ.
As for Symbian OS I think it depends on which variant of the OS, for now I'd stay away from the N series [3rd Ed of Symbian Series 60] as most people I know who got these mobiles complain that they're really slow... maybe the hardware needs to be updated by Nokia to support their *new* OS.
Ehm, hello? Hermes is a mobile phone with PDA capabilites and the Universal is a PDA (rather even a UMPC) with phone capabilities. These two are different kind of devices, as both are what they are in first place, but can never be perfect for what they are supposed to be in second place! I always wanted a replacement for my Psion Revo, with a keyboard big enough to actually write. And I do write with 6-8 fingers on my Universal, where as on the Wizard I can write with 2-4 fingers max - that makes a difference. Plus I can put the Universal on the table and put the screen in such a position so I can do video calls without having to hold the device - impossible with Hermes! Don't get me wrong: Hermes is a wonderful device for those who want a mobile phone with A+ hard- and software. But it can never be a replacement for those who want a UMPC they really can work with...

I have also got a lot of fresh air with the Uni, maybe the first time after leaving my Revo.
I'd say that both are PDAs with phone capabilities, and not a phone with PDA capabilities. However, the Uni is more focused on PDA (maybe 80% PDA 20 phone) and the Hermes is something like (60% pda 40 phone). HOwever, right now I'm after an Advance TC MAGIC. I'll miss my Exec's VGA though... if only we could upgrade screens to VGA at will... along with the appropriate OS tweaks, of course.
Is this the first release of it in the UK?
The Register reports on the Orange SPV M3100.
There's also HTC TyTN already out.
nope, not a universal upd8/upgrade/replacement as its not VGA.
yes, i do agree that WM PDA-phones r more PDA than phone as opposed 2 symbian devices w/c r more phone than PDA. d palm OS PDA-phones (treos) can b classified IMO as d more balanced PDA & phone. but im more of a PDA person than phone so i still prefer WM PDA-phones.
y doesnt HTC release another VGA PPC-phone? isnt d universal popular enough?

What next after the Uni goes to the grave?

Will yuo lot all get an HTC Omni?
I am thinking of it - I cannt go back to a norma phone now!
Even the tytn doesn't quite do it for me.
What do youse lot think?
lr
Well from what I understand, the Omni is still a concept...... So until I know specs, size etc I will reserve judgement. Altho the Tytn looks impressive I won't be runnning out to get one just yet. I was an early adopter for the PDA2k and the universal and don't relish the teething problems again.
That said, most software is WM5 compliant now and I have my uni running like a dream. As has been said before, I like both the form factor, VGA and the keyboard so will defo be interested if and whwn an omni materialise
well according to the dude in the know - the vp for mobile comms for micro$oft, it's the same form factor but thinner, lighter and with more h/ware buttons on it.
lol.
it can apparently output to a projecter too - tho that's nothing I imagime many users would cherish.
have a look on the mocado forums it's all on there...

I just love the size of it, it actually fits in my pocket! It's just as quick (albeit with a slightly slower processor) and I love the extra features that Gigabyte have supplied, such as answer phone, call recording, call background noises (great for pretending you're somewhere where you're not! ) and it's even got the gimicks of live analogue TV and Radio.
Gigabyte don't seem to offer good tech support, but if you've had one PPC... you'll know how they work. Also you get a spare high capacity battery, desktop charger, case, all as standard (With i128 version)
The screen is just as crisp, the speakers louder and clearer than the Uni.... I've started a thread about it here with more indepth info and pictures...

The VGA screen and clamshell design is important for me. So if the new phone can't surpass or can't match what the Universal have, I won't even bother looking. A while back, there was another thread showing a little specs for the Omni and the first thing I noticed was there was no mention of a VGA screen and 3G, If that is true, then it is more of a downgrade than upgrade.

Inclined to agree, woul also appreciate an improvement in battery life. I am fortunate, cause mine spend most of its life plugged into an active car cradle otherwise, I don't think I'd make it through the day!
Paul O'Brien, a Microsoft MVP and Admin of MoDaCo (which should give the following story some credibility) claims many HTC Universal's wishes have come true - HTC IS working on a Universal successor, a clamshell QWERTY phone device with a VGA screen. The device, code-named the HTC Omni, will be smaller and thinner, but sport more buttons.
It will have HSDPA, and will ship with AKU 3, which will allow projector functionality. Unfortunately one of the biggest requested improvements, a small external display, did not make it into the design.
Paul claims the design is still fluid, but if it is meant to ship at the end of '06 / early '07 this does not seem likely.

I wouldn't recommend this, it's not good for the battery, it needs to drain down otherwise won't hold it's capacity as well.

Time to sell your Hermes Boys !

More seriously it's high time HTC comes with a new product to replace Hermes & Kaiser... becaue this since just looks similar with better specs (while being way slimmer)
Yep I am buying the Xperia phone regardless of cost, it is so undeniably sexy and awesome.

I simply want something with VGA (or better) resolution. I don't care how good any browser is, when you are limited to QVGA, browsing is painful (IMO).
Sweet to see an 800x480 screen on this model.... hope that pushes others (including HTC) to move that direction.
I used to have a Dell x50v (VGA PDA).. I sorely miss the resolution, but wanted to cut back on the # of devices I carry.
batt life, batt life, batt life.
After the Hermes, there's not point having blazing fast 3G or video calling, or music streaming if I have to be tethered to a wall socket half the day.

Dout it, like how you won't see a Treo design with HTC brand. They're just manufacturing it, I'm sure design and everything else was Sony.

It looks sexy, but I'll just reflash my phone your Schapp's 10.0 which will probably incorporate the best parts of SE's new interface.
That's a sweet phone. If the battery life is good I don't see why I wouldn't trade in the 8525 for that.
Hermes still very value for money...
SE windows mobile phone... We'll see...
Well,
I better stick around a bit longer with my HERMES until the XPERIA has really hit the market and bugs were discovered! Even though it looks like a dream machine, keep in mind it is Sony Ericsson's first try of a Windows Mobile PDA phone!
Further: the OS is too new to be bug free, so, I know what I have with the Hermes, I am not sure what I will get with the X1 ...

i know the topic title sounds highly unprofessional but i'm just very excited because it seems that there's finally going to be a proper version (including landscape) of tf3d for the new htc touch pro 2 which will likely be ported to xperia from a pro/h4xor here at xda...perfect day
Yup it looks pretty good:

woohooo!
touch pro 2 is wonderful!!
love its full qwerty....
Seems like a pretty potent business phone. It also looks like all the tabs works in landscape.
Does look like TF3D will be doable in landscape then, that'll be nice.
I like the look of this phone, though the one thing I'll be waiting for is the same form factor (large 800x400 screen, covering practically the entire face of the phone, along with the hardware keyboard) with a bit more processor grunt behind it. The snapdragons should be about right I hope. Seeing all emulators up to SNES level working *flawlessly* would be a very nice proposition with a hardware keyboard. Maybe add a proper optical mouse style pad and I'd be sold.
Damn it. Is it really that hard to make a quad band UMTS phone like the Kaiser? Why UTMS 850 for US is again missing for both TP2 and Diamond2 (at least for the first batch)?
man I just traded my Touch HD for the Xperia x1... now I'm already considering this one. Its like combining the two phones. Can't wait until more reviews come out.
looking good! better than the "IDOU" (hope i spelled that right) i think, (or maybe i should be comparing the idou to the diamond 2 )...no 3.5mm jack though....i'm hoping the amazin devs here will be able to port that tf3d to the X1 as well!
That looks a nice phone, kind of wish id held off now on x1i. Guess ill just have to tinker with it for the next 18 months to keep me intersted. Definately sticking with winmo devices from now on

Is the SE Xperia really that bad ?

I'm considering buying an Xperia, mostly because it is much cheaper than HTC Touch HD (I'd love to have this device). But after reading diverse reviews on the Internet, I found a lot of complaints about the performance of the device (too slow,..), on the whole the review make a negative impression on me
Apparently this is just a software/firmware issue, which should be fixed with a new firmware upgrade. But what worries me most is Sony Ericsson might not ever bother to bring a new upgrade, or they will do but eventually discontinue support for the device and switch to Android, because Windows Mobile was probably a failed start for them.
Nevertheless it is very likely that I will buy the device because I know there is site on the Internet which calls xda-developers . So I am looking forward to hearing your opinions to make my ultimate decision
SE has already released upgraded firmware and from my experience I have to say the phone is quick... very quick... I have had it for about 4 or 5 months now and it goes from strength to strength... the only down side I would say is the keyboard, its different from my Kaiser/TyTN II but I am getting used to it and its working out... GPS is very fast at getting a fix (sooo much faster than my old phone its like a biplane vs a modern jet fighter) and the internet is awesome... so over all thumbs up from me, however I bet you will find negative and positive reviews... depends on the person using it and the reason they are using it I guess...
I have been owner of the X1 for about 6 weeks now and I am very satisfied. Of course, as any other device, it has some problems. This is what I don't like about it:
-Camera takes too long to capture, images get blurry if you can't hold the phone without ANY shaking (Camera Button is hard to press, which makes this difficult)
-Panel performance is poor
-Original audio recorder was removed, I believe, There is, however, a way to record with the built-in software: As a Voicenote. But you won't get a WAVE file or anything like this with it.
I've installed a lot of software meanwhile and BASICALLY performance is very well. The display may take some time to rotate when you slide it open. The biggest problem is, from my point of view, that, when you are answering a text message, it lags and you accidentally send an empty message. So you hit the Reply-Button with your finger, phone doesn't react immediately, so you think it didn't get it and you touch again, and it activates the Send-Button which will come in place of the Reply button, so you send an empty message. This has happened twice to me so far (I've sent about 100 msgs).
No other performance issues.
I can really recommend the phone. Features are fantastic and very well worth the price... This device is next-gen, a piece of future.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, it has no Ctrl-Key on the Slideout Keyboard. That's bad.
EDIT2: And just to convince you, I have running WMWIFIRouter on my X1. My phone provides me with WLAN through 3 walls over a distance of about 20 meters. Signal Quality on the Notebook is at about 40%. Isn't this crazy?
Thanks for your quick replies.
I'm a heavy "business user" although I'm still a student , it literally means that I've been using windows mobile devices only for its business functions (calendar, task, note, email, web...) and never care about other multimedia features.
The main reason for which I wanted to switch to Xperia (from HTC Touch) is its high resolution screen, still the screen seems to be relative small (3 inch), in comparison to HTC TOUCH HD.
I use smartphone to read ebook quite often, since HTC Touch HD and Xperia share the same resolution, does it really mean that Xperia can display the same amount of content as the HD does ? Or with the same content we will barely see anything on the Xperia because the screen is too small ? In case of an ebook, does it mean that the Xperia can display the same amount of words on the screen as the HD does and the page on Xperia is still readable ?
And what about those cracks, they look scared, I've just found several auctions on Ebay from people selling their cracked Xperia ...
I've just "accidentally" won a 1 month old Xperia on Ebay for only 300euro. Nevertheless I'm still waiting for your diverse opinions Just in the worst case I can resell it and save money for other device
Truth be told, I really want to keep this device ... waiting for positive reviews
I use my phone for reading all the time... usually for about 4 or more hours a day... in English and Chinese and its simply brilliant... clear and crisp... I was originally worried about the clarity, especially for the Chinese but find its just that good I am very pleased... as for cracks... I have not yet experienced this and from the various polls on this board it looks like it might be a minority from a particular colour (silver) and a particular batch... I have even dropped my phone a few times (each time filling my shorts that I had ruined my phone) but so far (touch wood) its still good...

Dont think this is limited to specific batches,
im on my 3rd device from a third batch (week 52 this time)
I now have 2 cracks, one on the silver trim and one near the volume button - this appears to be the common one...

Any idea how these cracks could ever happened It is not from the manufacturing obviously but rather the cracks develop over time ... The reason might be the metal case getting bigger due to temparature , thus crack the plastic ones ...

yes i agree with that, get a hd it's much better for your needs, the screen is so tiny in xperia you will regret later belive me.
Okay, HD and X1 share the same number of pixels. But X1 has smaller screen. So the conclusion is you will see the same amount of information on both devices. However, things will appear bigger on the HD - but sharper on the X1. For reading ebooks, the HD is probably the better choice. It depens on whetehr you are interested in a slide-out keyboard. I think that's quite useful for "heavy business users". And on the space in your pocket BTW I have no Cracks at all.

Ok, I dont mind if things are smaller on the X1 as long as they are still readable. I've never used a device with a keyboard before but I'm getting annoyed with the on screen keyboard of my current device, so a slide-out keyboard must be a plus.
On my opinion, the bigger screen of the HD is good for people who want to use it like an Iphone with their fingers. I'm happy with the stylus, so I think I will go for the X1
the firmware updates for the X1 are making the Xperia better and better (and more like the kickass phone it was supposed to be - check out the R3AA rom extracts under the TOuch-IT 4.5 rom thread!). Yes the screen is tiny, but the new Panels coming out + dedicated ppl like itje making custom firmwares makes this phone worthwhile
remember people tend to post on forums when theyre unhappy about something so theres goin to be a lot of negative comments and not as many positive ones to counteract them. as to the screen size, i use the built in opera browser to surf the Three website and everything is nice and readable. id imagine an ebook or pdf would be just as legible. and if you use it in landscape mode then the screen isnt much shorter than the average paperback book page. the X1 has the extra advantage of the optical mouse which would be quite handy for scrolling through pages. id recommend turning down the sensitivity one notch though.
i think my main recommendation is to not be too disappointed at first, theres so much software available to tweak and improve it so consider it a blank canvas. i wasnt too impressed when i got mine but now ive had a chance to customise it im much happier. everyday i find at least one new cool program to add
Xperia is practically same hardware as recent HTCs. It has same speed issues as HTC and vice versa.
If you want keyboard, I think Xperia is better then Touch Pro because it has 3.5mm jack.
If you don't want keyboard, I think HD is better because of the display.
Touchlo is good system, better then panels (IMHO), but it can be ported to Xperia, and many people does not use it even on HTC.
I say wait .. in a year there will be new WM, new faster devices, new Palm, and new iPhone maybe too.

My personal opinion for the regular crack near the volume buttons, is that this is caused by stress from the battery cover / removing the battery cover. anyone with that crack, push down on the nearest corner of the cover to the crack, the crack gets smaller.

28% for X1 is really great
i think the X1 is a great device, it has alot of plusses, some minuses.
mainly, it's not a multimedia device so don't expect much on graphics (although they work perfectly, but you can expect some problems from time to time). all other features are great, panels are good.
i have been using it for about 4 months, i bought it for 1000$, and i would say if time goes back, i WILL buy it again
previosly i have been using P910 & P1, they are both good, X1 is the best so far.
SE are really supporting the device, releasing updates, fixing problems.
the device came with R1A ROM, 3 months later R2AA08 was released, then they fixed some other things and released R2AA10 few weeks after.
i think SE are doing a great job supporting the device, they are doing their best to keep us happy, and most of us are.
the only problem of Windows Mobile is that it has lots of configuration and tweeks, install the wrong one or modify something wrong in the registery and you have to make a hard reset.
i LOVE my SE X1, and usually i have alot of arguments with friends who use iphone and it mostly ends with them hating their phones
hope i helped.
