Music player - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Is it possible for the wizard to continue playing music when in standby? or the best we can do is have the screen backgroung light timeout? Thanks

As I wrote in my review of the Wizard on TuxTops.com, it is unfortunate that there is no "hardware" lock button. There are two options you can have, but none is as good as a hardware lock slider would have been:
1. Use GSPlayer which has a "Turn Display OFF" menu option. However, the buttons are NOT locked during that time and so you can press stuff by mistake.
2. Use the built-in locking mechanism in the Today screen, which kicks in after a while. However, even on the smallest pressing of the screen or buttons, the screen will come up again (buttons will be locked, but still the screen will be ON again).
There used to be a very nice software called "ClearLock", that would turn off the screen and lock all the buttons on a PDA. Unfortunately, this doesn't work with the Wizard because Clearlock requires to press simultaneously the first and fourth button of the PDA to come back to life. And the Wizard does not use the traditional 4-button PDA layout, so after you get into lock mode with this utility, you can never bring back up your phone, until you soft-reset.

I use device lock...
choose the option to blank the screen...set it to a hardware button and your sorted
I listen to my MP3's with the device locked and the screen turned off

I use MortPlayer.
From homepage:
Screen saver (switch off display after some time or on button press) with optional button lock

i tried using tcpmp and mortplayer... i find that the equalizer in tcpmp is higher quality compared to mortplayer.
i used to use pocketmusic as well, but i find it very slow on the wizard when using high quality eq. so i used tcpmp instead.
all support turning off the screen except that tcpmp is only able to turn off the screen with a click of button (if assigned).

Did you guys know that you can put the device in standby mode and still play music? You can do it if you are using AD2DP. Yes, kiddies, it is possible.

I don't understand why this doesn't work on Wizard, while on Magician auto display off deactivate hardware buttons and touch screen as I expected :-(

Playing music on JasJam in sleep / standby mode

When i had my Wizard (k-jam) i would use TCPMP to play music through my Bluetake iPhono Mini Bluetooth Headphones. When i pressed the power button to enter standby mode the music would continue to play.
Now i have my nice new JasJam, i try to do the same however as soon as i press the power button it seems to enter a deep standby mode and the music stops.
When playing music i now have to remember to lock it everytime i put it in the belt holder or my pocket to stop opening applications and as the backlight keeps turning on it chews through the battery life.
So does anyone know of a way to keep music playing while in standby? Is this a hardware limitation of the Hermes?
Cheers
I am running the Imate Telstra (AUS) 1.3.1 ROM

I use mortplayer, this is one of it's many features
Thanks pof, i'll give it a go.
I'm still curious why this worked with TCPMP / WMP on a rom with same AKU (2.3) on Wizard but will not work on the Hermes. Sometimes i think HTC must be half asleep when looking at certain aspects of new devices..
Never had a wizard, but the BlueAngel had the same problem as the Hermes has...
wmp and spbpocketplus have this feature
if you assign a button to this in wmp, you can use 'screen toggle' and it both turns off the display and locks buttons except the dpad. I use this daily to play music. played for 5 hours today and down to 90%.
(i was on gprs at the time)
spbpocketplus also has a screen toggle function that you could use. it does exactly the same thing.

Thanks, i didnt even think about the Pocket+ screen toggle feature (i guess i was hoping for a reg hack). I tried the Pocket+ feature and it actually locks all buttons except power so this should sort me out.

I tried to assigned a button going through the WMP's options>buttons>toggle screen, but it did not let me. Do I have to install the spbpocketplus to accomplish this?
I had the SX66 before and now moved to the Cingular 8525. My SX66 was able to go to the standby mode while playing th WMP by turning the power switch off. The screen got dimmed and all the button except the power button became disable. I don't exactly remember why mine could, but mine had the latest ROM and etc. It was a nice function and I miss it...........

need help to link switch display to audio manager

Hi,
I found this program that allows you to turn off the backlight without having the phone in a sleep mode (called switch display). I am trying to link this program to audio manager so that when I listen to music the screen can be turned off but I can still use the audio commands easily. (My phone would not turn off because I use the exception on the S2U program for audio manager)
If it is not possible, maybe there is a way to use some registry tweak where instead of having the backlight being "off" through the phone program, it can be done by the switch display program. That way we can set it to turn off screen after let's say 1 min.
Any suggestions?
Anybody? Suggestion?
i use HTC's audio manager without S2U2, and when i listen to music it doesn't go into sleep mode but the lights go out... it's a default..
How is it set? I can't find any settings to do that. And my light never goes off (black) just dim.
Not sure if it is phone dependent. I have a tmobile wing with touch it 2.3 ROM on it.
go to power/screen settings and set everything you want over there. if it doesn't consider the exact thing you want i'm sorry..
Yeah not working, it dims it but it does not turn off the screen completely.
Use psShutXP and choose turn off display.

I can press the power button, but then I have to push it again if I want to do simple things like increase volume or change songs. With just the display off I can do this tasks easily.
Use psShutXP and choose turn off display

I am using it but I was tring to use it so that it could start automatically when using audio manager. I figured out I could maybe just map switch display to a button. Thaat's the best I can do
Personally I use WMP with VC, I love it! Very easy, but some people think I'm crazy when they hear me yelling NEXT into a headset.

Is it possible to turn off the LCD backlight on 614c?

I use my 614c as a Wifi-walkman using GSPlayer layer as a streaming audio player. This works well, however the battery life is very short because the phone never turns off the backlight but rather only dims it down. GSPlayer has a turn off display option which turns off the LCD but not the backlight. I suspect that this feature works correctly on other PDAs turning off the backlight but on 614c it just dims down.
Has anybody successfully been able to turn the backlight off while the phone is active? There is the "standby" mode where it turns off the backlight but that means that the phone just sleeps and it looses its wifi connection. You can't use this mode while listening to MP3s.

May be you can try Slide 2 Play and use this trick :
The behaviour of S2P can be altered by changing the following registry values stored at \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\A_C\S2P\
- OffLCD - the no. of timeout seconds that S2P will turn off the screen when using battery; default is 25.

Does Slide 2 Play support steaming audio? I couldn't find anything about that in the specs.

screen off while music plays using headsets

I know this old and is a common problem but have searched Google, XDA-Developers, Xpansys and other forums without a working solution...
I have the TYTN II... when playing music either WMP or HTC Audio Manager the screen only dims. Side power button only dims and will NOT shut screen off from any application while music playing. The button works when music is not playing or headphones not plugged in. I even tried my bluetooth stereo headset and same problem while playing music.
I tried other apps like SPB PocketPlus (screen toggle), MortPlayer and PSshutXP with button assignments as well as a few other suggested "fixes" with no success. The results are the same. Even the power off buttons in these programs only dim my screen.
This used to work (side power button) but after installing some apps I noticed this problem. Unfortunately can't pinpoint exactly when it started. Not sure if they are the culprits. Apps that were installed...
walking hotspot
vsdraw
phonex
pocket mechanic
miriam webster
I also unistalled Phonex because I thought it was causing my phone to shutdown but later found out my battery is heading for the graveyard (almost 1.5yrs). I later reinstalled Phonex.
I did find a reg fix to keep music playing while off but without headset. Once a headset is plugged in or BT connected, then screen only dims.
wav1=0 in System\CurrentControlSet\...\Unattended key
UnattendedPlayback=1 in Software\Microsoft\Media Player\Preferences key
I have spent at least 12 solid hours over the past week looking for a fix with no working solution. I really don't want to resort to ROM flash since I may not be able to re-install some important apps. Anyways... anybody with a registry (or other) fix on this?
PLEEEEASE help!!! I travel intensively and listen to audio teachings while on the go.
TYTN II screen off solved!!!
Praise the Lord!!! found a solution that works! ...just can't remember the post anymore where I found this answer to give credit to the guy...
Well, just put this little screen saver .exe file on your device somewhere and then would be best to put a shortcut in the StartMenu. When you want to turn the screen off (i.e. during playback) then go to Start Menu and click the link. Works like a charm.
View attachment Scrsaver.zip
I use psShutXP to turn off my screen for problems like that. It does similar things, but also contains button to soft reset as well as turn off the screen.
coreplayer has the option built in and is a better player as well
you can assign "blank screen" to any hardware button
i assigned it to the space bar as i have one of my hardware buttons bring up the input panel
works with bluetooth and btaudiotoggle
if audio is the main goal...coreplayer should be your answer
i just use s2p (slide2play)
LOVE IT!!!!!
plus i use s2u (slide2unlock)
so when I start up my music.. hit the power button and music stays running but device turns off and locks... grab phone and hit power button you can control the player but not dial out or anything until you slide to unlock again....
screen only dims when playing music
The screensaver fix works but found out (in the dark) that the screen only goes black and not off. There is still a faint back light so some power is still being consumed. Has anyone found a registry fix?
All these other options listed in this post still only dim my screen while headphones plugged in. It works well when no headphones in use... There must be a registry key I can edit.

issue with screen off and the physical buttons

I noticed that when the screen is turned off while the phone is still running, e.g. playing music in the background, the physical buttons can only be used to turn on the display. i.e. I cannot use any of the buttons, including the volume keys to do things like volume control while the screen is off.
This is different to HD which I previously owned. Is there anyway to overcome this?
if you're using htc's music player tab with the stock lockscreen, the volume buttons should control the volume (at least it does so in the stock USTmobile rom)

Unfortunately I am using none of those. I am using PocketPlayer and S2U2.
I have added PocketPlayer to the exception list in S2U2 but I don't think it's a S2U2 issue. I think HD2 just require the screen to be activiated first before it will process anything else.
S2U2 somewhat breaks the volume control. You should have a look in the S2U2 thread, if I remember well there was some fix. I use S2U2 and S2P, and I can't set volume when any of them is focused, I need to turn screen on, unlock, minimize S2P before I can set volume. I didn't take time to look into the fix yet as I have a volume control on my headphones so it doesn't bother me much, phone volume is always at 80%.
