Listening to music in standby mode ? - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

Firstly, a big thanks to everyone for all their help. As a relatively, well, simple user this forum has been great.
Something else I was wondering was that on my old pda it was possible to listen to music with the screen off (to save battery). It seems on the Atom this is possible as when I put it in standby mode the radio remains on, however when I try this using Media Player or TCPMP the music stops.
I have noticed that music does continue if I turn the backlight off, however as this does not seems to completly turn (the screen or the backlight) off, the battery is still used more than in standby mode ..... any ideas ?

It's possible that the radio is just independant hardware, like the phone (eg on the magician you can switch the phone to standby and still remain in a call).
But TCPMP etc are running software, so I think the best you'll get is screen off for those apps. There are certain power saving features you could implement, but screenoff is probably best for saving juice.

Hmmm ... seem to of missed the obvious with my own question. TCPMP comes with the option to assign "Screen Off" to a hotkey within the settings menu. With this done I can turn the screen off completely, keep the music (and phone) running and save precious battery life.

Playing music on JasJam in sleep / standby mode

When i had my Wizard (k-jam) i would use TCPMP to play music through my Bluetake iPhono Mini Bluetooth Headphones. When i pressed the power button to enter standby mode the music would continue to play.
Now i have my nice new JasJam, i try to do the same however as soon as i press the power button it seems to enter a deep standby mode and the music stops.
When playing music i now have to remember to lock it everytime i put it in the belt holder or my pocket to stop opening applications and as the backlight keeps turning on it chews through the battery life.
So does anyone know of a way to keep music playing while in standby? Is this a hardware limitation of the Hermes?
Cheers
I am running the Imate Telstra (AUS) 1.3.1 ROM

I use mortplayer, this is one of it's many features
Thanks pof, i'll give it a go.
I'm still curious why this worked with TCPMP / WMP on a rom with same AKU (2.3) on Wizard but will not work on the Hermes. Sometimes i think HTC must be half asleep when looking at certain aspects of new devices..
Never had a wizard, but the BlueAngel had the same problem as the Hermes has...
wmp and spbpocketplus have this feature
if you assign a button to this in wmp, you can use 'screen toggle' and it both turns off the display and locks buttons except the dpad. I use this daily to play music. played for 5 hours today and down to 90%.
(i was on gprs at the time)
spbpocketplus also has a screen toggle function that you could use. it does exactly the same thing.

Thanks, i didnt even think about the Pocket+ screen toggle feature (i guess i was hoping for a reg hack). I tried the Pocket+ feature and it actually locks all buttons except power so this should sort me out.

I tried to assigned a button going through the WMP's options>buttons>toggle screen, but it did not let me. Do I have to install the spbpocketplus to accomplish this?
I had the SX66 before and now moved to the Cingular 8525. My SX66 was able to go to the standby mode while playing th WMP by turning the power switch off. The screen got dimmed and all the button except the power button became disable. I don't exactly remember why mine could, but mine had the latest ROM and etc. It was a nice function and I miss it...........

Toggle Screen Off Not Working

I have stock Telus ROM and have one of the options set in WMP to "toggle screen off". This previously worked and would completely turn the display ONLY off, allowing WMP to continue playing.
Additionally, I was using an EXE app called "ScreenOffArm", which would do the same thing in any setting (IE: listening to streamin music).
NOW, with both of these tools the display only dims to about 50% rather than turn off completely like it did before.
Any ideas, suggestions what may have caused this malfunction to happen? In Settings/ System/Power/ Backlight I have "Auto Adjust Backlight" checked and in Advanced I have "turn backlight off" unchecked and "turn off device" set to one minute. These settings have not changed.

screen only dims when playing music
I have the same problem on my TYTN II... when playing music either WMP or HTC Audio Manager the screen only dims. Side power button only dims and will NOT shut screen off from any application while music playing. The button works when music is not playing or headphones not plugged in. I even tried my bluetooth stereo headset and same problem while playing music.
I tried other apps like SPB PocketPlus (screen toggle) and PSshutXP as well as a few other suggested "fixes" with no success. The results are the same.
This used to work (side power button) but after installing some apps I noticed this problem. Unfortunately can't pinpoint exactly when it started. Not sure if they are the culprits. Apps that were installed...
walking hotspot
vsdraw
phonex
pocket mechanic

I also unistalled Phonex because I thought it was causing my phone to shutdown but later found out my battery is heading for the graveyard (almost 1.5yrs). I later reinstalled Phonex.
I have spent at least 10 solid hours over the past week looking for a fix with no working solution. Anyways... anybody with a registry fix on this?
PS I did find a nice fix for photo quality during my search. Just thought I'd share that... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375101

Wunderradio

When i am playing this marvelous streaming radio i cant play it for very long. Because my device goes off in a couple of minutes. I know you can change that with the battery configurations. But i can only set it to like 5 min. Is there a program that can turn your light on for a amount of time. (the time you configure it)
Thx in advance
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you want to keep the HD out of standby, but turn off the screen? You can do that with a couple programs. I think the easiest implimintation would be Gyrator or changeScreen, and just have the program turn off the screen when the device is flipped upside down. This should allow u to continue to listen to the radio but not drain the battery from having the screen turned on.
Ill try that, thx

audio stops playing when display is off

I'm using elfin running WM 6.1. The prob is that when i play a song in the audio manager and try to switch of the phone's display, the song stops playing. I used to do this in 6.0 and unfortunately this is not working in 6.1!(just to save power) Any thoughts on this?
bumpp... in no one's mind..?!!
Well... when the display goes off, the phone goes into a kind of "standby" mode, all in a effort to conserve battery power... even the wireless is turned off =)

the reason why i posted this doubt is that, when i was using 6.0, the audio used to play even when the backlight is off.. now this is not happening in 6.1..
Yes, audio usually stops playing when the screen is off, its normal.
Some programs like coreplayer allow you to go the menu and press on the key that says, Turn off backlight, which will allow the music to continue to play.
If you use the Onyx ROMS, press and hold the power button and click on backlight.

Screen Not Dimming With Auto Shut Off Disabled?

Please bear with me as this may be a dumb newbie question. I searched every post on the Imagio section here and at PPC and was unable to find an answer.
Got the Imagio for my wife and she's loving it (we had Storms previously- bad, bad mojo). She uses Groovefish to stream music and the stock dimmer setting will shut down the player after the time limit is reached. No problem, right? Changed the setting to stop this (never auto shut down on battery power).
Now, the screen will dim somewhat when left idle, but never shuts down all the way. It's dim but still active. She's been having to change the setting every time in order to not kill the battery.
Should the screen power down all the way while leaving the device active (like hitting the "shut off screen option" after holding the end button)? If not, is there a way to do this?
Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide. I've done nothing but Blackberries for years and this is my first real foray into WinMo.
Try to check the power settings. Go to the Settings Tab and push All settings at the bottom. From there go to System > Power > then click the Advanced tab. That should have settings to turn off the screen after 1 min or 30 seconds.
Thanks for the quick reply. I probably should have been a bit more clear.
It is in that menu that I have been manipulating the settings. There are two options for battery power. There is one to "turn off backlight" after x amount of time, the other is to "turn off device". With backlight set to 30 (or whatever) and device disabled, the screen never completely goes off.
It functions properly with "turn device off" enabled, but interrupts Groovefish when playing. This does not interfere with the native TF3D media player. While its not the end of the world if she ends up having to change that setting to use the program, it would be nice to be able to disable the screen with a partial shutdown (and extra battery drain when using that application).
Cheers!
Thats interesting, seems like its the program thats doing that. I have Opera, FM radio, email client, etc. running all day without it crashing. I have seen this before with Internet Explorer where i would leave it running connected to a website. then when i check back IE is gone and i have to start it again. By any chances is this a website or an installable app that you are using?
Groovefish is a streaming music client that is installed on the device
BTW, it is incredibly cool if you don't have it yet. Stream just about any song you want for free (legally).

I use g-trigger to shake my phone to turn off the display works great! Just disable the shake to turn it back on.
I'll give it a shot and see if the application stays running. Many thanks!
Actually I think backlight off is happening when it "dims". You need the screen to go off, not just the backlight. Try using xdaShutdown to go into Lightsout mode and see if that works for you. The program can be found here:
