Hi All,
I use my vario and prophet on wifi at work and home. In some parts of my house when the signal from my Router is weak, it will automatically keep trying to connect to my neighbours Router.
Is there any way to disable this auto search so that my device only connects to my router and no other ones?

Hi
I have a WiFi network at home (802.11g), the network does not broadcast a network name and also has 64bit WEP security active.
When I turn on Wirless Lan On I cannot find my network.
When im out and about and turn Wireless Lan On, I can connect to any network thats available.
Has anyone got any ideas how i can setp up my PDA to work with my Wireless Network at home?
Many thanks
Matt
Hi,
Got my Jasjar today and very happy with it. I am in and out of a LOT of Wifi zones daily so was wondering if there is a way, when WiFi and GPRS are both on and im in a WiFi area all net connections use WiFi not GPRS/3G if both are active.
I did a test and it seemed my messenger program was still using the GPRS connection when on the WiFi Network.

I need to get a proper answer - but I have discovered this.
I walked home from work the other day on MSN using 3G.
I arrived home, and the unit picked up my WiFi signal and connected.
I then dropped the phone (radio) link using the control panel.
The MSN connection remained active, and I remained on WiFi even when bringing up the phone radio again. WiFi was definately being used in this instance.
I wasn't able to tell whether or not this would work WITHOUT turning the phone part off and back on again.
Yeah that is whats happening here. I put on GPRS monnitor and set it to watch the GPRS connection only and hit my WiFi spot, even when wifi was connected it was still using the GPRS to send/recieve internet data. If I then turn off GPRS the it carrys on as if nothing had happened on Wifi.
With the cost of mobile Data these days it really should always default to a connected WiFi connection if its available and not the GPRS/3G connection.
I suppose a utility that disconnected GPRS when a WiFi connection becomes active would effectively do this as once you are out of the WiFi spot GPRS would be initiated to make connection.

I know that it's possible to use the Wizard as a bluetooth modem, using your gprs as the active signal.
Since the Wizard supports WiFi aswell, isn't it possible to use the Wizard to connect to a WiFi network and then sharing that connection over bluetooth.
The reason behind this is that I recently moved and we're sharing a wifi connection in this house. But my signal is very weak in my room, but the kitchen next to my room has a signal strenght of over 70%.
I know that buying a better router of signal enhancer would do the trick, but we're poor students
Theory says yes, but I have asked this same question without much luck or a definitive answer.
I have been trying to do the same with a laptop, bluetooth and my lan connection.
Apparently, you need to configure the outgoing bluetooth device, in this case the PDA, to act as a proxy server.
When I linked my laptop to my desktop over bluetooth, it creates a PAN (Personal Area Network). Its IP was set at 169.254.x.x
A LAN networks at IP's of 192.168.x.x and XP wouldn't let be bridge the two together. (Because of the IP differences.)
It would be the same scenario for the PDA.
I am relaying what I have basically learnt but have no idea of which way to take it now so if you have any luck, please let me know.
Hello,
Im having major issues getting my O2 Xda Minis working on wifi.. Anyone got it working on this.. im havin awful problems configuring it to browse via wifi.. When i go to the comms manager it picks my netgear up but refuses to connect to it.. ive tried with WEP and WPA-PSK encryption but its just not having it.. any ideas?? does it even work with the netgear DG834!!
cheers

I have mine working with a Netgear 624. The problem may be that you need to upgrade your wireless router ROM for support. EDGE is good enough for me, so I dont use the WiFi too much. it is nice to have. Also if your wireless is a G make sure you have the registry hack for it.
shouldn't have to do anything at all. I turned my mini s on and it immediately picked up my wireless netgear modem router DG834G and I was surfing straight away. Don't advise you to upgrade rom thats a load of crap! sure to end in disaster imo just take a look at the number of probs people have on here when they do that.
Have you set it up for LAN connection?
You should have a shortcut to your conections manager on the bottom taskbar. Check you have the wireless connection activated
select Start, settings, connection, Lan and tell us what your settings are ?
Mine has
SSID netgear
Mode Infrastructure
BSSD 00-09-5b-CE-35-**
TX Rate auto
channel 11
signal good
Hi I have similar issues with WIFI and my netgear.
All is as above but on CH 6 and different BSSID
It seems to connect OK then with strong signal etc but then i try and go to a web page and its slow or doesn't find it.
Then another time its as fast as hell with no problems.
Checked all settings on Netgear and on MDA Vario and all seem to be ok.
Any ideas please
At the moment just connected. surfing via WIFI very fast for 7 pages now come to a dead stop but still have strong connection.
:x
I meant to upgrade the ROM on the Netgear router, not the MDA. At least check your router help section for possible conflicts and issues.
Hello All,
I need your help as i cannot find my home wifi network, i found other networks but not mine, even if i;m beside the wifi antenna.
The router is a Baudtec
Thanks
have you set your router to hide the ssid?
