Hello! Is it possible to write an app, that switches GPRS totally off when on a roaming network? I've got the following problem. I live in the south of the Netherlands, about 5 km from the German border and 10 km from the Belgium border. In the Netherlands i have a flatfree Internet subscription (GPRS and Wifi hotspots). Therefor i have set up the e-mail accounts on my HTC Wizard to check for new mail every 15 min. Besides that i use TomTom Navigator with a dutch plugin which checks every 15 mins for new mobile radartraps on the road. 8)
Due to me living in the border area between belgium and germany i'm often in those countries. When i don't change my e-mail check and tomtom settings it get's very expensive! Is it possible for a program to detect that i'm on a foreign (roaming) network? (Maybe it's useful that i get a little triangle in the top bar when roaming). And when detected a foreign network, totally switch of GPRS (or switch to non-working settings). Maybe one of the developers here could see in to this (when you've got spare time ofcourse )

Ok, my network name shows up wrong on my wizard and I was wondering if there is any way of changing it?
I am subscribed with our local operator Wave Telecoms. They are a subsiduary company of Jersey Telecoms and actually use the same frequency etc in both of their networks (means I can roam between networks at no extra costs )
For some reason, my wizard shows my operator as Jersey Tel UK, rather than Wave.. Is there any way I can change this? It always used to say wave when i used the SIM in my old Sony Ericsson....
Also - is there any way that you can show cell broadcast messages on the wizard. I can't seem to find the setting anywhere - or even where it would show on the phone.....
For cell broadcast open your dialer with the green button, click menu, than options, then the tab named more. There is an option to enable cell broadcast channels.

i to m from guernsey and you are correct. about a month ago it show wave now is JT GSM.so you are not alone.wave cell broadcast on channel 50 and the only thing tha it broadcast is network name every 5 minutes as a message .it becomes very anoying.
A new symbol has begin to show on my phone. Its the triangle shaped one in the top of the screen. To the right of the text "TELIA S Telia".
Anyone who knows what the symbol means?
normally that means that your X1 is in Roaming - that you are using another operator than you default operator.
i have this symbol all the time, while i am driving through Germany or Italy and logged in to one of my home-network's roaming partners
While using 3G in Sweden you can be on another operators net without extensive charges. They have a roaming agrement because they use oneanothers cell stations, e.g Telia - Tele2. The problem is that WM sees it as roaming and displays it as such.

Not that I know of, except turning off 3G and only use GPRS.
Anyway, it's only the symbol thats annoying, unless you use some program that prevents data connection when roaming. The price is still the same.
Every time I go abroad I turn off the automatic update features of these programs.
Ok, so you know the roaming icon, appears next to WiFi, looks like an upward arrow, a point, a steep mountain if you will.
Well, I'm in norway, on a norwegian SIM, but the roaming icon still is constantly on?
And, my MMS is set to "recieve automatically in home network", obviously I'm not in my home network then, because I have to manually confirm and download mms'es.
Any Ideas?
No worries, I figured it out.
Turns out the Norwegian operator Tele2(which is swedish originally) has it's central in Sweden, so although I'm on norwegian network, all traffic is routed via sweden. No extra costs though, only "problem" is the roaming icon, and no use of "automatically in home network"-setting - if anyone else has similar issues
I have it to,
My profider is Telfort which uses the network of KPN Netherlands.
Because of that i'm always roaming in Holland to but without extra costs as in roaming in a foreign country.
Hi,
I got a problem that makes me crazy.
I leave in Switzerland, near the border with France.
As in Switzerland GSM transmitter have lower power than in France, my HD2 switch very often to french network and don't come back to home one (even when home network is stronger than french one).
In phone settings, I set "network selection" to Manual.
But phone seems to ignore this settings, and as soon as home network is unavailable, it switch to roaming, without asking ... And never come back to home network till roaming network is unavailable too (which is rare, due to stronger power).
Any one got an idea why manual network selection is not working ?
For your information, I always had this problem since I got a HTC with WM5/6
(got it with my Touch and my Diamond)
Another option could be to completly disable roaming (any way can be used), and when travelling, I can switch roaming back on.
Is this possbile ?
Thanks

A little up, in case someone got a response
