if i have htc universal w/ tomtom 6.0.10 on it & it works great....but I dont want to always connect to the BT GPS receiver....I just want to use it kinda like a typical here to there map but w/out the instant GPS updates & locations & stuff....how can I turn it off?
if i just leave the BT gps out of range, TT6 won't work...it continually trys to searc for my device....
any advice would be great.
thanks,
GMP
I guess you are out of luck. The program simply wasn't designed to be used in that way.
thats ok....i just thought in the website info it was saying u could use it in a non-gps way......& i just couldn't figure out how.
so thanks for the reply,
gmp
I'm not sure about TT6, I'm still using TT5.
I use TT5 that way sometimes by going into the menu (just tap the screen)
then select the next arrow to browse the page.(i'm using a Dutch version, so I have to translate the best I can).
Then I select view map, top right option. I'm then presented with a map view on which I can zoom in/out and scroll. Als you can set waypoint or search streets by selecting the magnifying glass.
Hi,
Don't connect your bt gps like another bt gps but like a wired gps with right port com. And TT doesn't manage your bt anymore...
Hi,
I own a GlobalSat BT328 (http://www.buygpsnow.com/GlobalSat-...-Performance-Bluetooth-GPS-(BT-328)__916.aspx)
I turned bluetooth on, made my 8525 able to discover other devices, I made a partnership with the BT-GPS-335A64 (no idea why it has a different name here), I then opened a new COM port called BT-GPS-335A64 (COM0).
I have my bluetooth device on, and I loaded up google maps. I tried to track my location..I don't need a fancy GPS device. I just need to be able to see where I am on a map.
Google Maps is not able to find my GPS reciever. How is this? My 8525 found it. I have no other way to even test if the GPS works or not. I don't want to spend money on a tomtom or anything. I just want to track my location and google maps sounded like a good idea.
Any suggestions? This bluetooth device is supposed to work with the 8525. It found it, but not sure why google maps can not.
Thanks =)
Change the com port to com4
I did that but Google Maps is still unable to find the GPS reciever even though I have them right next to each other. It is strange because my 8525 was able to locate the GPS when I partnered them in the settings and all.
Any other reasons why this might not work?
If you've never gotten a fix with that GPS unit before, it could take 10 minutes or more for it to determine its current location. Make sure you are in a clear area, and give it a good 10 minutes to make sure it has a fix before giving up on it. Also, you might try downloading a program called VisualGPSce, which shows the current satallite status and signal information, and you'll be able to watch it as it works on getting the fix.
HTH
Brian.
I downloaded that program. It says "Fix not available". I'm going to let it run and see what happens. I am trying this inside my dorm room, but I'll try it on the road tomorrow. I just hope I can get it to work.
If nothing shows up after 10 minutes then what should I do? Is it possible the GPS device is no good? I'm not asking for a lot out of it. I just want to see my location in case I get lost somewhere.
..I waited about 10 minutes and my GPS auto shut off. The 8525 never found a fix with that program.
Edit: I searched and people have got that device to work with the 8125 before, but I haven't seen anything about the 8525. I want it to work so bad.
I picked up a Bluetooth GPS unit for £18. It's a 44 channel unit and does a cold boot in 20 seconds, warm boot in 4 seconds, and a hot boot in 1 second. Lasts for like 3 months on standby and 20 hours when in use. I've even had it working when it's been sat in the passenger footwell and inside a house (by the window)
All in all a great little unit.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FASTEST-44-Ch...yZ156955QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I have the garmin mobile XT unit. it works great with the garmin software that came with it. what i have noticed, but haven't tested, is that it cannot pair with both google maps and the garmin software. this doesnt seem to effect you however.
i must say that i was able to ONCE and only ONCE out of many attempts get the GPS unit to come up on google maps. so it can be done, dont give up. it was neat to put it in satellite mode and see where i was. i agree it should be a lot simpler to do this, i think it was truly dumb luck the one time i was able to do it because each time i go back to try again it is not working. most GPS will pick up signal from a window, so its probably not that.
not sure if this is WM6 only, but in my setting>connection>external GPS there are a few options to tinker with.
GPS program port
GPS hardware port
and then the manage GPS automatically option
i feel like the first time i did get it to work, i never went into this menu. however the second time i tried, it gave me a message saying that the program and hardware ports could not be the same. then the third time i tried, it let them be the same, but still didn't work.
so unfortunately all i have to offer are a few tips to try and look at. i dont know enough about it to tell you what will make it work.
if you do get it to work please post back and let us know! i would love to be able to let my nav software run in the background and dictate for me which turns to make while i watch the world around me whiz by via satellite view =]

Inside your dorm room? At least tell me it is sitting on a window sill or somewhere that it can actually see the sky? If not, I'm not surprised it isn't working. For the first fix, take it outside where it can see as much of the sky as possible.

I set it to com port 4 and then had to go into the bluetooth settings and create a new com port and called it com port 4 and bingo everything started working.
Google Maps locates the GPS and position
TomTom found everything instantly when I set my GPS up in TomTom under com port 4.
Even WiFiFoFum is tracking everything perfectly.
I bought a JRT-29 for $61 it was one heck of a good deal. 42ch, Bluetooth reciever, included a car charger and usb cable. http://www.gpswindow.com/en/picture.asp?idtype=JRT28 (sorry the website sucks and I can't find the ebay auction that I bought it from)
My experience is that most of the GPS software is not designed to work with Com0... So, glad to hear change to Port 4 solve the problem.
Strange..I went near the window and the program GPSInfo (http://www.usglobalsat.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=25) went crazy showing me numbers and stuff. This was with COM4: 4800. All of the weird numbers stop when I turn my GPS unit off..but it still says no fix on that program.
Google Maps is still unable to track my location when I put it to find my settings or when I put it to COM4 4800..
VisualGPSec was unable to find a fix too.
So still no luck yet..
I got my Garmin gps10 working on my 8525 running WM6 today and thought I would share what I found.
Step 1: Pair the 2 devices (noticed with my Garmin I have to go in and refresh the services every time I turn the GPS unit on and off)
Step 2: Set your GPS outbound com port (I used 4 thanks to the help of this post)
Step 3: WM6 options Start>Settings>Connections>External GPS
Program Tab setting "com 5" or any other free one. VisualGPSce showed my other com ports used (1: Serial IR, 3: IrComm, 6: Serial, 7: Serial_BTUR)
Program Tab settings "com 4 4800" Or whatever you set your BT com port to and baud rate your device uses
Access Tab "check Manage GPS automatically"
Step 4: Set Google maps tracking to use WM6 settings
Step 5: Checked the "Track Location"
One other thing I noticed while using VisualGPSce I could not choose com 4 I had to use SER04: and instantly got connection to my Garmin.
Hello every body,
Can anyone know if TomTom is ok in htc touch dual?
If yes, can anyone give me a link, were i can download it, and recent map of europe?
best regards
I have TomTom 6 Navigator running fine on my Touch Dual, using a Qstarz BT318 external GPS. There were no problems during installation. Although it is a little awkward having to carry the external GPS, at least it has its own 1100 mAh battery so both devices last a long time in GPS mode.
I couldn't find the TomTom software available to download anywhere (legally). I bought the DVD from this company: http://www.digital-fusion.co.uk/
Item: 1T90.015
Quantity: 1
Product: Tomtom Navigator 6 Software + Maps Of Western Europe Dvd Unit Price: GBP 60.81 (Excl. VAT)
Very impressed by the TomTom software - even with a 2.6" picture, the 3D view is very usable whilst driving.
Thank you very much
Best reagards
if you want to be "naughty" then searching will get you where you want. We can't provide links here I don't think, but all the usual torrenting sites have it.
My (bought) copy, weirdly, boots up when I switch my phone on - it's not in the startup but it does anyway. Perhaps cause I took the shortcut off my home screen?
Also, one thing to be aware of - if your phone is in vibrate mode, and you start Tom Tom, when you have finished & later set your phone to non-vibrate, you'll find it's muted your ringer volume. I missed loads of calls before I realised what the culprit was.
Other than that it works fine on my touch dual, with a similar GPS antenna (incidentally, just posted elsewhere that my battery on my antenna just lasted since Sunday afternoon (it's not Thurs eve) since I didn't realise I'd left it on. A bit astonished at the battery life of the thing!!!
Garmin XT also gets good reviews, some claim it's better.
no problems here w the tom tom.
just take into account the mute fact.
anyway the external gps takes longer than other devices to work fine. the com ports are more complicated than i thought. but nothing u cant solve in a day or two.
i cant put a shortcut in my homescreen. anybody knows how to?
thanks

shortcut: look in your today screen items - it's in there.. or should be... in fact it should've appeared by default
em, i found the ext gps easy... just use "other"... NMEA... I think.. took 5 mins to work out.
let me know if you have probs, i can check out the settings used
i know but its doenst appear,
anyway its not a big deal. plus, i guess its a version problem.
and... talking about the ext gps, i guess the prob doenst come from tom tom but the pda. i took me time to figure out the com port number to paired the device.
i have it as com 7, com 4, 4800, check gps automatic.
btw, i didnt use other nmea because i have a bt gps receiver.
i forgot what com port i choose at tomtom.
but no need for that when i connected it thru google maps.
dont know. just works.
thank you for your help.
Tomtom not visible when receiving call
I used to have a HTC 8310 smartphone (Mobile 5 and Tomtom 5.20). The good thing was, that when Tomtom was working and I then received a call on thr 8310, I would see the Tomtom screen again after a few seconds while continuing talking. Only the Tomtom voice would de-activate while speaking to the other person. That was excellent, because I could still see where I was supposed to be driving while speaking to another person on the phone at the same time!
I now have a NIKI 100 (Mobile 6.1 and Tomtom 6) and I find that the Tomtom screen does not re-appear immediately after accepting a call. The screen stays on the dial-screen the whole time. Only after the call is finished, Tomtom comes back automatically.
Does anyone know a way to change this, because it's pretty annoying.
Thanks in advance!
I have the same "problem". Before on my wizard it worked like you describe and now it stays in the dial-screen and Tomtom doesn't reappear. Also when the call is finished I have to switch back manually by clicking on the small icons in the corner on the right bottom.
I also have a NIKI 100, Tomtom 6 and WM6.1 (Niki Project).
Does anybody knows how to fix this?
I opened this thread to sign here all the BT problems found on our BA using WM6.5
I'm using Radio 1.13 on WM6.5 21198. I can pair a Qstarz 51channel GPS antenna correctly, but after the pairing the device remains disconnected. After checking the Serial Port box in the device settings i'm able to tap on 'Connect', but then the BA always report 'Unable to connect, connection failed or password wrong'.
I tried with Broadcomm stack b3900 but i get an error on startup about 'Storage' file being deleted or something else.
I tried with Helmi BT stack b3400 and it works: i can pair and connect. However connection seems to be unstable and after a few i get the device disconnected automatically, i don't have even the time to set up correctly Navigon Navigator. After a SR sometimes i get 'Unable to turn on bt cous of lack of memory, try to sr... blablabla'. Sometimes i have to HR to leave this error message.
better experiences?
I never use the CONNECT in the BT Settings to connect to my Holux GPSlim236. I just Add New Device... then set the COM Port to port #6, then go to Start/Settings/Connections/External GPS ... Under the Programs tab (Select NONE), under Hardware tab (Select the COM Port you set on BT, in my case COM Port 6), on the Access tab (Mark Manage GPS Automaticaly. Then I go open whatever GPS Software I'm going to use, and it usually connects to the GPS Reciever automatically. [edit] If it doesn't connect, then I go to the settings of the GPS Software and I tell it what my GPS Reciever COM Port is. I usually have to do that with Live Search and iGO8(all though iGO8 has a search for GPS that always finds it too)[end edit] However, from the best of my memory, I have never seen my GPS listed as CONNECTED. So again, I don't think you need to try to Connect on the BT Settings page. Give it a try, hope this helps.
Another option is to contact Qstarz support and ask them how to properly set up your GPS on WM6+. They should be able to walk you through.
[Edit:] I will test tonight if I get that error message by trying to use the CONNECT funtion on BT Settings. Also, I'll see if when the BT GPS Receiver is connected, if it shows on BT Settings as CONNECTED. I'll post back my findings as an EDIT to this post.[End Edit]
<Edit> I've done some further testing as promised. Here is my finding:
*When the BTGPS Reveiver is connected to the phone, there is no indication on the BT Settings as that it is "Connected", however it is, as Live Search, Pharos, iGO8 and Google find it without any troubles.
*I tried to highlight the GPS Receiver and tap on CONNECT, but the softkey is greyed out(not available).
*I tried tap n hold over the Receiver with the same results, connect is not available.
I have not noticed any problems with Blue tooth on build 21198.
Same problem to me with Jentro BT8.
Now trying HELMI_BA_BTstack_Build 3400.CAB.
Hope this one works.

Read markanthonypr's and frafor's posts above. Those are the only two solutions found so far. I am currently trying out markanthony's solution and so far it seems to work. I'll have to do some further testing.
I've been able to connect my GPS using helmi's b3400 stack, the connection is far stable but i have to set up the GPS ports fast, then open Navigon Navigator because otherwise the GPS enters standby mode and it looses the connection. However in these days i'll try the new build
markanthonypr: i too use 'add new device', but after the wizard procedure the GPS is listed under 'Disconnected devices' so then i have to check 'Serial port' service and tap 'connect'. Here i get the error message.

Have you tried w/o checking the Serial Port? I don't check the serial port. I just tried what you've stated, and got the same error you are talking about. But like I said, It connects to BT GPS Receiver w/o the Serial.

Well mark, you were right on the money with your suggestion. It seems that 6.5 controls external gps devices from within that option in the settings rather than the BT console. I am using Destinator 7 with my Pharos BT GPS and aside from taking a few minutes to connect, it works like a charm once it does connect...

LOL well I'm glad yours is working. I tried using Frafor's method, got his same error, went back to the method I always use, and now it won't connect LOL blah... I'm sure it will after a soft reset.
Speaking of soft reset. I've been searching all over for the darn XP ShutDown and can't find it. I know its here, but, why can't search find it? I wouldn't dare to ask you to point me in the right route, would you think I had the guts to as that? "Giggling"
Edit: Oh and I did use the Search !
i attached it for you, but be aware of the fact, that this is the basic version with a very xp like look for themes and how to install them go to: http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/

As far as the BT, it seems that it isn't a matter of drivers after all, but rather how 6.5 is handling them. Stick with the original drivers, I think that there are a few surprises in stock with the other BT stacks (Helmi's and broadcomm's)
Also, if I could recommend you Destinator 7, it seems to do just fine. I haven't tried Tomtom 6 or iGo 6 (all of which I used to use), but this one is very lightweight and the maps are not ridiculously big either.
Good to see you around buddy!!

Oh, I'm happy with iGO8 and the sexy female voice I have LOL and LiveSearch works awesome as well. They just updated again few weeks ago. Only thing I don't like about LiveSearch is it only saves 128MB on Storage Card. Everything over that gets downloaded on the spot and with the slow G connection of BA's, it can become a pain at times. But iGO8 Maps cover PR very well However, just to be nice, I'll try destinator. If you recomend it and Tony Cooks it, I'll eat it LOL
Umm btw, let me scoot to work... Later aligators
EDIT: Geez, I always have a second thought after pressing that darn Post Reply. I installed NF, its the same I had. Haven't seen any noticeable difference. A little higher build... Poofff Gone!

psShutXP is a bit annoying. I use this cab to soft reset & power off which is quite ideal for WM6.5 start menu I have repacked the cab files.
I've got the same problem and I think this is a problem GPS with MTK chipset. I've try 2 diferent GPS (qstarz and pentagram ) with MTK chipset and bouth work correctly only with WM2003 or on WM 5/6 from helmi with Helmi BT Stack 1,7.
With many ROMs GPS connect corectly and work to soft reset. After reset GPS connect for 1-2 sek and disconnect. It doesnt mater setting in GPS devices so i thing this is problem with receving BT data in our devices.
Also I try GPS from nokia LW-3 (or something like this) with sirfstar III and it connect without problem with diferent ROMS
I have a different problem since upgrading to Xplode's WM6.5 v21202...
I have working connections (not all at the same time) to three BT devices; Qstarz 51 ch gps, my old Tomtom BT gps, and the Stowaway (Think Outside) BT keyboard. All exhibit the same problem:
After a few minutes the connection seems to go and the device loses communication. It will then reconnect and continue fine for a while then same loss as before. This is particularly annoying when I'm using Tomtom to navigate!
I have not set up a serial connection for the Tomtom gps but did so for the Qstarz and keyboard. they all have the same comms loss.
I also have another BA running WM6.1 and this is fine with the devices...
Any suggestions please?
Thanks

Try a different BT stack. Some people have reported improvement in certain areas of functionality. However, everything comes at a price... the same people have reported that the range stinks. You will not be able to get much further than a couple of feet from your BA. Hope this helps...
Hi
I have installed tomtom 7 version 7.450 / 7.451 both these version install fine and work apart from the fact they dont display how many sats are in range it is blank as if nothing but still works (annoying).
I also installed the latest one which is 7.915.916 (i think) this one again works fine and shows the sats but tomtom Traffic wont enable, just comes back saying need to setup a connection on the phone or in tomtom home (connection already there of course and works fine on 7.450/7.451).
Version 7.910.9185 (think this is correct) seems to work ok with traffic as well but ALL verisons seem to suffer from the same problem and that is when you connect it to tomtom home it displays the device id that is connected to the tomtom account and then shows the device connected to the computer as being different. The serial no's of both devices are identical apart from on the on tomtom thinks is registered to the account has a capital letter at the start and for some reason it has lower case letters in the middle (still the same serial no). the one that is says you are connecting to the computer displays the correct serial with NO capital T and letters in the middle are all caps. very strange indeed. Have rung tomtom and got them to reset my account. this works the first time you then connect to tomtom home, but as soon as you disconect and reconnect it says the device is not linked to the account displays the serial no slightly different to what it should be.
This usually would not be a problem but i have a speed camera subscription with tomtom and I cannot get them to download because of this. My traffic works fine and the actual device code stays the same within tomtom just this serial no issue.
I have tried all tomtom homes ranging from 1.5 right the way through to 2.6 (latest), 1.5 does work to a certain degree and does not show the serial no error but does not work with v7+8 maps so useless.
Anyone got any thoughts or is this a tomtom problem because they dont officially support the device ?
If not i will just go back to using my pocket world camera subscription, just easier to use this as you can download the updates to cameras whilst on the move.
Thanks
Update.
It appears you can download the camera updates manually from the tomtom site so now not too much of a problem, but definately one to watch out for if you have any extra paid for services from tomtom with this phone.
tom tom
i installed the same version of tom tom, but now my bluetooth will not start up, does anybody have a soluton for this problem
regards peter
[email protected]
This is to do with the 2 bt files contained in the cab file you installed, only way to get back for me when i done this was to hard reset. I then removed the 2 files from the cab file using wincab manager.
there is a thread on this forum about this very problem.
For other people....
regarding my original issue on post#1, i have now installed the tomtom camera's manually as this works fine. I will try out TTHome once they release a version that is definitely compatible with the Touch Pro 2. For now i will use 7.451 as although the sats dont display on screen this still works and does not seem to suffer the lag when navigating like the later version i.e. 7.915.916 / 7.910
