Mac address on Qtek9100 - Networking

Hi does anyone out there know of a way i can find out the MAC addreses for the network card on the Qtek 9100 running windows mobile 2005. I need to know the wireless network card and also if the gprs connection has a mac address i need to know that as well.
Thanks in advance.
Barry

why do you need to know this??

is it like a wireless network your trying to access?

No what we have is a vpn laptop users use securid tags to connect to the vpn and get there email. when they cannot use there laptop to get there mail they use the qtek 9100 create a gprs connection connect to the vpn and get there mail. But they don't like having to use the tag on the pocket pc to connect to the vpn and want it to auto connect every hour and check messages. so if i knew the mac address i could allow them access through the firewall to connect to there mail.

ah right
a bit complex for me... i managed to find mine,.... but only via my wireless router... where i looked in the DHCP active IP table... it has mac addresses in there etc...
I'll see if i can find it on my phone now///
otherwise if you have a few users it might be a pain trying to identify them all eh lol

found it... i think!!
go to start>settings> connections tab>wirelesslan>advanced tab>
in there i found mac address that matches the mac address shown on my DHCP table...
i might be sending you off on a wild goose chase but thats as much as i can find sorry

Thanks for that but has any got any idea if the gprs connection uses the same mac address or a differnt mac address

GPRS is only virtual, and the radio module has no mac adress. You get only an IP.

But you need a MAC address for the IP to work don't you there must a mac address on the phone would it be the same as the wireless card.

I feel so much better now!!
Anyways...I have a wireless home network up and running and would like to connet the xda to it.
I can connect to the router no probs but IE cant connect to the web. it says "the page you are looking for cannot be found".
Any ideas why I can connect to the router but not to the web?
Cheers folks - thanks
I know how you feel. There are a couple things you have to do.
First check that you have selected to connect via "work".
Then ensure that the IP address shown is in the range of 192.168.0.X
had no problems with my wifi on my home network, as ale210p said, I think it's with the way your connect via "work" or "ISP" is configured
hiya folks
thanks for coming to my rescue..hopefully i can get this thing on the road.
- in connections - advanced - select networks. both selections are set to "my work network"
- in configure network adapters - network adapters. the "my network connects me to" dropdown is selected to work.
- where can i check my ip address on the device?
Alhtough I am connected to my wireless network as that what the wireless LAN manager says?
any ideas guys?
many thanks
Is your internet provider checking the MAC address? my provider checks for the MAC address and hence I had to register my MAC address first with the provider.
I'm pretty sure my ISP isnt checking my MAC address as my PC and other computer on the network work fine with regards to internet access and I never gave the MAC addresses to the ISP.
However, my modem router does have mac filtering enabled. I have copied the MAC address of the xda to the allowed list. However I've also tried to turn this filter off and the result was the same....I still could connect to my home wireless network but had the same error message when trying to surf through pocket IE.
Any other ideas on why I can connect to the network but IE wont let me surf?
thanks again
I'm having exactly the same problem as Richard. What I don't understand is, I can drive around and find free residential wireless hotspots and surf the net , but I can't do it on my own WLAN!
IP info OK?
These symptoms could indicate that vital IP info is missing on your XDA.
Does your XDA get an IP address + gateway address + DNS server address from the router's DHCP server? Use vxIPConfig to determine this http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html
I know for a fact that many times (not always) my QTEK 9090 does NOT get the required IP info from my SMC Barricade 2804WBR b/g wireless router, so I started using fixed addresses on my QTEK.
If I use DHCP, many times I can connect to the router but am unable to access the internet... Because the QTEK has not received an IP address/gateway address/DNS server address in those cases. Fixed addresses always work.
whoa
thanks for the advice. i installed the app. rubbed the sticks together and there were sparks i tell you!!! but what does it all mean?
the ip address is 169.254.84.245
subnet mask 255.255.0.0
dhcp server 255.255.255.255
im no tekkie so am not sure what the above means? does it provide any clues?
thanks for the advice so far
just an update
i manually inputted the ip address assigned to my xda by the router as i have dhcp disabled on the router.
nonetheless it sill doesnt let me connect to the net but i can connect to the wlan?

Fixed IP address is good, but have you also put in the gateway address and DNS server address? Normally the gateway address + DNS server address = router address.
If your routers IP address would be 192.168.1.1 (quite common address), then your IP address could be 192.168.1.2, gateway address would be 192.168.1.1 and DNS server (name server) address also 192.168.1.1.
BTW; this:
the ip address is 169.254.84.245
subnet mask 255.255.0.0
dhcp server 255.255.255.255 <========= !!!!
means that DHCP didn't work!
I suppose that when you state "connect to the wlan" you mean that you can 'see' machines on your local network? Or what? That would make sense because you wouldn't need a gateway address and DNS server address for that normally (broadcasts).
siliconaddict....you're a genius!
finally it works, it works i say.
fantastic.
thanks to all for the advice and feedback - much appreciated.
can i stoke the fire and ask how i can sync via wifi as well?
never done it myself, but here is a guide
I have never synced over WiFi myself, but here are some guides:
http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/WM2003/ActiveSync/WM2003ActiveSyncConfiguration.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=132820
Please note that the next version of Activesync, version 4, doesn't do syncing over Wifi anymore...
Good luck!
Sorry to be a complete noob, but:
1. How do I find out the IP Address of the XDA (Is it in Wireless LAN Manager, under "current config" and "IP:"?)
2. My Netgear USB WLAN is showing an IP of "0.0.0.0" (on command prompt >> ipconfig) How do I change this?
Thanks
Q & A
A 1: On your PDA use Use vxIPConfig for this http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html. Unfortunately the OS doesn't have a standard utility for it, like 'ipconfig'.
A 2: Does your router hand out IP addresses at all? Or: is DHCP enabled on your router? If true, do you have the correct drivers loaded for that USB NIC? In Device Manager how does it look? Yellow exclamation mark? Can you post the output of 'ipconfig /all'.

How can I find out the Mac address of my device ?

I am trying to hook up my i-mate with my home wireless connection...
but I couldn't find out the Mac Address of my i-mate
Any idea ??
thanks
You cant really without being connected to a network, its annoying.
Turn off MAC address filtering and connect.
Now on your device click STart>Settings>Connections>Wireless Lan
on the Advanced tab you will see your devices MAC address.

ICS & VPN with WM6

My searches on the web haven't yielded much help or information so I thought I would come to the experts...
I have a Treo 750 that I just "upgraded" to WM6 2 days ago. I noticed that DUN has gone away and was replaced by ICS. After configuring my laptop to use that instead of DUN I connected and was surfing the web. My problem now is VPN. I travel frequently (luckily I'm in the office until Jan.) and regularly used my phone to connect to the corporate network via VPN. I also work with a lot of other companies and have VPN access to their systems as well. Basically now I can open my Cisco VPN client, connect to a VPN gateway, authenticate, get assigned all the appropriate IP information, but cannot communicate on the network. What gives? Is there a solution to this? If not, what the heck was MS thinking when they did this!? My phone is basically useless for one of the major reasons I bought it...
Any help is appreciated!
thanks!
Ok, further searches found that DUN can be added back into WM6 via a cab that was posted here at the XDA forums. I installed it and the DUN service is now visible again. I unpaired by phone and laptop, re-paired, and included DUN. Now when I try to connect, I get the DUN connection box after the bluetooth connection is initiated but when I click DIAL I get the DIALING... prompt, followed by Error 678: The remote computer did not respond.
Anybody get this working on a Treo 750? Thoughts, ideas suggestions?
What is the ip address you are getting via the cisco vpn client
It maybe that it is in the same subnet as the ip address assigned to the pc from the wm6 ics. The ICS gives the address 192.168.0.1. and if your Cisco is also giving a 192.168 address then you will have two routes for the 192 address range thus giving you the problem when accessing hosts.
If this is the problem Im pretty sure you can change the address allocated via the ICS using a registry editor. If not you may be able to get work to use a different range for you on the cisco vpn.
Our corporate network is 172.x.x.x so it's nowhere near the 192.168.0.x assigned by the phone. When I look at the route in the VPN client I see 192.0.0.0, 10.0.0.0, and 172.0.0.0 so I am assuming 192 is my laptop, 10 is the phone, and 172 is the corporate network.
I'm guessing NATing is the problem. I've been reading that if I use a different APN (isp.cingular instead of wap.cingular) there is no NATing. I've tried both, and I've tried turning off and on the "force AT&T" proxy setting to no avail.
Tried the DUN cab hack that is floating around for WM6 also. The service is active again and I can also add Modem Link back in and my laptop sees my Treo as a modem but when I dial I get an error stating the remote computer did not respond. I'm guessing along with going from WM5 to WM6 AT&T also updated the radio so the old communications protocols don't work anymore?
Hello Sir,
I have exactly the same problem... I have successfully connected via VPN, however unable to communicate with any devices on that network... Then what is the use of VPN on the phone? I've tried searching online for answers, but no luck... People are having the same problem but no one knows how to solve it... I'll try and trouble shoot this problem more as soon as my exams are done...
Hi
Working successfully for me. I am using Imate jasjam wm6. Pc using cisco client connecting via ics on phone. I have telstra 3g connection tested ok on both telstra.internet (Nated ip) and telstra.extranet (real ip).
You are correct it may be an nat issue. Can you check that your transparent tunnelling is on as follows: right click on your connection entry in cisco client and select modify then transport tab. Check that enable transport tunneling is enabled ipsec over udp(Nat/pat).
The other thing to check is that the cisco vpn server aslo has transport over Nat on as well.
Also are you sure your corporate ip range is 172 or is that the range given by the cisco vpn to clients.
Transport tunneling is on (always was). I'll have to check with our network admin and check on the VPN server setting...I guess as long as I have connectivity back to the office, I don't need it that badly for all the customers I need to connect to at various times.
Yep, positive on the corporate IP. Right now it is 172.28.1.87 and I'm in the office.
Thanks for the help so far. Got any other suggestions on how I can troubleshoot further?
One other thought...should I modify the registry on the phone to assign a different IP address to my laptop? Would that help?
Same Problem
MX. I am having the exact same issue but with Securemote VPN. I've looked through the registry and found the assigned address, but I'm wary of changing anything until I can find some more information.
Anyone out there ever change the DHCP configuration for their phone?
Somewhat related question?
Im attempting to route my connection on my mobile through a laptop acting as a wan bridge, then uplinking it into the router. The issue Im having is that XP and WM6 both use the same IP Block. Ive read and read and cant find much to tell me how to change the WM6 IP BLock to something like 192.168.2.1 rather than the default 192.168.0.1
Does anyone have any pointers? Ive looked through the registry. There MUST be a simple way to change a default.
To clarify my setup, I am using ICS Via USB into a UMPC laptop running XP. The UMPC is set to share that same connection back out over Ethernet. The ethernet runs into my WAN Uplink on the router and then back out via wifi/rj-45
This setup works as I have done it using Wifi with other networks, and I can chose the "Lan3" to share under the advanced settings on the UMPC. The reason I dont just share out via Wifi from the start is that Wifi on my Kaiser and Raphael both make the device to hot to charge, thusly killing the battery within a couple hrs of sharing. If I share via USB , it stays pretty cool and still charges.
Anyone have any pointers?
I have already tried tricking XP into using the Lan on another block but as soon as you try to share the USB lan, it reverts back to the 192.168.0.1
The only way I can imagine is a registry modification or a program change in ICS.
Thanks Much!

How to find MAC address??

I need to discover the MAC address of the Herald's built in wifi device so I can use it for MAC address filtering on my router. My router (linksys W54G) doesn't detect what the Herald's MAC address is if I turn off filtering.
Anybody have any ideas?
BTW on my old IPAQ H4150 running Pocket PC, the asset viewer shows the MAC address but Windows Mobile 5 on the Herald doesn't show this information
i guess you can find it in wifisettings. start connection wifi....
good luck

Be sure to be connected to a wireless network. Otherwise you can't see you mac-address. Even when you need to insert your mac address in the router, you still can connect to the network. I have mac-address filtering too on my wireless network.
If you can't find that information on your device, you could always check what the router says what's connected to it.
I'm trying to do a similar thing but would like to know if there is an application to view a devices MAC address from a PC over Activesync? Oh and I can't view it from router logs as it's preconfigured to use with other access points and I do not want to reconfigure them. Thanks for any help.

View and access network PC's over wifi

Hi
Does anyone know how to do this?
I have tried with total commander and many others.
Has anyone got it working?
my purpose for it is streaming music from my pc and accessing documents and saved web pages etc.
P.S. I can connect to the internet over wifi, but not access any PC's on the network.
I am using the latest SE build R2
thanks in advance
its working just fine for me using total commander and gsplayer!
just using the //PC_NAME works perfectly in total commander. In fact, I`m using it right now!
hey i use the htc network plugin works just fine for me, i got a domain network with a win2k8 server and i m able to access all files on it streaming is also possible..
install and soft reset afterwards you got the network entry in settings/connections/NetworkPlugin where you can add computers which you can access afterwards with file explorer

Thank for this app.. works like a bomb!
nice to hear, that it works for you
Hi can you use this appplication to also access the internet via the pc's internet connection e.g. if pc is on a landline and xperia connects via wifi to the pc I want the xperia to be able to use the internet as well ..
do u know?
use a vpn connection to connect to remote network then the plugin should work with this connection and find the computers from the vpn network.. hope you understand what i mean
i am using bulletproof ftp and resco explorer.. resco explorer got possibility to add ftp connections.. so you have just to add port forward to your firewall and to connect to ftp.. if using a single server where all files are stored on it is a very nice alternative to share all things via ftp because you can access it from anywhere.. you need a dyndns hostname or something similar too, but i guess i dont have to say this
i use logmein and the cab works fine for me, i fix customers pc's from the x1 and they pay me for doin it via paypal
still no luck
ok
thank for the help so far
i am feeling really stupid.
i installed the network plugin. then reset and connected to my wifi network at home.
now I try add new or browse and it keeps saying map drive failed or no computer was found in the network.
Could it be my wireless network settings?
I am able to connect to the net
the Ip address is inline with that of my pcs and all the PCs can see each other.
I do not have a domian or VPN setup
Please help.
What am I doing wrong?
I have tried pinging my phone and it works, but if I try ping my Pc from my phone it doesnt work. I am using vxutil
I've been playing around and i noticed that I can ping my phone from my pc but i my phone cannot ping my pc ( doesnt find it). i am using vxutil
any firewall on the host pc? How do you try to connect? Through Hostname or with the ip,.. ? Never had such a problem but you can try to add the drives without browsing by just adding them with the path for example
//mynetworkpc(better you use the ip instead x.x.x.x)/sharedfolder
i think it should be a problem of your host pc i guess.. can you access it from other network computers? Try to ping it from another computer in your network, sounds like a firewall problem to me
Here is what I can do
1. Ping my computer and any other computer from any computer connected to both wired and wireless network
2. access the files on my computer from any other pc in the house
3. stream music to and from my pc to any pc in the house
4. ping my Phone from my pc
5. connect to the internet though the wireless network, using my phone.
What I cant do
1. ping my pc from my phone
2. connect to shared files on my pc from my phone
Let me know if there is something I am doing wrong or any settings to check or anything else I can do to get this working please
I found out some more info that might be useful
it has to do with IP addresses of the phone
Current IP
