Hi,
Have anyone experience free GPRS?
I DO
Yes I have and still on it 8)
Its free somehow? :?:
Anyone else have got it too?
What do you mean, all GPRS is free, isn't it?
GPRS Data Plan
No, GPRS isn't free. You need to go into a data plan
depending on the network that operates it. Nothing
is free in this world especially with telecomunication.
Some might have Free GPRS maybe on a trial run etc.
on my nokia i have a BT genie simcards this gives me unlimited wap and gprs for free also 300txts per month its not the newer 02 online sim they only allow 300min of wap/gprs....
anyway i used to use gprs on wa all the time on my 3510i then i got my xda...
using the GPRS connection for the net dont work for me but yet works with the wap explorer but if i use my wap dialup conection i get free internet useasge but i think its only like 20kb/s which is quite cool really shame it dont work on gprs though
John - just goes to show how little you know about what you're posting on then, doesn't it?
Quest
Hi Anon,
Are you trying to tell me you can get free GPRS
on your O2xda? I would love to know how you do it
then......that is if you care to share here.
WAP over GPRS on O2 incurs no charge, you need to speak to your network as this is not something that is true across all networks.
Quest
Dont worry, I already found a way to use GPRS on my
O2Xda surfing the internet for FREE.
Would you care to illuminate the rest of us Quest? We like free!
Free Mobile Web
Does Anyone know how i can get Free Mobile Web over GPRS. If anyone does then PLEASE let me know.
Did you know the word "gullible" does not appear in any dictionary?
Free GPRS (maybe...)
I sometimes hear that if you configure the WAP/MMS access point name instead of the internet one, you may get fee connectivity since WAP is usually billed on the service level, and MMS is billed per transaction. If you don't get IP, you may be able to get free mobile-to-mobile traffic, or maybe even find a proxy which will allow browsing.
I'm just relaying what I heard here. I have not tested anything, I do not recommend doing this, and I definitely recommend not assuming something is free until you get the bill. Your mileage may vary beyond all comprehension.
I found some web pages talked about o2 offering free WAP and txt messages... also mention of o2 as genie etc. This may all be old news?
O2 Wap / Mobile Internet settings:

Freebies
Hi.
I have the old genie free wap access too. Until about a month ago, O2 allowed access through port 80 (WEB http) and 6201 (Wap wsp) but they have just blocked port 80 so I can now only get the crappy o2 active site and for anyhing else i need to go through the 'find' option at the bottom of the o2 Active site. Problem is I can't get half the bloomin' wap sites I used to get and I resent having to use the active home page to view anything, I don't like moaning because I only pay £10 a month and get free wap dialup over gsm (no gprs) but i think it's a bit below the belt to just block me. anyone else having this problem?
Is there anyway to tunel through 6201 or can I use a different proxy for http traffic (o2 give 193.113.200.195, which has stopped working) cos I'd like to be able to get my active sync working mobile again.
HELP ME!!!!!!
my gprs is almost free... $4.99USD/month
only ports 80/110/25/995/443 and some other port are open though... enough for me.
Re: Freebies
Hi, This is my first posting on this forum, so I hope I understand the question properly. I'm using a very old Genie (O2) SIM card. This gives no GPRS, but practically unlimited GSM (cellular line) dialup WAP access via shortcode 915000 or 07712927927.
Username o2wap
Password password
My GSM WAP proxy settigs are:
HTTP 193.113.200.195 Port 8080
WAP 193.113.200.195 Port 9201
SECURE WAP 193.113.200.200 Port 9203
SOCKS 193.113.200.195 Port 1080
I'm using an i-Mate PDA 2K (Blue Angel)
I can surf WAP and web pages, including some secure servers, e.g. Amazon, but since some time last month, it hasn't let me log in to this forum or my internet banking account.
I find sometimes my links to WAP pages in Favourites stop working; they work again after I delete and re-create them. I find links to WAP pages only work if they begin wsp://
and I suspect mine got changed to http:// during synchronisation with ActiveSync.
Hope this helps
John

With the current weakness of the dollar, $4.95 will get you about 1.2MB of GPRS use in rip-off britain with rip-off O2 currently!

Do you know the google wap proxy?
I am not sure about the URL, maybe http://www.google.com/wml?hl=de&wmlmode=url .
Otherwise look in the menu of googles wap pages.
Have a look at http://mywap.o2online.de/p.php3?u=wap42&p=10121453
or try something like wap42.mywap.genion.de .

www over wap
Hi,
I have been using O2 wap too. I could go to some web pages by using
"wsp://" instant of "http://". However it is bit limited. You you know any other way of using internet through WAP?
So I've been using my T-mobile with the free WAP connection web browsing. This does allow FULL web browsing across port 80. If this is the case, is there any way to set up a proxy server that runs on port 80 that could forward all SSL/other data thus allowing us to access all web content for free? Someone let me know!! Thanks a lot.
Matt
I am also using TMO for my internet, forgot to pay the cable bill, and noticed I can't access HTTPS web sites and am also looking into this and how to fix it.

:? Now how does this work or get setup? been looking around these fourms all day and night. :?
:? downloaded a freebe WAP browswer - can't seem to connect. RAS error :?
:? changed network settings to everything i saw on these forums - still nothing :?
I found that using a proxy server on port 80 allows me to connect to web sites using HTTPS, just do a search for free proxy servers and its kind hit and miss but after about 4 servers I found one that works, granted a little slow but I have access that I didn't before.
What about other services (ports) besides https, such as IM, FTP, etc.? Have we figured out a way to map these services through a proxy on port 80? Do we need to find a free proxy server that supports SOCKS? Could we just set one up on our personal computers to do this?
I have an unlocked Samsung p735. T-mobile has blocked port 80 and Java and I cannot get rid of their cert. nonsence. Of course they claim they are not blocking anything so my relationship with tech support end in less than friendly terms Can anyone help me to open port 80 and get all of T-mobile certs off my phone?
Thank you,
Teri  :?:

i was havin the same problem gettin tzones set up to run http, i followed the setup protocol at this thread on howardforums, works like a charm
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=878788&page=2&pp=15
now what im wondering is whether theres a way to speed up this connection to faster than ~20kbps
I know PPC2003 IE support WAP.
But my phone provider Ireland Vodafone has a WAP system called Vodafone live!
I cannot configure IE to use this as it has it's own GPRS and GSM connection profile and Access Point and Proxy. So I want to get a WAP Browser for the XDAII that I can configure to use the WAP settings from Vodafone and the IE can be left for ISP settings and general browsing.
Anyone any suggestions?
Try NetFront browser
http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...yWords=netfront&catalog=30&txtSearch=netfront
I use the O2active portal and that is something similar to Vodafone Live.
I do have german OS, so my tranlations might not be totally correct.
goto settings -> connections -> connections -> company networks (in german Firmennetzwerke) the last entry.
Here you find the WAP network.
Under "Modem" you can set up the acces point, under proxysettings the proxy, just get your vodfone live stuff from their website or extract it from a mobile. This sould work.
No need for extra cash ;-)
Alex
I am with Vodafone.
I got the XDAII as a Sim Free Phone from O2.
I have removed the extended ROM stuff and set it up for Vodafone.
I have everything working, GPRS & CSD Internet Access. E-Mail, MMS all with Vodafone.
I have setup the connection for the WAP ie. Vodafone live!
All I can enter is the APN "live.vodafone.com" and username and password. BUT I still need to enter the gateway address ie. 10.24.59.100 and the homepage " http://live.vodafone.com".
So where do I enter the gateway if I want to use IE for the WAP browser, and I assume the homepage is not a Proxy address, it's what I enter into the IE address bar to get the wap site???
Anyone,
Thanks again for the info.
under "again-the-stuff-before" where is written proxy-settings, check "use a proxy" (again, mine is german)
under extended you can set the ip address for WAP and WAP secure.
The start-homepage you simple set under IE (just as you would it in Windows)
good luck
This is not a problem due to connexion, GPRS, GSM wap or anything.
for vodafone live, as for Orange world and others, the do watch for the user agent of your device to select the type of page to display.
Every operator has a pool of mobile devices and unfortunately i guss the XDA2 does not belong to this pool.
Here in france it had just been added a couples of days ago because they are now selling it as SPV1000 on the orangeworld contract.
So even if you use a wap browser like ezwap or another, the problem will still remain, the user agent of your devices will not be recognize by the vodafone live wap proxy.
in germany they start selling the XDA2/MDA2 also now from vodafone...
anyway... if you ever had a customized vodafone-firmware on your phone you'll hate vodefone for ever ;-)
Maybe try to begin the URL with wsp:// instead of http:// ...
AT&T WAP Settings in US?
Can anyone tell me how to set up my XDA II WAP for AT&T in the US?
Thanks
Steve
I have an XDA 11i - -was on contract but I use ao2 pay as you go SIM card .
I can make and accept phone calls, and send recieve emails etc but I can only view a couple of web pages ie BBC home and Google ( only images!)
and they are both WAP sites.
If I try any other site it just says CANNOT CONNECT.
To get a bit of news I have to use the following
wsp://news.bbc.co.uk/mobile/bbc_
Or for weather i use
wsp://wap.weatheronline.co.uk/02
Can you suggest another way of connecting or any other wap addresses ?
Glad of any help
Any ideas - -please !!!!!!!!!
I can't connect to either of those sites through my XDA.
Just to eliminate your GPRS connection settings, connect your XDA to the USB Cradle and try and access HTML sites from there. You should be able to. And if so check the O2 GPRS settings. Can be found on O2 site.
Note: O2 site states you need "O2 Mobile Web activated on your SIM". Phone them and say you want it activated.
LINK
O2 have activated my sim but they say I will have restricted use because I am only Pay as you Go.
Payasyougo is only litmited to WAP and not WEB. In other words you can't browse the www sites! only wap sites that are O2's own
O2 will tell you the sim will enable yo uto browse the internet, they are correct in a sense as WAP is the internet, but there own internet!
Basically the Sales team at O2 don't really know what they are talking about! most of which have just been on a customer sales training and not techincal training.
You need a Monthly (Post Pay) Contract.
Cheers
Lee
Both wsp sites are WAP sites by the way. You need to be able to view www sites and you can't, not with a pay as you go sim
So that means that I am stuck with these two sites then ???
Yep, just those two and the thousands of other WAP sites : http://www.wapcatalog.com/
heh only 9 sexuality related sites for wap maybe thats why it never really took off
I tried the wapcatalog site but I'm afraid the few that were not ringtones didn't work on my phone.
I have a pay as you go sim by the way not contract.
Thanks for your suggestion though
It's been a while since I used WAP, but IIRC www.google.com/wml or http://mobile.google.com should restrict search results to WAP sites.
Thanks friend but they didn't work either.
The only sites I can use start with WSP ie wsp://news.bbc.co.uk/mobile
