how to assign program to soft buttons? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

I already set the Pocket Informant as the default calendar and linked to WM5 default calendar. Don't know what reason, when I press the soft button "Calendar", it still launch the WM5 default calendar not Pocket Informant, even when I click on the "calendar" in Programs, it will launch Pocket Informant instead of WM5's default, any idea?

The registry key to change...
Left Key
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Key\112]
@="Left"
Open="\Windows\MyApp.exe"
Right Key
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Key\113]
@="Right"

Changing shortcut buttons

Is it possible to change where the buttons at bottom of the screen point to, when i press Calender it always goes to the default calender rather then Pocket Informant. And yes i've selected pocket informant as my defualt PIM.
Yeah, someone posted the registry keys necessary to change the softkeys....
After a bit of a search, I didn't find the post I was originally thinking of, but this thread will give you the correct registry keys...

What is the best app to use for regedits?

Any way to rename a soft key?

I have just got my first Windows Mobile 5 Device, a MDA Vario. Its great, but Ive put Photo Contacts Pro on it, and changed the home screen soft key from contacts to Photocontactspro. Thing is, the app name is too long and gets cut off to "photo con"
Is there anyway to rename this softkey?
Thanks
You can do that in the registries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112 - right key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113 - left key
Values:
Default=Button label
Open=command
Cool, thanks
Hmmm
I wonder if you can help me.
I tried VITO ButtonManager and it has well and truly screwed up my softkey definitions for the Today Screen.
The right one seems to change what is does and the left one does not work at all.
I have disabled Button Manger but still cannot get the softkeys to work again.
How would I reset them to their original values?
Please bear in mind I have NEVER changed a registry key before?

Remapping SoftKeys
Robster, there is a complete incompatibility between our Wizard and VitoButtonMapper soft.
For interested people there is a specific soft to change Right and Left key applications (for instance, the right softkey is now launching TomTom instead of Contact).
Juste time to find where I may share this soft with you !
You could just follow the registry tweaks up top
It's not much more difficult from using Windows Explorer and notepad

Soft Keys

Hey guys hope everyone is doing ok today, just got a quick question about the soft keys. I have just flashed my ROM to RUU_Molski.Biz_226102_22610105_022511_G4_WWE its an excellent rom and would recommend it!
Just one thing tho i have CoPilot the sat nav prog on here and i like to set it to the left soft key so i can just load it quickly. Since i flashed the ROM when i press the left soft key it says "error opening shortcut or locating target filename" just wondering if anyone knows how i could fix this?
Many thanks
More info required.
How to you set the softkey? program or via registry hack? value?
well i set the softkey through the little softkey thing in settings and co pilot was in the list ok it just doesn't seem to work when i click the softkey. Is it a reg setting i need to change?
That is weird, the softkey software should work perfectly. Unless you move the thing away from the application start menu.
Anyway, take a look at the wiki at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
On the section "Change the application launched by Today screen Soft Keys"
For your case, set it up using the Softkey application, and go into the registry (with any reg edit software) and look at the value of
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\Open
See what is the value being set to.
If it is set to the shortcut, try setting it to the exact EXE file.

Map other buttons?

Since the search function isnt working, is there a utility to map the other buttons, instead of just the built-in app that only changes the camera button?
Key Swop vo.2.1
H Button v1.8.1
Get from www.freewarepocketpc.net
Thanks,
KeySwop worked great for something else I was trying to do. I wanted to try using pockectbreeze because of it's today plug in but then use pocket informant as the pim, except use pocketcm for contacts. With KeySwop I was able to fix the calendar soft key to go to pocket informant without making it the default pim and losing pocketcm for contacts.
I had trouble with Hbutton. Not sure if I just was understanding it correctly but I couldnt get consistent behavior when adding multiple functions to the camera button.

Soft Key Customisation

I do not use TF3D and have the WM6.1 standard softkeys of Calendar and Contacts.
I have done a search of the forum and found nothing so hoping somebody can help.
What is the least memory exhaustive program that allows you to change your soft keys? You used to be able to do it as standard on WM5 but it seems they have scrapped that for the newer OS.
Is there even a way of doing it without installing a program?
you cant change the softkeys on titanium
I'm not on titanium, just standard WM6.1
if you're talking about RAM memory, any program would be good since it's a registry tweak.
you could use diamond tweak, or TFDetacher(just running the TFDetacher config is enough, no need to use the actual detacher tool)
Changing softkeys
you need to create the keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112 - for left softkey
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113 - for right.
in each of them to create a 2 key
default [string] - name softkey
open [string] - the file path in quotes
for example: right softkey - AltTab:
default AltTab
open "\program files\AltTab\AltTab.exe"
...and soft reset
Well, I think you better learn how to search properly ;-) Forget about all these comments. Just use Softkey Manager. It solves your question without any manual registry edits. And, as mentioned, it doesn't use RAM as the program doesn't need to run constantly. It just changes what the softkey does, so there is no RAM affection. See thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414405.
