Hello,
today i got my MDA pro.
Now i'd like to knew all about my new "pda".
I upgraded my mda to the Firmware from 12/2005 wich i found on the t-mobile-germany website.
I knew, all the questions i ask here are somewhere answered in this forum, but i think a link-list will help newbies.
My questions:
1. can i really use another firmware from the another provider (o2, orange ...)
2. wich is the "best" firmware?
3. I search some good internetpages about the mda pro/universal where i can find a lot of software. Du you know some pages?
4. Do you have some advices for me (hints, must-have-software...)?
Thanks a lot
Erik
Firstly:
Read This:

Particularly point 2.
Then read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31697
Which is now a bit old and redundant.
Both of the above are always at the top of this forum.
To answer your questions.
1. Yes, lots are available on the Wiki FTP site. Make sure you follow the process and understand if you have a locked phone. I personally dont cross upgrade, and am happy with the imate latest ROM with Push Email. Another is due out soon that will provide bluetooth headsets.
2. "best"!!! sometimes the one with with most functionality is not the most stable. I havent tried the others, and have stayed with Imate. I used to have the O2 XDAII and again stayed with O2, up until we got some hacked Roms that went above and beyond the only supported releases.
3. www.handango.com www.ppcfreewares.com www.buzzdev.net www.lakeridge.com www.spbsoftwarehouse.com
It really depends on what software you want. Just make sure that they are WM5 compatible. There are various forums here that discuss various software and its functionality on the devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32698&highlight=software+wm5+working
is a detailed forum.
4. good advice, monitor these forums daily, make friends with buzz and vijay, be nice to people be good to your mum

Hello All,
I'm a newbie here and am currently using a GSM Treo 600, but have a GSM 8125 on the way. As a message board veteran (cigars, poker, etc...) I tried my due dilligence and have been reading and searching topics for the past day. It's simply too much info (a good thing) and the relevant topics that I find have so many posts with updates that I have a hard time keeping stuff straight.
I'm looking for direction on what type of things to upgrade and what must have programs I should add to the 8125. I realize that this type of post probably appears much too often but I have truly been overwhelmed with all the information that is here. For example, I've seen many posts regarding flashing the ROM but I was unable figure out what the latest ROM version is (created by Summiter) and I'm also unsure of all the benefits of flashing the ROM.
Any assistance will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!!!

I just got mine 1 week ago and this is what I did to make it run nice. I say that because after one day of use on the original cingular rom it was already acting up.
Go to these links in the forums and do as they say. Summiter and these guys have done us a great service with all their work. All this is free too.
Go here first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796
down load the lokiwiz version 0.2b and use it as the directions specify. You may as well SuperCID unlock the device if you want to upgrade the rom in the next step or it won't work. Remember to SuperCID after you take the first step.
From there go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48587
Read though it to about page 3 or 4 and find the link to the ftp site. Download the program and run it following the directions.
Don't panic when it hits 98% and freezes. That is standard. It will finish up eventually and reboot the 8125.
My 8125 runs perfect and I love the tiki theme. Summiter is great at helping and many of the other users really help also. Also, if you can't hook up to your Microsoft Exchange Server with Activesync when your 8125 is connected through the usb port, disable the proxy server in your internet settings.
Have fun. This is easy to do - I am a novice and had no problems.
THANK YOU Addicus! I appreciate you taking the time to point me in the right direction.
wow me too. im a noob and just got my 8125 and noticed its acting up abit. i'll try all this later on. hopefully i wont have any trouble doing all this stuff. thank you.
Hello friends,
Im a new PPC user. I have a T-mobile Wizard. There are a lot of freeware available for the Wizard. Since there are too many pages to read and a lot of freeware to compare, I need some help from Wizard users who had their Wizard for a while now. There are only a couple of things I need from the Wizard.... Outlook Email, Internet, and a good Iphone Theme. Does it makes sense to upgrade to the WM6? What are the benefits of WM6? Other than that I just need my Wizard to be really quick.
Thank you friends in advance and I really hope you can help a new windows mobile user.

Well, you will need to spend some time reading if you want to glean anything from this site.
Anyhow, I would recommend upgrading to WM6. A few reasons being is it has HTML capable Outlook (since you mentioned you'd be using that). It's also less buggy, faster and just more stable than WM5 too.
So, you can leave it as-is, and have a perfectly usable device. Or plan on spending a lot of time reading, reading, and reading some more to upgrade and customize. I'd say it's quite worth it though.
Start in the WIKI. It has links to everything that will get your phone unlocked and upgraded.
Just please keep in mind that this site appreciates those that help themselves first. If you do get stuck on something and can't find the answer, don't hesitate to ask.
Good luck!
Maybe more time reading and less time on the '!' key would help.
I'm going to disagree with TaurusBullba on WM6 stability and speed. I tried a number of WM6 ROMs on my G4 Wizard and found them to have a more issues than my original O2 ROM. That's not to say the O2 ROM didn't have issues, but I found most WM6 ROMs to have more / more serious issues. My advice would be to look at a thread for a ROM you might like to install. You will almost certainly find users stating any issues they're having.
Furthermore, on the ROM front, it requires a lot more reading and a lot less '!' , so I would sit back and be content with WM5 for the moment whilst reading the forum.
You will find the most comprehensive iPhone threads in the General board of this forum, although I believe there is a thread in one of the Wizard boards too.
If you don't mind paying, I've found Opera is a good replacement to Pocket IE.

Thank you for the information. Im actually very familiar with opera. I had it installed on my blackberry and is so much faster. I think I'll Stick with WM5 since everywhere I read they mention that it has a lot more bugs I think I'll wait untill I get more familiar with my wizard and also when the fix the bugs on the WM6. Thank you guys for the replys.
Hello,
Well my story is that I owned a Dell Axim x51v…it died!
Well Now I have a Qtek 9100, i-mate K-JAM, or whatever (I still don’t understand the whole name thing)
With my Dell I flashed ROMs and stuff all the time.
Now can you guys help?
My new phone is unblocked, can I just flash any rom that’s on this page?
Also I have two of them, one is a present for my dad (his birthday is in one week), do you know how I can change the room to Spanish?
Any rom recommendations?
Please help! I want my puppy fighting!!!
Thanks!
Fernando
I'm not sure what you actually meant by 'unblocked'. There are generally two words for phone 'unblocking', that is (a) SIM Unlocked (b) CID-unlocked. If your phone is CID-unlock, then you can flash it with any ROM you want. Check on the XDA-Wiki (top of this page), under.. FAQ for the detail meanings of each words.
HOWEVER, there is this software ShellTools, that is able to flash Wizard (e.g QTek9100, KJAM..etc) without needing it to be CID-Unlocked. Search for it in forum.
As for the ROM, look at the XDA-Wiki under Wizard section, there will be a list of ROMs available, WM5/WM6. Many of the links are dead, but some point to threads that may be still alive.
As for ROM recommendation, it is another 'what's the best ROM' never ending stories. I would recommend you to search for it in the forum to look for suggestions (instead of starting one).
Hi there, first post for me, first day with my O2 XDA Orbit 2. Pardon my ignorance, I've always been a Nokia man, but the orbit 2 seems to be "O2'd" and different to the Touch Cruise I've seen in videos on the net.
I'm hoping this is the same as mobile operators do with Nokia's, and that you can just change the firmware to the standard one.
Having a read, I'm a bit confused between radio versions, rom versions, cooking, language files, reg editing, etc, and was hoping someone could answer the following...
1) Is there an easy way to make my orbit a standard Touch Cruise?
2) Are there any downsides, apart from warranty? i.e. Loss of functions?
Thanks for any assistance! Apologies again for being a noob!
1. Easy enough if you know what you are doing which requires a lot of reading of the wiki and various forums like Kaiser forum for example. This thread would be a good place to start.
2. You may brick you device.
Fantastic. Thanks for the steer Abbsta. I'm a bit wiser now!
I've also seen this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=352625
... called Polaris Project, and I think the output of that is what I'm looking for.
It is indeed. But that is only the ROM and you would need to know/do other things first. That's why it's encouraged to read other threads like the one I pointed out and the wiki.
Hi there:
I am new to Mobile Phone upgrading, so please be patient if some questions seem to be "lame".
I have just obtained an O2 Orbit, (Artemis), for one of my boys. It is in it's original, purchased, state; WM5, etc.
I have been informed that there is an upgrade for the Windows Mobile that will change the O/S to WM 6 or 6.1. Is this true and if so where can this be obtained? Is it an easy task to upgrade?
The next question is slightly more adventurous, I have been told that the iPhone "front end" is available for this phone. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, how can this be obtained and is this a simple transition?
Thanks in advance for anyone that can spare the time to answer these queries.
The O/S upgrades you refer to are available in software downloads called ROMs. A ROM is basically Windows along with a suite of applications that the maker of the ROM has chosen to include with it. For example, the current ROM on your Orbit contains WM 5, Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, etc etc... But someone making their own ROM may decide not to include Windows Media Player and add a different music player instead.
So basically, go through the Artemis forums looking for threads about ROMs. the best ones are the "Touch" and "Vanilla" series of ROMs by Meschle. Sadly he has left the forums but his ROMs can still be found.
Once you have downloaded a ROM, follow the instructions that will probably come with it, or can easily be found on here. Basically it's a 2 step process. You run one file which will remove the SIM lock (you may see the term USPL associated with this). and then another which will install the new ROM.
Just remember though, this will wipe your memory in the process, so make sure you've backed up anything you had on there that you want to keep.
As for the Iphone thing, it's not a complete front end, just several apps designed to make certain functions appear like the Iphone. Although I tried this and it seemed really buggy so I wouldn't recommend
Thanks for the help
WOW:
Thanks for the speedy response and the info'.
I didn't expect a response for days; if at all.
Your info will be acted on ASAP and I will let you know what happens.
Thanks again
Brian
Hi Gaz:
Thanks a lot. I downloaded your recomended ROM's and I have updated the Orbit. It was just as easy as you said. My son is using the phone and finds it infinitely easier to use than his last phone. Once again; thanks for your help from me and my son.
I wonder, do you have knowledge of the Orbit 2 ROM's? I realy would like to alter my O2 Orbit 2 and install the HTC ROM's. This uses TOM TOM and I have used this fro years; I don't like the O2 supplied CoPilot.
I have asked for help on the Orbit 2 forums but I still cannot find the necessary ROM's.
Hopefully
Brian
