Hello
Is there a voice recoder button like the voice dial button.
if not can i assign a combination of buttons (pressing the camera and the voice dial) to do the voice record functionality?
press and hold the voice dial button and you will have a voice recorder.
i also use Resco Audio Recorder but use this for ripping mp3s and converting them, but it does record.
thanks for the reply
the button works, but only seems to work when the device is active(when i have flipped the screen up)
is that the case? is there no way i can press the button while the device is shut close
also it seems that it just activates the program, but i need to hit the record button with the stylus to get the recorder to go, is it not possible that i push the button and the recording starts?
all buttons become deactivated other than the phone buttons in clam position. unfortunately, it has been difficult to resolve this without causing massive battery draings.
in relation to your question re holding the button, hold it even longer, it will commence the record button for you.
it think it will also work properly if in the PDA position but off.
I use it all the time, multiple times a week, especially when driving in the car and something attracts my attention that I need a note of, eg phones, addresses contact details.
thanks for the reply
i pressed for a bit more time and i did manage to get it to go once, however most of the time it does this crick crick again and the recording ends,
do i need to ensure that i got a "minimum amount of "press time" which is more than the time for the voice recording activation and less than the voice record end
what do you mean by "PDA position button off"
in order for the press and hold to work, it must be held down for the entire period of the recording, once you release the button, recording ceases.
pda mode is with the screen rotated out. then, assuming you don't have button lock on, it will wake up and run the notes program.
when the clam is closed, nothing will work.
thanks for the reply
is there any way i can turn off the squeaky sound which indicates the start of the recording
how is button lock turned on?
Settings - Personal - Buttons - Lock - Lock all buttons except power button
Mute the volume before recording, otherwise, I think people should hear the beep as a warning of the recording being undertaken.
thanks for the reply simon
does one mute the volume by using the slider in the front of the phone (pulling it to the left for 10 seconds).
some times when i record, the recording is so faint, is there any way to boost the recording?
two ways
1. you can anable AGC (Automatic gain control) but if using MSVC the it will disable this feature. start - settings - system - mic. AGC
2. start - settings - personal - input - options, you can improve the quality of the recordings. improved quality = increase file size.
I haven't had a problem except when I reducefile size. its really for voice memo recording and expects the device to be relatively close to the mouth.
thanks for the reply simon
What is MSVC?
i guess the AGC would not affect the size of the file?
would the quality of the recording improve gain or would it remove extraneous (non human voice) voice
is there a particular direction/orientation of the device wich will enable me to get the best recording?
What is MSVC?
MICROSOFT VOICE COMMAND
i guess the AGC would not affect the size of the file?
SHOULDN'T DO
would the quality of the recording improve gain
DON'T THINKS SO
or would it remove extraneous (non human voice) voice
DON'T THINK SO, I THINK IT JUST ENHANCES OR SUPERIMPOSES LOW NOISE.
DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT THE SPECIFIC TECHNOLOGY INVOLVED
is there a particular direction/orientation of the device wich will enable me to get the best recording?
HOLDING LIKE YOU WOULD WHEN ANSWERING THE PHONE
I HAVE ENCOUNTERED BAD RECORDINGS MYSELF ON OCCASION, BUT THEY ARE THE EXCEPTION RATHER THAN THE RULE.
thanks for all the replies and information
it's a big hep

I've used the Record button a few times and it is handy for taking notes.
But when I pressed it while I was on a phone call I was surprised that It only recorded my end of the conversation.. Ie using the normal Microphone...
Why did they not put some Logic into thuis button ? - Ie if on a call then record the other end too !
Damn stupid mistake if you ask me..
Greg
Because most countries do not allow recording of telephone calls. You have to obtain a permit from the other side, or issue a clear warning that indicate that the call will be taped/recorded. Not easy to do that on a PDA. I know that some phones will do this, but as said, it's normally not allowed.
Have you tried instead of hitting the record button, tapping the notes icon and then record within that in a phone call?
-arebelspy
I' ve seen that I-mate record all two ends of calls both.
I' m not able to find the registry value for set on this function.
Actually I have mapped my record button to the record function but I have to press the record button on the PDA screen to begin recording
I would like to map my record button as it begins recording immediately and press a second time to stop it.
Is there a mean to do this or an application that record phone conversation automatically ?
Thank You
This will be very helpfull.
Help is definitely appreciated.
Hi people
You can use Vito sound Explorer and map the record button to the soundexplorer application. You'll see its very nice.
You can use Vito sound Explorer and map the record button to the soundexplorer application.

Yes that's very useful ! You map the button in Start > Parameters > Buttons
And after to record you press this button twice (one to launch SoundExplorer and the second to start recording)
To stop recording you just have to press again the button
recording phone calls
But it doesnt record both sides of the conversation.
No it works well for me and I can easily record both voices.
What device are you using? you dont have a profile set up to tell anyone what you are using?? :?
Sorry for that but in the profile you've got only the choice between Wallaby and Himalaya and I have a Magician :?
So I've just put it in my signature...
on v1.11 rom it works fine recording convos i just hold the record button down while incall and it records both voices
if you start recording before doing the call, only the other side's voice will be recorded, but if you start the recording after the number being dialed, then both sides of the conversation will be recorded
This happens with me on my Wallaby..
I donno about other devices!
I have an xda2, do you guys alll have the same??
On my T-Mobile MDA compact with Fonix VoiceDial mapped to the record button, I just have to press the record button more than two seconds and the device automatically starts the notes app and records as long as the button is pressed. Both sides are recorded - works fine for me.
HTH,
BGK
i can't seem to get it to work either... is there any special software that u need to use to record or just the plain old notes will do?
What's the steps? I tried to call before and after recording also to no avail. The only sound i can record is the feedback from my speaker to my mic and it's rather soft.
Hi all
i just installed Vito sound Explorer and it not record in both sides.
I have magician ... maybe is a problem with audio driver of magician incompatibility.
Please let us know if solve the problem.
Thanks
Denis
No, as I wrote before in this thread, I'm recording easily both sides of a conversation with SoundExplorer on my Magician.
I begin the conversation and after launch SounExplorer via a button and record (I press the button twice)
Of course it can't work with BT Headphones...
I think the question is, does Sound Explorer record both sides directly or does it "only" record the remote person via mike via loud speaker? This should be easily to confirm when setting the phone volume to minimum setting and recording a call.
SoundExplorer records the sound in general and have no option to record a phone call.
When I record a conversation I heard my voice, the person who calls me (but the voice is less strong) and all noises around me (so I call in a noiseless place).
That's why you can't record with a BT headphone for example because the Magician microphone can record only your voice
SoundExplorer does record conversations on two ways!
It works great with me..
Just start recording only AFTER the number has been dialed, and you'll be able to record both ways
Ok, so can anyone confirm if there is a software that records both sides of a phone call when using a bluetooth headset?
No, to my knowledge, it's impossible on Magician...
Hello
I have an XDAIIi and am using skype. Ive found that skype outputs to the main pda speaker, not the phone speaeker, and the quality is not a good as the phone one and of course everyone can hear your conversation.
Is there anything I can do or do we have to wait for skype to support this (if they even can?)
Are there any other applications that manage to use the phone speaker?
Thanks for any feedback
Brian
Hi Brian,
I have a Skype with my XDA2i as well & if someone calls me, my XDA's earpiece was the default. If I want to use my XDA's speakerphone (handsfree or where everybody can hear the caller), all I did was to press & hold the "call" button (they also call this as "send" button, the one you press when you answer a phone call) for around 3 seconds. If I want to deactivate the speakerphone, I press the same button for about 3 seconds.
Hold & pressing "call" button for about 3 seconds will activate/deactivate speakerphone. If you still have the XDA2i user manual, kindly check page 48.
I hope this will help you.

you mean your skype can actually work with the earpiece or you mean normal telephone call works by default with the earpiece?
Vmirage & Brian,
I'm so sorry & it was my mistake. I did not realize what I'm typing a while ago. No, you cannot use XDA2i earpiece while on call, the default is the speakerphone (PDA's speaker). Instead, I use my XDA's earphone to have a privacy while on Skype's voice call.
I got mixed up with a normal call & the Skype's voice call.
Again, my apologies.
Oneil3
Have you tried this?
From the authors website
Please, don't even try to run it on other PDAs - it's absolutely pointless

So no I didn't bother
try your BT headset, as IIi support audio gateway. just press the answer button on your BT headset & the sound will be rerouted.
unfortunatly I don't have a headset and really just want to use the phone as normal
I have tried to record a phone call convesation. I want to record both sides. For some reason, it only records my voice.
Is it a bug?
Is it possible at all?
Is there a softare that does that?
saariko: there are quite a number of threads on this subject. All appear to be futile, and little reason to start a new thread. But there was one report of one program that supposedly can record both sides of a call. I think it was Resco something or other. Please report on one of the other threads if you have any success!

Should be able to do it with Resco or ProTone
.
(1) Once the call is connected at both ends, click on the Notes icon on bottom bar and press the record button
(2) Both sides of the call should be recorded
Assume with Resco you do the same thing
(1) Once the call is connected at both ends, run Resco and press the record button

saariko: Steps 1 and 2 work great for me (using the standard phone app) on my Qtek S110. I did not have mine on speakerphone when I tested it - maybe that makes a difference. Or, maybe this a firmware issue? I noticed your radio version is different to mine. Thing is, if you change your radio firmware to 1.12 you may find that you can no longer activate bluetooth whilst the radio is off.
I hope it's not a bug. I find another disturbing isssue, when I have a call on, and after the screen goes off (1 minute) if I turn it on again to search or do anything, the call gets disconnected.
I might go to Orange, see if it's somehting they are familiar with.
Thanks all,
saariko
Just a thought, i know that symbian phones have a software which utilize the accelerometer and mutes the phone call when turned over. is it possible to have a software to use the fort facing camera or back camera in our wm6 devices to detect light during the even of an incoming phone call? it doesnt need to be on all the time so it does not drain the battery and just turned on during phone calls. so front facing camera should detect either "dark-light-dark" (when in pocket) or "light-dark" when the phone is already out. hope that make senses.
what do you guys think? is it a good idea?
not sure if camera can be used for that purpose at all. I think u need extra hardware for that.
When a phone call is coming in the device has to take care of the following actions:
-device wake up
- initiate the incoming call screen
- start number identification (compare to address book)
- start ringer
Your idea would add the following actions:
- initiate (front)camera
- wait for camera to detect current lightning conditions
- if lighting is below a certain value mute sound
I would think that it takes to long to go trough the complete cyclus.
When you make a call to a PocketPC it takes about two "normal" rings to make a device ring. If you add the extra feature it might even be 4 or 5. Before you can even react the caller might already be redirected to the voice mail I'm afraid.
i thought of that mccune, but u will need another program to analyze the bringhtness, may be a new library, or tap into camera library, which I dont think it's easy to do.
you are right, it's probably not idea to execute camera function while phone ringing, worst case scenario the phone hang, or the call got disconnected.
but i love to see it works
well i see it that if the front camera activate when there is an incoming video call then wm6 should be able to handle just detecting the light effect without hanging. just a thought, at least its a start for all of us that do not have accelerometer and it can be develop for some other use too.
