Hi there
I bought the T-mobile version of the Universal, previously iu was using a HP4700 and a Nokia 3g phone but just wanted the integrated solution. I am not really interested in the voice capacbilites only the data and messaging side. I was dissapointed to discover that MSN messenger was not included in the T-mobile load , but decided that I would load and pay for the Mobile MSN at £10.99. It would not set up on my existing MSN account and kept giving error 3002 message when i registered on the MS website. There were no error messages on the MDA prop.
In desparation I set up a new Passport account and installed the SW on this with no propblems. But unfortuanetely MS only licence the indiviudal passport to be used with this software and not the MDA machine. So i contaqcted the support guys at MS who have made lots of suggestions and none of these work I still get the Error 3002 on the MS web site everytime I try to register to use my original MSN account. It will not even allow me to pay a second time for this peice of software.
Can anyone help me to get a copy of MSN messenger for the MDA that does not require the crazy MS registration process as I really need the MSN messenger feature and have to leave my MDA pro at home and use the old 3g phone and HP 4715. This obviosly was not the idea behind buying the MDA pro.
Rgeards
Charlie
I am not sure if your problem is related to mine, but I too wanted to install Pocket MSN on my MDA Pro. However, the activation process failed time and time again with an error message stating that the "e-mail address used to log in" was invalid.
I think Pocket MSN only supports the use of a hotmail-address, instead of a "normal" e-mail address that I use in my MSN/Passport account.
Did you use a "normal" e-mail address as well? If so: Were you able to activate this account on the MSN web site for use with Pocket MSN?
I hope you are wrong
Jorg
Aha i did not use an MSN account but my own account on my company domain for the initial attempts. Then when i created a new passport i just used a MSN account, and it worked . Then i tried to use the passport from my own domain on the mda pro and it did not work. But no where on the MSN site did it say you had to have an MSN account to use it. It just said you needed a passport. DOes any one know if the bundled versio n with the MDA requires an MSN email address? as the posket MSN on the xda ii or the HP4700 i have were fine with my private email passport?
This is a serious pain. Can microsoft really be this crazy? lots of people use passports with their private email address and not an msn one. I really cannot get my head around having to change about 100 or more contacts I regularly communicate with to a new MSN account.
There must ba another way?
Charlie,
Just to avoid too many threads on this topic: In this thread I have a suggestion for an alternative MSN client that works for me (until MS solves this problem)

my situation is different to yours - I am uing the XDA Exec with the provided MSN software - but for what it's worth, I use msn with a 'regular' email-address Passport.
if there is anything useful that we could compare between the MSN on Execs and yours, feel free to ask away!
Just out of curiosity but is there a way to prevent MSM mobile from showing offline contacts?
I find it really annoying.
Also dont seem to be able to group contacts?
TBH I wouldnt pay for this software there are better shareware options ..
according to o2 you dont need a premium account to use the messenger servce
I have just upgraded from the HTC Wizard to the TyTN which is an orange branded device I have removed (stopped) the orange customization, but I seem to be missing the MSN part of windows. I've looked on the windows mobile 5 web site, msn web site, but can't find where to down load it. any ideas?
Thanks to all the great information this site has provided I was able to completly open my wizard thanks to this site alone!!!! job well done!!!!
...Isn't msn embedded in wm5, mine is. It's called: pmsnlauncher.exe. I attache one but don't know if it's working standalone...
I just moved from the M2000 to the M3100 today and was dismayed to find no msn messenger pre-installed.
Seemingly it will not let me install Agile Messenger either, as it says that it is not supported.
I have discovered a link in the files which takes you to msn Mobile but then tries to charge you 10.99 to install it. Is there anyway around this, as I use msn a lot whilst travelling, yet loathed to paying for something I expected for free.
Any help?

You need to app-unlock the 3100 before you can install Agile. Once you've done that, it works fine.
To app unlock it, use a registry editor to set the following registry keys (these are decimal values, use 1 and 40 if you're inputing them in hex):
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 1
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 64
For some reason people haven't had much success with other registry editors, so I would recommend Resco's, which I can vouch for through experience.
Yep - installed it on my M3100 today.
Here's a link on how to do it:
http://www.coolsmartphone.com/news2266.html
Follow the instructions exactly:
1) Download and install the WM2002 client
2) Download and install the WM2003 update
presto it works!
I managed to get a pre-registered Pocket MSN by copying files over from my dusty old HP I don't use anymore.
Files copied:
pmsnshared.dll
pmsnserver.exe
pmsnresources.dll
pmsnresources.96.dll
pmsnlauncher.exe
pmsnhotmail.dll
pmsn.lnk
pmsn.cpl
Needed to remove the system file attribute to copy it over though. I guess this is helpful if you have a copy of a pre-installed Pocket MSN lying around that you don't use anymore!
If the admins believe this isn't legal, feel free to delete!
Or just go here and download and install it normally.....

Yeah, but if you use this link you have to pay £10.99 to use a program that everyone uses for free...

Yeap it is, i've been using it since three days now had no problem.
Hi All,
I downloaded Mobile Live and Messenger from this forum, and was able to install it on my Orange M3100. I then hook up my M3100 to my work wifi. I then run Live, and comes up saying "looking for internet connection" It then comes up with the bubble saying connecting to 3G, which I then hit cancel. It then seems to use the wifi connection the syncronise. Also when using it it, the 3G connection bubble appears regularly, and I have to cancel it. Is there any way I can stop Windows Live and messenger using the 3G service, and just WiFi?
thank
Nick

am actually after the hotmail part of the program than the other bits. i copied all the above files from my m5000 to the m3100 when you click on pmsnluncher nothing happens. what am i doing wrong. please note there are other solutions to get msn messager working, but this dosn't include the hotmail setup. ..help
That guy is missing a few files there, just to let you know.
oh great !!!!!!!!!
can't wait for the beta fto end to i can't get the damm thing.
oh by the way you wouldn't know what the other files are would you?
Windows Live Messenger Mobile is still down, with no end in sight. I really haven't had a chance to look at the newsgroups lately to find out what's going on, but I guess I'll have to.
at least i can give Yahoo Go some credit here, thier ppc client program works pecfectlyon my m3100 collecting all my yahoo emails.. let just hope google follow suite with a client version for picking up emails on the ppc.
Gmail supports pop / smtp access, and uses non-standard ports, so you can use pocket outlook to retrieve / send emails on it without problems.
Anyone have a messenger client that will support aim and such so I dont have to pay 30 dollars for im+ etc. I thought it could possibly be built into say WM6 black because I read that windows included it in their WM6 release for the T-Mo dash. If not anyone have a free aim client or a way around paying 20-30$
I found this AIM cab on like a UK AOL site I think, since they stupidly stopped making it in the US. It's kind of old, but it works!
http://rapidshare.com/files/30350469/aim.zip.html
There is also the Cingular one that uses SMS.
To use it, make sure you open PIE or something to get online as it won't automatically connect. When you first start it, go to send an IM, and it will prompt you for login information which it will save once you hit send.
You could also search for a cracked version of one of the commercial messengers. I'm not gonna post a link lol but you can PM if you want.
Just a update, or u could use a reg hack to make the hermes log onto the net everytime u booted the phone up, then u woud'nt have to remember to open Pie up and type a web address in to log onto the net, that's what i used to do but as i use wm6 now and my phone log's onto the net when i swich the phone on as i've got a exchange server setup on the phone. u can get the reg hack for loging onto the net auto by doing a search on xda. there is a free multi messenger program what i used to use called Imov basic u can download it and check out the screenshots from http://soft.softoogle.com/ap/imov-messenger-basic-download-1104.shtml. it's 100% free and works with jabber, google, msn, yahoo, aol & irc
I know the wizard comes with MSN, but the usage comes off of your MediaNet (using cingular) amount. Is there a MSN application that runs like the AIM application; runs off text messages?
Also I heard that ATT now provides an IM client. I can't seem to find a link to download it.
search this this forum for windows live messenger for mobiles ..install it ..hope that will work on cingular. it uses GRPS/data transfer.
Yeah, I know it'll work, though I don't have a data plan at the moment.
I have AIM, which uses data to connect (if using gprs) but the sent and recieved go against my text messages.
Looking for a good Windows Mobile FTP client. I had a lot to choose from on my old Palm device, but having difficulty with finding one for WM5 or WM6.
try total commander
FTP
There are a few out there but mainly commercial. I'm trialling vxftp, cause I need scripting/command line usage as I'm trying to use Mortscript to automate backing up my Pim Backups to server.
Other commercial programs are Orneta, GetIt FTP, Porta+ FTP, 324ftp.
Try searching www.pocketpcfreewares.com for some freebies.
I'm probably going to buy vxftp when the trial runs out, but if anyone knows of a freeware program that can be run from command line or scripted I would be grateful.
cheers
Mark
