GPRS and Cradle - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
I have GPRS set up on my XDA2i. Though whenever I put it in the cradle to sync up with my PC - the GPRS connects up. I thought it was the Activesync option - 'Use mobile schedule to sync with this PC' - so I unchecked this.
Though it is still connects via GPRS when i put it in the cradle.
I take it there is another option that I am missing .
Any help?
Thanks.

in connections in system you can choose
my isp or my network as which connection is used

I dont quite follow.
Under Settings -> Connections , I have My ISP and My Network.
What am I supposed to do with them?
Thanks

ActiveSync Over WIFI

ActiveSync Over WIFI - does anyone know if this is possible.
I use WIFI at home on my XDAII for the internet, but would like to Sync it with my laptop without having to drag the cable home (or buy another usb cable)
Any ideas ?
Cheers
Yes, sure you could do it! Just make sure ActiveSync Connection settings on your desktop PC include Ethernet (right click on ActiveSync icon on the taskbar, choose Connection Settings and click on Allow network). Then, run ActiveSync on XDA-II and choose same 'synchronise via Network' setting - there is one on the 'Advanced' tab I think (can't say exactly, as my wife plays Lines on it right now ) - just type in your PC NETBIOS name (I guess it will be there already if you connected via USB before). I've tried it and it worked straight away (although takes few secs more to connect).

YOU BEUT ! I'D KISS YOU ... if
1. you were female
2. you were good looking
3. you were in close vacinity!
I had to run active sync, go to tools > Options > Server
And add "//myname" and untick SSL
However, my WIFI network card is set to MOBILE WEB GPRS (for IE and MSN, inbox etc) and it wanted WAP network GPRS so tried to dial up.
I changed the WIFI card to be WORK instead of INTERNET and it worked great.
Not sure if I have WORK and INTERNET set up correctly, it is basically how it came setup for GPRS access. But I don't mind changing it over now and then unless someone knows a better way?
(interesting that I managed to do an o2 Active update via the WIFI card! and not WAP GPRS - something I can't do while connected via USB? but can surf via USB )
Anyway... RESULT ! cheers
Well, obviously not female (while nothing is impossible in modern world - you could change sex, not only ROM version in your XDA ). As for the Wi-Fi card setup - it's quite simple, you'd better set it to 'Work' always unless you are connecting from Starbucks, and then change properties of 'work' connection, checking 'Connects to Internet' box and entering your proxy address. All these 'ISP' and 'Work' settings seemed to be pretty confusing to me first time until I understood how it works. You could not browse network through an USB cable (a mystery to me, since it's a normal PPP connection!), so Wi-Fi is probably the best option for all tasks - synchronisation, browsing etc.
Thanks for your help, I'll have a play

GPRS and ActiveSync

Hiya
I've looked in the previous topics but can't find anything about this...
What happens is this... I sync my xda2 onto my pc and it downloads various bits n bobs from the net through the pc connection (weatherpanel etc). If I disconnect my phone from the cradle and then the weatherpanel program tries to connect, it tries to connect through WAP Network GPRS (as set up in the auto config when the xda2 is first installed)...this never seems to work.
If I change the net connection from My Work to My ISP it's great - it will connect MOBILE WEB GPRS when it's not cradled and download the data. Unfortunately if I then reconnect to the cradle it recognises the activesync connection but then tries to redial my gprs connection instead of going through the pc connection.
What trick am I missing? Put simply I wish it to have one profile (that i don't have to keep changing) where when it's docked it goes through my pc net connection, and when carrying it around it knows to connect to the mobile web gprs.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks
Anthony
Try to use Auto Pick option in the connection settings (must have both connections in the same group)
just an idea
Give this a try:
Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select Networks >
then set both drop down menus to My ISP.
Hope this works.

ActiveSync won't connect automatically

I have my O2 mini to connect to Exchange Server, however, it won't connect automatically (my settings is at every 15 minutes). It kept generating the following error:
"unable to connect, verify your dialup or proxy settings are correct, and try again. Error code: CONNMGR_36"
However, if I connect the GPRS manually first, and then manually press the Sync button for Active Sync (at O2 mini), ir works just fine.
Please help. It drives me crazy to manually do this all the time!
Thanks, William
I think you're connect to gprs using work profile in network connections. Thats why it is checking dial-up username, proxy setting and others. Change the connect ot ISP for activesync. Also you can keep GPRS always connected. Why you need to disconect GPRS?
Thanks for the reply. where do you change the settings so that activesync will connect ot ISP? I don't see any settings/options at all at the activesync tools menu.
Also, how do you keep the GPRS connected all the time? My GPRS got disconnected from time to time.
Sorry for all these questions. I am a newbie at pocket pc (just transfer from my good ol' palm to the awesome o2 mini).
Thanks again,
William
To change that go to setting > connections > connections > advanced > select network. Chosse internet programs "My ISP" and go back to Tasks in connections and configure you gprs connection details in "My ISP".
Your GPRS disconnection issue you have talk with your provider support. Mine I will never disconnect it.
still not working. Activesync still won't connect automatically, but manually works fine. Any tips?

Connection priority / muns SE

Hi,
Anyone know how to specify that the trinity uses the activesync passthrough then wi-fi then lastly gprs/3g when it requires data?
Its proper annoying that it connects to gprs when plugged in and wi-fi is enabled!
Erm...shouldn't do, doesn't for me!
Thats nice for you, but really...I am not making this up!
Try this:
Open ActiveSync on you PC, Navigate to File > Connection Settings, un-tick 'Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop'.
I also dont have this problem.
As a sanity check, have you selected "this computer is connected to: The Internet/Work Network" in the Connection settings of Windows Active Sync. Also, is your wifi adapter set up to connect to "the internet"?

yes - although I'm usind wmdc and yes...hmmm
I also use WMDC. Does your pda connect to gprs for any site at all, or just a particular one such as your service provider's homepage. I have mine set up to always use gprs to connect to the vodafone live website, otherwise it uses wifi/activesync as the default.
On your pda, under settings->connections->advanced->exceptions. do you have any url exceptions listed?
Also, under settings->connections->advanced->select networks, is your gprs connection under the "programs that auto. connect to the internet", or "programs that connect to a private network".
My gprs settings are under private network, and I have checked the box stating the private network connects to the internet under proxy settings.
where do your gprs settings reside?

How do you keep ActiveSync from changing your proxy settings on Wizard?

My wife is using a T-Mobile MDA at work and her job uses proxy to get network access for their desktop computers. We're using T-Mob web plan (T-Zones) and use a proxy setting to access to the internet. But when she connects her phone to her desktop, it changes her current connection to the companies proxy and port info. She really doesn't need to access the internet while connected to ActiveSync, so how do I keep ActiveSync from changing the proxy settings? Or is there a way to have both proxy settings and switch automatically? It seems like Active sync will change the proxy info of whatever connection is set in the phone when connecting. Any advice would be appreciated.

i think you need to have one setting only!
you can try to disable the advanced network connectivity for the active sync at work! go active sync - file - (make the following settings)
this computer is connected to - work network
uncheck the two boxes below
that what i do for my work computer - hope this useful
best wishes
Thanks... I had the same problem with my HD2 but your tipp is working for me... nevertheless, as long as my ohone is connected via USB to my work computer the GPRS connection is down, so I can't receive mails or surfe the internet with my phone and its normal GPRS connection - any ideas how to do something about this?
I use my ActiveSync at work to synch the Outlook calender entries but also to charge the batterie at the same time. Until I used your settings I had to modify the proxy settings (delete proxy) every time I disconnected the HD2 from the PC. Now that this is solved I would like to use the time having my phone connected to the PC to use the internet as well - as it is working when it's only connected in harddisk mode...
Thanks in advance!
DW!
