Prevent the Phone from ringing out loud when on headphones? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
I noticed that my Wizard (updated to the last WWE rom) rings out loud through the speaker when receiving a call while headphones are connected through the jack. I'd like it to only ring in the headphones. Is it possible? Is this a known issue?
Thanks.
EDIT: I just found the solution myself:
I set the key \\\registry\HKCU\Control Panel\SoundCategories\Ring\Speaker to 0. It works!

This is just GREAT. Big thx for finding this, been looking for this for a long time, checked all the music players but none offered it. Thx again

i was looking for this too
thanks!

This is great BUT... is there a way to have the mic work while on the headphones? Because when I get a call while on my headphones I have to pull out the headphone jack in order for the other person to hear me. This would be great and very useful.

it might be a hardware issue?
it worked fine on my jam (i use the treo adaptor) and not my wizard
i'll have to test the stock jam headset on the wizard to know for sure
well it'd be better if i was wrong

Just to clarify, does the registry edit turn the ring off the speaker permanently, or just whent he headphones are plugged in?
Cheers.

Just when the headpones are plugged in.

No sound during call, however speakerphone & headset wor

I have the same problem:
No sound during call, however speakerphone works and headset works well. There is no sound only when I use it as regular phone. Person on the other line can hear me well all the time.
When I raise volume during call I can hear peices of the person on the other line, at the same time as phone beeps that it reached sound maximum.
This happened after phone was dropped and it hard reset itself automatically.
I am trying to reboot it now with different ROM.
Headset jack hasnothing to do with it, since speakerphone works well.
If anybody has any idea please share.
Thanks
This is a hardware issue, (the audio for the internal speaker and microphone is routed via the headphone socket) The socket has a very small switch that is opperated by physically inserting the jack plug. Sometime mine plays up and I fix it by pushing a straigtened out paperclip into the socket.

Big Thanks DOC C
This is the first time i post a reply even though i've been a member of xda-developers for a long time and like the work done here. I must say that I was about to throw my phone if it wasn't for DOC D. The problem is indeed with the headphone jack. Sound in my earphones is messed up and phone calls have no voice. You just saved me a few hundred bucks!! BIG HUG!

Did you use to carry your pone in your pocked? Sometimes there is a small peace of dust opening that small switch inside the headphone jack. Maybe you try to get rid of it with compressed air. In some cases the connection between that connector and the main-board is broken. Dismantling is a good idea, but you have to know, what you're doing. The fact that the headphone is working well, is a good sign, that the problem is inside that jack.
In some cases the springs that contact the speaker to the MB are worn or dusty, try to get a better connection.

No sound from speaker while calling

Hi ppl! Let's see if I can express my problem!
My wizard is having this problem:
The inside speaker doesn't work during a call, only loud speaker(hands free) works, or by handset or bluetooh speaker! Does any one have this kind of problem?
I've send this one to warranty but, i've got a stupid respond from HTC:
"....Dear Sr. You have used an illegal software that damage you HTC motherboad...". Uaaauuu I've never used any 3rd software on this one. after received this answer Yesterday I made the first update to this phone (install the XDA Mobile 6 Release 3) but the problem still there.
Does any one have some ideas?
Now a stupid question ? how many speakers does wizard have ? 2 ?
Thanks for your time.

A while ago i had a similar problem where the phone thought my wired headset was plugged in and would not send the sound to the speakers... Only the headset, so i put some music on and plugged the headset in and out pretty fast until the sound came out the speakers in the phone. I think it had something to do with the switch inside the jack port that controls where the sound goes. Anyway that fixed mine but im not sure whats happening with yours.
The wizard has 3 speakers
2 Stereo speakers, one on each side
1 Speaker for calling in between the flashing lights

Thats very true, if headset is used often or used much of the time, then the clips inside the jack port get over stretched and won't come back to it's original place after the input jack of headsets is plugged out, thus, not allowing to pass through the voice to the speakers.
Hi again! thanks for your replay!
Yes it was true about the mini jack! A good cleaning have solve 50% of the case!
The sound now cames out from the 2 stereo speakers ! But not from the speaker for calling!
I'm start to suspects from the speaker! Is it hard to dismount the wizard ???
Regards ,
Rui

Use in Car through Aux in

hi,
I have been using a Nokia phone with a 3.5 mm audio jack to connect it to my aux-in of the car and listen to music as well as make or take calls. The phone mic picks my voice quite well and I hear back the calling party through the car speakers.
Does the same work with HTC Touch HD too?
Update: I have connected the HTC Touch HD to my car's Aux in and it works well with the THD's mic picking up my voice easily. I had echo on a couple of calls but would like to check for its recurrence to believe that's some problem with unit or with the connectivity.
Afraid not mate.
When you plug something in the earphone socket, it assumes there's a mic plugged in too, like when you plug in a hands-free kit.
I've got exactly the same setup and didn't click what the problem was the first time I took a call. I just sat there like a pratt, shouting "HELLO" at my phone! lol
There may be a software workround for this, but not that I'm aware of.
I use the same approach.. but currently even though I am using a Belkin cable to a pretty neat deck.. the sound is completely off.. Treble is too high.. and My faithful kenwoods which would handle the full Volume of my N95-2 with ease are now cracking up.
Any ideas??

Ideally, you should have the phone volume at about 75% of its max (between the phone volume itself, and the volume on the music player application), and control overall volume from the deck. If it still sounds dodgy after that, mess about with the equalizer on whatever player you're using, or the htc audio booster.
If anything, mine's a little quiet, but I've not tried messing with output volume settings in Tweak HD. I tend to have to have my deck turned up about 70-80%, whereas I normally have the radio at about 20-30%.

Asking this question to all. Is anyone aware of any software to use HTC Touch HD mic while using a 3.5 mm headphones through its audio jack.
not both speakers and mic are off when in headset mode
it's a hardware thing
but like with htc headsets you can connect external speakers and mic to the conntors and it works
easy way is to tear the headset apart and solver in the stuff you want to the connector which came with the headset

Mine works fine setup like this. I've got a 3.5m jack coming out and going into the back of my headunit. I can make calls without a problem. The phone seems to realise the connected jack doesn't have a mic so uses the internal one.
The first time I tried it though the person at the other end couldn't hear me but finally worked out this was because the cradle I was using was blocking the mic on the bottom of the phone! I quick readjustment of the cradle and everything was fine.
Sound quality when playing tunes has always been fine but the voice quality aint that great, the person at the other end sometime complains about echo.

Hmm.... I'll have to have a play with that then, as it was a total failure for me previously. I definitely didn't have the mic blocked, as my cradle holds the phone by the sides.
Cheers for that - I'll have a play about.
How about something like this?
http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Audio-3.5-mm-Adapter-with-Microphone-for-iPhone/3440143/product.html?cid=133635
(iPhone example but googling "3.5mm microphone output" finds you more, all about £3)
"How about something like this?"
there is not standart for how 3.5mm jacks with mics work as in the width of the ring and such
doubt very very very much that iphone converter would work with anything but an iphone
Thats a good idea. I havent tried this myself but its not experience that the hadware needs an attached mic when plugging the 3.5mm into speakers. I use high quality headphones with no attatched mic to listen to music on the HD and can take calls via the phone or skype by using the headphones and the phone mic.

Same setup as me for the last 12 months. I have to play around with the volume setting on the HU / HD all the time - its not ideal but the internal mic seems to pick up voice fine (and echo!).

Headset and rintone problem - please post your experiences

Alright, don't know when this started but I currently have Duttys HGR1.
The problem is that when I have the standard headset (that came with the TD2) the ringtone is played in the headset, so if I have the phone on my desk I can barely hear when there's an incoming call. Worse is, that if the phone is in another room I can't hear it at all.
I have tried different headsets but all with the same problem. When I unplug the headset it's all working as it should.
Can you please post your experience on this, how's it working for you?
I haven't experience it with my TD2, but for me it's OK like that. It was just like that on my previous phones, Nokia, SE...
Logicaly is if you have attached headset that headset should be on head and listening, not disturbing anyone arround.
This is my thinking, I would like to read others also.
uhm...just unplug your headset while sitting on your desk? or any time you AREN'T using it...seriously, the effort of plugging in a mini USB jack is...minimal...to say the least.
I use bluetooth stereo headphones that have such good ear buds, that if my phone WERE to ring loud and not via the headphones, i wouldn't hear it!
Thank's for you input guys.
Might sound like a non-issue but to me it is since I have to connect and disconnect the headset maybe 20 times a day and eventually the usb-port will give up.
I could understand that this is the way it's supposed to work, but before upgrading the ROM (I think that was when this changed) it worked just like I wanted it to.
So my hope is that there is a registry setting for this. If it is, please share! That would really help me out!
Leban,
I can sympathise with you. I have a similar problem. In my car, my car cradle is an FM transmitter and charger. Therefore, my TD2 thinks it is a headset, so all sound is sent through the transmitter. This is great if I am listening to music through the car radio, but often I am not. Therefore, the only way I can tell if there is an incoming call or email or SMS is by looking at the screen. I would like the sound for these notifications to come through the external speaker even if it is connected to the transmitter.....
We all use our phones differently don't we, so Drag-on, don't assume we are all like you.

i completely agree, i just couldn't think of a practical, real-life example where one would need to change where the ring came out of. You did that for me
I am quite sure it IS do-able...i'll ask around.

Nothing new here? Would be really great if this was possible to change!
This "feature" drives me crazy
Another example is when I'm in my car, if I have the phone enxt to me I can't hear the ringing. And NO, I don't want to sit for hours in my car with the headset in my ears

Microphone doesnt work when I plug my earphones

I have a problem when I go with the earphones listen music o the radio if I receive a calling I cant speak to the phone because it doesnt work if the earphones are pluging on the device.
That it's very anoying and I have to unpluged the earphone, and when the calling is finishe the music is playing through the speaker phone.
I need a solution.
Thank you very much
Does the microphone work when you aren't listening to music?
Have you tried switching from speaker to headset softkey option within the phone call to get it to work?
I have Jabra Chill and everything works perfectly...what is your software version
The problem is when you pug your headphone in the phone the micro doesn't work and if you receive a call the person who is calling you doesn't hear anything.
dlamber7 I dont Know how is the soft key are you talking about because when I receive a call in the screen of the phone is speaker mute and anothes icons I dont remember, thank you anyway

My Software version is 7.10.7720.68 TOUCH-IT modify ROM
I got the same Problem. Do your volume buttons work?
My guess is: I used the headphones on my iPod and pressed a button on the headphones - since then they do not work with my phone any more..
My volume keys works perfect, thank you...
It will solve upgrade the SO 7740...until I know that it solves my problem I dont do anything.
Well I've been using my trophy for almost a year now and never had that problem, despite frequently listening to music on it (on headphones right now, and just did a voice search through the handset microphone), so I can't imagine what could he causing your problem.
The only potential workaround that comes to mind is to get a pair of headphones with a mike in them, and use the phone hands-free.

Are you using the headphones that came with the phone? Are you talking about the microphone on the phone?
Joe
I dont use the hedaphones that came with the phone I use a sennheiser, these work perfectly with a nokia (N8-00) and I dont know what it is the problem.
I try to find the original headphones and I will say if the problem it solves.
And I am talking about the microphone on the phone it doesnt work it is like the phone doesnt recognize they are a headphones and no a handset.
