Hi, this is a really stupid little problem but it's really annoying as it happens everyday:
In portrait mode, I go to my calender and click Menu -> New Appointment with the soft keys, and then it opens and the cursor is flashing in the subject field. However, as it's doing that, I like to flip it into landscape mode so I can type the subject quickly.
My problem is that 5 seconds after I flip it into landscape mode, it decides that I've finished with that field and stops letting me type. It's really annoying as I'll be a few characters into writing the subject, when the cursor disappears. I then am forced to pull out my stylus and click the subject field, or use my finger.
Any idea how I can solve this, besides opening in landscape mode before I do Menu -> New Appointment?
Thanks
I have noticed the same issue, and I think it's a bug.
You can tab and back tab to get to the field without using the stylus, that's one way to overcome it, the other of course is to remember to switch before entering any data.

Anyone know how this toggles? At the moment mine isn't popping up every time, but a week ago it was. Now with the big-ass keyboard of the JJ in landscape mode, I don't want this to popup and wondered if anyone knows how to toggle it?
I haven't quite figured it out, but it seems to be some sort of a 'smart' thing.
I think it works like this... if you have the phone in tablet mode and use the button to bring up the keyboard, then it seems to keep coming up automatically whenever you put the cursor in a text field. If you switch to laptop mode and enter a text field the keyboard still comes up, but if you type something with the keyboard then the onscreen keyboard disappears and I think that will stop it from coming up automatically... until you pull it up again in tablet mode.
Thanks for the reply. It's an interesting idea. As it's not doing it right now, I am almost scared to put it to the test
Anyone else tried it or had this problem?
Its not a problem, Brett is quite right. If you put the screen KB away with the stylus and type on the KB it will pop back up again next time you enter a field. If you hit a key on the KB with the screen KB still visible it will disapear and not come back til you go into portrait mode or bring the KB up again manually.

If I am in the text messaging screen in landscape mode, and close the phone into portrait mode, the screen does not completely rotate.
The top portion of the screen switches, and the bottom menu bar switches, but there is a section about 1/3 the size of the screen that remains in landscape mode until I close the text message program.
It only does it in texting, no other programs cause this problem with the screen, and it has only started doing it since I hard reset the phone.
Any help??
Yeah, texting does some strange stuff for me too. Sometimes when I push the button to select the contact i want to text it takes quite awhile for it to bring up the texting screen. And yes, same as you on the switching from landscape.
hmm.... That's wierd. I cant seem to find anything else relating to this problem
i am having the same problem also.. but recently it stopped.. idk wuts going on?
well, i figured out what the problem was with mine. It was doing it because I hacked the registry for the SIP to completely kill the pop-up keyboard. After re-enabling it, no more screen issue.
Just curious is their a way to disable it only in landscape mode?
Im using pocketcm and it pops up when ever im sending a text.
I checked in the regestry and i tried sktools, but its an older release.
Im running Schap's WM6 Pro 4.22 lite ROM and ive checked in his advanced tools...nada.
there's a bunch of programs that let you set different soft keyboard depending on if you're in portrait or landscape mode; one off the top of my head is PQzII. i think QuickMenu might also have the feature, but i can't check right now. anyway, set whatever soft keyboard you want for portrait mode, but for landscape, grab the soft keyboard named NullKeyboard. it's like a blank keyboard, which is as close as you can get to solving your problem. just use PQzII (or whatever) to set the landscape keyboard as NullKB, and you're all set.
Worked like a charm...Thanks
On my Kaiser, if it pops up in landscape mode, if I just start typing with my hardware keyboard, it goes away automatically. Does the Hermes not do that?

Click to collapse
It does, but not when i use contactcm. Even now i noticed when i use null keyboard contactcm it still shows 2 send buttons on the screen and the keyboard comes back but u cant see it.. so null didnt really help with that program, No biggie ill just tap the screen to drop the keyboard. once i do that it dosnt pop back up, unless i close the program.. only happends on 2 programs i use.
Is it possible to keep the 6800 in landscape mode at ALL times unless I manually press a mapped key or click a rotate icon? There are alot of times where I'm sending tons of text messages and I'm constantly opening and closing the phone and the delay for the screen to rotate around gets REALLY annoying. I'd really like it if I could just keep it in landscape mode and switch it back manually when I'm done
Thanks in advance for any advice!
start, settings, personal, sceen allows you to rotate orientation.
You're right, it does. But that setting is overridden whenever you slide the keyboard in/out. So if I were to go set my 6800 to landscape manually, then open the keyboard and close it again, it will automatically go back to portrait mode regardless of what I've set as my personal setting.
I'm looking for a way to stop my 6800 from automatically changing the screen orientation when the keyboard is slid in or out
try this it should work for you.
Thanks for that. It will suffice for the time being until I find some way to make the change fully manual. Seems I've found some people on PPC Geeks who are looking for a solution to this as well.
Hopefully someday someone will figure it out
supposedly someone is going to post something that may help!

Hi,
I love swype, however I have one major problem when using it with a chat program like Gtalk.
As you know when you put it in a landscape mode, you can't use the on-screen keyboard and see the screen at the same time. Problem is that you can't see their messages when you are typing, and you have to keep flipping back and worth.
I wonder if there is a app or a feature in built already which gives a single line input box, rather taking the whole top screen. That way you can see what the other person is seeing.
Cheers
