How can I disable GPRS and UTMS? I mean realy disable, so I cannot use it anymore. (or someone else)
Option 1: Ask your service provider to disable Data on your account,
Option 2: Delete the settings and don't lend your device to anyone,
Option 3: Use a different device.
Why would you want to permanently disable GPRS and UMTS on a device which has those as one of its selling points?

i dont know if anyone can help me with this or i am just being thick and its allready possible to do, but i am having a horrible time with setting up my applications and using the internet.
I use quite a few applications that ask for either a network (Resco for acessing my files on my computer) and also the internet (mail, PIE etc).
i cant seem to strike a balance between these programs and the possible connections (Wi-fi / gprs), if i set up my internet connection as a proxy with the deatils for my acess point at home then i can get my files on my comp and acess to the internet. but as soon as i leave the bubble of my home then everything goes haywire.
is there a way to set up a hieracy and advanced rules for what connections to use for what programs and when? and possibly an option to ask before dialing a gprs connection?
any help would be great
thanks all
Any way to disable gprs in the handset. Some of my applications are using gprs for updating and my service provider is charging me like anything. I have wifi and want to use that alone for data... is there a setting somewhere which will help me in disabling GPRS
i tried the nodata ( nogprs) application but its not working for me

Do you need GPRS at all? If not, go to Settings->Connections->Connections->Manage existing and delete everything.
Setting > Connection and select "my work network" as internet connection instead of your provider's one.
You can change it back anytime you need to really use GPRS

In the registry you’ve got the following key:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections
Export this key to enable GPRS later on.
Go inside your data connections and you’ll find a key, “Enabled." This key has a value 1, change this for every connection to 0.
There, you're done.
You could try to go to the Comm Manager and disabling "Phone" and activating Wi-Fi.
Hope this helps!
Try the Moto Toggle Widget on the market. Requires root, but works
I recently got the HD, but since I live in Canada I figured it wasn't worth it to get a data plan (Can only use EDGE and prices are outrageous). As such, I'm wondering if there are any apps or methods to block data.
I would still want to be able to use wifi for internet and such, but stop EDGE from working. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Goto the Comm Manager and turn Data Connection off? Don't know what that does to wifi which has a seperate on/off? That failing, could you not disable data from your operator?
what works for me is to set networks for automatic internet access to "company network":
Start - settings - connections tab - connections icon - extended tab - select networks - automatic internet access => set to company network
I have a german device so had to guess english names ... be warned.
if you make the change and try to update weather data you should get an error.
Set it back to your phone provider should make it connect (and charge you) again.
I called my carrier and asked for data transfer to be blocked.
Start - Settings - Connections
Tap the Connections icon
There you might see an entry for your mobile provider - in my case I see
"Vodafone Live"
- Add a new modem
- Edit my proxy server
- Manage existing connections
Tap 'Manage existing connections'
You will see a list of modems (in my case I see 'Vodafone Live')
Tab and hold the modem
Choose delete
Anyone tried MoDaCo's NoData utility?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444541
dwnload tweaks 3.3. There is an option to disable one or al of your data connections.
You need to install compact framework 3.5 first (google it if unsure).
Hi out there,
searching for a while now. Found nothing, but CommMgrPro which is way to much.
I search for a simple software to automatically disable GPRS/UMTS data while roaming and enable it back when logged into my provider again.
Would be nice to have more than one "home" provider.
Any hints? Thanks and happy holidays.
the simplest way is change your mobile while roaming
i was surprised that my htc touchpro activate
data communication automatically while i
had disactivated data com before.
Modaco NoData
Thanks. At least a simple way to enable and disable.
My problem is that i live close to the boarder (germany/france) and that i flip into roaming here really fast.
An automatic solution is needed very urgend.
Locking to my provider is ok, but the htc asks me what provider to join, when back.
All that sucks.
I cant believe that there is no solution.
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that?
Nobody?
Nobody else who got this problem and nobody who got a solution?
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that? The documentation is bad.

Maybe you can PM danielherrero.
He's the creator of CommMgrPro.
I am very interested in this as well - and from my searching seems a lot of others would be interested in an automated system.
My network provider automatically roams to another specific provider when in a non-coverage area (small pockets within metro areas and rural). The problem is that the data cost when roaming is ridiculous. I use Push Email for work and while on roaming want GPRS access to be disabled until I am connected back with my provider.
I've installed NoData by MoDaCo which is good but this requires the user to remember to enable/disable GPRS.
*EDIT*
I found exactly what I needed after a more searching - Wombat's PhoneRoam Script (Stay Connected to High Speed Networks Only). Will see whether it does the job

I agree to have more that only one network provider. Here in Belgium we can subscribe to Vodafone passport that enable to use "free" of charge the data on any Vodafone network, but when I go in France it switch to other provider and in that case my push mail is expensive... I'm also in the boarder of France.
So basicaly :
1/ A very very simple prg that disable the data automatically if roaming.
2/ A version 2 that would put all permited network provider even if roaming.
Thanks
This thing exists for the iPhone. Its a simple switch in the interface.
You can select "Data-Roaming" on/off, thats all.
Where is it in WM?

Modaco is fine but when you are at the border is quite difficult to follow your carrier and disable data time by time...or even remember you are switching to another country after few km and you always have one app trying to connect (Tomtom, weather, opening a mail...)
Modaco it's what I use actually but let me forget stressing an unwanted roaming data connection...
a+
Used NoData and application is still able to connect...
Hi,
I switched off all data connections in the registry (using frost Advanced Config, than also tried NoData) and in general windows mobile apps aren't able to connect... but I have a one third party application, which is somehow able to ignore that and connect even when the data connection is toggled to DISABLED...
Any ideas how to REALLY disable data connections (for roaming)...
here is the automatic solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503131
this will automatically disable ALL data in roaming and re-enable under home provider without any user configuration - nothing to toggle
I just got a $600 bill for cell data charges and I can't seem to stop it! Hopefully someone can help...
Here's what I did in my testing tonight:
1. I went to:
Start | Settings | Connections | Advanced | Select Networks
and set both pull-downs to "My Work Network". Shouldn't this force all data connections to WiFi only? Neither is set to use the cell network.
2. I went to comm manager and ensured MS Direct Push and Data Connection are disabled.
I then take my phone into the basement where there is no cell signal and I then go to activesync and click SYNC. A warning popup window appears saying "There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in your registered home network."
So...activesync is STILL trying to use the GPRS network. What is going on? How can I stop use of GPRS???
Thanks
HI
well this is what you need I think, I use it and is great!! it call's nodata and is free

Personally I use HD Tweak to disable my GPRS settings so that I can control when my device can and cannot connect.
You can find HD Tweak at http://montecristoff.webs.com/
You'll find that there are some other useful features in HD Tweak besides enabling/disabling data connections too.
your problem is that Activesync is set, by default, to sync on a regulsr basis.
you need to set up a dummy exchange account and then you can get into the AS scheduler nd set it to 'manual'

...or, alternatively, go to ActiveSync -> Menu -> Scheduling -> Set both options to 'Manually'. It won't try to connect GPRS/EDGE any more until you explictly want to do it.
Or you can set in your gprs connection profile that you need a password, then it will show a connection box every time, so you can tell it, if you want to connect or not.
I actually have an exchange account this the HD must sync to, but using WiFi only.
I don't understand why it is trying GPRS!? Should it only use available connections?
Something still doesn't make sense. The MoDaCo app does the same thing as HTC's Comm Manager I think so that may not be the answer. I don't want to mask the problem, just figure out why it is syncing this way.
Solved! To help others trying to disable GPRS as well, here is the solution:
Go to HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections
Export this “connections” key to undo your changes later.
Go inside every data connection and you’ll find a key “Enabled”.
This key has a value 0×1 (1), change this for every connection to 0×0 (0) for every connection you want to disable.
I could only get activesync to sync wireless with bluetooth? or by usb.can you fo it in your home network?
I'm syncing with an Exchange server - that works differently than syncing with a PC...
